MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On February 2, Minneapolis Roosevelt and Minneapolis North squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game Roosevelt had an overall record of 0-3 and North had an overall record of 2-0. Minneapolis decided not to have fans in the stands. There were only North cheerleaders and game personnel in the stands for the game. Both teams had their respective benches spread out 6 feet in between each other.

North looked to push the ball down the floor. They looked to swing the ball around the 3-point line and get everyone involved in the offense. North started the game in a man-to-man defense.

North’s Jacob Butler came up with steals and turned them into layups in transition. Teammate Davon Townley also came up with big mid-range jump shots and layups.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 16:07 left in the first half. The score was North 13, Roosevelt 0.

North looked to trap the ball on the defensive end. They looked to turn Roosevelt over. North was able to swing the ball around the three-point line look for their shot.

North guard Andre Gray II knew where his teammates were on the floor and was able to get his teammates the ball where they could shoot it.

North’s CJ Brown III came up with deep 3-point shots as he came off screens. He did a good job of calling for the ball on the offensive end.

North’s Mario Sanders came up with steals on defense and layups on the offensive end. He also did a good job of running the North’s offense.

Even though Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball throughout the first half they kept on shooting the ball.

North looked to score layups in transition. They made a lot of cross-court passes midway through the first half. North was able to make those passes and come up with layups.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 8:22 left in the first half. The score was North 34, Roosevelt 0.

North was able to set the tempo early as they were able to keep control of the ball. North’s Anderson and Willie Wilson both were able to make shots that they put up in the first half.

North continued to push the ball down the floor and come up with layups late in the first half. Wilson stepped up and knocked down deep three-point baskets. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Roosevelt’s Devin Feather-Earring stepped up and knocked down shots late in the first half.

At halftime, the score was North 69, Roosevelt 12.

As the second half got underway North continued to push the ball down the floor.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 16:38 left in regulation. The score was North 71, Roosevelt 12.

Anderson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the second half. North used their quickness to get to the basket and get past the Roosevelt defense.

North was not afraid to take deep 3-point shots and go after rebounds.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball throughout the whole game. North used their quickness to get to the basket and they were able to make their shots.

North called a timeout with 8:57 left in regulation. The score was North 86, Roosevelt 15.

North’s Datrell Mccrimmon came off the bench and looked to get his shot going latte in the game.

Neither team gave up late in the game. North put in their JV team with just under six minutes to go.

North came away with the 110-21 victory over Roosevelt.

MINNEAPOLIS NORTH WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 20, Minneapolis North and Minneapolis Roosevelt went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game North had a record of 17-5 while Roosevelt’s record was 1-22. 

North won the tip. Roosevelt started the game in a zone defense. They wanted to make North pass the ball around the 3-point line. 

Both teams went after the ball going after rebounds early in the first half. Neither team gave up open looks at the basket. 

North applied full-court ball pressure. They looked to turn Roosevelt over and come up with layups on the offensive end. 

North’s Jacob Butler came up with layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. Teammate Freshawn Collins came layups off curl cuts. 

North looked to also get the ball inside to Quientrail Jamison-Travis. Jamison-Travis came up with layups on the offensive end. 

Roosevelt’s Lakarion Moore looked to set the offensive pace by bringing the ball down the floor and getting his teammates involved in the offense. 

Roosevelt didn’t get frustrated as their shots were not dropping early in the first half. They kept on looking for their shots. 

Collins kept on coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. Jamison-Travis also came up with layups as well. 

Roosevelt’s Dennis Holte came up with layups as he came off screens. Roosevelt ran a motion offense, so they passed and cut often, and they also communicated well on both ends of the floor.

North’s Willie Wilson came up with steals and layups on the offensive end. 

Roosevelt’s Dennis Holte came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. He wasn’t afraid of contact on both ends of the floor. 

North kept on attacking the basket and coming up with shots. They were able to get past Roosevelt’s defense. 

Montgomery Booth came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Collins stepped up and knocked down shots late in the first half. 

