PERHAM WENT UP AGAINST GOODHUE IN A CLASS AA BOYS’ STATE QUARTERFINAL BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Perham and Goodhue went up against each other in a boys’ basketball quarterfinal game. The game was played at Target Center.

Perham looked to move the ball down the floor and take time off the 35-second shot clock.

Perham guard Isaiah Farrell was all over the floor. On the offensive end, he came up with mid-

range jump shots and layups.

Perham struggled with shooting the ball early. Even though they struggled early, they looked to get the

ball into Farrell’s hands.

Perham called a timeout with 11:18 left in the first half. The score was Goodhue 16, Perham 5.

Goodhue made layups in transition. They were able to get the ball into the hands of
Michael Roschen, Alex Loss and Luke Roschen. They were all able to come up with mid-range jump
shots and layups.

Perham’s Sam Dale came up with layups and jump shots on the offensive end.

Perham went to a zone defense. They looked to spread Goodhue out and make them take late shots in the shot clock.

Both teams took a lot of time off the 35-second shot clock.

Farell kept on calling for the ball and he was able to make jump shots and layups on the
offensive end.

Goodhue knew where everyone was on the floor, and they were able to communicate with each other
and were able to make shots throughout the first half.

Perham called a timeout with 3:09 left in the first half. The score was Goodhue 29, Perham 14.

Both teams took a lot of time off the shot clock late in the first half. They kept on attacking the
basket, however.

At halftime, the score was Goodhue 36, Perham 18.

Goodhue aimed to pass the ball to Michael, Luke Roschen and Alex Loss. All three of them
were able to make shots on the offensive end. They were also able to get the ball into their
teammates’ hands.

Even though Perham struggled shooting the ball throughout the first half, they kept attacking the
basket in the second half.

Perham called a timeout with 14:28 left in regulation. The score was Goodhue 44, Perham 25.

Perham continued to struggle shooting the ball in the second half.

Goodhue took a lot of time off the clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line. They
looked for their shots with about 10 seconds left on the shot clock.

Goodhue continued to make their shots throughout the second half.

Perham called a timeout with 11:47 left in regulation. The score was Goodhue 52, Perham 25.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. Even though Perham struggled shooting the ball,
they didn’t give up on either end of the floor.

Perham couldn’t get their offense going throughout the game. They played hard throughout the
game.

Goodhue came away with the 70-49 victory over Perham.

The leading scorers for Perham were Farrell and Thiel, both with 10 points. The leading scorers
for Goodhue were Loss with 20 and Roschen with 17 points.

MINNEAPOLIS NORTH WENT UP AGAINST PERHAM IN THE CLASS AA STATE BOYS’ BASKETBALL SEMIFINAL GAME

On March 23, Minneapolis North and Perham went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game.

North looked to take their time on the offensive end. They swung the ball around the 3-point line and were able to get everyone involved in the offense.

It took a while for each team to get into an offensive shooting rhythm. Both teams took a lot of time off the clock.

There was a media timeout with 14:06 left in the first half. The score was North 3, Perham 2.

Perham also took a lot of time off the clock early in the first half.

North’s Eli Campbell came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. Teammate Willie Wilson came up with 3-point shots.

North got hot midway through the first half. They were able to slow down the Perham on the offensive end.

There was a media timeout with 7:52 left in the first half. The score was North 21, Perham 4.

North continued to push the ball down the floor. Perham didn’t get bothered by not making shots. They kept on shooting the ball.

North called a timeout with 5:25 left in the first half. The score was North 23, Perham 6.

Both teams went after rebounds on both ends of the floor.

There was a media timeout with 3:11 left in the first half. The score was North 27, Perham 11.

North used their quickness to get to the basket. They were able to get everyone involved in the offense. North was also able to communicate well on both ends of the floor.

North’s Nasir El-Amin came up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the first half.

At halftime, the score was North 31, Perham 15.

As the second half got underway North continued to look to get to the basket.

Perham hot on a roll in the second half.

There was a media timeout with 12:01 left in regulation. The score was North 41, Perham 25.

