The Worthington Trojans who came into the game with a record of 21-6 went up against the Perham Yellow Jackets who had a record of 27-2 in the state quarter finals boys basketball game.
The game opened up as each team raced up and down the court trading baskets. Perham got the ball into the hands of Jordan Bruhn and Jordan Cresap. Both of them were able to shoot the ball well in the first half.
Worthington got the ball into the hands of Mitch Weg. Who was all over the floor. He was able to keep his team in the game.
Perham called a timeout with 4:12 left in the first half. It was a defensive struggle for both sides and the score was Worthington 22 and Perham 17. For the remaining 4:12 first half only 7 points were scored.
Both of the coaches were really into the game. They both stood and shouted instructions to their players as to let them know what play they wanted to run.
At halftime the score was Worthington 24 and Perham 22.
Worthington was 11-25 from the field that included going 1-4 from behind the three-point line. Perham was 9-22 from the field that included going 2-8 from behind the three-point line.
As the second half got underway both teams continued to look to shoot the ball. Worthington looked to keep feeding Weg the ball. Weg was determined to get to the basket.
The game went back and forth midway throughout the second half. Neither team gave up easy shots.
Worthington got down in the game but they never got down on themselves. Perham eventually gained control of the game at both ends of the court. They outshot their opponent and held them to 23 points in the second half. Perham on the other hand scored 29 points in the second half.
Both student fan sections cheered and chanted back and forth for a fun atmosphere. Both bands played and that got each team motivated in playing.
The game went back and forth late in the game. Perham came away with the 51-47 victory over Worthington.
The leading scorers for Worthington were Mitch Wed with 24 points and Lucas Henning with 9 points. Worthington shot 21-45 from the field that included going 3-10 from behind the three-point line. They were 2-4 from the free-throw line. Worthington brought down a total of 26 rebounds 20 of them on the defensive end.
