On Dec. 21, Onalaska and Minnehaha Academy went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game.
Both teams raced up and down the floor early as they both looked to score baskets in transition.
Minnehaha’s Jalen Suggs took mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could make shots.
Onalaska’s Hank Olsen came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in the low block where he came up with layups.
Minnehaha’s Chet Holmgren came up with layups on the low block. His teammates were able to feed him the ball on the low block where he called for the ball.
Minnehaha called a timeout with 11:53 left in the first half. The score was Onalaska 13, Minnehaha 8.
The defensive pressure that Onalaska applied made it difficult for Minnehaha to get an open look at the basket.
The score went back and forth midway through the first half.
Onalaska Moved the ball down the floor well and got everyone involved in the offense. They swung the ball around the 3-pint line and got everyone touches in the paint.
Suggs came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He was able to make shots.
Onalaska called a timeout with 4:29 left in the first half. The score was Minnehaha 19, Onalaska 18.
Onalaska’s Tyrell Stuttley came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. He was able to get pas the Minnehaha defense.
Minnehaha’s Donovan Smith came up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the first half.
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and went after rebounds. Neither team gave up uncontested shots late in the first half.
Onalaska came up with layups late in the first half. They stepped up their defensive presser late in the first half.
At halftime, the score was tied at 29.
As the second half got going both teams continued to look to get the ball down the floor and come up with shots.
Onalaska’s Arenz and Stuttley both continued to shoot the ball well in the second half. Their teammates were able to get them the ball in spots where they could shoot it.
The score continued to go back and forth in the second half. Neither team went on a run.
Minnehaha called a timeout with 14:16 left in regulation. The score was Onalaska 34, Minnehaha 31.
Onalaska’s Stuttley called for the ball on the flow block and was able to come up with layups and jump shots.
Suggs came up with steals and turned them into layups on the offensive end.
Onalaska called a timeout with 11:44 left in regulation. The score was tied at 30.
Minnehaha didn’t give up any easy looks at the basket. They contested shots that Onalaska took.
Minnehaha kept attacking the basket late in the game. Suggs attacked the basket and came up with mid-range shots and layups. He was able to get past the defenders. He was also able to step up and knock down deep 3-point shots.
Olsen came up with deep 3-point shots in the second half. Onalaska did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.
Onalaska called a timeout with 6:42 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 46, Onalaska 43.
Onalaska passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to take time off the clock. They were not afraid to take deep 3-point shots either.
Onalaska’s Stuttley and Arenz kept them in the game by stepping up and making shots. They knew where their teammates were on the floor and got everyone involved in the offense.
Minnehaha called a timeout with 3:29 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 51, Onalaska 49.
Minnehaha’s Kaden Johnson came up with deep 3-point baskets late in the game. He was able to come off screens and get to the basket. Suggs came up with rebounds. Suggs was also able to step up and knock down free throws late in the game.
Minnehaha called a timeout with 1:41 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 56, Onalaska 52.
The game came down to the wire. Neither team went on a run late in the contest.
Minnehaha called a timeout with 25.2 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 58, Onalaska 57.
Minnehaha attacked the basket late in the contest.
Onalaska called a timeout with 5.7 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 59, Onalaska 57.
Onalaska’s Dakota Mannell attempted a free throw with 5 seconds left and missed. Minnehaha’s Kaden Johnson came up with a rebound and was fouled and he shot two free throws.
Minnehaha called a timeout with 4.5 seconds left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 61, Onalaska 57.
Minnehaha came away with the 61-57 victory over Onalaska.
The leading scorers for Onalaska were Stuttley with 19 points, Arenz with 18 points.
The leading scorers for Minnehaha were Suggs with 21 points, Johnson with 13 points and Holmgren with 11 points.