North continued to shoot the ball and look for their shots late in the first half. 

Holte came up with layups and jump shots late in the first half. 

At halftime, the score was North 50, Roosevelt 30. 

As the second half got underway both teams continued to go after the ball and looked to make shots. 

North’s Wilson kept on coming up with shots in the second half. He took his time on the offensive end.

North continued to come up with shots in the second half. They passed the ball around the 3-point line getting everyone involved in the game.

North passed the ball around to each other in the second half. They were able to get everyone involved in the offense and come up with baskets. 

Butler came up with deep 3-point shots and mid-range jumpers late in the game. Townley came up with slam dunks as well. 

North used their quickness to get past the Roosevelt defense. Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball and was not able to make shots that they put up. They didn’t get frustrated while they were not able to make shots that they put up.

Both teams fought hard throughout the game. Neither team gave up an uncontested shot throughout the game.

North looked to push the ball down the floor and looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Roosevelt struggled to shoot the ball throughout the first half. Roosevelt started the game in a zone. 

North pushed the ball down the floor and was able to get layups in transition They were able to get past the Roosevelt defense. 

Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball throughout the game. Roosevelt turned the ball over multiple times in the first half. 

Roosevelt called a timeout with 12:42 left in the first half. The score was North 20, Roosevelt 20.

North’s Mario Sanders II came up with steals and mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

 North moved the ball down the floor well in the first half. They were able to turn Roosevelt over and come up with layups on the offensive end.

Roosevelt’s Musfata Salad came up with layups and free throws in the first half. His team struggled shooting the ball throughout the first half. 

North wasn’t afraid to take the ball strong to the basket.

North’s De’Mekio Anderson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Roosevelt’s Nelson Ladd came up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the first half. His teammates got him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

North’s De’Meiko Anderson came up with mid-range jump shots and deep 3-point shots late in the first half.

Roosevelt came out quickly as they looked to come up with layups and mid-range jump shots. 

North’s Butler came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

Roosevelt looked to come up with layups in the second half. They struggled shooting the ball throughout the second half. Even though they struggled shooting the ball they kept on shooting the ball. 

With 12:37 left in regulation. The score was North 70, Roosevelt 43. 

North continued to push the ball down the floor and continued to come up with layups and jump shots in transitions. 

Anderson kept on coming up with jump shots and layups in the second half. Teammate’s Willie Wilson and Townley both came up with shots in the second half. 

Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball throughout the game. Even though they struggled they kept on shooting the ball. 

Both teams played well. Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball throughout the game but played well. North was all over the floor. North came away with the 88-56 victory over Roosevelt. 

The leading scorers for Roosevelt were Salad with 19 points, and Holte with 15 points. 

The leading scorers for North were Townley with 25 points, Wilson with 20 points, Anderson with 19 points.

FRIDLEY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 6, Fridley and Minneapolis Roosevelt squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game Fridley had a record of 2-5 while Roosevelt’s record was 0-11. 

Fridley pushed the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition. Fridley did a good job of passing the ball around the 3-point line as they looked for their shots. 

Fridley used their quickness to get pas the Roosevelt defense. They did a good job of talking to each other on both ends of the floor. 

Roosevelt also swung the ball around the 3-point line as they got everyone involved in the offense. 

Fridley did a good job of swinging the ball around the top of the key and was able to penetrate to the basket. 

Both teams dove on the floor and went after loose balls on both ends of the floor. 

Fridley’s Christian Crockett came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

Roosevelt’s Dennis Holte came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He knew where his teammates were and set them up to get open shots at the basket. 

Fridley called a timeout with 10:02 left in the first half. The score was Roosevelt 15, Fridley 6.

Roosevelt was able to get everyone involved in the offense and they attacked the basket and got their shots to fall in the first half. 

Fridley wasn’t afraid to shoot deep 3-point shots. Everyone crashed the boards on both ends of the floor.

