2020 NFL DRAFT RECAP

The 2020 NFL Draft took place April 23-25. Because of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) This year’s draft was done all online. The NFL went into social distancing mode with NFL prospects going virtual. 

NFL draft attendees had cameras and networking capabilities set up in their own houses as a form of social distancing measures.

Former Minnesota North and Gopher football player Tyler Johnson was drafted 161 overall in the fifth round to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is joining former teammate Antoine Winfield Jr. who was selected in the second round with the 45th pick overall. 

Also, tackle Ben Bartch who played at St. John’s became the first Division III player taken in the last five years in the NFL draft. Bartch was selected in the fourth round with the 116th overall pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars.

WISCONSIN WENT UP AGAINST MINNESOTA IN A FOOTBALL GAME

On Nov. 30, Wisconsin and Minnesota squared off in a football game at TCF Bank Stadium. 

Minnesota kicked off to start the game. Wisconsin started on their own 10-yard line. Wisconsin punted on 4th-and-1.

Minnesota took over on their own 49-yard line. Tanner Morgan found Roshad Bateman for a 51-yard touchdown reception.  The extra point attempt was good.

With 12:30 left in the first quarter the score was Minnesota 7, Wisconsin 0.

Wisconsin started on their own 25-yard line. Wisconsin had a difficult time moving the ball down the field early. Wisconsin punted on 4th-and-7 Wisconsin punted the ball.

Minnesota took over on their own 23-yard line. Minnesota looked to move the ball down the field as they used both the passing and running attack in the first quarter.

Minnesota called a timeout with 4:31 left in the first quarter. The score was Minnesota 7, Wisconsin 0.

Minnesota punted on 4th-and-2. Wisconsin recovered on their own 9-yard line. Wisconsin looked to move the ball down the field, but the Minnesota defense stepped up big and slowed down the Wisconsin offense. 

Wisconsin called a timeout with 26 seconds left in the first quarter. The score was Minnesota 7, Wisconsin 0.

After one quarter of play the score was Minnesota 7, Wisconsin 0.

Wisconsin looked to move the ball down the field early. Wisconsin fumbled the ball and Minnesota recovered the ball. They recovered the ball on their 32-yard line. Wisconsin intercepted a pass and they took over on the Minnesota 27-yard line. Wisconsin kept the ball on the ground as they looked to run the ball down the field. On 4th-and-3 from the 8-yard line Wisconsin attempted a 26-yard field goal which was good.

With 8:56 left in the second quarter the score was Minnesota 7, Wisconsin 3.

 Minnesota looked to move the ball down the field once again as they used both the running and passing attempts to try to trick the Wisconsin defense. On 4th-and-5 Minnesota punted the ball.

Wisconsin took over on their own 18-yard line. Jack Coan pass completed a pass to Taylor for 28-yard touchdown. Zach Hintez extra point attempt was good. 

With 2:49 left in the second quarter the score was Wisconsin 10, Minnesota 7.

Minnesota looked to move the ball down the field late in the quarter, but they were not able to do that.

At halftime, the score was Wisconsin 10, Minnesota 7.

Wisconsin kicked off to start the third quarter. Minnesota started on their own 25-yard line. Minnesota continued to look to push the ball down the field. Minnesota punted on 4th-and-11.

Wisconsin took over on their own 9-yard line. Wisconsin looked to air the ball down the field as they went to the passing attack. Wisconsin was able to get down the field as they passed and ran their way to first downs. Wiscon’s Jack Coan, Jack found Quintez Cephus for a 47-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good. 

With 9:52 left in the third quarter, the score was Wisconsin 17, Minnesota 7.

Minnesota took over on its own 29-yard line. Minnesota moved the ball down the field.

Minnesota attempted a 38-yard field goal which was good. With 6:51 left in the third quarter, the score was Wisconsin 17, Minnesota 10.

Wisconsin took over on the Minnesota 39-yard line. Wisconsin’s Kendric Pryor came up with a 26-yard run. The extra point attempt was good. With 5:52 left in the third quarter, the score was Wisconsin 24, Minnesota 10.

Minnesota started on its own 25-yard line. Minnesota looked to move the ball down the field on the ground. Minnesota’s Tyler Johnson came up with big plays late in the third quarter.

After three quarters of play, the score was Wisconsin 24, Minnesota 10.

Minnesota looked to get into the end zone early in the fourth quarter. Minnesota turned the ball over on downs.

Wisconsin moved the ball down the field quickly. Taylor came up with an 11-yard run for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.

