ST. PAUL JOHNSON WENT UP AGAINST HENRY SIBLEY IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

St. Paul Johnson and Henry Sibley squared off in a boys' basketball game. Henry Sibley started out in a zone defense. Johnson also started out in a zone defense.

Henry Sibley wasn’t afraid to shoot 3-point baskets. If they didn’t think that they could make layups, they would shoot mid-range jump shots and layups.

Johnson looked to make layups in transition. They pushed the ball down the floor well.

Johnson did a good job of attacking the Henry Sibley defense. They got the ball inside. Johnson also came up with layups off of steals. Johnson’s Lorenzo Smith came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Henry Sibley called a timeout with 12:34 left in the first half. The score was Johnson 15, Henry Sibley 6.

Henry Sibley took a lot of time off the clock as they swung the ball around the 3-point line. Johnson was able to create havoc on the defensive end.

Sibley called a timeout with 11:18 left in the first half. The score was Johnson 19, Henry Sibley 6.

The zone defense that Johnson applied made Sibley take deep 3-point shots.

Johnson’s Savion Benton called for the ball on the wing and in the low block. He looked for mid-range jump shots and layups. Smith came up with jump shots off of screens.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and went after rebounds on both ends of the floor.

There were many jump balls in the first half.

Johnson used a motion offense as they did a lot of passing and cutting in the offense. They set screens for each other and let everyone knew where they were supposed to be on the floor.

Henry Sibley got everyone involved in the offense. They looked to get Roy Mack the ball in the low block. Tommy Baumeister came up with rebounds and layups.

Henry Sibley also ran a motion offense. They looked to get to the basket off of screens.

Johnson came up with steals and was able to make layups off of the seals. Savion Parker made 3-point shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Johnson called a timeout with 23.1 seconds left in the first half. The score was Johnson 36, Henry Sibley 21.

Johnson looked to take the last shot, which they did but were unsuccessful.

At halftime the score was Johnson 36, Henry Sibley 21.

Henry Sibley came out in the second half in a zone defense. They played zone throughout the first half. Johnson looked to trap on the defensive end.

Johnson kept on getting the ball into the hands of Derek Siedschlag and Saivon Parker. Both of them came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Henry Sibley called a timeout with 15:34 left in regulation. The score was Johnson 38, Henry Sibley 25.

Parker got hot from behind the 3-point line. The defense had a hard time of slowing him down. On the defensive end he was able to slow down the guy that he was guarding.

Johnson looked to trap the ball was Henry Sibley brought the ball down the floor. They were able to create turnovers off the trap.

Johnson’s Carlin Clarke came up with layups off of fast break. If Clarke didn’t think that he could get a good shot, he would pass it off to one of his teammates.

Henry Sibley called a timeout with 6:39 left in regulation. The score was Johnson 50, Henry Sibley 32.

Henry Sibley looked to make fast break layups in regulation. Johnson stayed in their full court man-to-man press.

Johnson kept on attacking the basket late in the game and came up with layups.

Even though Henry Sibley struggled to shoot the ball throughout the game, they didn’t give up.

Johnson came away with the 67-42 victory over Henry Sibley.

The leading scorer for Henry Sibley was Rieshaun Satar with 7 points

The leading scorers for Johnson were Parker with 18 points, Clarke with 15 points and Smith with 12 points.

HENRY SIBLEY WENT UP AGAINST ANDOVER IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Henry Sibley and Andover squared off in a boys’ basketball game on Dec. 31 at Augsburg College.

Both teams pushed the ball down the floor and looked to score layups.

Andover’s Blake Hartmann came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. The Henry Sibley defense had a hard time slowing him down.

Henry Sibley’s Nile Clem was all over the floor. On the offensive end Clem was able to attack the basket and make layups and jump-shots.

Henry Sibley called a timeout with 8:27 left in the first half. The score was Andover 27, Henry Sibley 13.

Andover passed the ball around the 3-point line and was able to get everyone involved in the offense.

Andover went to a zone defense. They looked to make Henry Sibley take deep 3-point baskets or force the ball into the low block.