North continued to push the ball down the floor late in the game.

There was a media timeout with 6:05 left in regulation. The score was North 49, Perham 34.

North was too quick for Perham. Perham struggled shooting the ball throughout the second half.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. North was able to get their offense going early. Perham didn’t quit, even though they had a difficult time shooting the ball they still played hard throughout the game.

North came away with the 62-46 victory over Perham.

The leading scores for Perham were Josh Jeziorski with 15 points, Finn Diggins with 14 points and Jenson Beachy with 11 points.

The leading scorers for North were Nasir El-Amin with 13 points, Davon Townley with 12 points, Willie Wilson with 11 points and Eli Campbell with 10 points.

 

PERHAM TOOK ON BRECK IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Perham went up against Breck in a boys’ basketball game. The score went back and forth early. Breck passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to get everyone involved in the offense. 

Perham got everyone involved in the offense. They did a good job of passing the ball to each other and talking on both ends of the floor.

Perham used their quickness to get down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Neither team went on a run in the first half. Both teams were evenly matched in the first half.

At halftime, the score was Perham 44, Breck 33.

As the second half got underway Perham kept on attacking the basket and coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Breck’s David Roddy was all over the floor. On the offensive end, he came up with big mid-range jump shots and layups. On the defensive end, he was able to slow down the guy he was guarding.

Roddy came up with key baskets in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Perham kept attacking the basket late in the game. They were able to slow Breck down on the offensive end late in the second half.

Breck couldn’t hang on late in the game. Perham came away with the 82-75 victory over Breck.

The leading scores for Perham were Jenson Beachy 36 points and Josh Jeziorski with 24 points.

The leading scorers for Breck were David Roddy with 37 points and Joey Ganley with 19 points.

PERHAM TOOK ON MINNEHAHA ACADEMY IN THE QUARTERFINALS OF THE 2013 MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL STATE TOURNAMENT

Perham and Minnehaha went up against each other in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Minnesota State High School League state tournament.

Minnehaha won the tip. They looked to set the tempo of the game early in the contest.

Minnehaha looked to get the ball into the hands of Thomas Gedion. Gedion was all over the floor on the offensive end. He was able to get shots that the put up.

Perham had a difficult time getting into an offensive shooting rhythm. They were not able to get shots that they put up to go in.

The scoring slowed down a little bit midway through the first half.

Perham seem to wake up midway through the first half as they went on a 5-0 run with just under 10 minutes to go in the first half.

Kaharri Carter was all over the floor. Carter was able to knock down some key shots throughout the first half for his team.

Minnehaha used both zone and man-to-man defense in the first half. They were able to slow down the Perham offense.

Perham made a run late in the first half.

Minnehaha called a timeout with 3:14 left in the first half. The score was Minnehaha 20 and Perham 17.

Perham didn't go away in the first half. They hung around as they kept on looking for different ways to attack the basket.

In a game that had a good tempo and feel for it from the start of the contest at halftime the score was Minnehaha 27 and Perham 24.

As the second half got underway the game continued to be close.

Minnehaha went on a run midway through the second half. Perham called a timeout with 5:43 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 43 and Perham 32.

Perham did try to make a come back late in the game. But that run came up short. Minnehaha was able to come away with the 53-41 victory over Perham.

PERHAM TOOK ON LITCHFIELD IN THE STATE CLASS AA SEMIFINALS OF THE MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE STATE BOYS' BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

The Perham Yellow Jackets who came into the game with a record of 28-2 took on the Litchfield Dragons in the state semifinals of the Minnesota State High School League.

Both teams looked to get into a shooting rhythm easy on in the game. Both teams took their time shooting the ball and getting into their offense.

At the first media timeout with 14:47 left in the first half the score was Perham 4 and Litchfield 6.

Both of these teams looked confident under pressure. Both of these teams looked to get the ball out of the net and run as they both looked to score baskets in transition.

There was a media timeout with 10:57 left in the first half. The score was Perham 12 Litchfield 8.

