MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST WENT UP AGAINST PROVIDENCE ACADEMY IN A FOOTBALL GAME

On Sept. 15, Minneapolis Southwest and Providence Academy squared off in a football game. Providence kicked off to start the game. Providence’s Maxwell Anderson found Taylor Meissner for a 28-yard touchdown reception with 5:22 left in the first quarter.
After one quarter of play the score was Providence 7 Southwest 0.
Providence used mostly a running attack. The Southwest defense stepped up and Providence punted on fourth-and-short.
Southwest took over on the Providence 34-yard line. Southwest lost yards and was turned over on downs. Providence took over on their own 44-yard line.
The football changed hands multiple times throughout the first half. Providence’s Justin Mason came up with runs that became first downs.
Providence called a timeout with 1:08 left in the second quarter. The score was Providence 7, Southwest 0.
Providence fumbled the ball and Southwest came up with it.
At halftime, the score was Providence 7, Southwest 0.
Southwest kicked off to start the third quarter. Providence started on their own 34-yard line. Providence used both their running and passing attack in the third quarter.
Meissner continued to come up with huge runs for first downs. Southwest’s Dakota Michael Caige Vallone recovered a fumble on their own 45-yard line. Southwest punted on fourth down.
Providence took over on their own 19-yard line. Providence moved the ball down the field late in the third quarter.
After three quarters of play the score was Providence 7, Southwest 0.
Providence fumbled the ball and Southwest recovered it on their own 30-yard line. Southwest got everyone involved in the offense. They used different passing and running plays as they wanted to confuse the Providence defense.
Jayzee Brown found Levi Wilson for a 46-yard touchdown reception. The extra-point attempt was no good.
With 7:50 left in the fourth quarter the score was Providence 7, Southwest 6.
Providence’s Jeff Ekior came up with a 53-yard run to the Southwest 2-yard line. Ekior came up with a two-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was no good.
With 5:15 left in the fourth quarter the score was Providence 13, Southwest 6.
Southwest took over on their own 43-yard line. Southwest couldn’t come up with a first down and they punted on fourth down.
Providence ran out the time the last 15 seconds of the game.
In a game that saw the ball change hands quite a few times and a very competitive game Providence came up with the 13-6 victory over Southwest.

MARANATHA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST PROVIDENCE ACADEMY IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 11, Maranatha Christian Academy and Providence Academy squared off in a boys' basketball game.
 
Both teams started the game in a zone defense.
 
Providence swung the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to attack the basket. Providence also looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.
 
Maranatha also looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. They also looked to make layups in the paint.  
 
Maranatha’s Austin Andrews came up with mid-range jump shots and he also took 3-point shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
 
In the zone defense which both teams played neither team took many shots early.
 
Providence did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They talked to each other on both ends of the floor and let each other know where picks were coming.
 
Maranatha called a timeout with 12:27 left in the first half. The score was Providence 8, Maranatha 3.
 
Providence picked up their zone defense near mid court. They didn’t want Maranatha to get any easy looks at the basket.
 
Both teams took a lot of time off the clock as they swung the ball around the 3-point line looking for a good shot.
 
Maranatha struggled to shoot the ball in the first half. Even though they had a hard time shooting the ball, they still took it hard to the basket.
 
Maranatha called a timeout with 8:20 left in the first half. The score was Providence 13, Maranatha 5.
 
Maranatha’s Justin Mason came up with mid-range jump shots and 3-point baskets. He also was able to run his team’s offense.
 
Mason came up with some 3-point baskets late in the game. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball where he could shoot it.
 
Maranatha came up with layups late in the first half.
 
At halftime the score was tied at 21.
 
As the second half got underway, both teams stayed in their zone defense.
 
Providence looked to get the ball into the hands of Drew Lahr. Lahr came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
 
Providence’s Dominic Miller came up with layups off screens. He called for the ball at the top of the key and was able to get past the defense.
 
Maranatha called a timeout with 14:04 left in regulation. The score was Providence 29, Maranatha 23.  
 
Mason and Andrews both continued to come up with shots in the second half. They were a huge part in their offense.
 
Lahr got hot from the top of the key. His jump shots kept Providence in the game.
 
Providence called a timeout with 8:46 left in regulation. The score was Providence 34, Maranatha 23.
 
Even though Maranatha had a difficult time shooting the ball in the second half. They still took shots that they thought that they were going to make.
 
Miller kept attacking the basket in the second half. Providence ran a motion offense as they were able to take time off the clock while looking for a good shot.
 
Providence called a timeout with 1:57 left in regulation. The score was Providence 48, Maranatha 25.
 
Providence continued to run a motion offense and take time off the clock. Maranatha looked to trap the ball in the corners and come up with steals.
 
Maranatha couldn’t make shots in the second half. Both teams played zone throughout the game.
 
Providence came away with the 50-26 victory over Maranatha.
 
The leading scorers for Maranatha were Mason with 10 points and Anders with 8 points.
 
The leading scorers for Providence were Lahr with 19 points and Miller with 16 points.

PROVIDENCE ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST ALBANY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Providence Academy and Albany squared off in a boys’ basketball game. The score went back and forth early.  

Albany was able to get the ball into the hands of Nick Reaker. He was able to get to the basket and make layups and jump shots. 

Neither team went on a run in the first half. Both teams played hard on the defensive end making it difficult for the other to get shots off. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes in the first half. 

At halftime the score was Albany 22, Providence 21.

As the second half for underway both teams continued to take their time on the offensive end. 

Albany’s Nick Reaker came up with mid-range jump shots in the second half. Teammate Kyle Birr also came up with baskets in the second half. Joel Kline came up with shots. All three players could shoot the ball from anywhere on the court. Also Nick Reaker and Kenney Weber each were able to come up with mid-range jump shots late in the contest. 

Providence had a difficult time scoring baskets in the second half. They couldn’t get their shots to fall. 

Albany was able to get their shots to fall late in the second half. They were able to come away with the 53-37 victory over Providence.

PROVIDENCE ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST BIG LAKE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Providence Academy and Big Lake squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Big Lake started the game off in a zone defense. Providence swung the ball around the 3-point line as they were not able to get the ball inside.  

Big Lake’s Nate Sanford came up with some nice mid-range jump shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

Both teams traded baskets early in the contest. 

Providence had a difficult time getting the ball inside against the zone. They settled for mid-range jump shots. 

Providence’s Dominic Miller was all over the floor. On the offensive end Miller was able to come off screens and make mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Big Lake had a difficult time scoring baskets in transition. They were not able to hit shots for a period of time in the first half. 

Neither team went on a run in the first half. The score was close throughout. 

The score at halftime was Big Lake 32, Providence 30. 

Big Lake looked to get the ball into the hands of Trenton Monson. Monson came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. 

There were several ties and lead changes throughout the second half. Providence was able to penetrate the Big Lake defense as they came up with jump shots.

Miller came up with some steals and turned them into layups in the second half. 

Big Lake called a timeout with 10:11 left in regulation. The score was Providence 48, Big Lake 42. 

The score continued to go back and forth late in the game. Providence’s Miller, Riley Loew, and Matt Richelsen all came up with huge baskets late in the contest. 

Big Lake gave Providence a scare late in regulation. But in the end Providence came away with the 62-57 victory over Big Lake. 

The leading scorers for Providence were Richlesen with 18 points and Baird with 16 points.

The leading scorer for Big Lake was Sanford with 12 points.