With 11:05 left in the fourth quarter, the score was Wisconsin 31, Minnesota 10.

Minnesota fumbled the ball and Wisconsin recovered the ball. Wisconsin found the end zone on a 1-yard run by AJ Taylor. The extra point attempt was good.

With 8:41 left in the fourth quarter, the score was Wisconsin 38, Minnesota 10.

Minnesota took over on its own 25-yard line. Minnesota moved the ball down the field again late in the fourth quarter. Minnesota’s Tanner Morgan found Tyler Johnson on a 12-yard pass. The extra point attempt was good.

With 5:51 left in the fourth quarter, the score was Wisconsin 38, Minnesota 17.

Minnesota looked to move the ball down the field late in the game. Minnesota punted the ball on 4th
 down.

Both teams played hard throughout the game.

Wisconsin came away with the 38-17 victory over Minnesota.

ILLINOIS WENT UP AGAINST MINNESOTA IN A FOOTBALL GAME

It was homecoming week at the University of Minnesota as Illinois came to town for a football game on Oct. 5. It was a cool cloudy day on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Coming into the game Illinois had an overall record of 2-2 while Minnesota’s overall record was 4-0.

Minnesota kicked off to start the game. Illinois started their first drive on their own 35-yard line. The ball went out of bounds. Illinois kept the ball on the ground on their opening drive. Illinois Daniel Barker came up with a reception. That kept the ball moving down the field. On 4th-and-3 Illinois punted the ball.

Minnesota took over on their own 10-yard line. Minnesota looked to get the ball into Rodney Smith’s hands. Minnesota started Tanner Morgan at the quarterback spot. On 4th-and-4 Minnesota punted the ball.

Illinois took over on their own 27-yard line. They couldn’t move the ball on offense. Illinois punted the ball.

Minnesota took over deep in their own zone. They kept the ball on the ground as Illinois tackled Minnesota. Minnesota was picked off by Dele Harding and he ran it back for a 40-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.

With 6:58 left in the first quarter, the score was Illinois 7, Minnesota 0.

Minnesota took over on its own 25-yard line. Minnesota switched between their running and their passing attack as they looked to confuse the Illinois defense. Minnesota Shannon Brooks looked to keep his feet moving as he looked to get first downs.

Illinois called a timeout with 4:52 left in the first quarter. The score was Illinois 7, Minnesota 0.

Minnesota looked to the running game often in the first half. They were able to chew up little bits of yards as they moved the ball down the field. On 4th-and-5 Minnesota punted the ball.

Illinois took over on their own 5-yard line. Illinois was picked off by Minnesota’s Antoine Winfield Jr. Minnesota took over on the Illinois 12-yard line. On 4th-and-8 Minnesota attempted a 28-yard field goal which was good.

With 52 seconds left in the first quarter, the score was Illinois 7, Minnesota 3.

Illinois took over on their own 32-yard line.

After one quarter of play, the score was Illinois 7, Minnesota 3.

Illinois tried to move the ball down the field again. The defensive pressure that Minnesota applied made it difficult for Illinois to move the ball down the field. Illinois punted the ball on 4th-and-8.

Smith kept his feet moving as he was able to get down the field and past the Illinois defense. Minnesota’s Smith came up with a 64-yard carry for a first down. Brooks and Smith did most of the carrying of the ball. Tyler Johnson came up with a 12-yard touchdown reception by Tanner Morgan. The extra point attempt was good.

With 11:23 left in the second quarter, the score was Minnesota 10, Illinois 7.

Illinois got the ball back on their own 25-yard line.

Illinois called a timeout with 10:53 left in the second quarter. The score was Minnesota 10, Illinois 7.

Illinois quarterback Matt Robinson looked to move the ball down the field and get his teammates the ball where they could get first downs. The defensive pressure that Minnesota applied made it difficult for them to move the ball. On 4th-and-7 Illinois elected to punt the ball.

Minnesota took over on its own 13-yard line. Minnesota Smith had a 16-yard run for a first down. Minnesota punted on 4th-and-9.

Illinois took over on their own 30-yard line. Illinois running back Reggie Corbin came up with long runs that moved the chains for Illinois. Illinois used short runs down the field to move the ball. Illinois attempted a 43-yard field goal attempt which was no good as it went wide right.

With 4:40 left in the second quarter, the score remained Minnesota 10, Illinois 7.

Minnesota moved the ball down the field once again. Minnesota’s Rodney Smith came up with an 18-yard run. Rashod Bateman came up with a reception that made the chains move. Brooks came up with a 21-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was no good.

