HOLY ANGELS AND BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY WENT UP AGAINST EACH OTHER IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 16, Holy Angels and Bloomington Kennedy went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game.

As the game got underway, Holy Angels looked like they used full-court pressure, making it difficult for Kennedy to bring the ball down the floor.

Kennedy pushed the ball down the floor as they looked to score layups in transition. Kennedy’s Kahlil Copeland looked like he could take mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. If he didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it to one of his teammates.

Holy Angels' Peter Koening came up with deep 3-point shots. He did a good job of calling for the ball in spots where he knew where he could shoot it.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 13:49 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 12, Kennedy 6.
Kennedy struggled shooting the ball for a period in the first half. Even though they struggled shooting, they took the ball strongly to the basket.

Kennedy’s D’Andre Moffitt looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. 

Kennedy called a timeout with 11:25 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 18, Kennedy 10.

Holy Angels did a good job of moving the ball around the 3-point line and taking time off the 35-second shot clock.

Kennedy struggled to shoot the ball midway through the first half. Even though they struggled, they kept on attacking the basket and looking for their shots.

Kennedy applied pressure and made it difficult for Holy Angels to get an open look at the basket.

Kennedy called a timeout with 7:29 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 24, Kennedy 13.

Both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition. Neither team gave up an uncontested shot.

Holy Angels kept the defensive pressure on Kennedy late in the first half. They didn’t let them get an open look at the basket.

Holy Angels' Blake Nixon made shots and knocked down free throws. He was not afraid to take the ball strongly to the basket. He wasn’t afraid to shoot from behind the 3-point line.

Holy Angels' Arjun Jain also came up with deep 3-point shots late in the first half.

At halftime, the score was Holy Angels 41, Kennedy 27.

As the second half got underway, Holy Angels continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 17:16 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 41, Kennedy 29.

Kennedy’s Musungindji Mwenentanda came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half.

Kennedy called a timeout with 15:32 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 45, Kennedy 31.

Kennedy went to a full-court press midway through the second half. They wanted to slow down the Holy Angels' offense.

Mitchell came up with steals and turned them into layups on the offensive end. He did a good job of communicating with his teammates.

Kennedy called a timeout with 8:59 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 61, Kennedy 39.

Both teams dove on the floor late in the game.

Winston kept on coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the game.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. Holy Angels used their quickness to get past the Kennedy defense. Even though Kennedy struggled to shoot the ball throughout the game, they kept on attacking the basket.

In a hard-fought game, Holy Angels came away with the 82-49 victory over Kennedy.

The leading scores for Holy Angels were Nixon with 23 points and DePoint with 19 points. The leading scorers for Kennedy were Mwenentanda with 18 points and Mitchell with 15 points.

COLUMBIA HEIGHTS AND HOLY ANGELS WENT UP AGAINST EACH OTHER IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 11, Columbia Heights and Holy Angels went up against each other in a basketball game.

Columbia Heights looked to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in

transition.


Holy Angels started the game out in a zone defense. That made Columbia Heights swing the ball

around the 3-point line and take a lot of time off the 35-second shot clock.


Holy Angels was very vocal on both ends of the floor. They communicated well with each other.

Holy Angels guard Blake Nixson knew where his teammates were on the floor. He was able to

get the ball into his teammates' hands.


Columbia Heights put on a full-court press as they looked to force a turnover. The defensive

pressure that Columbia Heights didn’t seem to bother Holy Angels.


Holy Angels called a timeout with 14:39 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 5,

Columbia Heights 4.


Both teams were very vocal throughout the first half. Both teams applied defensive pressure once the other team crossed the half-court line.


Holy Angels ran a motion offense, using picks and rolls to move the ball. They were

always looking for the shot after they came off the pick-and-roll.


Holy Angels Arjun Jain came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half.


If Jain didn’t think that he had a good shot, he wasn’t afraid to pass it to one of his teammates.

Holy Angels Jake Winston came up with layups. He took the ball strong to the basket.

Columbia Heights Jayvion Gardner and Judah Caine both came up with mid-range jump shots

and layups.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and went after rebounds on both ends of the floor.

Neither team gave up a non-contested shot.

Columbia Heights called a timeout with 7:54 left in the first half. The score was Columbia

Heights 22, Holy Angels 14.

Jain knocked down key 3-point shots late in the game that kept Holy Angels in it. He was able to

knock down free throws.

Columbia Heights was able to come up with steals on the defensive end and turn them into

layups on the offensive end.

Holy Angels kept attacking the basket late in the first half. They were able to make their shots

late in the half.

Columbia Heights Nico Luitjens Weatherspoon came up with steals and layups. He didn’t let the

defensive pressure bother him as he took the ball to the basket.

At halftime the score was Columbia Heights 37, Holy Angels 31.

As the second half got underway, both teams came out with a lot of energy. Holy Angels looked

like they wanted to set the tempo of the second half early. They continued to look to get the ball

into the hands of Jain. Izaak DePoint came up with mid-range jump shots and layups for Holy

Angels as well.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 15:09 left in regulation. The score was Columbia Heights 42,

Holy Angels 38.

Holy Angels kept up the defensive pressure throughout the second half.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 11:53 left in regulation. The score was Columbia Heights 50,

Holy Angels 44.

Nixon stepped up and knocked down 3-point shots and mid-range jump shots in the second half.

