BRECK WENT UP AGAINST LEGACY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 30 Breck and Legacy Christian Academy squared off in a boys' basketball game at Hopkins High School.

 

Legacy started out the game in a zone defense. They made Breck pass the ball around the 3-point line to get into their offense.

 

Legacy trapped the ball as they looked for steals out of the trap.

 

Breck’s Ramaud Chiaokhiao-Bowman attacked the basket and was able to hit mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. If he didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it to one of his teammates.

 

Breck called a timeout with 10:44 left in the first half. The score was Breck 15, Legacy 14.

 

The defensive pressure that both teams applied made it difficult for the other team to make uncontested shot attempts.

 

Breck called a timeout with 7:44 left in the first half. The score was Legacy 23, Breck 18.

 

Legacy did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They passed the ball around to each other and communicated well while on the floor.

 

Legacy was able to come up with steals on the defensive end and convert those steals into layups on the offensive end.

 

Legacy called a timeout with 3:06 left in the first half. The score was Legacy 29, Breck 27.

 

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. It was a very physical game.

 

Legacy came up with shots late in the first half.

 

At halftime the score was Legacy 41, Breck 33.

 

As the second half got underway Breck continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. Breck got the ball into the hands of Grant Opperman. Opperman came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He kept his team in the game.

 

Legacy was able to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. Breck wasn’t able to slow Legacy down in transition.

 

Breck wasn’t able to score baskets in transition late in the second half.  

 

Legacy stayed in their zone defense late in the game. Breck struggled to shoot the ball throughout the second half.

 

Legacy came away with the 73-57 victory over Breck.

LEGACY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT IN A GIRLS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 18 Legacy Christian Academy and Minneapolis Roosevelt squared off in a girls' basketball game.

Legacy started the game in a zone defense. They wanted to force Roosevelt to take deep 3-point shots.

Roosevelt pushed the ball down the floor as they looked to score baskets in transition. Roosevelt passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to take time off the clock.

Roosevelt had a difficult time shooting the ball for a period of time in the first half.

Legacy used their quickness to beat Roosevelt down the floor.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 10:35 left in the first half. The score was Legacy 16, Roosevelt 4.

Legacy took time off the clock by passing the ball around the 3-point line. They were able to get everyone involved in the offense. Legacy also was able to score layups in transition.

Legacy’s zone caused problems for the Roosevelt offense throughout the first half. They were not able to get shots in their offense.

At halftime the score was Legacy 41, Roosevelt 17.

Legacy’s Cali Weddle was all over the floor. She was able to come up mid-range jump shots and layups. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot it.

Roosevelt’s Sina Claude and Katie Jones came up with layups and mid-range jump shots.

Legacy’s Tori Cole came up with layups on the low block. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball where she could shoot it.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 12:38 left in regulation. The score was Legacy 49, Roosevelt 17.

Roosevelt looked to trap the ball on the defensive end. Legacy was able to escape the trap and get to the basket.

Legacy called a timeout with 11:43 left in regulation. The score was Legacy 50, Roosevelt 17.

Roosevelt’s Lazhanique Bryant came up with midrange jump shots and layups in the second half. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot it.

Weddle called for the ball on the low block. She was able to make layups and midrange jump shots.

Roosevelt struggled to make shots throughout the game. Legacy was able to hit their shots down the stretch.

Legacy came away with the 67-35 victory over Roosevelt.

The leading scorer for Roosevelt was Bryant with 16 points.

The leading scorer for Legacy was Weddle with 19 points.

The Steven’s Sports Report MVP’s were Roosevelt’s Bryant and Legacy’s Weddle.

LEGACY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST TRINITY SCHOOL IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

Legacy Christian and Trinity went up against each other in a boys basketball game.

 

Trinity looked to push the tempo early. They were able to push the ball in transition and make layups.

 

Trinity was also able to get everyone involved in the offense.

 

Legacy started the game out in a zone defense as well.

 

The score went back and forth early in the first half. Neither team was able to go on a run.  

 

Trinity swung the ball around the three-point line. They were able to attack the zone defense that Legacy was playing.

 

Trinity called a timeout with 10:23 left in the first half. The score was Legacy 13, Trinity 10.

 

Legacy’s Michael Stelly stepped up and hit his mid-range jump shot. His teammates did a good job of getting the ball to him in the paint where he hit most of his shots.

 

Trinity’s Jon Lotti came up with a couple of steals and was able to turn them into baskets on the offensive end. Lotti was able to slow down the guy that he was guarding as well.  

 

Trinity was able to control the tempo late in the first half. They were able to take Legacy out of an offensive rhythm because of their defense.

 

At halftime the score was Trinity 28, Legacy 19.

 

Both started out the second half in a zone defense.