Perham got the ball into the hands of Jordan Bruhn. He was all over the defensive end. Bruhn was all over the floor. He was not afraid to get the ball to his teammates if he thought they had a better shot.

In a low scoring first half the score at the 3^rd media timeout with 5:38 the score was Perham 18 and Litchfield 17.

Perham kept on pounding the ball inside.

There was a media timeout with 3:52 left in the first half. The score was Perham 20 and Litchfield 19.

Neither team went on a run in a very physically contested game.

The first half the score was Litchfield 21 and Perham 20.

In the first half Perham shot 9-18 from the field that included going 1-5 from behind the three-point line. Litchfield shot 10-22 from the field that included going 1-4 from behind the three-point line.

As the second half got underway both teams kept the intensity at on high. At the first media timeout of the second half, with 14:49 left the score was Perham 25 and Litchfield 23.

Perham played mostly man-to man in the second half.

There was a media timeout with 9:59 left in the game the score was Perham 29 and Litchfield 28.

The score went back and forth throughout the second half. Both teams worked the clock to maximize their possession times.

Perham called a timeout with 3:44 left in the game with the score tied at 31.

Perham went to a zone defense late in the zone late in the game. On the offense end they held the ball to burn time off the clock.

The game came down to the wire. Litchfield held the ball as they wanted to take the last shot. Neither team has made a basket for the last seven minutes of the second half. As time clicked off the shot with the scored still tied, Zach Kinny hit the game winning shot with time expiring Litchfield won the game 33-31. 

THE WORTHINGTON TROJANS TOOK ON THE PERHAM YELLOW JACKETS IN THE CLASS AA STATE QUARTERFINAL BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

The Worthington Trojans who came into the game with a record of 21-6 went up against the Perham Yellow Jackets who had a record of 27-2 in the state quarter finals boys basketball game.

The game opened up as each team raced up and down the court trading baskets. Perham got the ball into the hands of Jordan Bruhn and Jordan Cresap. Both of them were able to shoot the ball well in the first half.

Worthington got the ball into the hands of Mitch Weg. Who was all over the floor. He was able to keep his team in the game.

Perham called a timeout with 4:12 left in the first half. It was a defensive struggle for both sides and the score was Worthington 22 and Perham 17. For the remaining 4:12 first half only 7 points were scored.

Both of the coaches were really into the game. They both stood and shouted instructions to their players as to let them know what play they wanted to run.

At halftime the score was Worthington 24 and Perham 22.

Worthington was 11-25 from the field that included going 1-4 from behind the three-point line. Perham was 9-22 from the field that included going 2-8 from behind the three-point line.

As the second half got underway both teams continued to look to shoot the ball. Worthington looked to keep feeding Weg the ball. Weg was determined to get to the basket.

The game went back and forth midway throughout the second half. Neither team gave up easy shots. 

 

Worthington got down in the game but they never got down on themselves. Perham eventually gained control of the game at both ends of the court. They outshot their opponent and held them to 23 points in the second half. Perham on the other hand scored 29 points in the second half.

Both student fan sections cheered and chanted back and forth for a fun atmosphere. Both bands played and that got each team motivated in playing.

The game went back and forth late in the game. Perham came away with the 51-47 victory over Worthington.

The leading scorers for Worthington were Mitch Wed with 24 points and Lucas Henning with 9 points. Worthington shot 21-45 from the field that included going 3-10 from behind the three-point line. They were 2-4 from the free-throw line. Worthington brought down a total of 26 rebounds 20 of them on the defensive end.

PROVIDENCE ACADEMY TOOK ON PERHAM IN THE MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE STATE QUARTERFINAL GAME AT ST. CLOUD STATE UNIVERSITY

Providence Academy took on Perham in the Minnesota State High School League class AAA state high school quarterfinal game at St. Cloud State University. Providence Academy came into the game with a record of 9-2. Perham came into the game with a record of 8-3.

Providence kicked off to Perham to start the game. Perham was not able to get a first down on their first series and they had to punt the ball on fourth down.