Holy Angels got hot midway through the second half, with just under 11:00 let to go in the

second half they tied the score at 50. There were multiple ties and lead changes after that.

Gardner got hot from behind the 3-point line and he stepped up and knocked down 3-point shots.

His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball where he could shoot it.

The game remained close, down the stretch.

Columbia Heights called a timeout with 7:48 left in regulation. The score was Columbia Heights

62, Holy Angels 60.

Nixon was able to dribble past the defenders and get to the basket as he continued to make mid-

range shots and layups.

Holy Angels was able to turn Columbia Heights over and came up with layups off the turnovers.

The score went back and forth with under 5:00 left in regulation.

Weatherspoon and Gardner kept Columbia Heights in the game. They both came up with layups

and jump shots.

Columbia Heights called a timeout with 3:15 left in regulation. The score was Columbia Heights

77, Holy Angels 69.

Holy Angels didn’t give up late in the game. They gave it all throughout the game.

Columbia Heights called a timeout with 1:15 left in regulation. The score was Columbia Heights

77, Holy Angels 74.

As the clock wound down in the final minute Holy Angels kept the pressure on Columbia

Heights. Holy Angels stepped up and made shots within a minute to go.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 27.5 seconds left in regulation. The score was Columbia

Heights 78, Holy Angels 76.


Both teams scrambled for the ball and came up with shots late in the game.

In an overall hard-fought battle by both teams Columbia Heights came away with the 79-76

victory over Holy Angels.

The leading scorers for Holy Angels were Jain with 23 and DePoint with 20 points. The leading

scorers for Columbia Heights were Gardner with 19 points and Caine with 14 points.

DELASALLE WENT UP AGAINST HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 10, DeLaSalle and Holy Angels went up against each other in a boys' basketball game. Going into the game, DeLaSalle had a record of 2-0, while Holy Angels had a record of 1-2.

DeLaSalle started the game in a man-to-man defense. They looked to make Holy Angels take time off the clock.

It took each team a while to get into a good game flow.

DeLaSalle took a lot of time off the 35-second shot clock as they passed the ball around the 3-point line, getting everyone involved in the offense.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 15:18 left in the first half. The score was DeLaSalle 5, Holy Angels 4.

DeLaSalle’s Dorian Pruitt knocked down 3-point shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could knock down shots.

Holy Angels looked to score baskets in transition. They were able to get past the DeLaSalle defense and make layups in transition.

Holy Angels did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They also talked to each other on both ends of the floor.

DeLaSalle’s Andrew Apiagyei came up with layups in traffic underneath the basket. He wasn’t afraid to take the ball strong to the basket. Teammate Jeaden Uden also came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Holy Angels struggled to shoot the ball midway through the first half. As a team, their shots were not falling. Even though they had trouble scoring, they kept on shooting the ball.

Holy Angels Emmett Anderson attempted 3-point shots. He was able to make mid-range jump shots and layups. Teammate Danial Kelly stepped up and knocked down shots as well.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 8:44 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 13, DeLaSalle 23.

Daniel Devine came up with mid-range jump shots and gave his team an offensive spark.

Pruitt came up with deep 3-point shots as he got hot late in the first half. His teammates kept feeding him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Holy Angels swung the ball around the 3-point line as they looked for their shots late in the half.

Holy Angels stayed in their zone defense throughout the first half. DeLaSalle did well attacking the defense and getting to the basket.

DeLaSalle called a timeout with 2:32 left in the first half. The score was DeLaSalle 45, Holy Angels 19.

Danial Devine kept up on coming up with steals and turning them into layups late in the first half.

At halftime, the score was DeLaSalle 55, Holy Angels 19.

As the second half got underway, DeLaSalle continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

DeLaSalle’s Ichima Idoko knocked down 3-point shots and then sprinted down the floor to play defense. Idoko’s teammates knew where he was on the floor throughout the game.

Both teams continued to attack the basket throughout the second half.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 12:45 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 73, Holy Angels 26.

Both teams played hard throughout the second half. Neither team gave up.

DeLaSalle took much time off the shot clock in the second half.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 6:15 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 90, Holy Angels 29.

Holy Angels couldn’t get into a shooting rhythm. The pressure that DeLaSalle applied made it hard for them to get shots they could make.

In a hard-fought game by both teams, DeLaSalle came away with a victory of 94-43 over the Holy Angels.

The leading scorers for Holy Angels were Kelly with 9 points and Daniel Devine with 8 points. The leading scorers for DeLaSalle were Udean with 22 points and Pruitt with 21 points.

MOUND WESTONKA WENT UP AGAINST HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Thurs, Dec. 5, Mound Westonka and Holy Angels went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game.

Holy Angels started the game with a zone defense, which caused Mound Westonka to swing the ball around the 3-point line.

Holy Angels guard Rhikenzo Lee came up with 3-point baskets early. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Mound Westonka pushed the ball down the floor in transition, and George Eberhart also made 3-point shots.

Mound Westonka started the game with a zone defense, which spread out the Holy Angels' offense. Holy Angels spread the ball around and got everyone involved in the offense. They were not afraid to shoot three-point shots.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 13:40 left in the first half. The score was Mound Westonka 8, Holy Angels 6.

Mound Westonka's Jacob Orenge got his teammates in the game by passing the ball and making good cuts.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls, as there were multiple jump balls throughout the first half.

