On Jan. 6, Fridley and Minneapolis Roosevelt squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game Fridley had a record of 2-5 while Roosevelt’s record was 0-11.
Fridley pushed the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition. Fridley did a good job of passing the ball around the 3-point line as they looked for their shots.
Fridley used their quickness to get pas the Roosevelt defense. They did a good job of talking to each other on both ends of the floor.
Roosevelt also swung the ball around the 3-point line as they got everyone involved in the offense.
Fridley did a good job of swinging the ball around the top of the key and was able to penetrate to the basket.
Both teams dove on the floor and went after loose balls on both ends of the floor.
Fridley’s Christian Crockett came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
Roosevelt’s Dennis Holte came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He knew where his teammates were and set them up to get open shots at the basket.
Fridley called a timeout with 10:02 left in the first half. The score was Roosevelt 15, Fridley 6.
Roosevelt was able to get everyone involved in the offense and they attacked the basket and got their shots to fall in the first half.
Fridley wasn’t afraid to shoot deep 3-point shots. Everyone crashed the boards on both ends of the floor.
Both teams crashed the boards as they went after rebounds.
Fridley’s Isaac Burns came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. If Burns didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it off to one of his teammates.
After a slow start by Fridley, their offense started clicking late in the half.
Roosevelt called a timeout with 6:19 left in the first half. The score was Fridley 20, Roosevelt 17.
Fridley looked to trap the ball as soon as Roosevelt passed the half-court line.
There were multiple ties and lead changes late in the first half. Both teams attacked the basket late in the first half.
Roosevelt went to a zone defense late in the first half. That made Fridley pass the ball around the 3-point line.
Both teams took a lot of time off the clock by passing the ball around the 3-point line late in the first half.
At halftime, the score was Fridley 29, Roosevelt 28.
Roosevelt’s Holte kept on coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. Roosevelt was able to get past the Fridley zone defense.
Fridley passed the ball around the 3-point line as they attacked the Roosevelt defense. Fridley’s Micah Niewald came up with deep 3-point shots.
Roosevelt was able to swing the ball around the 3-point line and get everyone touches.
Fridley attacked the basket, and everyone rebounded the ball. Fridley’s Burns came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
Roosevelt’s Dennis Holte came up with some key mid-range jump shots and layups.
Fridley called a timeout with 10:26 left in regulation. The score was Fridley 52, Roosevelt 42.
Fridley’s Tra’Vione Stevenson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He took the ball strong to the basket and kept Fridley in the game.
The defensive pressure that Fridley applied made it difficult for Roosevelt to make their shots in the second half.
Fridley looked to trap the ball and turn Roosevelt over midway through the first half.
Roosevelt couldn’t make their shots down the stretch.
Roosevelt called a timeout with 4:26 left in regulation. The score was Fridley 64, Roosevelt 54.
Roosevelt continued to attack the basket late in the game. Neither team gave up as both teams played hard throughout the game.
In a hard-fought game, Fridley came away with the 74-66 victory over Roosevelt.
The leading scorers for Roosevelt were Dennis Holte with 24 points, Guled Abib with 13 points, Mustafa Salad with 12 points, Montgomery Booth with 11 points.
The leading scorers for Fridley were Yoal Ruei with 22 points, Micah Niewald with 15 points, and Isaac Burns with 13 points.
