MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST TOOK ON CROSSTOWN RIVAL MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH IN GIRLS BASKETBALL

Southwest traveled to Minneapolis South for a girls’ basketball contest.

South is younger than years past, but they are still a strong team. They were 10-5 coming into the game.

Southwest had an 8-8 record coming into the game. South was able to jump out and take a quick lead.

Southwest looked to attack the basket.

South wanted to push the ball up the court and they wanted to run the fast break as much as they could.

Southwest wanted to slow South down and did not want them to get them into a shooting rhythm.

South went on a run midway through the first half. At half time the score was South 40 and Southwest 21.

Senior Guard Armeshia Kearney led the South Tigers with 19 points. Her backcourt mate Tyisha Smith added 10 points as well. Sophomore Guard Mariah Adanene led the Lakers with 20 points and 14 rebounds.
South was able to come away with the 73-45 victory.

MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST GIRLS ROLL OVER MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN IN A GIRLS’ BASKETBALL CONTEST

This is from Minneapolis Southwest head coach Rob Grace. The Minneapolis Southwest Lakers used a halftime lead of 48-14 and never looked back as they were able to beat Washburn 71-33.

Southwest was led by Sophomore Guard Mariah Adanene with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Junior Post Micah Thornquist added 12 points and 7 rebounds and senior post Grace Theisen chipped in 11 points and 8 rebounds.

Washburn was led by Junior guard Shanice Sullivan's 9 points. There is a four way first place tie for the Minneapolis Conference with South, Roosevelt, North and Southwest, all with 3-1 records. The Lakers play at Roosevelt on Friday.

THE MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST LAKER GIRLS’ BASKETBALL TEAM GETS UPENDED BY ARMSTRONG

The Minneapolis Southwest Lakers took a 24-20 halftime lead, but the Robbinsdale Armstrong Falcons led by Seniors Alyssa Marschner's 19 points and Ali Hoefer's 18 points, gave the Falcons (7-4) the win at home. Minneapolis Southwest (6-4) was led by Sophomore Guard Mariah Adanene with 18 points, 11 rebounds and 4 steals.

The final score was Armstrong 52 and Southwest 49‏.

LET THE TOURNAMENTS BEGIN

It’s March, the regular season is over and now its section tournament time. The first section game that I am covering took me to Minneapolis South for one of the toughest sections I have ever seen for the girl's side of tings. Robinsdale Armstong took on the Minneapolis Southwest Lakers. Armstrong came into the game as a number 3 seed and Southwest came into the game with the number 6 seed.

Minneapolis Southwest Lakers started the game playing strong zone defense. Southwest was able to get good open looks at the basket in the early goings. Both teams looked strong in the early goings.


Southwest looked to push the ball up the up the court. They wanted to penetrate against the Armstrong defense. It was a tight first half midway through the first half. Each team traded baskets in the first half.


Armstrong backed off the press midway through the first half. They started playing defense at the half court line. The first half went up and down neither team game up in the first half. Both teams looked like they were evenly matched.

At half time the score was Armstrong 17 and Minneapolis Southwest 15.

As the second half got underway both teams came out with a lot of intensity. Both of these teams looked to push the ball up the court and go after each other.

Alyssa Marschner for Armstrong played really aggressively. She went after balls and she dove after them.

Both teams battled in the second half. Southwest went on a run mid way through the second half. They battled back into this game in the end. Both teams traded baskets and this game came down to the wire. There was a lot of defense played in the game. Southwest hangs on and wins the final of the of the contest was Minneapolis Southwest 38 and Armstrong 36.

MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH TAKES OUT MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST

The Minneapolis South Tigers took down the Southwest Lakers 64-33. The Tigers took a 4 point lead into halftime—25-21 and never looked back as the #1 Ranked Tigers pulled away in the 2nd Half. They outscored the Lakers 39-12 in the 2nd Half. Taylor Hill finished with 24 points and Armesha Kearney added 15 points. Britta Syverson led the Lakers with 17 pts and 10 rebounds. The Tigers were without Forwards Gabby Roberts and Europe Guy.

HIGHLAND PARK GIRLS FORFEIT GAME AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST

According to officals, St Paul Highland Park announced that had to forfeit the game vs Minneapolis Southwest on 12/18/08.

According to the MSHSL rules, a player is in-eligible to play in the both halves of junior varsity and both halves of varsity play and this was the case in this situation. They are allowed only 3 total halves of play.

The final score of the game on Tuesday was Highland Park 52 Southwest 43.

Highland Park’s Record is now 3-4 and Minneapolis Southwest is 5-1.

BLOOMINGTON JEFFERSON BEATS MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST BY 10

Bloomington Jefferson was too much for Minneapolis Southwest and was able to come in and beat the Lakers 44-34. In a fast paced game that was close throughout, the Jaguars were able to come away with the win.

Jefferson was led by Alex Koller and Lauren Somers with 9 points each. Minneapolis Southwest’s leading scorer was Britta Syervrson who finished with 10 points and 7 rebounds.

Bloomington Jefferson is now 3-2 and Minneapolis Southwest is 5-1.

THE MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST LADY LAKERS START OFF BASKETBALL SEASON ON FIRE

The Minneapolis Southwest women’s basketball team under the direction of Rob Grace, are off to a 4-0 start this season. On Friday night they continued their winning streak beating Minneapolis Patrick Henry 76-20.

The Lakers were led by freshman guard Mariah Adanene who scored 23 points and came up with 6 steals and senior Center Britta Syverson, one of the Lakers leaders, who added 16 point and 15 rebounds in a very nice performance.

The Lakers are gearing up for the Apple Valley Holiday tournament, where their first game is against Richfield when we might see how long this streak will last.

MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST BLOWS OUT ST PAUL COMO PARK IN THE FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON

Minneapolis Southwest women blow out St Paul Como Park to open to the 2008 girl's basketball season. Minneapolis Southwest started out the game on a 21-0 run. A lot of players played well for the Minneapolis Southwest Lakers. Mariah Adanene finished the game with 15 points, 6 steals and 4 rebounds. She only played 18 minutes in the game.

Laura Maltby also had a big night for the Lakers. She added 10 points, 4 rebounds and 4 steals. Britta Syverson also stepped up for the Lakers. She added 9 points, 9 rebounds, and also had 4 steals.

We will see how the Laker women fair this year. They are expected to do big things in the Minneapolis City Conference.