Holy Angels Arjun Jain came off the bench and provided an offensive spark. He stepped up and knocked down mid-range jump shots and layups to keep Holy Angels in the game.

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run early.

Mound Westtonka’s Max Kraay and Cole Drill both game up with shots in the first half. Their teammates knew where to get them the ball as they called for it and made shots from all over the court.

Mound Westonka called a timeout with 6:01 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 20, Mound Westonka 19.

Both teams made fast break layups late in the game. As they both raced up and down the floor.

Holy Angels Blake Nixon made 3-point shots late in the first half.

Neither team went on a run in the first half, and the game remained tight throughout.

At halftime, the score was Mound Westonka 42, Holy Angels 34.

As the second half got underway, Mound Westonka started the second half in a zone defense. They made Holy Angels pass the ball around the 3-point line and take a lot of time off the 35-second shot clock.

Mound Westonka slowed down the Holy Angels offense late in the first half and early in the second half.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 13:29 left in regulation. The score was Mound Westonka 49, Holy Angels 39.

Even as the Holy Angels struggled to shoot the ball in the second half, they kept their heads up and attacked the basket.

Holy Angels took a lot of time off the 35-second shot clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line, getting everyone involved in the offense.

Nixon kept attacking the basket, coming off screens and making baskets throughout the second half.

Jain attacked the basket and kept on making shots late in the game.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 3:34 left in regulation. The score was Mound Westonka 69, Holy Angels 51.

Both teams played hard throughout the game, and neither team gave up. Mound Westonka had momentum late in the first half and kept it up throughout the second half. In a hard-fought game played by both teams, Mound Westonka came away with the 85-55 victory over Holy Angels.

BROOKLYN CENTER WENT UP AGAINST HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 30 Brooklyn Center and Holy Angels went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. The game was played at Holy Angels. There was not a roster available either at the game or online through multiple sites for Brooklyn Center.  

Both teams started out in a zone defense. Holy Angels looked to push the ball down the floor in transition. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 16:49 left in the first half. The score was Brooklyn Center 4, Holy Angels 0.  

Brooklyn Center used a lot of time off the clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line.  
It took a while for each team to figure the other team out. Holy Angels used time off the clock. 

Holy Angels' Anderson Stark got his teammates involved in the offense by passing the ball to his teammates.  

Holy Angels' Daniel Davine came up with layups in transition. He knew where his teammates were on the floor and his teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.  

Brooklyn Center called a timeout with 8:37 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 16, Brooklyn Center 10.  

Holy Angels' Adryan Miller made layups in transition that kept them in the game.  

Brooklyn Center called a timeout with 5:52 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 23, Brooklyn Center 11.  

Holy Angels came up with steals late in the first half and turned them into layups on the offensive end. 

Holy Angels came up with shots late in the first half. They were able to slow down the Brooklyn Center offense late in the half. 

At halftime, the score was Holy Angels 38, Brooklyn Center 21.  

As the second half got underway both teams looked to push the ball down the floor and look for baskets in transition.  

Nixon continued to come up with shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Brooklyn Center looked to trap Holy Angels when they passed the half-court line. Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls.  

Brooklyn Center continued to struggle shooting the ball throughout the second half. Even though they struggled shooting they kept on shooting the ball.  

Holy Angels called a timeout with 4:40 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 60, Brooklyn Center 46.  

Both teams played hard throughout the game, and neither team gave up. Holy Angels was quicker than Brooklyn Center.  

Brooklyn Center called a timeout with 1:58 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 64, Brooklyn Center 52.  

Brooklyn Center came up with baskets late in the game that kept them in the game. 

Brooklyn Center called a timeout with 49.7 seconds left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 66, Brooklyn Center 57.  

Holy Angels kept attacking the basket, looking for shots.  

Brooklyn Center called a timeout with 23 seconds left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 66, Brooklyn Center 59. 

Holy Angels came away with a 69-61 victory over Brooklyn Center in a hard-fought, well-played game.

MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH WENT UP AGAINST THE ACADEMY OF HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On March 1, Minneapolis South and Holy Angels went up against each other in a boys’ basketball non-conference game. Going into the game South had a record of 4-4 while Holy Angels had a record of 4-8.

As the game got underway it took a few minutes for both teams to feel each other out. Both teams looked confidant and were very vocal on the floor.

Holy Angels started the game off in a zone defense. They wanted to make South take time off the clock. South also started the game out in a zone defense.

South looked to push the ball down the floor and looked to get the ball into the hands of Chiang Ring. Ring looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups.

South’s guard Jerome Williams did a good job of leading the South’s offense. He knew where his teammates were on the floor and was able to get them the ball in spots where they could shoot it.

It took a while for South to get their offense going. They turned the ball over in the middle of the lane and Holy Angels came up with steals and turned them into layups.

South’s Dewayne Givens stepped up and knocked down jump shots and made his free throws and layups.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and went after rebounds.

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run.

Holy Angels' Emmett Johnson and Camden Holter each came off screens and were able to make layups.

South received a technical foul at the 11:06 mark in the first half. They did not have a player entered in the book.

South played man-to-man defense.

South called a timeout with 10:06 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 12, South 9.

After the timeout, South looked to push the ball down the floor and score layups in transition.

