ROOSEVELT WENT UP AGAINST SOUTH ST. PAUL IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 28, Minneapolis Roosevelt and South St. Paul went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. The game was played at Augsburg University. 

Roosevelt started the game in a zone defense. They wanted to make South St. Paul move the ball around the 3-pint line early. 

South St. Paul’s Marcus Brown came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates knew where they were always on the floor and was able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. If Brown didn’t think that he had a good shot, he would pass it to his teammates. 

Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball. They moved the ball down the floor well but were not able to come up with shots. After a slow start offensively, Roosevelt found their shooting rhythm. 

South St. Paul called a timeout with 13:09 left in the first half. The score was Roosevelt 10, South St. Paul 7. 

Roosevelt passed the ball around the 3-point line as they got everyone involved in the offense. Roosevelt used a lot of time off the clock. They wanted to make it difficult for South St. Paul to get open looks at the basket. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the first half. Neither team went on a huge run. 

South St. Paul looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. South St. Paul’s Marcus Brown came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. 

Roosevelt called a timeout with 3:57 left in the first half. The score was South St. Paul 28, Roosevelt 25. 

South St. Paul’s Brown kept on coming up with mid-range jump shots late in the first half. His teammates knew where he was on the offensive end and got him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

At halftime, the score was South St. Paul 37, Roosevelt 32. 

As the second half got underway both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition. 

Roosevelt went to a half-court man-to-man defensive set. They wanted to make it difficult for South St. Paul to make their shots. 

South St. Paul looked to know down 3-point shots. If they thought that they had a better shot, they would take that one. 

Roosevelt called a timeout with 13:24 left in regulation. The score was South St. Paul 48, Roosevelt 36. 

Roosevelt kept on attacking the basket on the offensive end. They kept on attacking the basket on the offensive end as they looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. 

South St. Paul called a timeout with 9:27 left in regulation. The score was South St. Paul 56, Roosevelt 45. 

South St. Paul continued to attack the basket late in the game. They were able to make their shots late in the game. 

Roosevelt was able to hit their shots down the stretch. They wanted to frustrate South St. Paul on the offensive end.  Roosevelt looked to continue to score layups in transition.

South St. Paul called a timeout with 4:03 left in regulation. The score was South St. Paul 67, Roosevelt 60. 

Both teams continued to attack the basket late in the game.

Roosevelt continued to come up with shots late in the game. The game came down to the wire.

Roosevelt looked to come up with shots late in the game. 

 In a hard-fought game South St. Paul came away with the 74-69 victory over Roosevelt. 

The leading scorers for Roosevelt were Mustafa Salad with 20 points, Nelson Ladd with 10 points and Lakarion Moore with 10 points. 

The leading scorers for South St. Paul were Marcus Brown with 19 points, Marquise Gleb with 17 points, Alonzo Dodd with 14 points.
