ST. PAUL ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST NORTH ST. PAUL IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

St. Paul Academy and North St. Paul squared off in a boys' basketball game. St. Paul Academy took the ball hard to the rack.

St. Paul Academy’s guard Dalante Peyton took the ball hard to the basket. He looked to make layups and mid-range jump shots.

St. Paul Academy Kent Hanson was all over the floor. Hanson came up with layups and mid-range jump shots.

North St. Paul called a timeout with 11:39 left in the first half. The score was St. Paul Academy 16, North St. Paul 6.

St. Paul Academy took a lot of time off the clock as they swung the ball around the three-point line.

They looked to get the ball into the hands of Peyton who beat his defenders and got to the basket.

North St. Paul called a timeout with 9:03 left in the first half. The score was St. Paul Academy 22, North St. Paul 6.

St. Paul Academy played zone defense in the first half. They took a lot of time off the clock.

North St. Paul looked to go to a full court press and looked to make it difficult for St. Paul Academy to bring the ball down the floor.

North St. Paul’s Termaine Daniels came up with deep three-point baskets late in the first half.

Peyton nailed a deep 3-point shot at the buzzer.

At halftime the score was St. Paul Academy 34, North St. Paul 22.  

As the second half got underway St. Paul Academy came out in a zone defense.

St. Paul Academy’s Ryan Peacock came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half.

St. Paul Academy’s Shaymus O'Brian came up with deep 3-point baskets. He got hot in the second half.

St. Paul Academy looked to take a lot of time off the clock late in the second half.

St. Paul Academy came away with the 57-48 victory over North St. Paul.

The leading scorer for St. Paul Academy was Emerson Egly with 15 points.

The leading scorer for North St. Paul was Termaine Daniels with 17 points.

NORTH ST. PAUL WENT UP AGAINST WAYZATA IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

North St. Paul and Wayzata went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Wayzata started out in a zone defense. They wanted to force North St. Paul to take long outside shots.

Both teams took a lot of time off the clock by swinging the ball around the three-point line.
It took a while for each team to get into a shooting rhythm. The defense that each team played made it difficult for the other team to get open looks at the basket.

North St. Paul played a tough zone defense that didn’t allow Wayzata to get open shots.

North St. Paul was able to step up and knock down some deep three-point shots late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Wayzata 21, North St. Paul 9.

As the second half got underway Wayzata continued to push the ball down the floor and set the tempo.

North St. Paul looked to get fast breaks in the second half, but they were unable to because Wayzata kept up with them.

Wayzata passed the ball around the three-point line as they looked to take time off the clock and keep the ball out of North St. Paul’s hands.

Both teams took a lot of time off the clock. Neither team was in a hurry to shoot the ball.

Wayzata was in control the whole game. North St. Paul didn’t back down however.

Wayzata came away with the 48-34 victory over North St. Paul.

NORTH ST. PAUL WENT UP AGAINST BLAINE IN A BASKETBALL GAME

North St. Paul and Blaine squared off in a basketball game. It took a while for North St. Paul to get into an offensive shooting rhythm.  

Blaine did a good job of setting the offensive tempo and was able to get everyone involved in the offense. They did a good job of swinging the ball around the three-point line and getting the ball inside.

North St. Paul wasn’t able to hit shots early in the first half, they struggled to shoot the ball.

At halftime the score was Blaine 20, North St. Paul 7.

North St. Paul looked to push the ball in transition as they wanted to score baskets. Blaine was able to still dictate the pace of the game however.

The pace of the game slowed down in the second half. Both teams did a good job of trying to control the tempo.

Blaine took the ball hard to the basket and was able to hit layups throughout the second half.

North St. Paul really couldn’t get anything going offensively throughout the game.

Blaine came away with the 40-19 victory over North St. Paul.

ST. FRANCIS TOOK ON NORTH ST. PAUL IN A BASKETBALL GAME

St. Francis and North St. Paul went up against each other in a basketball game. North St. Paul was able to get out and score baskets in transition.

North St. Paul started in zone defense. That made it hard for St. Francis to get open looks at the basket.

St. Francis took a lot of time off the clock in the first half as they were able to swing the ball around the three-point line. They were able to communicate well with each other on the floor as they were able know where everyone was on the floor.

 Both teams looked to score baskets in transition.  

At halftime the score was North St. Paul 29, St. Francis 18.

The second half got underway with St. Francis fired up. They came out and really attacked the basket as they looked to cut into their deficit.

North St. Paul was crisp with their passing. They were able to move the ball well down the floor and get into spots where they could shoot the ball.

