NORTHERN STATE WENT UP AGAINST ST. CLOUD STATE IN A FOOTBALL GAME

On Nov. 7 Northern State and St. Cloud State University squared off against each other in a football game. Going into the game Northern State had an overall record of 5-4 and were 5-0 in the NSIC North. St. Cloud State University was 5-4 overall and were 3-2 in the NSIC North.
 
St. Cloud State kicked off to start the game. Northern State took over on their own 22 yard line.
 
Northern State punted on 4th-and-10.
 
St. Cloud State took over on the 50 yard line. St. Cloud State’s Ladell White looked to get the ball into his hands.  White was able to find holes in the Northern State defense.  St. Cloud State used both the running and passing attack early. St. Cloud State was intercepted by Channing Barber.
 
Northern State couldn’t move the ball down the field. They punted on 4th-and-7. St. Cloud State took over on their own 30 yard line.
 
St. Cloud State wasn’t able to move the ball down the field. On 4th-and-4 St. Cloud State punted.
 
Northern State took over on their own 29 yard line. They punted on 4th-and-3.
 
St. Cloud State took over on their own 22 yard line. White came up with a first down rush. St. Cloud State did a good job of switching between running and passing plays. They were able to confuse the Northern State defense. White fumbled the ball and Northern State’s Matt Tompson came up with the ball.
 
Northern State kept the ball on the ground. On 4th-and-11 they punted the ball.
 
St. Cloud State took over on their own 21 yard line. St. Cloud State looked to get the ball in the air.
 
On 4th-and-3 they elected to punt the ball.
 
Northern State took over on their own 40 yard line. Northern State couldn’t complete their passes.
 
They punted on 4th-and-7.
 
The punt hit a St. Cloud State player and Northern State took over on the 26 yard line. Kyle Lavand found Tryell Anderson for a 21 yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 2:12 left in the first quarter the score was Northern State 7, St. Cloud State 0.
 
St. Cloud State found the end zone 1:14 left in the first quarter on a Grant Thayer 42 yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 1:14 left in the first quarter the score was tied at 7.
 
Northern State took over on their own 1 yard line.
 
After one quarter of play the score was tied at 7.
 
Northern State punted on 4th down.
 
St. Cloud State continued to pound the ball down the field. On 4th-and-3 they punted the ball.
 
Northern State moved the ball down the field. Northern State’s Kyle Lavand came up with a huge run for a first down. Northern State found the end zone on a 10 yard reception by Nicolas Truen. The extra point attempt was good. With 10:40 left in the second quarter the score was Northern State 14, St. Cloud State 7.
 
St. Cloud State took over on their own 29 yard line.  They looked to attack the Northern State’s defense. St. Cloud State was intercepted by Alex Bernstein.
 
Northern State looked to get into the end zone. On 4th-and-3 Northern State 20 yard field goal field goal which was good.
 
With 5:59 left in the second quarter the score was Northern State 17, St. Cloud State 7.
 
St. Cloud State took over on their own 28 yard line. White once again got the ball into his hands. He picked up a first down. St. Cloud State moved the ball down the field in short passing routs late in the second quarter. St. Cloud State attempted a 20 yard field attempt which was good.
 
With 48 seconds left in the second quarter the score was Northern State 17, St. Cloud State 10.
 
Northern State took over on their own 25 yard line. Northern State was able to move the ball down the field late in the quarter. Northern State attempt a 52 yard field goal which was short.
 
At halftime the score was Northern State 17, St. Cloud State 10.  
 
Northern State kicked off to start the third quarter. St. Cloud State took over on their own 29 yard line. St. Cloud State’s Bobby Pass came up with a first down reception. Jaden Huff also came up with some huge runs. Jamenson Parsons came up with another first down reception. Meyer ran 10 yard for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 11:37 left in the third quarter. The score was tied at 17.
 
Northern State took over on their own 25 yard line. Northern State went to a hurry up offense as they didn’t take a lot of time off the clock between plays. Northern State fumbled the ball and St. Cloud State’s Andre Elliott recovered it.
 
St. Cloud State moved the ball down the ball down the field as they looked to get into the end zone midway through the third quarter. On 4th-and-5 St. Cloud State went for it. They came up with a first down as Grant Thayer came up with a reception. St. Cloud State’s Kasai Farris came up with a 15 yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 3:50 left in the third quarter the score was St. Cloud State 24, Northern State 17.
 
Northern State took over and looked to move the ball down the field. Northern State stayed in their hurry up offense. On 4th-and-2 Northern State went for it and they came up with a first down.
 
After three quarters of play the score was St. Cloud State 24, Northern State 17.
 
Northern State found the end zone on a 7 yard reception by Connor Doherty. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 11:55 left in the fourth quarter the score was tied at 24.
 