Johnson kept on coming up with shots in the paint. He did a good job of calling for the ball. On the defensive end, he was able to contain the guy that he was guarding.

South’s Chiang Ring came up with layups off passes. He called for the ball in the paint.

Both teams crashed the boards. When the ball was shot all 10 players went after the rebound.

South was able to attack the gaps in the Holy Angels defense. South took their time on the offensive end.

Both teams were very physical. They were not afraid of contact.

Williams stepped up and knocked down 3-point shots. His shooting kept South in the game late in the first half.

The game was close throughout the first half. There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the first half.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 1:04 left in regulation. The score was South 20, Holy Angels 19.

Both teams continued to race up and down the floor looking for fast-break opportunities.

Williams came off screens and got to the basket. He was very vocal on both ends of the floor.

At halftime, the score was South 22, Holy Angels 19.

As the second half got underway South continued to push the ball down the floor and looked for layups in transition.

Johnson continued to attack the basket and was able to make layups.

The score remained close in the opening minutes of the second half.

South went to a zone defense early in the second half.

South ran a motion offense they passed and cut a lot and set a lot of picks and came off cuts well. They also were able to get Williams the ball.

Holy Angels struggled to shoot the ball in the second half. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 13:20 left in regulation. The score was South 30, Holy Angels 21.

Holy Angels swung the ball around the 3-point line and got everyone involved in the offense.

Holy Angles pressed South with just under 12 minutes to go. South was able to break the press and get to the basket and make layups in transition.

Holter knocked down a 3-point shot and then came up with a steal and an assist.

Boyd stepped up and knocked down 3-point shots. Even though Holy Angels struggled shooting the ball they kept shooting. Teammate Aidan Smith came up with layups as well.

South called a timeout with 7:10 left in the regulation. The score was South 46, Holy Angels 38.

Everyone stepped up and played hard throughout the game. South’s Williams came up with baskets in key parts of the game.

South called a timeout with 4:44 left in regulation. The score was South 49, Holy Angels 44.

Holy Angels' Rob Issa came up with jump shots late in the game. That kept Holy Angels in the game.

The game came down to the wire.

Holter came up with a deep 3-point shot that got Holy Angles within 1 point with just under 3:00 to go.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 2:30 let in regulation. The score was South 53, Holy Angels 52.

Boyd came up with a deep 3-point shot to give Holy Angels the lead.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 1:55 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 55, South 53.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 1:14 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 57, South 55.

South turned it over late and Holy Angels came up with layups.

South called a timeout with 51.8 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 59, South 57.

Holy Angles came up with baskets late in the game and South was not able to recover.

South called a timeout with 9.9 seconds left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 62, South 59.

Both teams played hard. The game was close throughout neither team gave up. Holy Angels came away with the 65-59 victory over South.

The leading scorer for South was Williams with 21 points.

The leading scorers for Holy Angels were Holter with 18 points, Johnson with 16 points and Issa with 15 points.

RICHFIELD WENT UP AGAINST HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 26, Richfield and Holy Angels went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game Richfield had a record of 9-2 while Holy Angels had a record of 4-7.

Richfield started the game out in a zone defense. They wanted to make Holy Angels take deep 3-point shots.

Richfield passed the ball around the 3-point line. They looked to take time off the clock, and they were able to get everyone involved in the offense.

It took a while for each team’s offense to get going offensively.

Holy Angels took their time on the offensive end. They passed the ball around the 3-point line. Holy Angels got everyone involved in the offense.

Richfield played a zone defense. They wanted to make Holy Angels take their time on the offensive end and they contested shots.

Holy Angels' Camden Holter came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. Teammate Emmett Johnson was able to come off screens and get to the basket and make jump shots.

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the first half. Neither team went on a substantial run.

Richfield’s Jaden Wollmuth looked to call for the ball on the offensive end and came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 6:58 left in the first half. The score was Richfield 18, Holy Angels 17.

Wollmuth continued to come up with big shots throughout the first half. His teammates knew where to get him the ball.

Richfield looked to trap the ball on the defensive end and create turnovers.

Richfield called a timeout with 4:54 left in the first half. The score was Richfield 20, Holy Angels 17.

The game remained close late in the first half as neither team went on a run.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 1:35 left in the first half. The score was Richfield 26, Holy Angels 22.

As the first half wound down both teams continued to attack the basket and look for their shots.

At halftime, the score was Richfield 32, Holy Angels 24.

As the second half got underway both teams continued to play hard and run their offense.

Richfield looked to get the ball into the hands of Mitchell January and Wollmuth both of whom came up with big shots.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 12:18 left in regulation. The score was Richfield 38, Holy Angels 29.

Holy Angels struggled to shoot the ball in the second half.

Richfield’s Isaiah Casey came up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the game.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 10:42 left in regulation. The score was Richfield 42, Holy Angels 29.

Richfield kept the trap on as they continued to look to turn Holy Angels over.

Richfield called a timeout with 7:22 left in regulation. The score was Richfield 53, Holy Angels 35.

Richfield’s offense came to life in the second half. They were able to make shots down the stretch and they were able to slow down Holy Angels.

Holy Angels got hot with just under 6:00 to go they strung some layups together and got steals and made their jump shots.

Richfield called a timeout with 4:10 left to go in regulation. The score was Richfield 59, Holy Angels 46.

