PAT MADISON TOOK ON TONY GEER GAZETTE IN THE HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE

On July 17, Pat Madison and Tony Geer Gazette went up against each other in the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League.

 

The game got off to a quick start as each team traded baskets. Neither team gave up easy shots.

 

Austin Hollins, who plays for the University of Minnesota, was playing for Tony Geer Gazette. Hollins was all over the floor as he was able to get decent looks at the basket.

 

The score went back and forth throughout the first quarter.

 

PJ Hill for Tony Geer Gazette brought the ball down the floor. He was able to get by his defenders and get to the basket.

 

Both teams looked to score easy baskets in transition, and they were able to do that.

 

Maverick Ahanmisi was all over the floor for Tony Geer Gazette. He had good court awareness and was able to make good decisions when he was on the floor.

 

At the end of the first quarter the score was Tony Geer Gazette 29, Pat Madison 27.

 

As the second quarter got underway both teams continued to keep the game close. They traded baskets in the early going of the quarter.

 

Clinton Parker for Pat Madison took the ball hard to the basket. Parker was able to blow by his defender and make layups. On the defensive end Parker was able to create steals and pester the guy that he was guarding.

 

Troy Bell for Pat Madison was able to get to the basket and score baskets at will. He was also able to get rebounds on both ends of the floor.

 

The score went back and forth throughout the second quarter.

 

At halftime the score was tied at 52.

 

As the second half got underway both teams came out with a lot of energy. The score remained close throughout the third quarter.

 

Pat Madison jump out quick and got a six-point lead early in the third quarter, but Tony Geer Gazette fired right back and was able to string some baskets together.

 

Both teams didn’t use a lot of time off of the shot clock in the third quarter. They shot very quick shots. They looked for the rebounds for the put back layups or looked to get the ball on the other end of the floor for a fast break layup.

 

After three quarters of play the score was Pat Madison 77, Tony Geer Gazette 71.

 

Both teams continued to work hard for baskets in the fourth quarter.  There were many loose balls and every worked hard at crashing the boards to get rebounds.

 

The game was competitive throughout. I thought both teams played well throughout the game. In the end however Pat Madison came away with the 102-94 victory over Tony Geer Gazette.

 

The leading scorers for Tony Geer Gazette were Kwadzo Ahelegbe with 24 points, Maverick Ahanmisi with 15 points PJ Hill with 14 points and Jordan Kappen with 11 points.

 

The leading scorers for Pat Madison were Terry Campbell with 24 points, Troy Bell with 18 points, Phil Freeman with 18 points, Jefferson Mason with 15 points and Austin Hollins with 11 points.

 

TONY GEER GAZETTE TOOK ON SUTHERLAND RAIDERS IN A HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE BASKETBALL GAME

On Monday July 15, Tony Geer Gazette went up against the Sutherland Raiders. Both teams had substitute players playing with them in the game. There was music blaring throughout the gym for most of the first half as there was a dance team practice practicing in one of the gyms in the complex.

 

Both teams looked to push the ball down the floor. Sutherland Raiders were able to get a 15-7 lead with 4:00 minutes left in the first quarter.

 

Deshun Patterson of Tony Geer Gazette was all over the floor. On the offensive end he was able to blow by his defenders and get to the basket and was able to make layups. On the defensive end he was able to slow down the guy that he was defending.

 

After one quarter of play the score was Sutherland Raiders 25, Tony Geer Gazette 16.

  

As the second quarter got underway Sutherland Raider continued to attack the basket and were able to make their shots that they put up. Tony Geer Gazette also kept on attacking the basket as they were able to look for layups but were not successful at making them.

 

Both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to make baskets in transition.

 

At halftime the score was Sutherland Raiders 55, Tony Geer Gazette 44.

 

As the third quarter got underway both teams kept up their intensity on both ends of the floor.

 

DeAndre Townsend for Sutherland Raiders kept on attacking the basket and was able to score on easy layups throughout the first three quarters.

 

For Tony Geer Gazette Jordan Keppen and Matt Doust caught fire. They were able to knock down shots for their team.

 

Tony Geer Gazette took a lot of time off of the shot clock.  They didn’t rush their shots they were able to have enough time and get shots off that they wanted to get off before the buzzer went off.

 

Tony Geer Gazette strung some baskets go together as they kept in the game. They caught up as the score went back and forth for a period of time in the third quarter with about 5:00 left to go.

 

Sutherland Raiders took both long three-point shots and shorter two point jump shots. If anyone thought that they had a good shot for Sutherland Raiders they would shoot it.

 

Tony Geer Gazette closed the gap in the third quarter. Sutherland Raiders didn’t give up any easy shots.

 

After three quarters of play the score was Sutherland Raiders 78, Tony Geer Gazette 72.

 

Clinton Parker who played of Tony Geer Gazette took the ball hard to the basket. If he thought that he had a good layup he would drive to the basket and take the ball hard to the cup. If Parker thought that one of his teammates had a better shot he was not afraid to pass the ball to one of his teammates.

 

Both teams looked to push the ball down the floor in the fourth quarter.

 

Tony Geer Gazette tried with everything that they had to take the lead in the fourth quarter. They were not able to do that however.

 

In a very good fun hard fought game Sutherland Raiders came away with the 99-82 victory over Tony Geer Gazette.

 

The leading scorers for Tony Geer Gazette were Jordan Kappen with 21 points and Matt Doust with 17 points.

 

The point leader for Sutherland Raiders was Jeremy Sutherland with 29 points.

 

CLINTON VEE PARKER JR BASKETBALL AND LIFE

Clinton Parker played basketball for Dakota County and Technical College. Paker was born on the
south side of Chicago on May 27 1992. Parker has three older brothers whom he looks up to.

He started his high school basketball at Richfield High School and played for head coach Jim
Dimick. Parker then transferred to Percy L. Julian high school in Chicago, where he graduated from
in 2011.

Parker has played basketball his whole life. It wasn't until he was he was 11 or 12 that he took basketball seriously. His other sport that he loves to play is baseball. Parker considers him self as a big baseball fan.

Parker has big plans for after college. “I want to get involved with law enforcement or be more involved with local kids who are having a hard time growing up and getting into trouble, or having trouble at home, maybe like a juvenile counselor or somewhere down that line,” he said.

Parker added, “I’d love to play on the next level and show many people I can and could play against some tough but skilled guys.”

He also has a son. Parker would like to stay somewhere close to Minnesota or Illinois.

When asked where he was thinking of going to school in the fall of 2013, Parker said, “It's all up in the air right now. I’ve received a handful of offers from colleges -- all out of state -- but I’m trying to stay somewhere close to the Midwest for my son and family purposes.”

Basketball for Parker has been a huge success. When asked about his favorite basketball memories, Parker said: “I would have to say just traveling, going on trips out of state and playing against teams and their crowds. I love the atmosphere like that.”

Parker spends his free time with family.

You can find Parker listening to R&B and Hip Hop music and a little bit of country from time to time.

Parker is a good basketball player and a good guy. I have watched and seen Parker play for Dakota County Technical College. He is a hard worker and a good person on and off the court. Parker will be successful in whatever path he decides to go on.
