SUTHERLAND RAIDERS TOOK ON MILLER TIME IN THE HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE

On Aug. 1 the crowd at the High Performance Center was big as basketball fans flocked to watch the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League basketball game. The Sutherland Raiders took on Miller Time.
 
Both teams came out and played with a lot of passion, energy and emotion. Sutherland got out to a quick start as they got out to an 11-5 start in the first four minutes of the game.
 
Rodney Williams of Miller Time came up with some nice jump shots and tip-in rebounds on the offensive end. Williams came up with some amazing slam dunks.
 
Miller Time attacked the glass and was able to get to the basket and was able to come up with some good shots.  
 
After one quarter of play the score was Sutherland Raiders 29, Miller Time 23.
 
Paris Kyles came up with some nice plays for Sutherland Raiders. He lead the charge on the offensive end for his team as he pushed the ball down the floor and was able to get the ball to his teammates in spots where they could shoot the ball.
 
Sutherland came out on fire in the second quarter, as they were able to take a 10 point lead with 7:20 left in the second quarter.
 
Miller Time didn’t give up however as they kept attacking the basket looking for their shot.
 
Royce White of Miller Time called for the ball on the low block. He was able to get to the free throw line and make his free throws.
 
The Raiders went on a run and had a 53-36 lead with 4:04 left in the second quarter.
 
Trevor Mbakwe came up with some big slam dunks in the first half. His teammates did a good job of knowing where he was on the floor as he called for the ball when he was close to the basket.
 
Kyles continued to come up with some good plays late in the second quarter.
 
The score at halftime was Sutherland Raiders 66, Miller Time 49.
 
The third quarter got off to a flying start as White found Williams for many alley-oop slam dunks  as the crowd went wild. Those two had good communication.
 
Miller Time kept attacking the basket and was successful shooting the ball as they looked to cut the deficit.
 
DeAndre Townsend kept on hitting shots as he flew to the floor as the defenders were trying to block his shot.
 
White was able to hit shots from both inside and outside the three-point line.
 
At the end of the third quarter the score was Sutherland Raiders 93, Miller Time 83.
 
As the fourth quarter got underway the intensity shot up about four notches as both teams kept their composer as the energy was still alive in the building.
 
Sutherland Raiders continued to hit shots with ease in the fourth quarter.
 
White got his second technical foul with just over a minute of play left and he was ejected from the game.
 
Sutherland Raiders came away with the 123-112 victory over Miller Time.
 
The leading scorers for Sutherland Raiders were Damien Johnson with 19 points, DeAndre Townsend 18 and Wil Grahm 24.
 
The leading scorers for Miller Time Quinton Hooker with 12 points, Syiani Chambers 15, Kenny Olasfeo with 16 points, Rodney Williams with 26 points.
 
The game was a good game throughout. Both teams had a good time and played hard throughout the contest.
 
With that victory the Sutherland Raiders are the 2013 Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League champions.

MILLER TIME TOOK ON ERROL CARLSTROM PLAYAZ IN THE HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE

It was playoff time at the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League on July 29. In the first game Miller Time went up against Errol Carlstrom Playaz.
 
The game got off to a quick start as each team raced up and down the floor trading baskets. The Playaz were able to string some quick baskets together in the first quarter.
 
The Playaz did a good job of getting the ball out of the rim and making baskets in transition.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the first quarter. Neither team went on a run. The defensive pressure that was applied was good as neither team was able to make easy baskets.
 
Royce White for Miller Time was all over the floor. He was able to call for the ball in the low post and when he got the ball he was able to make a drop step lay-up with ease.
 
Quinton Hooker for Miller Time did a good job of getting to the basket and was able to hit shots that he put up. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where they know that he could hit shots.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the second quarter. Neither team went on a run in the first half.
 
If White thought that he had a good shot he was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor.
 
Both teams were able to get fast break baskets throughout the first half.
 
Miller Time did a good job of using the clock to their advantage. They looked to shoot the ball with less than 10 seconds left to go.
 