Both teams battled to the end.

Richfield came away with the 68-51 victory over Holy Angels.

The leading scorers for Richfield were Grayson with 20 points, Wollmuth with 15 points and Isaiah Casey-Hammond and January each with 11 points.

The leading scorers for Holy Angels were Holter with 19 points and Johnson with 9 points.

ST. ANTHONY VILLAGE WENT UP AGAINST HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 5, St. Anthony Village and Holy Angels went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game St. Anthony had a record of 2-4 while Holy Angels had a record of 1-4.

Holy Angels started the game in a man-to-man defense. St. Anthony looked to move the ball around the floor and get everyone into the offense early. St. Anthony took a lot of time off the clock while they were swinging the ball around the 3-point line.

Both teams took a lot of time off the clock early as they both played zone defense.

St. Anthony’s Luke Omodt looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

There were multiple ties and lead changes early. As it took each team to get comfortable in their offenses.

Holy Angels Bryce Boyd came off screens and made mid-range jump shots. Teammate Camden Holter stepped up and knocked down 3-point shots.

Holy Angels did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They were patient with the ball on the offensive end.

Holy Angels stepped up the defensive pressure and was able to turn St. Anthony over and they were able to come up with layups off the steals.

St. Anthony struggled shooting midway through the first half. Holy Angels took advantage of St. Anthony's misses as they came up with rebounds and turned them into fast-break layups.

There were multiple ties and lead changes with under 10 minutes to go in the first half.

St. Anthony was not afraid to shoot deep 3-point shots. All 10 players on the floor crashed the boards going after the rebounds.

St. Anthony’s Caydin Hauser came up with deep 3-point shots in the first half. His teammates got him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Holy Angels' Emmett Johnson came up with big shots late in the first half. On the defensive end, he was able to slow down the guy that he was guarding.

Neither team went on a run in the first half.

At halftime, the score was St. Anthony 32, Holy Angels 31.

As the second half got underway Holy Angels continued to push the ball down the floor and look for layups in transition.

St. Anthony looked to get the ball into the hands of Lucas and Omodt. Both of whom made mid-range jump shots and layups.

Johnson and Holter for Holy Angels both made shots as well.

Holy Angels did a good job of sprinting down the floor and getting layups in transition. If Holy Angels did not have a fast break opportunity, they would pass the ball around the 3-point line and take time off the clock.

Holy Angels guard Terrence Roberts Jr. called for the ball on the offensive end as he came up with layups. He was not afraid to take the ball strong to the basket.

Omodt kept St. Anthony in the game as he kept on attacking the basket and coming up with shots.

With just under 13 minutes to go in regulation Holy Angels came up with fast break points and St. Anthony was not able to keep up with them in transition.

St. Anthony’s Caydin Hauser came up with layups that kept his team in the game.

Holy Angels kept attacking the basket and getting layups in transition throughout the second half. They also passed and cut and came off screens in their offense as they were able to come up with baskets.

St. Anthony called a timeout with 7:55 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 52, St. Anthony 47.

Holy Angels continued to take time off the clock late in the second half. They were very patient with the ball. On the defensive end they applied pressure to St. Anthony in their 2-3 zone that made it difficult for them to have an open look at the basket.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 4:37 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 57, St. Anthony 52.

St. Anthony’s Max Kachamn came up with 3-point shots and layups late in the game that kept St. Anthony in it. On the defensive end he was able to slow down the guy he was guarding.

The score went back and forth late in the game.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 1:29 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 59, St. Anthony 58.

As the clock continued to click down both teams continued to pressure each other.

St. Anthony called a timeout with 51.6 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 59, St. Anthony 58.

St. Anthony went to a full-court man-to-man pressing trap as they wanted to make it hard for Holy Angels to bring the ball down the floor.

St. Anthony called a timeout with 7.9 seconds left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 59, St. Anthony 58.

Katchman stepped up and knocked down a mid-range jump shot with 2.6 left to go. Holy Angels called a timeout.

Holy Angels advanced the ball and called a timeout with 1.9 seconds left in regulation. The score was St. Anthony 60, Holy Angels 59.

Holy Angels threw the ball out of bounds turning it over to St. Anthony as time ran out.

In a hard-fought game, St. Anthony came away with the 60-59 victory over Holy Angels.

The leading scorers for St. Anthony were Kachman with 16 and Hauser with 15.

The leading scorers for Holy Angels were Holter with 16 and Johnson with 15.

FRIDLEY WENT UP AGAINST ACADEMY OF HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 4, Fridley and the Academy of Holy Angels went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game Fridley had a record of 9-8 while Holy Angels was 12-6. 

Fridley won the tip. Holy Angels started in a zone defense. Fridley looked to pressure the ball full court. Fridley started the game in a zone defense. Holy Angels passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to get everyone involved in the offense early. 

Holy Angels looked to get the ball inside to Bryce Boyd. Boyd looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups. They were also able to get steals on the defensive end and turn them into layups on the offensive end. Holy Angels Matt Banovetz came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Fridley called a timeout with 14:29 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 14, Fridley 3. 

Out of the timeout, Fridley looked to pick up the energy on both ends of the floor. Fridley’s Christian Crockett came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He was able to get past the Holy Angels defense. 

Holy Angels Emmett Johnson was all over the floor. On the offensive end, he looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. On the defensive end, he was able to slow the guy down that he was guarding. 