With 1:32 left in the score was Minnesota 16, Illinois 7.

Illinois looked to move the ball down the field deep in their zone late in the second quarter. Illinois kept on firing the ball down the field as they looked to score late.

Illinois called a timeout with 17 seconds left in the quarter. The score was Minnesota 16, Illinois 7.

Illinois attempted a 46-yard field goal which was good.

With 13 seconds left in the second quarter, the score was Minnesota 16, Illinois 10.

Minnesota ran out the clock to end the second quarter.

Illinois kicked off to start the third quarter. The ball went into the end zone and Minnesota took over on their own 25-yard line. Minnesota’s Bateman came up with a 58-yard reception. Minnesota continued to bring the ball down the field. Chris Autman-Bell came up with a 7-yard reception for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.

With 12:53 left in the third quarter, the score was Minnesota 23, Illinois 10.

Illinois got the ball back after the touchdown. Illinois kept the ball on the ground early in the quarter. Illinois punted on 4th-and-2.

Minnesota took over on its own 35-yard line. Minnesota used the running attack early in the third quarter. Tyler Johnson came alive in the third quarter as he came up with a 20-yard first down reception. Brooks came up with a 21-yard run for a first down. They kept on moving the ball down the field. Minnesota Brevyn Spann-Ford came up with a 12-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.

With 7:52 left in the third quarter, the score was Minnesota 30, Illinois 10.

Illinois continued to push the ball down the field as they looked to move the ball down the field. The Minnesota defense stepped up big and was able to get to the quarterback. Illinois was not able to move the ball down the field and on 4th-and-10 Illinois punted the ball.

Minnesota took over on their own 2-yard line. Smith looked to take the ball downfield as he looked for holes in the Illinois defense. Illinois picked off Morgan’s pass and Jake Hanson came up with a 7-yard fumble return for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.

With 2:27 left in the third quarter, the score was Minnesota 30, Illinois 17.

The ball went into the end zone on the kickoff for a touchback. Minnesota started on its own 25-yard line.

Minnesota called a timeout with 2:27 left in the third quarter. The score was Minnesota 30, Illinois 17.

Minnesota looked to move the ball down the field once again. Brooks came up with a huge 25-yard run for a first down.

After three quarters of play, the score was Minnesota 30, Illinois 7.

Minnesota looked to get into the end zone early in the fourth quarter.

Minnesota called a timeout with 13:34 left in the fourth quarter. The score was Minnesota 30, Illinois 17.

Minnesota moved the ball down the field as they looked to get into the end zone in the fourth quarter. Smith came up with an 8-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.

With 12:48 left in the fourth quarter, the score was Minnesota 37, Illinois 17.

Illinois got the ball back on their own 25-yard line. Illinois looked to go into a hurry-up offense as they looked to get the ball down the field quickly. The defensive pressure made it difficult for Illinois to move the ball down the field. On 4th-and-7 Illinois went for it and turned it over on downs.

Minnesota moved the ball down the field as everyone on the offense had their chance to get the ball. They were able to come up with first downs.

Minnesota called a timeout with 1:43 left in regulation. The score was Minnesota 37, Illinois 17.

Minnesota’s Lance attempted a 27-yard field goal attempt which was good.

With 51 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the score was Minnesota 40, Illinois 17.

Illinois tried to move the ball down the field but were not able to move the ball.

Minnesota was too much for Illinois to handle. Both teams played well throughout the game. Minnesota Smith played well throughout the game.

Neither team gave up but, in the end, Minnesota came away with the 40-17 victory over Illinois.

According to Minnesota head coach PJ Fleck with this win, Minnesota won its 700th game in program history.

UNIVERISTY OF MINNESOTA SR WIDE RECEIVER EARNS BIG TEN OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

University of Minnesota SR. Wide Receiver Tyler Johnson was awarded Big 10 Offensive Player of the Week. 

Johnson scored three touchdowns through the air and had a catch of 73 yards. He finished with 10 catches for 140 yards and scored 3 touchdowns and won the game with the last one with 13 seconds left in the fourth quarter against Georgia Southern.

Minnesota went onto win the game by the final of 35-32.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN WENT UP AGAINST THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA IN A FOOTBALL GAME

On Sept. 14, Georgia Southern and the University of Minnesota went up against each other in a football game. Going into the game Georgia Southern had a record of 1-1 while Minnesota was 2-0.