Providence kept the ball on the ground on their first series of the game. Providence looked to get the ball into the hands of Marshall Klitzke. Providence fumbled the ball and Perham came up with the ball.

Perham was able to pick up first downs. They were successful in their running game. Jordan Hein the quarterback was able to scamper for 29 yards for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was no good.

With 5:50 left in the first quarter the score was Perham 6 and Providence 0.

Perham kicked off to Providence after the touchdown. Providence’s Daniel Ledial came up with a nice reception and was able to get his team a first down. Providence looked to gain small yards on little running routs. They went for it on fourth down but they came up short. They turned it over to Perham on downs.

Perham was intercepted by Kellen Carney. Providence got the ball on the Perham 22 yard line.

At the end of the first quarter the score was Perham 6 and Providence 0.

Providence got the ball to start the second quarter and they tried to march down the field.

Perham called a timeout with 10:41 left in the second quarter.

Providence found the end zone on a Marshall Kilitzke touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good. With 10:27 left in the second quarter the score was Providence 7 and Perham 6.

Perham got the ball back after the touchdown. They tried to march down the field and they fumbled the ball and Providence recovered it.

Providence got the ball and they looked to get the ball into the end zone. Marshall Kilitze ran into the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.

With 7:18 left in the second quarter the score was Providence 14 and Perham 6.

Perham got the ball back after the touchdown. Perham looked to move the ball down the field. On fourth down and one yard to go they went for it and they were not able to get the first down.

Providence got the ball on the turnover on downs. Providence was able to get the ball into the hands of their running backs. They looked to get the ball in the end zone once again as they were able to march down the field picking up first downs. Nick Schmitz came up with a nice reception and Marshall Kilitze came up for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.

With 3:26 left in the second quarter the score was Providence 21 and Perham 6.

Providence kicked off to Perham after the touchdown. Perham kept looking for ways to get into the end zone.

Perham looked to score on the last drive of the second quarter.

Providence took a timeout with 56.8 seconds left in the second quarter.

Perham's Jordan Hein scored a touchdown with 52.2 left in the quarter. The extra point attempt was no good.

At halftime the score was Providence 21 and Perham 12.

Perham kicked off to Providence to start the third quarter. Providence Academy punted the ball on fourth down and 14 to go on the first drive of the third quarter.

Perham got the ball back and they were able to get another first down. Perham's Gabe Pankonin scored a touchdown with 7:09 left in the third quarter. The extra point attempt was good.

With that touchdown the score was Providence 21 and Perham 19.

Providence was intercepted and Perham came up with the ball. Perham was not able to come up with a first down and they punted it back to Providence.

Providence got the ball back into the hands into Marshall Kiltze hands. Once again Providence threatened to score late in the quarter. Jackson Canfield scored a touchdown on a short yard run. The extra point attempt was good.

With 2:06 left in the third quarter the score was Providence 28 and Perham 19.

Perham got the ball back after the touchdown.

At the end of the third quarter the score was Providence 28 and Perham 19.

Providence got the ball to start the fourth quarter. Providence kept pounding the ball on the ground. They looked to pick up first downs on every drive.

Perham was intercepted on a passing play that gave Providence the ball back.

Jackson Canfield came up with some big plays throughout the game.

I really thought that both teams played well. This was the first time that I have seen either of these two teams play this season. I also was impressed by the play of Providence Academy's Marshall Kiltze. He ended up with three touchdowns and was all over the field. I was also impressed by the play of his teammate Jackson Canfield.

Providence came away with the 28-19 victory over Perham. After the game I was able to talk to Providence head coach Nate Harrington about the game. He said, “The kids worked the plan that was four years in the making”. He said Marshal Kiltze played well and he was a workhorse.

Marshall Kiltze said that this team, “was faster playing on turf and the o line played great. The loss to St. Croix Lutheran was tough. We got our confidence back after the Break win.”

Jackson Canfield said, “It was a great win against a great team. Went back to a basic running game.”

ROCHERSER LOURDES TOOK PERHAM IN THE CLASS AA MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE CLASS AA BOYS' BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

Rochester Lourdes took on Perham in the state championship game of class AA boys' basketball.
 

