CONCORDIA ST. PAUL TOOK ON NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY IN A WOMEN'S BASKETBALL GAME

The Concordia St. Paul Golden Bears took on Northern State University in a semifinal women's
basketball game at the Ganglehoff Center.
 
Both teams came out shooting the ball strong at the beginning of the game.
 
At the first media timeout with 15:50 left in the first half, the score was Concordia St. Paul 5 and
Northern State University 4.
 
Northern State University pushed the ball down the court in transition. As soon as the ball was of the
net the Northern State guards were off to the races as they looked to score baskets as quickly as they
could.
 
With 11:39 left in the first half at the second media timeout the score was tied at 12.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run in the first half.
Concordia St. Paul switched between man-to-man and zone defense.
 
With 7:43 left in the first half there was a media timeout. The score was Concordia St. Paul 22 and
Northern State University 20.
 
Both teams dove on the ground after loose balls. Neither team gave up easy shots.
 
Concordia St. Paul looked to get the ball into Maurika Hickman's hands. Hickman did a good job of
getting to the basket and make her shots.
 
Neither team went on a run in the first half. At halftime the score was Concordia St. Paul 37 and
Northern State University 32.
 
Both teams came out of the halftime break a little cold. They could not hit shots.
 
Concordia St. Paul kept on looking to attack the glass. On the offensive end Maurika Hickman was all
over the court. Hickman stepped up and was able to knock down some deep three-point point shots. On
the defensive end Hickman was able to slow down her opponent.
 
At 11:51 there was a media timeout. The score was Concordia St. Paul 51 and Northern State
University 42.
 
Concordia St. Paul switched between man-to-man and zone defense throughout the second half. They
did a good job of slowing down Northern State.
 
Concordia St. Paul was on fire in the second half. They really got their offense going.
 
Northern State had a hard time making shots throughout the game. They didn't get frustrated at all as
they kept on battling and going after every loose ball as they could.
 
With 7:34 left in regulation there was a media timeout. The score was Concordia St. Paul 62 and
Northern State 32.
 
Northern State made a late game run at Concordia St. Paul. Concordia St. Paul was able to withstand
their run.
 
With 4:21 left in regulation the score was Concordia St. Paul 64 and Northern State 58.
Concordia found confidence in their shots and they we able to widen the lead.
 
Northern State went on a run late in the contest. Concordia St. Paul was able to hold their ground.
Concordia St. Paul came away with the 74-67 victory over Northern State.
 
The leading scorers for Concordia St. Paul were Maurika Hickman with 30 points and Jineen Williams with 15 points. They shot 25-60 from the field including 7-19 from behind the three-point line. They also shot 17-20 from the free throw line.
 
The leading scorers for Northern State were Krista Rabenberg with 16 points and Jodi Reinschmidt
with 15 points. They shot 25-55 from the field including 1-11 from behind the three-point line. They
also shot 16-23 from the free throw line.

WINONA STATE TOOK ON WAYNE STATE IN A WOMEN'S NSIC SEMIFINAL BASKETBALL GAME

The Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference held their men's and women's semifinals and finals on
the campus of Concordia University in St. Paul.
 
In the first semifinal Winona State took on Wayne State University. Winona State came into the game
with a record of 19-8. Wane State had a record of 25-2.
 
Wayne State started out the game in a zone defense. Winona State looked to spread Wayne State out
when they were on offense.
 
Both teams had a hard time scoring at the beginning. Neither team was able to make their shots.
 
With 15:51 left in the first half the score was tied at 4 at the first media timeout.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run.
 
Winona State midway through the first half. They were able to build a 7 point lead with 12:21 left.
 
Wayne State did a good job of running their plays. Alisha Brown was all over the court.
 
At the second media timeout with 10:35 left in the first half, the score was Winona State 15 and Wayne
State 20.
 
Wayne State switched up between zone and man-to-man defenses. They wanted to keep Winona State
guessing at what they were doing.
 
At 6:48 left in the first half there was a media timeout. The score was Winona State 27 and Wayne State 22.

The score remained close throughout the first half. Neither team was able to go on a run.
 
The defensive pressure that both teams displayed in the first half was very good.
 