Both teams were aggressive and they battled hard. Tempers flared a little bit in the second quarter as teams got testy with each other.
 
It was a very physical. Both teams went hard to the basket and were not afraid shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor.
 
At halftime the score was Miller Time 44, Errol Carlstrom Playaz 41.
 
The score continued to go back and forth throughout the third quarter. Neither team rushed their shots.
 
Miller Time came up with some nice baskets in the quarter. They were patient on the offensive end and waited will they had a good shot to shoot.
 
The score remained close throughout the third quarter as each team continued to pound the ball to the basket.
 
The score after three quarters of play was Miller Time 65, Errol Carlstrom Playaz 53.
 
As the third quarter rolled around Miller Time continued to get open looks at the baskets. They were able to finish plays around the hoop.
 
Errol Carlstrom Playaz was not able to climb out of the hole on the offensive end. Miller Time was a little quicker than the Errol Carlstrom Playaz.
 
In a hard fought game Miller Time came away with the 87-66 victory over Errol Carlstrom Playaz.

HPA AND MILLER TIME SQUARED OFF IN THE HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE BASKETBALL GAME

On July 20 in the final game of the day, HPA and Miller Time squared off in a basketball game in the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League. This game got started on time, unlike the previous two. University of Minnesota Head coach Richard Pitino was in the building to watch the game.
 
The game got off to a quick start both teams raced up and down the floor as they were able to make layups.
 
After the first quarter of play the score was Miller Time 20, HPA 15.
 
HPA looked to set the tempo of the game on the offensive end.
 
For Miller Time Siyani Chambers, Quinton Hooker, and Joey King all shot the ball well. They were able to hit shots that they took.
 
HPA did a good job of swinging the ball around the three-point line. They were able to take a lot of time off the clock on the offensive end. Bjorn Broman was all over the floor. He was able to shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor.

Jarvis Johnson -- also for HPA -- took the ball hard to the basket consistently.  Johnson was also able to get to the basket and make easy shots.
 
Miller Time was all over the boards. They were able to come down with some big rebounds and turn them into points.
 
At halftime the score was Miller Time 51, HPA 38.
 
As the third quarter got underway HPA tried to get quick shots as they didn’t want to take a lot of time off of the shot clock.
 
Joey King for Miller Time was on fire. He was able to hit shots from everywhere on the floor.
 
Chambers did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.
 
Chambers and Quinton Hooker for Miller Time had good communication on the floor. They were able to connect with each other as they looked for each other on the offensive end for assists.
 
After three quarters of play the score was Miller Time 82, HPA 67.
 
White was able to get good clean looks at the basket. He was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor.
 
The score got out of hand midway through the fourth quarter. HPA really struggled to shoot the ball.
 
HPA made some quick jump shots late in the contest. But they were not able to come away with the victory.
 
Miller Time came away with the 112-95 victory over HPA.  
 
The leading scorers for HPA were Jarvis Johnson with 16 points, Scar Amin with 21 points and Isaiah McKay with 26 points.
 
The leading scorers for Miller Time were Siyani Chambers with 14, Quinton Hooker with 20 and Joey King with 40 points.

MILLER TIME TOOK ON SUTHERLAND RAIDERS IN THE HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE GAME

In the second game of the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League on Thursday July 18, Miller Time took on Sutherland Raiders.
 
Quinton Hooker for Miller Time was able to get the ball down the floor with ease. He was able to get by his defender and get to the basket and make easy layups. Hooker is a vocal leader on the floor.
 
Miller Time looked to get the ball into Royce White’s hands. White took the ball hard to the basket and was able to get fouled and White was also able to make his free throws.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the first quarter. Neither team was able to go on a run.
 
Paris Kyles for the Sutherland Raiders was able to bring the ball down the floor and get the ball into the hands of his teammates. Kyles had good court vision and he knew where his players were on the floor at all times.
 
Neither team went on a run in the first quarter. Both teams took a lot of time off of the shot clock.
 