Perham came out in a match up zone defense.
 

At the first media timeout the score was Rochester Lourdes 2 and Perham 0.
 

Perham's defense caused Rochester Lourdes problems.
 

The score went back and forth throughout the first half.
 

With 6:56 to go in the first half the score was Perham 11 and Rochester Lourdes 9.
 

Perham strung together some baskets late in the half.
 

At halftime the score was Perham 18 and Rochester Lourdes 13.
 

As the second half got underway Jordan Bruhn looked to get the ball into his hands. He got his
teammates involved in the offense.
 

Rochester Lourdes got the ball out of the rim and was able to attack the basket.
 

The score went back and forth throughout second half.
 

With 10:13 left in regulation the score was Perham 22 and Rochester Lourdes 23.
 

The game came down to the wire. It was a very defensive game. Neither team went on a run.
 

Nick Tobkin stepped out and was able to knock down a deep three-point shot to give Perham energy.
 

With 6:17 left in regulation the score was Perham 31 and Rochester Lourdes 25.
 

Rochester Lourdes was not able to make a shot for a period in the second half.
 

Perham went on a run with just under 4:00 to go. They closed out the game on a run and came away
with the 45-37 victory over Rochester Lourdes.
 

After the game I was able to talk to Perham's Jordan Bruhn, Jordan Cresap, Sam Stratton, and Nick

Tobkin about winning the Class AA championship victory. I was also able to head Dave Cresap about
the victory.

 

PERHAM TOOK ON WATERVILLE-ELYSIAN-MORRISTOWN IN THE SEMIFINALS OF THE MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE STATE TOURNAMENT

Perham Yellow Jackets took on the Waterville-Elysian Morristown (WEM) Buccaneers in the class AA semifinals of the Minnesota State High School League.
 
WEM got out to a quick 5-0 run to start the game. That was the score at the first media timeout with
14:44 left.
 
Perham started out the game in a man-to-man defense.
 
Perham's Jordan Cresap drove hard to the basket. He took good shots and had very good court
awareness. He knew where his teammates were on the court at all times.
 
With 10:53 left in the first half the score was WEM 9 and Perham 7.
 
Both of these teams played well on the defensive end. Neither of them gave up easy baskets.
 
With 3:51 left in the half the score was WEM 12 and Perham 11.
 
WEM held Perham scoreless for a good portion of time late in the first half.
 
At halftime the score was WEM 15 and Perham 11.
 
As the second half got underway both teams started hitting their shots. The score went back and forth
in the second half.
 
With 14:56 left in regulation the score was WEM 19 and Perham 17.
 
The score went back and forth throughout the second half.
 
WEM had a 26-21 lead with 9:04 left in regulation.
 
Perham just couldn't get shots to fall late in the contest. WEM did a good job of shutting down the
Perham offense.
 
The game came down to the wire. WEM held the ball as they looked to take the final shot with the the score tied.
 
The game was tied at 32 as time expired.
 
In the overtime period WEM made the first shot. Perham didn't back down. Jordan Hein for Perham
stepped up and made a nice jump shot to tie the game up at 34.
 
WEM called a full timeout with 1:46 in the overtime period.
 
WEM went to a zone defense to start the second half. They looked spread Perham out and force them to jack up bad shots.
 
WEM srpead the ball out as they looked to take the last shot of the game and use as much time off the clock as they could. Perham stayed in their zone defense.
 
The game was tied at 36 at the end of the first overtime period.
 
Perham's Nick Tobkin drained a jump shot to give Perham a two point lead.
 
Perham came away with the 45-41 victory in double overtime.
 
The leading scorers for WEM were Conrad Mesberg with 17 points and Tate Harmon with 14 points.
 
The leading scorers for Perham were Mark Schumacher with 10 points and Nick Tobkin with 14 points.

After the game I was able to talk to Perham's Nick Tobkin, Jordan Cresap, Jordan Bruhn and Mark
Schumacher about the semifinal victory.