St. Cloud State took over on their own 40 yard line. St. Cloud State moved the ball down the field again. St. Cloud State was intercepted at the 1 yard line by Matt Thorson.
 
Northern State moved the ball down the field through the air. Northern State punted on 4th down.
 
St. Cloud State punted the ball on 4th-and-1.
 
Northern State took over on their own 35 yard line. Truen came up with a first down reception. With 4:18 left in the fourth quarter Taylor Houchin came up with a 40 yard touchdown reception.  The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 4:18 left in the fourth quarter the score was Northern State 31, St. Cloud State 24.
 
St. Cloud State started their drive on their own 30 yard line. They moved the ball down the field in
the air. On 4th-and-5 they went for it. They were not able to come up with a first down and turned it over on downs.
 
St. Cloud State called a timeout with 2:06 left in the fourth quarter. The score was Northern State 31, St. Cloud State 24.
 
Northern State looked to run out the clock late in the game.
 
Northern State came away with the 31-24 victory over St. Cloud State.

NORTHERN STATE TOOK ON CONCORDIA ST. PAUL IN A FOOTBALL GAME AT SEA FOAM STADIUM

Northern State University from Aberdeen, South Dakota took on Concordia St. Paul at Sea Foam Stadium on the campus of Concordia. Northern State University came into the game with a record of 1-1. Concordia St. Paul also came into the record of 1-1.

Northern State kicked off to Concordia to start the game off. Charles Gilber returned the kickoff to the forty five yard line. That’s where they started the first drive. Concordia kept the ball on the ground on first offensive drive. Jerry Shaw found a hole and was able to pick up a first down for Concordia. Concordia went for a 40 yard field goal but was not successful.

Northern State got the ball after the Concordia missed field goal. They were not able to get a first down. They punted the ball back to Concordia.

Concordia got the ball on their own 16 yard line. Concordia looked to get the ball into the hands of Jerry Shaw. There was a penalty on the play that brought them back to the 17 yard line. Concordia was not able to get the first down and that made them have to punt the ball to Northern State.

Northern State got the ball back near midfield. Concordia did a good job of getting to the quarterback. He had to make rushed passes. Jay Moten for Concordia was able to pick off a pass to give them the ball back.

Concordia St. Paul tried both the air and the ground game in the first quarter. Northern State was able to slow down the Concordia offense. Concordia went for it on fourth down and inches. Northern State was able to step up and prevent Concordia from getting a first down.

Northern State took a timeout with 1:08 left in the first quarter with the score tied at 0.

Cedric Okoi picked off the ball in the end zone for Concordia and brought the ball to the 35 yard before he was tackled. Tre Mason caught a pass and ran 56 yards for a Concordia touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.

With 15.3 seconds left in the first quarter the score was Concordia 7 and Northern State 0.

The score at the end of the first quarter was Concordia 7 and Northern State 0.

Northern State got the ball to start the second quarter. Northern State's Mark Hanley came up with a nice catch that gave them a first down. Northern State used both the run and the pass plays in the second quarter. Concordia stepped up their defensive pressure and was able to stop the Northern State drive.

Concordia was not able to get a first down so they punted the ball back to Northern State. Northern State used their short game package where they looked to get pick up two to three yards per play.

Josh Aho made a nice catch for Northern State that got them a first down. Kristin James ran 5 yards for a touchdown for Northern State. The extra point attempt was good. That made the score tied at 7.


Concordia went to a hurry up offense in the last 2:00 left in the second quarter. Concordia called a timeout with 52.7 left in the first quarter.

Concordia looked to punch the ball into the end zone late in the second quarter. Jarred Russo found Charles Gillbert in the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good. With 24.9 seconds left in the second quarter the score was Concordia 14 and Northern State 7. 

At halftime the score was Concordia 14 and Northern State 7.

Concordia kicked off to Northern State to start the third quarter. Northern State used mostly a running attack on the first drive of the third quarter. They were determined to get into the end zone on the first drive. 

Concordia's defense stepped up and prevented Northern State a first down so they attempted a field goal. The Northern State field goal attempt was good. With 11:52 left in the third quarter was Concordia 14 and Northern State 10.

Jay Moten received the kickoff for Concordia. Concordia looked to score on their first drive of the third quarter. Tre Mason caught a touchdown pass with 8:57 left in the third quarter. The extra point attempt was good.

With 8:57 left in the third quarter the score was Concordia 21 and Northern State 10.

Northern State got the ball back after the touchdown. They had to punt the ball back to Concordia St. Paul.

Concordia was able to put some nice plays together and was able to make their march down the field. Jarred Russo did a good job of running his team on the offensive end. Jarred Russo was picked off by Logan Fahnhorst for Northern State.

The Logan Fahnhorst interception gave them some energy. Christopher Morton ran the ball into the end zone for a Northern State touchdown. The two point conversion was no good.