Clem came up with huge mid-range jump shots late in the first half.

Andover continued to find the basket late in the first half. The Henry Sibley defense couldn’t slow them down on offense.

At halftime the score was Andover 43, Henry Sibley 26.

As the second half got underway Henry Sibley stayed in a zone defense. They wanted to slow down the Andover offense.

Andover came out shooting strong to start the second half.

Henry Sibley’s Clem continued to make his mid-range jump shots throughout the second half.

Even though Henry Sibley struggled to shoot the ball they kept attacking the basket and looking for their shots.

Andover was got everyone involved in the offense. Andover’s Jack Koolmo, Alec Lorimer, and Trevor Siebold all came up with good shots in the second half.

The final score was Andover 86, Henry Sibley 55.

Scoring for Andover were, C. Johnson 19, Eliason 14, Swanson 13, Koolmo 7, McNallan 7, Hartmann 7, Siebald 4, Fiegum 2, McCready 2, Emmel 2, Goltz 2, Wiles 2, Terhaar 2, Leisner 1.

Scoring for Henry Sibley were, Clem 16, Baumeister 8, Korte 7, Edwards 7, Garibay 5, Wiley 3, Satar 3, Gilberg 2, Mack 2, Fudenberg 1, Peterson 1.


HENRY SIBLEY WENT UP AGAINST HOPKINS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Henry Sibley and Hopkins squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Hopkins started in a zone defense. They wanted to make Henry Sibley deep 3-point baskets.

Hopkins John Warren came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He even threw down a couple of slam dunks.

Henry Sibley struggled to shoot the ball. They looked to make layups and mid-range jump shots but they had difficulty making shots. Henry Sibley’s Nile Clem came up with jump shots early in the game.

Hopkins came up with steals and was able to make layups off of the steals. Hopkins Xaiver Johnson stepped up and was able to hit mid-range jump shots from the paint. The Henry Sibley defense had a hard time slowing Johnson down on offense.

The score at halftime was Hopkins 41, Henry Sibley 14.

As the second half got underway Hopkins Vincent Shahid came up layups and mid-range jump shots.

Hopkins continued to push the ball down the floor and make layups in transition.  

Henry Sibley looked to get baskets in their offense but they had difficulties hitting shots.

Hopkins came away with the 78-35 victory over Henry Sibley.

Hopkins was lead in scoring by Warren with 18 points, Wright with 12 points and Johnson with 12 points.

Henry Sibley was lead in scoring by Clem with 8 points.

HENRY SIBLEY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BASKETBALL GAME


Henry Sibley and Minneapolis North went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. North got out to a quick 10-4 lead.

North was able to make fast-break layups. North did a good job of making layups in transition.

Henry Sibley used both man-to-man and zone defense. They looked to slow down the North offense.

The North offense stalled for a while in the first half.

After a period of three minutes, of passing the ball around the three-point line. North got hot late in the first half as they were able to turn Henry Sibley over and make layups off the turnovers.

At halftime the score was North 36, Henry Sibley 22.

As the second half got under way North continued to push the ball down the floor and make baskets in transition.  

Henry Sibley tried to slow down the North defense down but they were not able to do that.  

North did a good job of taking care of the ball. They were able to get everyone involved in the offense.

North was too much for Henry Sibley to handle. Henry Sibley had trouble scoring and made a lot of turnovers. North did a good job of scoring baskets in transition.

North came away with the 63-37 victory over Henry Sibley.

HENRY SIBLEY TOOK ON RICHFIELD IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 22 Henry Sibley went up against Richfield in a Classic Suburban Conference boys basketball game.
 
Richfield won the tip. They looked to pass the ball around the three-point line to create their offence. Henry Sibley started out in a zone defense.
 
Henry Sibley ran a motion style of offense. Their offense was based on a lot of passing and cutting. Henry Sibley’s Kevin Kolsad was not afraid to shoot deep three-point shots.
 
Richfield looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in their offense.
 
Henry Sibley also looked to score baskets in transition.  
 
