MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT TOOK ON MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

The Minneapolis Roosevelt Teddies took on the Minneapolis Southwest Lakers in a boys basketball game on Jan. 22. 

 

Both teams started in man-to-man defense.

 

Southwest’s Allan Edwards picked up two quick personal fouls and was replaced.

 

Southwest looked to push the ball down the floor and swing the ball around the three-point line. They looked to get layups.

 

Roosevelt called a timeout with 14:01 left in the first half. The score was Southwest 4, Roosevelt 0.

 

Southwest’s Lanick Knight looked to find a mid-range jump shot. He wasn’t afraid to shoot the ball.

 

His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball. His teammate Cameron Ross also came up with some nice jump shots.

 

Southwest came up with some nice defensive steals and was able to make layups off the turnovers.

 

Roosevelt’s Terrence Hicks came up with some good inside shots. He was not afraid to drive to the basket.

 

Knight stepped up and also was able to knock down some three-point shots.

 

Southwest’s AJ Ray got his team going offensively. He called out plays that he wanted run and he had very good court awareness.

 

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and rebounds on both ends of the floor.

 

Southwest’s Akeem Smith called out plays that he wanted run. He was a good floor leader as he let his teammates know where they were supposed to be on the floor.

 

Hicks kept on hitting inside and outside shots to keep his team in the game.

 

Southwest called a timeout with 5:09 left in the first half. The score was Southwest 24, Roosevelt 19.

 

The Southwest defense tightened up as they were able to slow Roosevelt down on the offensive end.  

 

The Roosevelt offense went cold late in the first half.

 

At halftime the score was Southwest 34, Roosevelt 29.

 

Edwards got hot from behind the three-point line to start the second half.  

 

Southwest continued to attack the basket. Knight came up with some big shots in the second half.

 

The Southwest offense came alive in the second half. They were able to get to the basket right past the Roosevelt defenders. Roosevelt couldn’t slow them down in transition.

 

Southwest just overwhelmed Roosevelt in the second half.

 

Southwest came away with the 84-49 victory over Roosevelt.

 

The leading scorer of Roosevelt was Hicks with 20 points.

 

The leading scorers for Southwest were Alexander and Ross each with 15 points, Knight with 14 points and Edwards with 13 points.

MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST TOOK ON EAST RIDGE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Minneapolis Southwest and East Ridge went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game.

 

Southwest looked to push the ball down the floor and looked to get layups. Southwest guard Akeem Smith was able to get his teammates involved in the offense.

 

East Ridge moved the ball down the floor quickly. They were able to get fast break baskets. Brian Ishola for East Ridge stepped up and knocked down some nice jump shots.

 

East Ridge called a timeout with 13:12 left in the first half. The score was East Ridge 10, Southwest 4.

 

Southwest was able to get some steals as they were able to string some baskets together.

 

Southwest called a timeout with 8:59 left in the first half. The score was East Ridge 20, Southwest 11.

 

Xavier Cole made some good jump shots for East Ridge. He was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor. If he didn’t think that he had a good shot he would pass it to one of his teammates for the assist.

 

Southwest kept attacking the basket. They were able to get everyone involved in the offense. On the defensive end they were able to frustrate the East Ridge players as they made it tough for them to hit shots that they put up.

 

Lanick Knight for Southwest was able get to the basket and get fouled. He was able to make his free throws. Knight was also able to get steals and turn them into points.

 

At halftime the score was East Ridge 41 Southwest 30.

 

The second half got underway with a lot of intensity. East Ridge attacked the basket as they looked to take time off the clock and get quality shots.

 

Southwest called a timeout with 15:24 left in regulation. The score was East Ridge 45, Southwest 34.

 

Southwest’s Edwards did a good job of attacking the basket. He was able to make layups and if he didn’t think that he had a decent shot he would pass it to his teammates for an assist.

 

Southwest swung the ball around the three-point line as they wanted to get into an offensive rhythm.

 

Southwest had a difficulty shooting the ball in the second half. They had a long period of time where they went into a scoring drought.

 

East Ridge came away with the 83-60 victory over Southwest. The leading scorers for Southwest were Ross with 19, Edwards 18, and Knight with 16.

 

The leading scorers for Southwest were Ishola with 24 points, Jake Knupp 19, Sid Tomes 12.

MINNETONKA TOOK ON MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Nov. 23, Minnetonka and Minneapolis Southwest went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game.

 

Minnetonka looked to set the tempo of the game early. They looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

 

Akeem Smith brought the ball down the floor for Southwest. He looked to get his teammates the ball in spots where they could make easy baskets.

 

Minnetonka’s Careino Gurley got his teammates involved in the offense. He did a good job of passing the ball to his teammates. He was able to get the ball into the hands of guard Amar Miller. Miller was able to step up and knock down some good shots.

 

Smith kept his team in the game. He was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor. If he thought that that he had a good shot he was not afraid to shoot it.

 

The score went back and forth throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run in the first half.

 

Camron Ross for Southwest was able to hit layups in the fast break. He was also able to beat his defender off the dribble.

 

Minnetonka called a timeout with 11:12 left in the first half. The score was Southwest 20, Minnetonka 18.

 

Smith did a good job of slowing down the guy that he has guarding. He guarded different players throughout the game.

 

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. These teams played with a lot of emotion and intensity.

 

Southwest’s Lanick Knight was all over the floor. He stepped up and was able to knock down some shots. His teammates did a good job of finding him in spots where he could shoot it.

 

The score continued to go back and forth throughout the first half. Neither team was able to go on a run.

 

Ross was not afraid to shoot the ball from wherever on the floor. He took it hard to the basket and was not afraid to attack the basket.

 

Both teams were a little sloppy late in the first half.  They each rushed their shots.

 

At halftime the score was Minnetonka 45, Southwest 35.

 

Southwest continued to push the ball down the floor to start the second half. Minnetonka came out firing on all cylinders. They were able to move the ball well and strung together some baskets and were able to slow down Southwest.

 

Southwest didn’t give up. They attacked the basket and they swung the ball around the three-point line and they looked for shots that they thought that they could make.

 

Minnetonka called a timeout with 12:13 left in regulation. The score was Minnetonka 62, Southwest 49.

 

Minnetonka kept the intensity up as they defended well.

 

Peter Weiss for Minnetonka came off the bench and played well.

 

Southwest was not able to hit shots down the stretch. Minnetonka was a little quicker than Southwest.

 

 Moses really played well for Minnetonka. He knew where he was supposed to be on the floor and he was not afraid to shoot the ball. He played with a lot of heart and passion. The defense had a hard time stopping him.

 

The game got off to a good start. Minnetonka started to pull away late in the first half and they were able to keep the energy going throughout the second half.

 

Minnetonka came away with the 91-70 victory over Southwest.  

 

The leading scores for Minnetonka were Moses with 33 points, Grant Steele with 12, Careino Gurley with 11 points, and Amar Miller with 9 points.

 

The leading scorer for Southwest was Knight with 21.