With 2:59 left in the third quarter the score was Concordia 21 and Northern State 16.

Northern State kicked off to Concordia after the touchdown. Concordia was not able to get a first down so they had to punt the ball to Northern State.

At the end of the third quarter the score was Concordia 21 and Northern State 16.

Northern State got the ball to start the fourth quarter. Northern State stepped up big and was able to get a first down. Kristin James for Northern State came up with an 8 yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was no good.

With 11:34 left to go in the fourth quarter the score was Northern State 22 and Concordia 21.

Northern State kicked off to Concordia after the touchdown. Concordia looked to go deep on a few plays. Concordia continued to look to pound the ball down the field. Sam Campbell came up with a nice play and was able to get a first down. Sam Campbell came up with a touchdown with 8:06 left in the fourth quarter. The two point conversion was no good.

With 8:06 left in regulation the score was Concordia 27 and Northern State 22.

Concordia kicked off to Northern State after the touchdown. Northern State looked to pick up the pace on the offensive end as they looked to get back to the line of scrimmage quickly. They wanted to get to their end zone as quickly as they could. Northern State took a timeout with 3:01 faced with fourth down and 11 yards to go. Northern State was not able to get a first down and they turned the ball over to Concordia.

Concordia came up with some big offensive plays late in the game. Concordia came away with the 27-22 victory over Northern State. I thought that Sam Campbell came up big with some big plays.

UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA TAKES ON NORTHERN STATE UNIVERSITY

The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers are taking on Division-2 Northern State University from Aberdeen South Dakota. This is the last exhibition game before the Gophers open the regular season on November 14th against Concordia St Paul.


As the game starts the Gophers are pushing the ball up the court and Northern State is playing a strong man to man defense. Both teams are trading baskets in this fast paced game. Blake Hoffarber just hit a nice three point shot and the Gophers are trying to feed off his energy. Early in the game the Gophers are shooting 66.7 % from the field.


The Gophers are playing well and have come out with a lot of urgency and purpose. Ralph Sampson has made some nice moves around the basket. With 11:10 left to go in the first half the score is Northern State 15 and Minnesota 15.


The Gophers are pressing midway through the first half. They have been able to hit their shots and Hoffarber has hit both of his 3 pointers.


The Gophers are playing a good aggressive defense. They are talking on their screens and getting through the picks. Colton Iverson has just committed his second foul here with 5:40 left to go in the first half.


Al Nolen Jr. is playing well and is making some good screens and looking to get his players into the game. He has been leading this team by example. He just made a fantastic play, passing the ball around his back on the break and then he made a nice pass to Paul Carter who got the ball in the lane and he went in for a nice layup.
Both teams continue to play well. With 3:30 left to go in the first half the score is the Gophers 34 and Northern State 27.


Devoe Joseph has also played well. He has really made some nice moves to the basket while the Gophers continue their aggressive play.


At half time the score is Minnesota 40 and the Huskies 27. Northern State shot 40 % from the field and the Gophers 58.3%.


As this second half gets under way both teams are have come out strong. The Gophers have shot the ball much better than the Huskies. With 15:37 left to go in the game Northern State is shooting 48.3% and the Gophers 61.3% from the field.


Colton Iverson has come up with a big blocked shot. The Gophers are getting a little sloppy and you can see that Tubby Smith does not like what he is seeing. Al Nolen has just come up with a big steal, to get the Gopher fans on their feet. With 11:42 left to go in the game the Gophers lead 61-42.


Every Gopher is now playing good team basketball and helping each other out. Northern State is pressing the Gopher guard’s full court giving them some problems. Ralph Sampson has picked up his play and looking good from a true freshman. He has had some easy dunks and has made some nice passes and is really starting to fit in to this Gopher’s scheme. It is going to be fun watching him mature as a player this season.


Northern State is not giving up and is still playing aggressive. Lawrence Westbrook has come up with some real nice plays and has shined here in the second half. Al Nolen has been the glue tonight and is showing good leadership on the floor.


With 7:55 left to go in the game, Minnesota leads 70-52.


The Gophers are looking to put this game away and have been able to run their offense and defensive effectively tonight.


The nice thing about these exhibition games is the team has a chance to build some confidence and momentum for regular season, when the competition becomes much stronger.


With 3:41 left to go in the game the score is the Gophers up on the Huskies 82-56.


Al Nolen and Lawrence Westbrook have shown Coach Smith that they are going to be dependable players. Both have played well on both ends of the court and no doubt well be depended on when the Gophers face their Big-10 opponents.


The Gophers end up winning this exhibition game by the score of 92-62. The leading scorers for the Gophers were Lawrence Westbrook with 19 points, Paul Carter 17, and Al Nolen 9. The Gophers ended up shooting the ball much better then Northern State with their 55.9% shooting from the field, while the Huskies were limited to 39.2.