Both teams went after rebounds on both ends of the floor. Neither team gave up an uncontested shot on either end of the floor. 

Fridley’s Isaac Burns came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. Fridley did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They talked well to each other and knew where everyone was. They just struggled shooting the ball. 

Fridley called a timeout with 9:55 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 27, Fridley 11.

Holy Angels did a good job of coming off screens and getting to the basket. 

Holy Angels Emmett Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He kept his team in the game. Teammate Connor O’Rourke came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

Holy Angels came up with layups in transition. They were able to slow down Fridley on the offensive end. 

Holy Angels was able to get to the basket and come up with shots throughout the first half. Boyd and Johnson both attacked the basket and found a way to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. Nate Kasti came up with 3-point baskets in the first half for Holy Angels as well. 

Banovetz kept on coming up with layups and mid-range jump shots late in the game. 

Fridley struggled to shoot the ball throughout the first half. Even though that they struggled shooting the ball they kept on shooting it throughout the first half. 

At halftime the score was Holy Angels 49, Fridley 23.  

As the second half got underway Fridley continued to move the ball down the floor and looked to score layups in transition. 

Holy Angels came out again in their zone defense. Fridley struggled throughout the game in the zone defense. They were not able to come up with shots against the zone.

Both teams played on as it was early in the second half.

Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. Holy Angels did a good job of getting everyone involved offensively. 

Fridley’s Micha Niewald came up with 3-point shots and mid-range jump shots and layups late in the second half. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 13:00 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 61, Fridley 
38.

Fridley’s Terell Davis looked to get his jump shot and mid-range jump shot to drop in the second half. 

Davis wasn’t afraid to pass it off to one of his teammates if he didn’t think that he had a good look at the basket. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 10:01 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 66, Fridley 43.

Holy Angels Joe Oberst came up with shots in the second half. Teammates Banovetz and Johnson continued to come up with shots as well. 

Crockett came up with 3-point shots in the second half. He wasn’t afraid to shoot the ball if he thought that he had an open look at the basket. 

Both teams continued to dive on the floor after loose balls and rebounds. 

Fridley struggled shooting the ball throughout the game. Even though Fridley couldn’t make shots that they put up they didn’t back down from Holy Angels. Both teams fought hard throughout the game. 

Holy Angels came away with the 83-66 victory over Fridley. 

The leading scorers for Fridley were Ruei with 18 points, Burnes with 11 points, and Stevenson with 10 points. 

The leading scorers for Holy Angels were Banovetz with 26 points, and Johnson with 2 points.

MINNEAPOLIS DELASALLE WENT UP AGAINST THE ACADEMY OF HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 31, Minneapolis DeLaSalle and Academy of Holy Angels in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game DeLaSalle had a record of 12-2 while Holy Angels had a record of 11-5. 

DeLaSalle started the game in a man-to-man defense They wanted to pressure Holy Angels in taking deep shots.

It took each team a while to get into an offensive shooting rhythm. 

Holy Angels took time off the clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line. Holy Angels Matt Banovetz came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Holy Angels Emmett Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes early. 

Holy Angels Nate Kesti came up with shots. He found his shot early in the half. He also knew where his teammates were on the floor and got them the ball in spots where they could shoot it. 

DeLaSalle’s Ami Everett came off the bench and looked to provide an offensive spark. 

Holy Angels looked to get steals on defense and turn them into layups on the offensive end. 

DeLaSalle’s Keijuan White stepped up and knocked down mid-range jump shots and layups. He was able to come off screens and get to the basket. 

Holy Angels Terrence Roberts used his quickness to get past the DeLaSalle defense. On the defensive end, Roberts was able to slow the guy down that he was guarding. 

Holy Angels Banovetz and Johnson both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups 

Cade Haskins was called for a technical foul with 8:12 left in the first half. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 8:12 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 21, DeLaSalle 16. 

Holy Angels passed the ball around the 3-point line and looked to get everyone involved in the offense. Holy Angels did a good job of passing the ball around the 3-point line and taking shots that they thought that they could make.

Holy Angels Johnson came up with steals and was able to make layups on the offensive end. 

DeLaSalle called a timeout with 3:16 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 27, DeLaSalle 19. 

DeLaSalle passed the ball around the 3-point line getting into their offense. 

Holy Angels went to zone defense as DeLaSalle passed the ball around the 3-point line. 

Matt Benovetz scored his 1000 point on a jump shot with 1:27 left in the first half. 

DeLaSalle attacked the basket late in the first half. 

At halftime, the score was Holy Angels 32, DeLaSalle 24. 

As the second half got underway DeLaSalle continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition. 

DeLaSalle’s Semaj Hart came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates knew where he was on the floor and got him the ball where he could shoot it.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 13:33 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 38, DeLaSalle 34. 

Holy Angels was able to make layups in transition. Banovetz came up with shots in the second half. 

The DeLaSalle offense got clicking with just under 12:00 left in regulation. They were able to make  shots in traffic. 

DeLaSalle passed the ball around the 3-point line and got everyone involved in the offense. They looked to take a lot of time off the clock on the offensive end. 

DeLaSalle was able to make fast-break layups in transition. DeLaSallle’s Haskins stepped up and knocked down deep 3-point shots. 