St. Francis was not able to get their offense going.  

North St. Paul came away with the 58-39 over St. Francis.

NORTH ST. PAUL WENT UP AGAINST FARMINGTON IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

North St. Paul and Farmington went up against each other in a boys basketball game.
 
Both teams started out in a zone defense. Farmington looked to the push the ball down the floor and make layups in transition.
 
North St. Paul struggled to shoot the ball. Farmington took advantage of that and was able to convert layups.
 
North St. Paul did a good job of moving the ball around the three-point line, but they were not able to hit shots that they put up.
 
Even though North St. Paul struggled to make their shots they kept on shooting shots that they thought would go in.
 
At halftime the score was Farmington 40, North St. Paul 19.
 
Farmington’s Jordan DeCroock and Eli Rocket were all over the floor. They were able to make shots that they put up.
 
Farmington was no match for North St. Paul. North St. Paul didn’t give up they fought hard throughout the contest.
 
North St. Paul couldn’t get anything going offensively. Layjon  Ogisi was not afraid to drive to the basket on offense.
 
In a game that was lopsided from the get go, Farmington came away with the 68-39 victory over North St. Paul.
 
The leading scorers for Farmington were Rocket with 13 points, Johnny Dittman with 12 points and DeCrock with 11 points,
 
The leading scorer for North St. Paul was Jake Steckley with 8 points.

NORTH ST. PAUL TOOK ON EASTVIEW IN THE CLASS AA STATE BOYS’ STATE CHAMPIONSHIP SOCCER GAME

North St. Paul and Eastview went up against each other in the class AA state boys’ soccer championship game.
 
Both teams did a good job of getting the ball up and down the field.
 
North St. Paul’s Tyler Oliver was all over the field. He was good with the ball and was able to get the ball down the field. Oliver also made some good passes to his teammates.
 
Both teams were very physical in the first half. It was a tight first half. These teams really came in and played with a lot of intensity.
 
Both teams went after the ball. Neither team gave up any loose balls.
 
North St. Paul’s Justin Oliver scored a goal on a penalty kick with 10:21 left in the first half. With that goal that made the score North St. Paul 1, Eastview 0.
 
Both teams never gave up in the first half. They played hard and clean throughout the first half.
 
Eastview’s Sam Fluegge found the back of the net with 2:27 left in the first half with the assist going to Andrew Tuthill.
 
With that goal that tied the score at 1. That was the score at halftime.
 
As the second half got underway both teams continued to looked to get the ball in the middle of the field.
 
North St. Paul was able to get some clean shots on goal. Eastview’s goalkeeper Kyle Lamott came up with some good saves.
 
North St. Paul found the goal again on a goal on a header by John Anderson with 32:57 left in the
second half.
 
With that goal that made the score North St. Paul 2, Eastview 1.
 
Both of these teams put everything they had on the line. Neither team gave up on either end of the field.
 
Eastview scored again on a goal by Jack Teske with the assist going to Jacob Wilson with 22:37 left to go in the contest.
 
Justin Oliver found the goal with 13:11 left to go in the second half. The assist going to his brother Tyler Oliver.
 
That made the score North St. Paul 3, Eastview 2.
 
With 3:15 left in regulation Eastview’s Brett Ladoux scored a goal to tie the game up at 3.
 
The score was tied at 3 at the end of regulation.
 
In the first overtime period. Both teams continued to get the ball down the field.
 
There was no score at the end of the first overtime so the teams switched ends and another 10 minutes was put on the clock.
 
In the second overtime period the move of the same as each team looked to set up their teammates and looked to get the best possible shots on goal.
 
The game was tied after the two overtime periods. The game went to the penalty kicks.
 
Adolfo Barrera-Gonzalez won the game for North St. Paul. Polaris in shootout 5-4.
 
After the game I was able to talk Tyler Oliver about the championship game.
 
With that win North St. Paul won the MSHSL Championship for boys’ soccer in Class AA.

ANDOVER TOOK ON NORTH ST. PAUL IN THE CLASS AA BOYS’ STATE SOCCER SEMIFINAL STATE TOURNAMENT

Andover went up against North St. Paul in the state semifinals of Class AA at the Metrodome. Both teams looked to attack early in the first half.  

Andover beat Minneapolis Southwest to advance to the semifinals. North St. Paul beat Prairie Seeds Academy to make it to the semifinals.
 
Both teams seemed to be very vocal on both ends of the field, as they were each talking to their respective teammates.
 