AJ Wilson for Sutherland Raiders came up with some nice baskets. He was able to get his shot to drop late in the quarter.
 
After the first quarter the score was Sutherland Raiders 30, Miller Time 24.
 
Wally Ellenson for Miller Time was all over the floor. He came up with some nice shots for his team.
 
Miller Time didn’t back down to the Sutherland Raiders. Miller Time still continued to push the ball down the floor and was able to get good looks at the basket.
 
Damian Johnson came into the game for Sutherland Raiders. Johnson was able to set his teammates up on the offensive end and was able to get assists.
 
Ellenson was able to drop some big three-point shots for his team. It didn’t matter when Ellenson was on the floor if he thought that he had a good shot he was not afraid to shoot it.
 
Both teams took good shots at the basket. Neither team gave up on either ends of the floor.
 
Siyani Chambers was all over the floor. He was able to get to the basket and make layups. If Chambers thought that his teammate had a better shot he wouldn’t be afraid to pass the ball to him for the assist.
 
The score at halftime was Sutherland Raiders 57, Miller Time 43.
 
The third quarter got off to a quick start as each team raced up and down the floor looking for their best shots.
 
Miller Time kept on shooting the ball, even though they had a hard time shooting the ball.
 
White played well. He was very active on the floor. He was camped out on the low block and was able to get past his defenders.
 
Miller Time was able to string some baskets together with under 3:00 left in the third quarter.
 
Miller Time kept on attacking the glass. They had success at that as they were able to make layups late in the third quarter.
 
Oto Osenieks for Sutherland Raiders came up with some nice baskets late in the third quarter.
 
The score after three quarters of play was Sutherland Raiders 77, Miller Time 73.
 
Hooker came up with some clutch shots in the contest. He played with a lot of emotion and intensity.
 
The score went back and forth for a good portion of the fourth quarter. Neither team was able to go on a run.
 
It was a very good game.
 
Sutherland Raiders came away with the hard fought 110-98 victory over Miller Time.
 
The leading scorers for Sutherland Raiders were Will Graham with 24 points, AJ Wilson with 22 points, and Oto Osenieks with 16 points.
 
The leading scorers for Miller Time were Royce White with 28 points, Peter Olafeso with 25 points and Kenny Olafeso with 25 points.
 

PAT MADISON TOOK ON MILLER TIME IN THE HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE

In the second game of the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League on Monday July 15, Pat Madison took on Miller Time. It took awhile for each team to get into a shooting rhythm.
 
Troy Bell for Pat Madison did a good job of handling the ball. He was able to get his teammates involved in the offense and told them where he wanted them to go on the floor. If Bell thought that he had a good shot he was not afraid to shoot the ball. If Bell thought that his teammate had a better shot he would pass the ball to him for the better shot.
 
Royce White who played with Miller Time. White has played with a few college and pro basketball teams and has drawn national attention because of his skill.
 
Quinton Hooker for Miller Time brought the ball down the floor for his team. He had good court awareness and knew where his teammates were supposed to be on the floor. Hooker did a good job of directing traffic when he was on the floor.
 
Terry Campbell took the ball hard to the basket on offense. He was not afraid to shoot the ball if he thought that he had a good shot.
 
Pete Olafeso for Miller Time took good shots. He knew that he was most successful shooting the ball from within the three-point line.
 
Wally Ellenson -- who plays for the University of Minnesota -- sank a three-point shot for Miller Time to tie the game at 28 at the buzzer at the end of the first quarter.
 
The score continued to go back and forth throughout the second quarter. Neither team went on a run early in the second quarter.
 
Hooker found teammate Siyani Chambers as Chambers was able to find the bottom of the net as Chambers was able to knock down some big shots.
 
The score went back and forth for a good portion of the second quarter. Neither team was able to go on a run in the second quarter.
 
At halftime the score was Miller Time 62, Pat Madison 60.
 