DeLaSalle went to a motion offense they passed and cut and looked to confuse the Holy Angels defense. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 6:49 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 44, Holy Angels 41.

There were multiple ties and lead changes late in the game. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 6:17 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 44, Holy Angels 41. 

DeLaSalle passed the ball around the 3-point line late to take time off the clock and get into their offense. Holy Angels went to a zone defense that made hole in the defense. 

Banovetz kept Holy Angels in the game by stepping up and making shots down the stretch. Teammate Terrence Roberts also came up with layups in traffic late in the game. 

The game came down to the wire. Both teams played well throughout the game. Neither team gave up an easy shot. 

DeLaSalle called a timeout with 51.3 seconds left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 55, Holy Angels 51.

Banovetz came up with a steal and then came up with the deep 3-point shot. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 28.5 seconds left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 56, Holy Angels 54. 

Holy Angels Johnson came up with a layup that tied the game. 

DeLaSalle called a timeout with 1.6 seconds left in regulation. The score was tied at 56.

DeLaSalle’s Haskins came up with a deep 3-point shot at the buzzer for the win. 

DeLaSalle came away with the 59-56 victory over Holy Angels. 

The leading scorers for DeLaSalle were Haskins with 20 points, Travis with 12 points, and White with 9 points. 

The leading scorers for Holy Angels were Banovetz with 26 points, Johnson with 14 points and Kesti with 8 points.

HOLY FAMILY WENT UP AGAINST HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 17, Holy Family and Holy Angels went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. 

Holy Angels started the game in a zone defense. That made Holy Family pass the ball around the 3-point line. Holy Family also started the game in a zone defense. 

It took both teams a while to get into a shooting rhythm as neither team hit shots that they put up early. 

Holy Family got everyone involved in the offense They were not afraid to shoot the deep 3-point shot. Holy Family’s Nick Hendler, Jake Kirsch and Seth Thompson all came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. Holy Family knew where everyone was on the floor as they did a good job of communicating with each other on both ends of the floor. 

Holy Angels started out slow they were not able to find their shots early. Even though they struggled shooting the ball, they kept on looking for their shots. 

Holy Family took a lot of time off the clock as they passed the ball around the 3-point line and got everyone involved in the offense. 

Holy Family ran a motion offense as they did a lot of passing and cutting without the ball. Everyone touched the ball when Holy Family was on offense. 

Holy Angels wasn’t afraid to shoot 3-point shots. They rebounded the ball well. After a slow start by Holy Angels in the first half, they found their shooting rhythm with just under 7:00 left in the first half. That didn’t seem to faze Holy Family at all as they kept the defensive pressure on Holy Angels. 

Hendler kept on coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. The defensive pressure that Holy Angels applied didn’t seem to bother Hendler at all. 

Holy Angels’ Emmett Johnson took mid-range jump shots and layups. He was able to come off screens and took the ball hard to the basket through traffic. 

Holy Family’s Cavin Lund knocked down 3-point shots that kept Holy Family in the game. If Lund didn’t think that he had an open look at a shot, he would pass it to one of his teammates. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 3:19 left in the first half. The score was Holy Family 26, Holy Angels 16. 

Holy Angels looked to push the ball down the floor and score layups in transition. After a slow start, the Holy Angels offense started to make their shots. That didn’t slow down Holy Family from looking for their shots and making them. 

Holy Angels went to a match-up zone late in the first half. They wanted to make it hard for Holy Family to make shots. 

At halftime, the score was tied at 31.

As the second half got underway both teams continued to attack the basket. 

Holy Angels’ Matt Banovetz came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Holy Family called a timeout with 16:11 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 38, Holy Family 34. 

Holy Family passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to take time off the clock.

Holy Angles played mostly a 2-3 zone the whole game. Holy Family also played a 2-3 zone on the defensive end. 

In the second half Holy Family relied heavily on the 3-point shot. The zone defense didn’t give Holy Family any problem. They kept on passing the ball around the 3-point line and shooing it.

Banovetz, Johnson and Boyd all came up with shots for Holy Angels in the second half. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the second half. Neither team went on a significant run in the second half.

Holy Family kept attacking the basket and coming up with baskets late in the game. 

Holy Angels kept on coming up with shots late in the game they kept on chipping away at the deficit.

After the timeout, both teams raced down the floor and made layups.

Holy Angels Bryce Boyd came up with steals and layups late in the game. 

In a hard-fought game, Holy Angels came way away with the 72-67 victory over Holy Family. 

The leading scorers for Holy Family were Thompson with 13 points, Stoffel with 13 points and Hendler with 12 points. 

The leading scorers for Holy Angels were Banovetz with 21 points, Johnson with 18 points and Boyd with 16 points. 

HOLY FAMILY WENT UP AGAINST HOLY ANGELS IN A JR VARSITY BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 17, Holy Family and Holy Angels squared off in a junior varsity boys’ basketball game. The Holy Family JV coach was Sean Kruger. The Holy Angels coach was Terrel Barnes.

Holy Family moved the ball down the floor and looked to get past the Holy Angels defense. Holy Family started the game off in a zone defense. They made Holy Angels swing the ball around the 3-point line as they got everyone involved in the offense.

Holy Angels’ Jeffery Robinson II came up with mid-range jump shots and 3-point baskets. His teammates knew where he was always on the floor and was able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. Holy Angels did a good job of getting everyone involved
 in the offense.