Both teams crashed the boards as they went after rebounds. 

Fridley’s Isaac Burns came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. If Burns didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it off to one of his teammates. 

After a slow start by Fridley, their offense started clicking late in the half.

Fridley looked to trap the ball as soon as Roosevelt passed the half-court line.

Roosevelt was able to swing the ball around the 3-point line and get everyone touches.

Fridley attacked the basket, and everyone rebounded the ball. Fridley’s Burns came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Roosevelt’s Dennis Holte came up with some key mid-range jump shots and layups.

Fridley’s Tra’Vione Stevenson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He took the ball strong to the basket and kept Fridley in the game. 

The defensive pressure that Fridley applied made it difficult for Roosevelt to make their shots in the second half.

Fridley looked to trap the ball and turn Roosevelt over midway through the first half. 

Roosevelt couldn’t make their shots down the stretch.

Roosevelt continued to attack the basket late in the game. Neither team gave up as both teams played hard throughout the game. 

In a hard-fought game, Fridley came away with the 74-66 victory over Roosevelt.

MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT WENT UP AGAINST BLAKE IN A GIRLS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 2, Minneapolis Roosevelt and Blake High Schools went up against each other in a girls’ basketball game. The game was played at Blake School. 

As the game got underway both teams looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.  

Blake’s Cate Moe came up with mid-range jump shots and layups early. 

It took Roosevelt awhile to get into an offensive shooting rhythm. 

Roosevelt called a timeout with 15:00 left in the first half. The score was Blake 8, Roosevelt 0. 

Blake got everyone involved in the offense. They did a good job of passing the ball around the 3-point line as they looked for their shots. 

Both teams took their time on the offensive end. 

Both teams struggled shooting the ball throughout the first half. 

Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball throughout the first half. They couldn’t make shots that they put up. Even though they struggled shooting the ball, they kept on attacking the basket.

As the second half got underway Roosevelt stayed in a 2-3 zone defense. They made Blake pass the ball around the 3-point line and made them take time off the clock. 

Roosevelt continued to struggle to shoot the ball in the second half. They were not able to come up with shots in the second half. 

Blake continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. Blake looked to also take their time on the offensive end as they passed the ball around the 3-point line looking for their shot.

Blake continued to run the clock late in the game. Roosevelt had a difficult time making shots throughout the game.

Roosevelt couldn’t make shots throughout the game. 

Blake came away with the 68-32 victory over Roosevelt. 

MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST WENT UP AGAINST ROOSEVELT IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 30, Minneapolis Southwest went up against and Minneapolis Roosevelt squared off in a boys’ basketball game. The game was part of the 2019 TCO Holiday Classic. The game was played at Augsburg University.

Both teams looked to push the down the floor and looked for baskets in transition. It took awhile for Roosevelt to get into a shooting rhythm.

Southwest’s Marcus Mattox and Kentrell Gaulden both came up with mid-range jump shots and jump shots.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 12:53 left in the first half. The score was Southwest 16, Roosevelt 7.

Southwest did a good job of moving the ball down the floor and getting everyone involved in the offense. Southwest came up with steals on the offensive end and was able to turn the steals into layups on the offensive end.

Southwest looked to keep the defensive pressure upon Roosevelt as they looked to turn them over.

ROOSEVELT WENT UP AGAINST SOUTH ST. PAUL IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 28, Minneapolis Roosevelt and South St. Paul went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. The game was played at Augsburg University. 

Roosevelt started the game in a zone defense. They wanted to make South St. Paul move the ball around the 3-pint line early. 

South St. Paul’s Marcus Brown came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates knew where they were always on the floor and was able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. If Brown didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it to his teammates. 

Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball. They moved the ball down the floor well but were not able to come up with shots. After a slow start offensively, Roosevelt found their shooting rhythm. 

South St. Paul called a timeout with 13:09 left in the first half. The score was Roosevelt 10, South St. Paul 7.