Winona State called a timeout with 3:03 left with the score Wayne State 29 and Winona State 27.
 
The first half came to an end and neither team looked like it was going to back down to the other.
 
At halftime the score was Winona State 33 and Wayne State 31.
 
Both teams came out fired up to start the second half.
 
Wayne State looked to get the ball into the hands of Ashley Arlen. Arlen was all over the court.
 
With 15:46 left in regulation the score was Winona State 37 and Wayne State 36.
 
Winona State continued to shoot the three-point shot well. They went to the three-point shot early in the
second half. Wayne State had a hard time defending the three-point shot.
 
Wayne State took a timeout with 12:59 left in regulation. The score was Winona State 46 and Wayne
State 39.
 
Winona State continued to make shots.
 
With 10:55 left at the media timeout the score was Winona State 50 and Wayne State 44.
 
Wayne State continued to play well in the zone. They did a good job of trying to spread Winona State
out.
 
With 7:18 left there was a media timeout. The score was Winona State 57 and Wayne State 46.
 
Winona State continued to shoot the ball well behind Michelle McDonald and Afton Glander. Glander
came out and was able to connect on a few deep three-point shots.
 
With 2:52 left in regulation there was the final media timeout. The score was Winona State 66 and
Wayne State 55.
 
Winona State finished the game strong. They were able to step out and shoot and were able to knock
down some deep three-point shots. Wayne State didn't back down. I thought that Wayne State defended
well.
 
Even though Wayne State made a comeback late in the contest that was not enough.
 
Winona State came away with the 73-65 victory over Wayne State. The leading scorers for Wayne State were Alyssa Fischbach with 19 points and Ashley Arlen with 16 points. They shot 22-64 from the field including 9-29 from behind the three-point line. They also shot 12-14 from the free throw line.
 
The leading scorers for Winona State were Michelle McDonald with 15 points, Marieanne Dulas with
14 points and Matelie Gigler with 12 points. They shot 25-59 from the field including 8-16 from behind the three-point line. They also shot 15-18 from the free throw line.

ST CLOUD STATE TOOK ON THE UNIVERSITY OF MARY IN A MEN'S BASKETBALL CONTEST

St. Cloud State University took on the University of Mary in a semifinal men's basketball game. Both
teams came out on fire as they were each able to hit their shots that they put up.
 
University of Mary started out quietly as they were not able to hit shots. They all of a sudden they came
to life.
 
At the first media timeout with 15-14 left the score was St Cloud State 12 and the University of Mary
 
7.
St. Cloud State was able hit their three-point shots that they were putting up.
 
University of Mary woke up and they went on a run midway through the first half. The score was tied
at 15 with 11:03.
 
University of Mary's Jalen Jaspers came off the bench and provided them an offensive lift.
 
With 10:41 left in the first half there was a media timeout. The score was tied at 15.
 
Jaspers took the ball hard to the basket. He knew where he was on the floor. His teammates did a good
job of getting him the ball. If Jaspers was open he would take the jump shot. If he was not open he
would pass it off for another teammate to get the basket.
 
Anthony Moody for the University of Mary was able to zip past his defenders and take the ball hard to
the basket.
 
With 6:17 left in the first half the score was tied at 17.

University of Mary went to a zone defense late in the half. They looked to spread St. Cloud State out.
 
They were able to do a good job of doing that.
 
Cameron Lee also stepped up and made some nice shots for the University of Mary.
 
The University of Mary went on a run to end the first half.
 
At halftime the score was St. Cloud State University 29 and the University of Mary 24.
 
University of Mary came out on fire. They were able to make a few baskets in a row.
 
Both teams traded baskets early in the second half. University of Mary looked to get the lead midway
through the half.
 
St. Cloud State was able to get the long rebounds and take it strong to the basket. They were able to
score off of those long rebounds.
 
With 14:42 there was a media timeout. The score was St. Cloud State 43 and the University of Mary
38.
 
Moody was all over the court in the second half. On the offensive end he was able to get his teammates
the ball where they could score it.
 
The University of Mary went to a zone defense. St. Cloud State had a hard time defending their zone
defense.
 
With 11:34 left in regulation the score was tied at 46.
 