As the third quarter got underway both teams stepped up the defensive pressure. It was a lot harder for each team to get shots off in the third quarter because the pressure that both teams were applying.
 
Miller Time looked to get the ball into the hands of White, who was all over the floor. He was able to score on jump shots from anywhere on the floor.
 
Bell was able to slow down his defender and get steals. Bell also did a good job of getting his man open and the ball if they thought that he could score the layups in transition.
 
White impressed the crowd who stuck around to watch him play. He made some nice layups throughout the third quarter. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could make easy shots.
 
Miller Time continued to make shots late in the third quarter.
 
After three quarters of play the score was Miller Time 90, Pat Madison 84.
 
Miller Time continued to push the ball down the floor as they kept on making baskets in transition.
 
Chambers and Hooker kept on hooking up on the floor as they were able to come up with some nice passes to each other in the fourth quarter.
 
Hooker was not afraid to shoot the outside shot to keep his team in the contest.
 
Pat Madison hung in till the end. In a very fun and entertaining game Miller Time came away with the 130-101 victory over Pat Madison.
 
The leading scorers for Pat Madison were Jefferson Mason with 31 points, Troy Bell with 23 points and Terry Campbell with 28 points.
 
The leading scorers for Miller Time were Peter Olafeso with 25 points, Royce White with 24 points, Wally Ellenson with 19 points, Quinton Hooker with 18 points, and Siyani Chambers with 15 points.
 
I thought that this was a very good game from start to finish. Both teams played well.

MILLER TIME TOOK ON ERROL CARLSTROM PLAYAZ IN THE HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE

Miller Time and Errol Carlstrom Playaz squared off in the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League game. The crowd was light and other teams were playing on different courts in the big gym. There was very little atmosphere in the building at all.
 
It took a while for each team to get used to what the other team was doing on the floor.
 
Miller Time got up big with an 11-3 lead with 5:58 left in the first quarter.
 
Errol Carlstrom Playaz had difficulty shooting the ball throughout the first quarter. They didn’t give up however as they kept on shooting shots that they thought they could make.
 
Siyani Chambers was all over the floor for Miller Time. He knew where his teammates were on the floor and he was able to get them the ball in spots where they could get good looks at the basket.
 
At the end of the first quarter Miller Time led 25-18.  
 
Both teams continued to take time off the clock by swinging the ball around the three-point line.
 
Errol Carlstrom Playaz attacked the basket as they were able to look for shots. They were not afraid to shoot the ball at any point in the game. If the guards thought that they had good shots they were not afraid to shoot it.
 
Chambers ran the Miller Time offense. He was able to instruct to his players where they were supposed to be on the floor and was able to get his team’s offense going.
 
Errol Carlstrom Playaz went on a run late in the second quarter. They were to get within three with 2:30 left in the second quarter.
 
Marcus Alipate was a force on defense for Errol Carlstrom Playaz. He was able to control his guy on the offensive end and slow him down and made it tough for him to make shots.
 
At halftime Miller Time led 52-50.
 
Both teams continued to push the ball down the floor.
 
Teddy Archer got ejected from the game after he protested a call and slammed the ball to the floor.
 
The score remained close throughout the third quarter, as neither team went on a run..
 
At the end of three quarters, Errol Calrstrom Playaz had taken a 78-74 lead.
 
The fourth quarter was fast and furious. Both teams continued race up and down the floor looking for jump shots.
 
Errol Carlstrom Playaz stepped up big and were able to come out and hit consecutive shots to open up the fourth quarter. Miller Time tried to keep up but they were not able to hit shots for a period of time in the fourth quarter.
 
Quinton Hooker for Miller Time stepped up big and was able to knock down some deep three-point shots for his team.
 
Both teams played extremely tough on the defensive end. Neither team gave up easy baskets on either end of the floor.
 
Errol Carlstrom Playaz were able to come away with the 111-95 victory over Miller Time.
 
The leading scorers for Miller Time were Peter Olafeso with 27 points, Hooker with 23 points and Kenny Olafeso with 22 points.
 
