BENILDE-ST. MARGARET’S WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS DELASALLE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

In the second part of a doubleheader the boys’ teams of Benilde-St. Margaret’s and DeLaSalle squared off against each other. 

DeLaSalle pushed the ball down the floor as they looked to get everyone involved in the offense early. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s got the ball into the hands of Dan Ijadimbola and Nels Birkeland. Both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

DeLaSalle’s Jalen Travis called for the ball on the low block. He was able to make layups from the low block. 

The score went back and forth early in the game. Neither team went on a large run early. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s wasn’t afraid to shoot deep 3-point shots. Everyone crashed to the boards and went after rebounds. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s Isaiah Smith came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

DeLaSalle pushed the ball down the floor and looked to score layups in transition.  DeLaSalle’s Cade Haskins came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

DeLaSalle took their time on the offensive end. They passed the ball around the 3-point line as they got everyone involved offensively. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 6:33 left in the first half. The score was DeLaSalle 19, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 17. 

The score continued to go back and forth throughout the first half. 

DeLaSalle’s Cade Haskins came up with deep 3-point shots as he knew where to shoot the ball from on the offensive end. The defense had a hard time slowing Haskins down. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 3:21 left in the first half. The score was DeLaSalle 32, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 21. 

Both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and look for their shots. 

Haskins kept on coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the first half. He was able to able to make shots in traffic. 

Birkeland and Hansen kept on coming up with shots late in the first half.

At halftime, the score was DeLaSalle 40, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 25. 

As the second half got underway DeLaSalle continued to look to score the ball and get everyone involved in the offense. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s kept on looking to move the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition. Smith kept on coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 10:20 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 55, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 37. 

Haskins and Travis both came up with big baskets throughout the game. Amir Whitlock also was able to make mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. 

Travis came up with jump shots in the lane as the defense had a hard time slowing him down. 

DeLaSalle called a timeout with 5:19 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 66, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 53. 

DeLaSalle continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition late in the game. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 2:34 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 71, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 60. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s struggled shooting the ball throughout the game. Even so however they kept on attacking the basket late in the game. 

Benilde-St.Margaret’s Isaiah Smith and Peterson kept on coming up with big shots late in the game. 

DeLaSalle came away with the 79-67 victory over Benilde-St. Margaret’s. 

The leading scorers for Benilde-St. Margaret’s were Smith with 18 points, Peterson with 15 points and Derric Standifer with 13 points. 

The leading scorers for DeLaSalle were Haskins with 31 points, Travis with 24 points, Whitlock with 11 points and White with 8 points.