Holy Family looked to score baskets in transition. They looked to intercept passes and create turnovers.

Holy Angels Joe Miller stepped up and knocked down 3-point baskets. If Miller didn’t think that he didn’t

With 9:45 left in the first half Holy Angels called a timeout. The score was Holy Angels 16, Holy Family 14.

Holy Family kept on pushing the ball down the floor and looking for their shots. They did a good job of communicating on both ends of the floor.

Holy Family called a timeout with 8:32 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 19, Holy Family 17.

Holy Angels went to a zone defense and that made Holy Family pass the ball around the 3-point line to get an open look at the basket.

There were multiple ties and lead changes late in the first half. Neither team went on a huge run throughout the first half.

Miller kept on making shots in the first half. He came off screens well and was able to get to the basket. He was able to slow down the guy he was guarding on the defensive end.

Holy Angels Favin Pierce came up with 3-point shots and layups. He was also able to push the ball down the floor and score layups in transition.

Holy Family looked for the quick 3-point shot, and they took it as everyone crashed the boards on both ends of the floor. 

Holy Angels Gavin Pierce came up with 3-point shots and layups in the first half. He was able to curl to the basket off picks and make shots.

At halftime, the score was Holy Family 32, Holy Angels 29.

As the second half got underway Holy Angels continued to get the ball into the hands of Pierce.

Holy Family called timeout with 14:41 left in regulation. The score was Holy Family 36, Holy Angels 32.

Holy Family’s Jacob Warmke came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the game. He was able to come off screens and make shots. 

Holy Family continued to get everyone involved in the offense and kept the ball moving down the floor on the offensive end.

Warmke kept on coming up with deep 3-point shots in the second half. The defense had a hard time slowing him down on offense.

Pierce kept on coming up with 3-point shots in the second half. With his shooting that kept Holy Angels in the game. Holy Angels did a good job of feeding Pierce as he was coming off screens and flashing to the basket. Pierce also came up with key rebounds.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 6:51 left in regulation. The score was Holy Family 47, Holy Angels 41.

Holy Family continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.

Holy Family called a timeout with 3:55 left in regulation. The score was Holy Family 51, Holy Angels 43.

Warmka kept on coming up with baskets late in the game. Holy Angels didn’t back down, they battled throughout the game. Holy Angels passed the ball well and looked for their shots throughout the whole game. Holy Angels put up a battle throughout the game, however.

Holy Family came away with the 59-46 victory over Holy Angels.

The leading scorer for Holy Angels was Pierce with 24 points.

The leading scorers for Holy Family were Warmka with 13 points and Ward with 10 points.

HOLY ANGELS WENT UP AGAINST CRISTO REY JESUIT HIGH SCHOOL IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 12, Holy Angels and Cristo Rey Jesuit high schools went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game.

It took a while for both teams to get into an offensive shooting rhythm.

Cristo Rey pushed the ball down the floor as they looked to control the tempo early. Cristo Rey’s James Sommer came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Holy Angels struggled to shoot the early. Even though they struggled shooting the ball they kept attacking the basket.

Cristo Rey pushed the ball down the floor and was able to get everyone involved in the offense.

Cristo Rey called a timeout with 11:26 left in the first half. The score was Cristo Rey 14, Holy Angels 7.

Holy Angels attacked the basket and looked for their shot to drop in the first half. Holy Angels went to a full court press as they wanted to create confusion on the defensive end.

Holy Angels Emmett Johnson was all over the floor. On the offensive end Johnson was able to make mid-range jump shots and layups.

Holy Angels Bryce Boyd came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.  On the defensive end of the floor he was able to guard the guy that he was guarding and made him take long shots.

Holy Angels stepped up and knocked down three-point shots. They also rebounded the ball and took it strong to the basket.

At halftime the score was Cristo Rey 37, Holy Angels 27.

As the second half got underway Cristo Rey continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Cristo Rey’s James Sommer, Derek Burgess, Eric Burgess and Jumari Funches all came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. The defense had a hard time slowing them down.

Holy Angels kept on attacking the basket throughout the second half. They passed the ball around the 3-point line and got the ball into the hands of Matt Banovetz, Bruce Boyd, and Emmett Johnson. Banvetz, Boyd and Johnson call came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Cristo Rey continued to pass the ball around the three-point line and looked to get the ball inside and take layups.

Holy Angels started out slow, but they were able to chip away at the deficit throughout the game.

Cristo Rey called a timeout with 7:55 left in regulation. The score was Cristo Rey 56, Holy Angels 50.

The Cristo Rey offense went cold after the timeout. Holy Angels kept attacking the basket and came up with their shots.

The score went back and forth late in the game. Neither team gave up and uncontested shot.

Holy Angels took the lead with just under 5:00 left in regulation.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 3:31 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 63, Cristo Rey 58.

There were multiple ties and lead changes late in the game.

Cristo Rey called a timeout with 2:01 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 67, Cristo Rey 60.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. Holy Angels got the lead late in the game. The Cristo Rey offense slowed down late in the game as well. Cristo Rey was not able to make shots down the stretch.

Holy Angels came away with the 69-60 victory over Cristo Rey.

The leading scorers for Holy Angels were Matt Banovetz with 22 points, Emmet Johnson with 15 points and Bryce Boyd with 11 points.