The leading scorers for Errol Carlstrom Playaz were Alipate with 19, Joe Scott with 18, Cameron Rundles 18, and Tyler Cain with 16 points.

MILLER TIME TOOK ON INFORMATION INVESTORS GROUP IN THE HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE BASKETBALL GAME

The High Performance Academy in Eagan, home of the Howard Pulley Panthers and the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League, was abuzz as Miller Time and Information Investors Group faced off in a summer league game.
 
Both teams came out looking to push the ball down the floor. It took awhile for the players to get used to each other, as this was the first week that teams played with each other.
 
The play was sloppy at the onset, as each team turned the ball over a few times on consecutive trips down the floor.
 
Siyani Chambers for Miller Time did a good job of bringing the ball down the floor on the offensive end. He was able to move the ball down the court quickly and get his teammates the ball in spots where they could take easy shots. They were not able to make a basket for a long period of time in the first quarter, however. On the defensive end, Chambers was able to slow down the guy he was guarding and make him give up the ball while not letting him get a shot up.
 
Miller Time did, however, looked to push the ball down the floor and was able to look for layups in transition.
 
Information Investors looked to be clicking on all cylinders in the first quarter. They were able to hit shots that they put up and they were able to work the 24 second shot clock and looked to get good shots.
 
Charles Buggs played well for Information Investors. He was able to run the floor and had good court vision. He was not afraid to take the ball to the basket if he thought that he had an open shot. If he didn’t think that he had a good shot he was not afraid to pass the ball to one of his teammates so they could get an open look at the basket.
 
At the end of the first quarter the score was Information Investors 19, Miller Time 11.
 
Both teams used mostly a man-to-man defense and a motion offense. They looked to use as much off the 24 second shot clock as they could.
 
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. There were a few jump balls in the first half.
 
Miller Time did a good job of getting the ball out of the Information Investors basket or a defensive rebound and they looked up push the ball down quickly as they wanted to get fast break baskets. They were able to do that in the first half.
 
Miller Time was not afraid to step outside the three-point line and take deep three-point shots.
 
Chambers came up with some nice deep threes to keep his team in the game.
 
Miller Time was able to slow down the Information Investors’ offense production for a period of time in the second quarter. Miller Time came up with some big shots to stay in the game.
 
There were several ties and lead changes late in the second quarter. Miller Time caught up to Information Investors but Miller Time never gained the lead in the second quarter.
 
The score after a sloppy first half was Information Investors 43, Miller Time 36.
 
As the third quarter got underway both teams seemed like they were in control. They both played with a lot of intensity and firepower.
 
The score continued to go back and forth throughout the third quarter. Neither team was able to go on a run.
 
Both teams tried to get fancy in the third quarter by throwing lob dunks to each other and looking for layups in the open court.
 
Miller Time took the lead late in the third quarter, as Information Investors went cold for a stretch.
 
Wally Ellenson was all over the floor for Miller Time. He was able to shoot an inside jump shot with ease. He was able to make layups. Ellenson was able to get by his defenders on the offensive end and take the ball hard to the basket.
 
At the end of the third quarter the score was Miller Time 67, Information Investors 61.
 
Jordan Taylor for Information Investors was all over the floor. He was able to get steals on the defensive end and go the other way by the defenders and score on layups. Taylor was a little quicker than everyone else on the floor.
 
Information Investors looked to get after it a little more in the fourth quarter by shooting the ball more. Rather than take time off the shot clock they would look to shoot the ball early in the shot clock and if they miss a shot they would look for the tip-in dunk or the rebound.
 
Information Investors didn’t back down in the fourth. They kept looking for shots that they could get.
They did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.
 
Miller Time attacked the basket late in the contest and was able to hit key shots late in the contest. Information Investors battled throughout the contest. Both teams played hard and well throughout the game. The game was tied at 80 with 2:09 left in regulation.
 
Both teams traded baskets again and it the end Information Investors came away with the 84-83 victory over Miller Time.