Henry Sibley’s Javon Daniels also looked to step up and knock down three-point shots. If Daniels didn’t think that he had a good shot he wasn’t afraid to look for teammate Mark Pumper who looked to make layups from the low block.
 
There were many ties and lead changes throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run.
 
Daniels came up with some nice rebounds as he went after the ball. He was able to get the ball into the hands of his teammates as they worked to get their shots.
 
Richfield held the ball as they took a lot of time off the clock while Henry Sibley stood in their zone defense. Richfield’s Godfrey Luke wasn’t afraid to shoot the three from the corner against the zone.  
 
Richfield called a timeout with 6:24 left in the first half. The score was Richfield 10, Henry Sibley 9.
 
Richfield did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.  They communicated well on both ends of the floor.
 
Henry Sibley came out of their zone defense late in the first half. That made Richfield have to move the ball on the offensive end.
 
Daniels came up with some nice assists as he knew where his teammates were on the floor.
 
Richfield turned the ball over and Henry Sibley was able to hit layups off the turnovers.
 
At halftime the score was Henry Sibley 19, Richfield 17.
 
As the second half got underway Henry Sibley stayed in their zone defense. They made it look like they were going to a man-to-man but then switched it to a zone.
 
Henry Sibley’s Louie Garabay was all over the floor for his team. He took the ball hard to the basket and he knew where his teammates were on the floor at all time.
 
Richfield called a timeout with 16:17 left in regulation. The score was Henry Sibley 19, Richfield 17.
 
Luke continued drive to the basket as he looked to make layups. If however Luke thought he could a good shot from behind the arch, he would spot up and shoot the three-point shot.
 
Pumper wasn’t afraid to drive to the basket as well. He looked to make layups in the second half. Pumper wasn’t scared of getting fouled.
 
Richfield came out cold to start the second half. They were not able to hit shots that they put up.
 
Henry Sibley took advantage of that as they kept on attacking the basket.
 
Richfield looked to double team the Henry Sibley defenders who ever had the ball. Henry Sibley did a good job of recognizing that and was able to get out of the trap by advancing the ball down the court.
 
Richfield’s Mouhari Mouhamed scored the team’s first basket on a free throw with 12:12 left in regulation
 
Richfield kept on attacking the glass in the second half. They took mid-range jump shots but they were not able to go in.
 
Henry Sibley was able to keep swinging the ball around the three-point line as they kept taking time off the clock in the second half. Kenneth Jinkins came up with some nice mid-range jump shots.
 
Richfield also looked to score on fast break chances. They were able to do that, as they were able to get open looks at the basket.
 
Richfield called a timeout with 7:03 left in regulation. The score was Henry Sibley 35, Richfield 26.
 
Henry Sibley ran their motion offense. They passed and cut as they looked to take time off the clock. Richfield did a good job of defending it.
 
Richfield switched between man-to-man and zone throughout the second half.
 
Richfield’s Luke kept on hitting his mid-range jump shots to keep his team in the game late in regulation.
 
Henry Sibley called a timeout with 2:33 left to go in regulation. The score was Henry Sibley 40, Richfield 33.
 
Richfield started out the second half slow and Henry Sibley was able to counter that. Henry Sibley stepped up and was able to knock down their shots throughout the second half. Richfield didn’t give up any easy shots.
 
Richfield tried to make a comeback late in regulation but that came up short.
 
Henry Sibley came away with the 45-38 victory over Richfield.
 
The leading scorers for Richfield were Luke and Peterson each with 10 points.
 
The leading scorers for Henry Sibley were Pumper with 14 points and Kolstad and Jinkins with 8 points each.

HENRY SIBLEY TOOK ON MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 30 Henry Sibley and Minneapolis North went up against each other in a boys basketball game at Augsburg College.
 
Henry Sibley looked to push the ball down the floor as they wanted to get the ball in transition. Guard Solon Ellis did a good job of bringing the ball down floor and was able to get his team into an offense pattern.
 
North called a timeout with 15:09 left in the first half. The score was Henry Sibley 11, North 2.
 
