On Jan. 13, Breck and Minnehaha Academy went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. The game was played at Minnehaha Academy. Going into the game Breck had a record of 2-10 while Minnehaha Academy had a record of 8-2. Minnehaha’s Jalen Suggs was not suited up for the game.
Minnehaha won the tip and they looked to push the ball down the floor early. It took a while for each team to get into a shooting rhythm.
The score went back and forth early. Breck looked to get everyone involved in the offense.
Minnehaha’s Hercy Miller came off the bench and provided an offensive strength on the floor. His teammates knew where he was on the floor and they were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
Breck’s Andy Ott was able to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. If Ott didn’t think that he had a good shot, he wasn’t afraid to pass it to one of his teammates.
Minnehaha took their time on the offensive end as they got everyone involved in the offensive.
Breck called a timeout with 11:55 left in the first half. The score was Minnehaha 16, Breck 13.
On the defensive end, Minnehaha’s pressure made Breck must pass the ball around the 3-point line. Breck was able to get everyone involved in the offense by passing the ball around the 3-point line.
There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the first half. Neither team went on a huge run in the first half.
Minnehaha’s Isaiah Davis came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He was able to come off screens and get to the basket and call for the ball. His teammates were able to get him the ball where he could shoot it.
Minnehaha’s Kaden Johnson came up with shots and was also able to get to the line and knock down free throws. Johnson wasn’t afraid to dive on the floor after loose balls.
Breck’s Jimmy Koch knocked down some clutch shots in the first half to keep Breck in the game.
Breck called a timeout with 7:15 left in the first half. The score was Minnehaha 29, Breck 27.
Minnehaha’s Donovan Smith was able to get his shots to drop in the first half. He came off screens and was able to get to the basket.
Minnehaha kept on attacking the basket late in the first half and applying pressure on the defensive end that it made it hard for Breck to come up with open looks at the basket.
Minnehaha Terry Lockett came up with steals and layups. Minnehaha did a good job of controlling the tempo from the start of the game.
Breck went into a scoring drought with just under five minutes to go in the first half. Minnehaha took advantage of that as they raced down the floor and got layups in transition.
Minnehaha looked to take time off the clock late in the first half was they passed the ball around the 3-point line while they were running a motion offense.
Even though Breck struggled at times shooting the ball, they kept on attacking the basket late in the first half.
Breck’s Will Ott was able to get the ball to the basket as he came off of screens and was able to make shots late in the first half. He also was able to get his teammates involved in the offense. Miller also stepped up and knocked down shots in the second half. Miller picked up his third foul with just under a minute to go in the first half. Johnson buried a 3-point shot at the buzzer.
At halftime the score Minnehaha 57, Breck 37.
As the second half got underway Minnehaha continued to push the ball down the floor and looked for layups in transition.
The game got sloppy early in the second half as there were a lot of turnovers by each team. They were just sloppy with the ball.
Minnehaha’s Prince Aligbe came up with some big baskets and a slap dunk in the second half. Teammate Isaiah Davis knocked down shots as well.
Breck called a timeout with 15:39 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 67, Breck 38.
Even though Breck struggled to shoot the ball throughout the game they kept on attacking the basket throughout the second half.
Breck’s Jaren Morton, Jimmy Koch, Will Ott, and Julian Bergerson all attack the basket and looked for their shots.
Minnehaha looked to take their time on the offensive end in the second half. They went to a motion offense and did a good job of moving without the ball. Minnehaha’s Chase Carter looked to get layups in the second half. He took the ball hard to the basket as he made his layups.
Breck’s Andy Ott knocked down deep 3-point shots in the second half.
Minnehaha called a timeout with 9:34 left to go in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 79, Breck 44.
Breck had a difficult time shooting the ball throughout the game. Even though they struggled shooting the ball they didn’t back down to Minnehaha’s pressure.
Minnehaha called a timeout with 8:30 to go in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 84, Breck 44.
Booth teams played hard throughout the game. Minnehaha used their quickness to get to the basket as they were able to make their shots throughout.
Breck looked to make their shots late in the game and they kept the defensive pressure on Minnehaha late in the contest.
Minnehaha was too quick for Breck and Breck struggled to make shots throughout the game. Minnehaha came away with the 101-52 victory over Breck.
The leading scorers for Minnehaha were Hercy Miller with 17 points, Donovan Smith 5 3s 15 pts, and Prince Aligbe with 13 points.
The leading scorers for Breck were Jaren Morten with 10 points, Andy Ott with 9 points, and Julian Bergerson with 8 points.