Minnesota kicked off to Georgia Southern to start the game. Georgia Southern go the ball on the 25-yard line as the ball went into the end zone. Georgia Southern kept the ball on the ground on their first drive. Georgia Southern punted on 4th-and-12.

Minnesota took over on their own 41-yard line. Minnesota’s quarterback Tanner Morgan looked to air the ball out on their first series. Minnesota was intercepted by Georgia Southern's Kendrick Duncan Jr. who came up with a 37-yard reception.

Logan Wright came up with a 21-yard touchdown run. Tyler Bass attempted the extra point attempt, which was good.

With 12:25 left in the first quarter the score was Georgia Southern 7, Minnesota 0.

Minnesota took over on their own 25-yard line. Minnesota’s Tyler Johnson came up with 73-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.

With 11:37 left in the first quarter the score was tied at 7.

The kickoff went into the end zone and Georgia Southern took over on their own 25-yard line. Georgia Southern moved the ball down the field quickly as they looked to score another touchdown. Justin Tomlin came up with huge runs for Georgia Southern for first downs. Georgia Southern kept the ball in Tomlin’s hands as they looked to get into the end zone.

Georgia Southern called a timeout with 6:36 left in the first quarter, the score was tied at 7.

Tomlin looked to get into the end zone, but the Gopher defense stopped him. Georgia Southern attempted 25-yard field goal which was good.

With 5:57 left in the first quarter the score was Georgia Southern 10, Minnesota 7.

Minnesota took over on their own 25-yard line. Minnesota’s Rodney Smith came up with long rushes that moved the ball down the field. Smith did a good job of getting around the Georgia Southern defense.

Minnesota’s Tyler Johnson came up with a 7-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.

With 3:26 left in the second quarter the score was Minnesota 26, Georgia Southern 13.

Minnesota took over on their own 25-yard line. Minnesota looked to get the ball down the field quickly. The Georgia Southern defense stepped up and stopped Minnesota and turned them over on downs.

Georgia Southern’s Justin Tomlin came up with a 12-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.

With 27 seconds left in the second quarter the score was Minnesota 21, Georgia Southern 20.

Minnesota got the ball on their own 25-yard line. Then they the clock run out to end the second quarter.

At halftime the score was Minnesota 21, Georgia Southern 20.

Georgia Southern kicked off to start the third quarter. Minnesota started on their own 13-yard line. Minnesota’s Cam Wiley looked to bring the ball down the field, but the Georgia Southern defense slowed him down. Even with the pressure that Georgia Southern put up Minnesota was still able to move the ball down field. Minnesota’s Morgan was able to move on his feet and run for a 17-yard run for a first down. The defensive pressure got to Minnesota as Connor Morgan was sacked. Minnesota punted on 4th-and-19.

The ball went into the end zone for a touch back.

Georgia Southern kept on moving the ball down the field as they kept the ball on the ground. The Gopher defense stepped up and was able to get to the quarterback. On 4th-and-16 Georgia Southern punted the ball.

Minnesota took over on the Georgia Southern 49-yard line. Morgan came up with a nice pass to Chris Autman-Bell for a first down. Morgan found more running room for a 6-yard run.

Minnesota called a timeout with 20 seconds left in the third quarter. The score was Minnesota 21, Georgia Southern 20.

After three quarters of play the score was Minnesota 21, Georgia Southern 20.

Minnesota found the end zone on a Bryce Williams 2-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good.

With 14:43 left in the fourth quarter was Minnesota 28, Georgia Southern 20.

Georgia Southern got the ball back on their own 26-yard line. Georgia Southern tried to move the ball down the field but were not able to get a first down. Georgia Southern punted on 4th-and-14.

Minnesota took over on their own 24-yard line. Minnesota moved the ball down the field once again. But were stopped on 4th-and-18 and they punted the ball.

Georgia State fumbled the ball and Minnesota took over. Minnesota took over on the Georgia Southern 26-yard line. Johnson came up with some tough catches. Minnesota attempted a 36-yard field goal attempt and it was blocked and Georgia Southern recovered and Monquavion Brinson game up with a 76-yard blocked field goal touchdown run. The two-point pass attempt was no good.

With 6:05 left in the fourth quarter the score was Minnesota 28, Georgia Southern 26.

Minnesota looked to take the ball down field.

Georgia Southern called a timeout with 3:57 left in the fourth quarter. The score was Minnesota 28, Georgia Southern 26.

Georgia Southern’s Rashad Byrd came up with a 44-yard touchdown reception. The two-point conversion attempt was no good.