ROOSEVELT WENT UP AGAINST HOPKINS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Minneapolis Roosevelt and Hopkins went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Hopkins looked to push the ball down the floor and score layups in transition. 

Hopkins’ Xavier White looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups early. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. Hopkins swung the ball around the 3-point line as they looked for their shot. 

Roosevelt struggled to shoot the ball in the first half. Even though they struggled shooting the ball they kept on looking for their shots. 

Roosevelt called a timeout with 13:43 left in the first half. The score was Hopkins 13, Roosevelt 0.

Hopkins took their time on the offensive end and they were able to turn Roosevelt over. Hopkins was able to come up with layups on the offensive end. 

Hopkins wasn’t afraid to take deep 3-point shots. They all rebounded the ball and attacked the glass. Hopkins looked to score baskets in transition. 

Hopkins applied pressure on the defensive end and was able to turn Roosevelt over. 

Hopkins’ Kerwin Walton came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. If Walton didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it to one of his teammates. 

Roosevelt’s Guled Abib tried to give his team some offensive power as he looked for his shot throughout the first half. 

Walton came up with steals and deep 3-point shots late in the first half.  

At halftime, the score was Hopkins 47, Roosevelt 13. 

As the second half got underway Hopkins continued to move the ball down the floor and got into their offense. 

Roosevelt continued to look to the basket throughout the second half. 

Hopkins continued to look for their shots late in the game. 

Roosevelt had a difficult time scoring the ball throughout the game. Even though they had a tough time scoring the ball they continued to attack the basket. 

Hopkins came away with the 63-22 victory over Roosevelt.

On Dec. 19, Minneapolis Roosevelt went up against Minneapolis Southwest in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game Roosevelt had an overall record of 0-5 while Southwest came into the game with a record of 1-3.

Southwest started the game out with layups and jump shots. They got everyone involved in the offense early.

Roosevelt started the game in a zone defense. They forced Southwest to take deep 3-point shots.

Southwest passed the ball around the 3-point line and came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. They were able to turn Roosevelt over and come up with layups off the turnovers.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 14:47 left in the first half. The score was Southwest 14, Roosevelt 3.

The Roosevelt offense had trouble getting going as they struggled shooting the ball early.

Southwest moved the ball down the floor quickly as they were able to get past the Roosevelt defense.

Southwest came up with steals on the defensive end and they were able to score layups on the offensive end off the steals.

Both teams looked for their shots late in the first half.

At halftime, the score was Southwest 37, Roosevelt 17.

As the second half got underway Southwest looked to get the ball into the hands of Gabe Senseman-Cassidy and Marcus Mattox who both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. Teammate Christo Polydorou came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. If Polydorou didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it to one of his teammates.

Southwest called a timeout with 13:54 left in regulation. The score was Southwest 45, Roosevelt 22.

Roosevelt’s Dennis Holte was called for a technical foul with 13:06 left in regulation.

Southwest continued to move the ball down the floor and come up with shots.

Roosevelt struggled to shoot the ball throughout the game. Southwest was to quick for Roosevelt and Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball throughout the game.

Southwest called a timeout with 1:59 left in regulation. The score was Southwest 65, Roosevelt 27.

Southwest kept on attacking the basket late in the game.

Southwest came away with the 69-27 victory over Roosevelt. 

The leading scorer for Roosevelt was Nelson Ladd with 9 points,

The leading scorers for Southwest were Camden Holter with 16 points, Christo Polydorou 14 points and  Gabe Senseman-Cassidy with 12 points.

BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 5, Bloomington Kennedy and Minneapolis Roosevelt went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game at Roosevelt. 

Roosevelt passed the ball around the three-point line as they took time off the clock on the offensive end. 

Bloomington Kennedy’s Amarion Hanspard came up with mid-range jump shots and layups early. His teammates knew where he was on the floor and were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot the ball. 

Neither team went on a run early in the first half. Roosevelt took a lot of time off the clock in the first half by passing the ball around the 3-point line. The defensive pressure that both teams applied made it impossible for the other team to get an open look at the basket.