North’s D.J. Hunter was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor. He had good court awareness. On the offensive end Hunter was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court. North’s Tyler Johnson got his shot going in the first half. He was able to hit jump shots from within the three-point line.
 
Henry Sibley did a good job of running their offense. They were able to get the ball into the hands of Javon Davis and Zach Edwards. Those two were able to make shots that they put up. Davis and Edwards were not afraid to shoot the ball.
 
Henry Sibley looked to trap the ball on defense. They wanted to fluster North when they were on offense. Henry Sibley did a good job of doing that.
 
North couldn’t get into an offensive shooting rhythm in the first half. They had a hard time making layups in the first half.
 
Johnson continued to hit his shots late in the first half. He took the ball to the basket from everywhere on the floor.
 
Henry Sibley’s Mark Pumper came up with some nice shots late in the first half. He was able to make shots that he put up.
 
Ellis came up with some nice steals lake in the first half. He was able to convert the defensive steals to points on the offensive end.
 
At halftime the score was Henry Sibley 46, North 32.
 
As the second half got underway both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and attack the basket in the second half.
 
North tried to chip away at the deficit in the second half but they were unsuccessful at doing that. They played hard throughout.
 
Hunter and Jackson continued to attack the basket and make shots that they put up.
 
Pumper came through big for Henry Sibley as he was able to hit his layups that he shot in the second half.
 
North called a timeout with 10:51 left in regulation, the score was Henry Sibley 58, North 43.   
 
North continued to attack the basket late in regulation. They knocked down shots late in the second half. North tied the game at 64 with just over 5:00 left in regulation. After that the score went back and forth for a period of time.
 
Henry Sibley came away with the 80-71 victory over North.
 
The leading scorer for Henry Sibley was Pumper with 28 and the leading scorer for North was Jackson with 18 points.

PRIOR LAKE TOOK ON HENRY SIBLEY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

In the first game of the 2013-’14 season Prior Lake went up against Henry Sibley in a boys’ basketball game.
 
Prior Lake started in a man-to-man defense. They wanted to make it hard for Henry Sibley to get shots up.
 
Jon Sobaski for Prior Lake brought the ball down the floor. He got his teammates involved in the offense. Connor Bair looked to get the ball in the block for Prior Lake. If Bair thought that he had a good shot from the low post he was not afraid to shoot it.  
 
Prior Lake was able to score baskets from anywhere on the court. Kevin McKiernan knocked down some deep three-point shots.  
 
Javon Daniels for Henry Sibley attacked the basket well and was able to beat his guy off the dribble and hit contested shots.
 
Henry Sibley called a timeout with 10:48 left in the first half. The score was Prior Lake 19, Henry Sibley 12.
 
Bair and Daniels fought for rebounds on both ends of the floor. Daniels was not afraid to shoot an outside shot.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the first half.
 
At halftime the score was Prior Lake 38, Henry Sibley 30.
 
As the second half got underway Prior Lake continued to push the ball down the floor.
 
The game was physical as both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. There were many jump balls in the second half.
 
Henry Sibley strung some baskets together midway through the second half. The Prior Lake offense went stagnant
 
Sobaski came up with some steals and was able to convert on the offensive end.
 
Henry Sibley went to a full court press as they looked to confuse the Prior Lake defense.
 
Neither team went on a run in the second half. The game was close throughout the contest.
 
Prior Lake stepped up their defensive intensity late in the contest.
 
Henry Sibley didn’t back down they clawed throughout the contest. The game was tied at 66 with 44 seconds left in regulation.
 
Tevin Jerome Grant scored a basket with 4.7 seconds left in regulation to give Prior Lake a 68-66 lead. That was the final.
 
The leading scorers for Henry Sibley were Daniels with 21 points and Kolstad with 14 points.
 
The leading scorers for Prior Lake were Sobaski with 19 points, Bair with 15 points, and Austin Heidecker with 14 points.
 
With this victory this was the first victory for head coach Dan Rubischko. Rubischko is in his first year coaching as the head varsity boys’ basketball coach at Prior Lake High School.