With 3:47 left in the fourth quarter the score was Georgia Southern 32, Minnesota 28.

Minnesota took over on their own 25-yard line. The Georgia Southern defense came up big as they slowed down the Minnesota offense.

Minnesota got a look of urgency as they looked to move the ball down the field. Minnesota did this that as Erik Gibson came up with a first down reception.

Georgia Southern called a timeout with 1:04 left in the fourth quarter. The score was Georgia Southern 32, Minnesota 28.

Minnesota’s Rashod Bateman came up with a 28-yard first down reception. Johnson came up with another 10-yard reception for a first down. Johnson came up with a 2-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.

With 13 seconds left in the fourth quarter the score was Minnesota 35, Georgia Southern 32. That was the final of the game.

Both teams played well throughout the game. Neither team gave up easy plays. Minnesota’s Johnson played well throughout the game. He came up with big receptions and was able to get into the end zone. Johnson also came up with three touchdowns.  

Minnesota came away with the 35-32 victory over Georgia Southern.

Minnesota’s Johnson came away with 3 receiving touchdowns and finished with 140 yards and his longest catch was for 73 yards.

CENTRAL MINNESOTA CHRISTIAN WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 9, Central Minnesota Christian (CMC) went up against Minneapolis North in a boys' basketball game.

CMC started the game in a zone defense. They forced North to take deep 3-point baskets.

North called a timeout with 13:59 left in the first half. The score was CMC 7, North 2.

After the timeout North went on an 8-0 run.

CMC called a timeout with 12:44 left in the first half. The score was North 10, CMC 7.

North’s Jamil Jackson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. North’s Tyler Johnson also came up with big baskets.

CMC called a timeout with 9:09 left in the first half. The score was North 19, CMC 14.

CMC wasn’t afraid to take deep 3-point shots. They passed the ball around to each other and communicated with each other.

North stepped up their defensive pressure and was able to slow down CMC on the offensive end.

CMC struggled to shoot the ball late in the first half.

At halftime the score was North 49, CMC 29.

As the second half got underway North continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

North continued to make baskets in transition.

North was quicker than CMC throughout the game. North made baskets in transition.

North looked to take time off the clock late in the game.

North came away with the 79-49 victory over CMC.

The leading scorer for CMC was Ethan Brouwer with 14 points.

The leading scorers for North were Tyler Johnson with 20 and Jamil Jackson with 15 points.

MINNEAPOLIS NORTH WENT UP AGAINST MINNEOTA IN THE CLASS A STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Minneapolis North and Minneota squared off at TCF Bank Stadium in the Class A state football finals.

 

Minneapolis North kicked off to start the game. Minneota started on their own 36-yard line. Minneota kept the ball on the ground on their first drive. Minneota’s Garret Hennen came up with some big rushes. Bryce Bruner came up with a 16-yard touchdown run. The extra-point attempt was good.

 

With 8:07 left in the first quarter the score was Minneota 7, Minneapolis North 0.

 

Minneapolis North took over on their own 36-yard line. Minneapolis North couldn’t move the ball down the field and they punted on 4th-and-16.

 

Minneota took over on their own 41-yard line. The Minneapolis North defense stepped and slowed down the Minneota offense.

 

Minneapolis North took over on their own 38-yard line. Minneapolis North’s Tyler Johnson was all over the field. He was able to get the ball to his teammates. Tyler Johnson found Issac Johnson for a 34-yard touchdown reception. The two-point conversion was not good.

 

With 4:19 left in the first quarter the score was Minneota 7, Minneapolis North 6.

 

Minneota took over on their own 33-yard line. Minneota had troubled moving the ball down the field. On 4th-and-8 Minneota punted the ball.

 

Minneapolis North looked to move the ball down the field and Tyler Johnson came up with a 64-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion was not good.

 

With 1:40 left in the first quarter the score was Minneapolis North 12, Minneota 7. That was the score after one quarter of play.

 

Minneota started deep in their own zone. Minneota mixed the running and passing attack as they looked to confuse the Minneapolis North defense.

 

Minneota kept the ball on the ground as they looked to pound out the clock. On 4th-and-5 Minneota punted the ball. They went into the bag of tricks and ended up passing the ball. Isaac Hennen came up with a 34-yard touchdown run. They faked the extra-point attempt and went for two instead which was not good.

 

With 10:08 left in the second quarter the score was Minneota 12, Minneapolis North 12.