Kennedy called a timeout with 9:26 left in the first half. The score was Kennedy 15, Roosevelt 10.

Roosevelt looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. Kennedy also didn’t have an issue putting up shots in the first half. 

Roosevelt had a hard time making baskets late in the first half. Even though they had a difficult time shooting the ball that didn’t prevent them from shooting shots.

As the second half got underway Kennedy looked to get the ball into the hands of Amarion Hanspard, Caden Glendening, Eric Dums, and Leanthony Wright-Ponder all who came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. Also, teammate Tyvan Klinger came up with layups as well. 

Roosevelt called a timeout with 14:02 left in regulation. The score was Kennedy 33, Roosevelt 23. 

Kennedy looked to keep shooting deep 3-point shots throughout the second half. 

Roosevelt’s Akram Hajhamud and Mustafa Salad both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the second half. 

After a slow start by Roosevelt in the second half. They were able to make shots and tighten up the score. Kennedy didn’t back down, however. They kept attacking the basket and looking for their shots. 

The Kennedy offense went stagnant for a few minutes in the second half. Roosevelt took advantage of that and attacked the basket and came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Roosevelt passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked for their shots that they wanted. 

Kennedy called a timeout with 6:46 left in regulation. The score was Kennedy 47, Roosevelt 40. 

Roosevelt kept on attacking the basket and looking to make shots late in the game. Neither team gave up down the stretch. 

Both teams played well throughout the game. The Roosevelt offense struggled throughout the first half, but they came out and made it a good game in the second half. 

Kennedy came up with the 58-49 victory over Roosevelt. 

MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT WENT UP AGAINST CRISTO REY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Minneapolis Roosevelt and Cristo Rey went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game.  Roosevelt took their time on the offensive end right out of the gate. They passed the ball around the three-point line as they looked to get everyone involved in the offense. 

On the defensive end, Roosevelt started in a zone defense. Cristo Rey passed the ball around the three-point line to stake time off the clock. 

It took a while for each team to get into a scoring rhythm. They both took their time on the offensive end. 

Roosevelt did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They talked a lot on both ends of the floor. 

Cristo Rey moved the ball down the floor and was able to score baskets in transition. Cristo Rey was also able to come up with steals and score layups in transition off the steals. 

Roosevelt called a time out with 10:32 left in the first half. The score was Cristo Rey 17, Roosevelt 8. 

Cristo Rey set the tempo early. They were able to push the ball down the floor and come up with layups. 

Cristo Rey looked to score baskets in transition. They would get the ball out of the net and race down the floor for layups. 

Cristo Rey called a timeout with 7:31 left in the first half. The score was Cristo Rey 22, Roosevelt 12.

Cristo Rey moved the ball down the field well and looked to get the ball into the hands of James Sommer. Sommer was able to step up and knock down mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Roosevelt had a difficult time shooting the ball throughout the first half. They were not able to make shots that they put up. 

The defensive pressure that Cristo Rey applied made it difficult for Roosevelt to make or take open shots. 

Roosevelt’s Montgomery Booth came up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the first half. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

At halftime the score was Cristo Rey 46, Roosevelt 24. 

As the second half got underway Roosevelt continued to push the ball down the floor and look for mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Cristo Rey continued to push the ball down the floor and was able to score baskets in transition. 

Roosevelt called a timeout with 14:28 left in regulation. The score was Cristo Rey 60, Roosevelt 31. 

Cristo Rey tried not to get to sloppy with the ball and now turn the ball over.

Cristo Rey called a timeout with 13:14 left in regulation. The score was Cristo Rey 64, Roosevelt 37.

Cristo Rey continued to push the ball down floor and come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Both teams played hard throughout the game. Roosevelt had a hard time scoring the ball throughout the game. Even though Roosevelt had a had time scoring the ball they made god looks at the basket. 

Cristo Rey came away with the 91-57 victory over Roosevelt.