 

Trinity’s Seth Brummer continued to attack the basket. He was able to hit layups that he shot.

 

Brummer was also able to get the ball into Lotti’s hands in the second half who got hot in the second half.

 

Legacy wanted to push the tempo in the second half. They did a good job of moving the ball down the floor and getting fast break baskets.

 

Trinity was able to hit shots from inside and outside. They were not afraid to attack the basket.

 

Brummer kept on coming up with pull up jumpers and was also able to make back door layups.

 

Trinity did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offensive end. Everyone on the floor touched the ball on the offensive end before someone looked to shoot it.

 

Legacy couldn’t come up with the lead late in the second half. They fought hard and were very scrappy on both ends of the floor.

 

The score with 3:13 left in regulation was Trinity 47, Legacy 43.

 

Legacy’s Luke Anderson kept his team in the game. He stepped up and was able to knock down some key three-point shots.

 

The game came down to the wire.

 

Trinity came away with the 54-49 victory over Legacy.

 

The leading scorers for Legacy were Bertsch with 17 points, Johnson with 11 and Anderson with 10 points.

 

The leading scorers for Trinity were Lotti with 19 points and Brummer with 11 points.  

 

CRISTO REY JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL WENT UP AGAINST LEGACY CHRISTIAN ACADEMY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Cristo Rey Jesuit went up against Legacy Christian Academy in a boys’ basketball game on Nov. 25.

 

Both teams looked to push the ball down the floor in transition. Cristo Rey swung the ball around the three-point line as they looked to get into an offensive groove.

 

The score went back and forth early. It took a while for each of these teams to get used to what the other team was doing.

 

Cristo Rey used different defenses in the first half. That made it difficult for Legacy Christian to see open looks at the basket.

 

Legacy Christian was able to make shots from behind the three-point line as well as layups.

 

Luke Johnson for Legacy Christian was able to make layups. If he was close to the basket he was not afraid to take a good shot at the basket. If Johnson was not able to get a good shot he would feed teammate Luke Anderson the ball as Anderson came up with some jump shots.

 

There were many loose balls in the first half. Both teams dove on the floor for the ball.

 

Cristo Rey strung some baskets together midway through the first half.  Legacy Christian wasn’t able to counter.

 

Jordan McKinney for Cristo Rey rebounded well on both ends and was able to make his layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball on the low block.

 

The score went back and forth with 7:00 left in the first half. Neither team went on a run.

 

Cristo Rey got a lot of baskets in transition. Johnny Obaski for Cristo Rey got their offense going. He knew where his teammates were on the floor and knew what plays he wanted run.

 

Devonte Smith for Cristo Rey came up with some key layups late in the first half to keep his team in the game.

 

The score remained close late in the half. Both teams found hard for every shot that they took.

 

At halftime the score was Cristo Rey 30, Legacy Christian 28.

 

As the second half got underway Smith continued to get to the basket and made some nice shots.

 

Both teams played with a lot of intensity and both coaches had a lot of intensity throughout the game.

 

The players did a good job managing their emotions. You could tell it was early in the season as the players for Cristo Rey were getting used to playing as a team. They communicated well on both ends of the floor.

 

Luke Johnson kept shooting the ball as his teammates kept on feeding the ball. He was able to hit shots that he was putting up.

 

The pace of the game quickened midway through the second half. Legacy Christian didn’t let a frantic pace bother them at all as they looked to control the tempo of the game.

 

Both teams didn’t let the pace of the game bother them. Cole Bertsch for Legacy Christian shot some mid-range jump shots that kept the game close.

 

The score went back and forth late in the contest. There were many ties and lead changes throughout the second half.   

 

Cristo Rey went to a full court press. They looked to turn Legacy Christian over. They were able to do that and they were able to score baskets off the turnovers.  

 

Cristo Rey called a timeout with 3:29 left in regulation, the score was Cristo Rey 59, Legacy Christian 57.

 

Legacy Christian’s guard Nate Bertsch received a technical foul with 2:03 left in regulation. That was his fifth foul.

 

The score with 2:03 left was Cristo Rey 64, Legacy Christian 59.

 

Both teams went to a full-court press as they wanted to make it hard for the other team to get their shot off late in the contest.

 

Both teams score a lot of points in the last two minutes of the game. Legacy Christian came up with some big baskets as everyone touched the ball and shot the ball well late in the contest.

 

Cristo Rey came away with the 71-68 victory over Legacy Christian

 

I thought that this was a very well-played game. Neither team was able to go on a run at any point of the game. I thought that Legacy Christian battled hard throughout the game. Both teams were prepared to play this game.  

 

The leading scorers for Legacy Christian were Anderson with 24 points, Bertsch with 23 points and Johnson with 17 points.

 

The leading scorers for Cristo Rey were Smith with 28 and Jeffery Hudson with 11 points.