 

The kick went into the end zone. Minneota got the ball at their own 20-yard line. Minneapolis North looked to get the ball down the field and they did that as Tyler Johnson came up with huge runs.

 

Minneapolis North turned the ball over on downs.

 

Minneota got the ball back on their own 25-yard line. Minneota’s Bryce Bruner came up with a 21-yard run for a first down. Minneota’s Alex Pohlen threw to Alex Pohlen for a 31-yard touchdown reception. The extra-point attempt was good.

 

With 3:28 left in the second quarter the score was Minneota 20, Minneapolis North 12.  

 

Minneota tuned it over on downs. Minneapolis North’s Tyler Johnson came up with an 8-yard touchdown run. The two point conversion was not good.

 

With 33 seconds left in the second quarter the score was Minneota 20, Minneapolis North 18. That was the score at halftime.

 

Minneota kicked off to start the third quarter. Minneapolis North got the ball on their own 35-yard line. Tyler Johnson ran 17 yards for a first down run. Kori Randle came up with a 10-yard first down run. Minneapolis North continued to look to get the ball down the field. On 4th-and-6 they went for it. Minneapolis North was intercepted in the end zone by Bruner.

 

Minneota punted on 4th-and-2. Minneota recovered the punt. They took over on the Minneapolis North 45-yard line. Minneota moved the ball down the field quickly.

 

After three quarters of play the score was Minneota 20, Minneapolis North 18.

 

Minneota’s Isaac Hennen came up with a 3-yard touchdown run. The extra-point attempt was good.

 

With 11:18 left in third quarter the score was Minneota 27, Minneapolis North 18.

 

Minneapolis North was intercepted by Kyle Hennen. Minneota continued to get the ball down the field. Minneota came up with a touchdown on an Isaac Hennen 1-yard run. The two-point

conversion was good.

 

With 2:39 left in the game the score was Minneota 35, Minneapolis North 18.

 

Minneapolis looked to move the ball down the field. The Minneota defense made it difficult for

Minneapolis North to move the ball down the field.

 

Minneota came away with the 35-18 victory over Minneapolis North.

MINNEAPOLIS NORTH’S TYLER JOHNSON HAS BEEN SELECTED TO PLAY IN THE SEMPER FIDELIS ALL-AMERICAN FOOTBALL GAME

Minneapolis North’s Tyler Johnson has been selected in the Semper Fidelis All American Football Game on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2016. The game will be played at the StubHub Center in Carson, Calif.

The game is put on by the U.S. Marine Corps.

ST. PAUL JOHNSON WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN THE TWIN CITIES BOYS’ BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

St. Paul Johnson and Minneapolis North squared off against each other in the Twin Cities Championship game on Feb. 21. Both teams won their conference titles.

The score went back and forth early. It took a while for each get into a shooting rhythm.

North’s Jamil Jackson came up with mid-range jump shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Johnson played a full court man-to-man defense.

North’s Tyler Johnson came up with huge mid-range jump shots and layups.

North called a timeout with 11:48 left in the first half. The score was North 20, St. Paul Johnson 18.

North came up with steals and layups off the steals. North’s Isaac Johnson came up with steals and was able to knock down free throws after he has fouled.

Both teams looked to make fast break layups. They traded baskets for a period of time midway through the first half.

St. Paul Johnson came up with layups late. North wasn’t able to recover.

At halftime the score was North 49, St. Paul Johnson 47.

As the second half got underway both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and made layups.

St. Paul Johnson got the ball into the hands of Jalen Mobley.

North’s Jamil Jackson came up with two handed slam dunks midway through the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting open in the lane.

Both teams kept the score close late in the game.

Mobley came up with huge shots down the stretch. The defense had a hard time slowing him down.

The game came down to the wire. Neither team gave up easy baskets.

The game was tied at 95 at the end of regulation.

The score continued to be close in the overtime period.

Mobley continued to come up with huge shots in the overtime period.

Tyler Johnson came up with huge baskets down the stretch.

Mobley hit a 3-point shot as time expired to tie the game.

The game was tied at 108 after the first overtime period.

In the second overtime period St. Paul Johnson attack the basket and was able to hit their shots. They were able to ware North down.  

North fought back and stepped up and knocked down shots. The score went back and forth in the second overtime.

St. Paul Johnson came away with the 123-119 victory over North.

The leading scorers for Johnson were Mobley with 52 points, and Elliot with 17 points.

The leading scorers for North were Jackson with 41 points, Isaac Johnson with 22 points and Tyler Johnson with 21 points.