Andover’s Ben Nivala scored a goal with 24:07 left to go with the as assist by Bradley Williams.
 
With that goal that made the score Andover 1, North St. Paul 0.
 
The ball flew around the field as each of these teams showed their kicking skills. Neither team was afraid to shoot kick the ball toward the goal.
 
At halftime the score was Andover 1, North St. Paul 0.
 
The second half got underway both teams continued to attack the goal. Both teams however kept the ball near midfield.
 
North St. Paul’s Adam Hildebrandt scored a goal with 31:20 left to go in the game.
 
With that goal that tied the game at 1.
 
With 22:01 left in regulation Tyler King from North St. Paul scored a goal to make the score North St. Paul 2, Andover 1.  
 
It was a hard-fought game. Both teams played well throughout the contest.
 
North St. Paul came away with the hard fought 2-1 victory over Andover.
 

NORTH ST. PAUL WENT UP AGAINST ORONO IN THE MINNETONKA BOYS’ BASKETBALL FALL LEAGUE

North St. Paul and Orono went up against each other in the Minnetonka fall league. It took a while for each of these teams to get into a shooting rhythm.
 
The score went back and forth early in the contest. Neither team was able to go on a run.  
 
Both teams played man-to-man defense. Neither team gave up easy shots.  
 
Orono looked to shoot the ball from inside the three-point line. They looked to make layups.
 
At halftime the score was Orono 18, North St. Paul 16.
 
As the second half got underway both teams continued to swing the ball around the three-point line to get into an offensive rhythm.
 
The defense each team played was very good. Neither team shot a ton of shots but when they did they had a hand in their face.
 
There were many ties and lead changes throughout the game.
 
Both teams played hard throughout the contest. I thought that both teams played very well on the defensive end.
 
The game came down to the wire. In the end however Orono came away with the 48-38 victory.

PRAIRIE SEEDS ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST NORTH ST. PAUL IN THE STATE QUARTERFINALS OF THE MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE STATE SOCCER TOURNAMENT

Prairie Seeds Academy (PSA) and North St. Paul (North) went up against each other in the quarterfinals of the Minnesota State High School League boys’ soccer state tournament.  Going into the game PSA had a record of 14-0-0 while North had a record of 17-1-1.
 
Both teams looked to get off to a quick start. North did a good job of getting the ball down the field they had good ball movement as they were able to get everyone involved in the offense.
 
With 24:00 left in the first half PSA’s Mourir Peterson-Darbaki scored a goal from 5 yards out.
 
The score with 24 minutes left was PSA 1, North 0.
 
Both teams continued to move the ball down the field
 
Tyler Oliver for North scored a goal with 19:40 left to go in the first half. 
 
That made the score tied at 1.
 
Both teams played very aggressively. There were many penalties by both teams throughout the first half but nothing major. Both teams didn’t lose their cool.
 
The first half was very physical. Neither team gave up any easy shots.
 
At halftime the score was tied at 1.
 
NSP’s Adam Hildebrant scored a goal with 37:42 left to go in regulation.
 
With that goal the score was North 2, PSA 1.
 
Both teams played with a lot of passion and energy.  
 
North moved the ball well down the field. They were able to move around the field without the ball.
 
I thought that both teams played well. It was a very physical game and it was a fun game to cover.
 
Both teams attacked the goal hard and they didn’t give up on either end of the field.
 
In a hard fought game North came away with the 2-1 victory over PSA.
 
With that win North will play Andover in the state semifinals on October 28.

NORTH ST. PAUL TOOK ON PRIOR LAKE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

North St. Paul and Prior Lake went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game at the Minnetonka Fall League.
 
North St. Paul came out on fire as they took a 7-2 lead with just under 15 minutes left in the first half. Prior Lake however got their shots to drop.
 
The score went back and forth midway through the first half. Both teams looked to get open shots.
 
The defense made it difficult for each team to hit wide open shots.
 
Neither team went on a run in the first half.  
 
North St. Paul used mostly a zone defense throughout the first half. They wanted to force Prior Lake to take long shots.  
 
At halftime the score was Prior Lake 26, North St. Paul 16.
 
Prior Lake continued to attack the basket and was able to shoot lay-ups. North St. Paul had a difficult time slowing down Prior Lake on defense.
 
North St. Paul came to life in the second half. They strung some baskets together as they looked to attack the Prior Lake defense.
 
The pace of the game picked up midway through the second half. Both teams rushed shots in the second half.
 
Prior Lake came away with the 56-47 victory over North St. Paul.
