MINNEAPOLIS NORTH WENT UP AGAINST ST. CROIX PREP IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On a cold winter night on Dec. 13, Minneapolis North traveled to St. Croix Prep for a basketball game. 

St. Croix pushed the ball down the floor as they looked to score baskets in transition. St. Croix Prep wasn’t afraid to take deep 3-point shots. 

North called a timeout with 16:25 left in the first half. The score was North 4, St. Croix Prep 2. 

St. Croix Prep’s Daniel McCarrell and Addison Metcalf both looked to make shots. Their teammates were able to get them the ball in spots where they could shoot it. 

North’s Quientrail Jamison-Travis came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He was able to draw the defense to him and got fouled. He was also able to make free throws. Teammate CJ Brown III came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

St. Croix’s Ben Silvernale came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He wasn’t afraid to take the ball strong to the basket. 

St. Croix Prep wasn’t afraid to shoot deep 3-point shots. 

North called a timeout with 9:55 left in the first half. The score was tied at 13. 

Both teams played tight defense throughout the first half. Neither team gave up easy shots. 

St. Croix Prep’s Andrew Howard came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. Teammate Tommy Hamm came off the bench and provided an offensive boost. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the first half. 

North’s De’Meiko Anderson came in and provided a defensive pressure that made it difficult for the guy he was guarding to make a shot. 

St. Croix’s Daniel McCarrell came up with deep shots and layups. He wasn’t afraid to take the ball strong to the basket. Teammate Tommy Hamm came up with mid-range jump shots and layups on the low block. 

Neither team gave up easy baskets. Also, neither team went on a significant run in the first half. 

North’s Mario Sanders II came up with layups late in the first half. If Sanders didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it around to his teammates. 

At halftime the score was North 38 St. Croix Prep 33. 

As the second half got underway St. Croix Prep continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition. They were able to keep attacking the North’s defense.  

The game remained close early in the second half. 

Daniel McCarrell came up with deep 3-point shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot the ball. 

Both teams were very physical on both ends of the floor. Both teams battled for the ball on both ends of the floor. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the second half. 

St. Croix Prep stepped up and knocked down shots mid-rage through the second half. They were able to force North to take contested shots and North struggled to shoot the ball in the second half. 

St. Croix Prep called a timeout with 9:14 left in the second half. The score was St. Croix Prep 52, North 47. 

St. Croix Prep continued to move the ball down the floor and came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. St. Croix Prep got everyone involved in the offense. St.Croix Prep’s McCarrell, Metcalf Haire and Benson all came up with mid-range jump shots and layups
 throughout the game. 

North didn’t back down to the pressure that St. Croix Prep put up. North kept on shooting the ball late in the game. They struggled to shoot the ball in the second half. 

North called a timeout with 3:04 left in the second half. The score was North 66, St. Croix Prep 54. 

St. Croix Prep looked to take time off the clock late in the game by swinging the ball around the 3-point line. 

St. Croix Prep called a timeout with 1:23 left in regulation. The score was St. Croix Prep 67, North 56. 

Both teams played hard throughout the game. St. Croix Prep kept attacking the basket late in the game. 

St. Croix Prep came away with the 70-58 victory over North. 

The leading scorers for St. Croix Prep were Addison Metcalf with 16 points, Daniel McCarrell and Zach Doely each with 14 points.

The leading scorers for North were Davon Townley with 19 points, De'Meiko Anderson with 16 points, and Mario Sanders II with 10 points.
