BENILDE-ST. MARGARET’S WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS DELASALLE IN A GIRLS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 20, Benilde-St. Margaret’s went up against Minneapolis DeLaSalle in a girls’ basketball game. 

DeLaSalle looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition early.  

Benilde-St. Margaret’s pushed the ball down the floor and got everyone involved in the offense early. They passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked or their shots. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 15:05 left in the first half. The score was tied at 4. 

DeLaSalle went into a full man-to-man full-court press as they wanted to make it difficult for Benilde-St. Margaret’s to bring the ball down the floor. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s went to a zone defense. That made DeLaSalle pass the ball around the 3-point line. That took time off the clock. 

It took both teams a while to get into an offensive shooting rhythm. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s also looked to score baskets in transition. Benilde-St. Margaret’s looked to get the ball into the hands of Tyreana Reliford. Reliford came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot it. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 11:51 left in the first half. The score was Benilde-St. Margaret’s 8, DeLaSalle 5. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the first half.  Neither team went on a run early. 

DeLaSalle put on a full-court man-to-man press and they were able to come up with steals and layups and jump shots on the offensive end. 

DeLaSalle took their time on the offensive end. They got everyone involved in the offense. 

The defensive pressure that DeLaSalle applied made it difficult for Benilde-St. Margaret’s to make shots that they put up. 

DeLaSalle’s Nurjei Weems came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot it. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 5:19 left in the first half. The score was DeLaSalle 31, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 18.

Weems continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the first half.  

DeLaSalle continued to look for their shots and coming up with them in the first half.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls on both ends of the floor. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s called timeout with 2:27 left in the first half. The score was DeLaSalle 39, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 20. 

DeLaSalle’s Savannah White came up with deep 3-point shots and layups late in the first half. If she didn’t think that she had a good shot, she would pass it to one of her teammates. 

At halftime, the score was DeLaSalle 48, Benilde-St. Margaret’s 23. 

As the second half got underway DeLaSalle continued to push the ball down the floor and kept on looking for their shots. 

Weems continued to shoot the ball well in the second half. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot it. Teammate Kiani Lockett also came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. 

DeLaSalle’s Sydney Runsewe came off screens and was able to make layups.  

Benilde-St. Margaret’s couldn’t get their shots to drop throughout the game. Even though they couldn’t shoot the ball they kept on shooting it. Reliford was all over the place on the offensive end. He was able to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

DeLaSalle was able to shoot the ball well throughout the game. They passed the ball around to each other and were able to make their shots.

DeLaSalle looked to take time off the clock late in the game by swinging the ball around the 3-point line. This got everyone involved in the offense, but it also took a lot of time off the clock. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s called a timeout with 7:26 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 78, Benilde-St. Margarets’48. 

DeLaSalle continued to attack the basket late in the game. Benilde-St. Margaret’s didn’t have an answer for DeLaSalle on the offensive end. Both teams fought hard throughout the game. 

Benilde-St. Margaret’s was able to get their shots to drop late in the game, but it was to late as they couldn’t mount a comeback. 

DeLaSalle came away with the 86-55 victory over Benilde-St. Margaret’s. 

The leading scorer for Benilde-St. Margaret was Reliford with 40 points. 

DeLaSalle was led in scoring by Runsewe with 19 points, Weems with 17 points, Lockett with 13 points and Kennedy Klick with 10 points and Savannah White with 10 points.