St. Cloud State looked to get the ball into Nate Lamare Phillips’ hands. Phillips was all over the court.
 
He was able to find his shot midway through the half.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the second half. Neither team was able to go on a run.

With 7:36 left to go, the score was the University of Mary 53 and St. Cloud State University 51.
 
There were many ties and lead changes in the second half.
 
Phillips was able to take the ball hard to the basket and blow by the defenders late in the contest.
 
With 3:46 left in regulation the score was tied at 55.
 
Both teams continued to fight over loose balls down the stretch.
 
The game came down to the wire.
 
St. Cloud State came away with the 65-59 victory over the University of Mary.
 
The University of Mary shot 24-56 from the field. That included going 4-20 from behind the thee-point
line. They also shot 7-11 from the free throw line. They were led in scoring by Eric Erdmann with 20
points and Anthony Moody with 18 points.
 
St. Cloud State shot 24-48 from the field. That included going 6-15 from behind the three-point line.
They shot 11-15 from the free throw line. St. Cloud State was led in scoring by Taylor Witt with 22
points, Andrew Barnstetter with 14 points and Nate Lamare Phillips with 6 points.

WINONA STATE TOOK ON MINNESOTA STATE MANKATO IN A MEN'S BASKETBALL GAME

Minnesota State Mankato took on Winona State in a men's NSIC semifinal game at Concordia St. Paul.

Both teams got off to a quick start as each team was able to make shots.

Mankato looked to get the ball into the hands of Cammron Hodges. Hodges was all over the court. He knew where his teammates were on the floor at all times.

At the first media timeout with 15:08 left to go the score was Minnesota State 10 Winona State 7.

Winona State used a zone defense throughout the first half. They looked to try to spread Minnesota State Mankato out.

Winona State went on a run midway through the first half.

With 11:13 left in the first half at the second media timeout the score was Winona State 17 and Minnesota State Mankato 11.

Minnesota State Mankato went on a run midway through the first half. Marcus Hill was all over the court. Hill took the ball hard to the basket. If he was not open he could dish off the ball to his teammates and was able to get the assist. Hill also was able to step up and knock down a few deep three-point shots.

Both teams played with a lot of emotion and intensity. They dove on the floor after loose balls. It was a defensive battle throughout the first half.

With 3:56 left in the first half there was a media timeout. The score was Minnesota State Mankato 29 and Winona State 23.

The score went back and forth late in the first half. Neither team went on a run.

In a very physical first half at halftime the score was Minnesota State Mankato 35 and Winona State 31.

As the second half got underway Winona State continued to look to get the ball inside and make easy passes.

Minnesota State Mankato did a good job of moving the ball around the three-point line.

The score went back and forth throughout the second half. It was a very evenly matched game.

Both teams did a good job of defending each other.

The game was tied at 47 with 13:52 left in regulation.

Neither team gave on either end of the floor. Winona State continued to pressure Minnesota State Mankato. They were able to handle the pressure.

With 11:30 left in regulation the score was Winona State 51 and Minnesota State Mankato 47.

Winona State went on a run midway through the second half. They were able to get a 62-53 lead with 7:19 left in regulation.

Winona State continued to shoot the ball well down the stretch.

Winona State called a timeout with 4:37 left in regulation with the score Winona State 65 and Minnesota State Mankato 55.

Minnesota State Mankato made a run late in the game. They didn't back down. They were able to attack the basket late and came up with some nice baskets.

The game came down to the wire. Minnesota State Mankato gave it all they got. Winona State came away with the 82-74 victory over Minnesota State Mankato.

The leading scorers for Minnesota State Mankato were Marcus Hill with 28 points, Jefferson Mason with 18 points and Cameron Hodges with 17 points. They shot 24-51 from the field including 8-23 from behind the three-point line. Minnesota State Mankato also shot 18-20 from the free throw line.

The leading scorers for Winona State were Jon Walberg with 15 points and Brad Meyer and Xaiver Humphrey each with 14 points. They shot 26-53 from the field including 6-18 from behind the three-point line. Winona State also shot 24-33 from the free throw line.

After the game I was able to talk to Winona State player Kellen Taylor, about the game. I was also able to talk to Winona State's head coach Mike Leaf about the game.
