EASTVIEW WENT UP AGAINST EDNIA IN A 6A STATE FOOTBALL GAME

On Oct. 25, Eastview and Edina squared up against each other in the first round of the Class 6A State Tournament. The game was at Edina High School. 

Eastview kicked off to start the game. Edina took over on their own 47-yard line. Edina looked to get the ball on the ground, but they were not to air it out on their first drive. Edina’s Connor Larson came up with catches as Edina moved the ball down the field.  On 4th-and-7, Edina went for it. 

Edina called a timeout with 8:42 left the first quarter. The score was Edina 0, Eastview 0. 

Edina decided to go for it. They were not able to come up with a first down. They turned the ball over on downs. 

Eastview took over on their own 40-yard line. Eastview’s Linoell Quincy Suggs came up with a 59-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was not good. 

With 7:46 left in the first quarter. The score was Eastview 6, Edina 0.

Edina took over on their own 35-yard line. Edina looked to move the ball down the field. Edina fumbled the ball and Eastview took over on the Edina 44-yard line.

Eastview got the ball into the hands of Suggs. Suggs looked to make big catches in the first quarter. Eastview punted on 4th-and-7. 

Edina took over on their own 42-yard line. Edina kept the ball on the ground late in the quarter. Haza Malim came up with a 46-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was not good. 

With 4:30 left in the first quarter, the score was tied at 6. 

Eastview took over on their own 27-yard line. On 4th-and-2 Eastview punted. 

Edina took over on their own 2-yard line. Edina kept the ball on the ground as they looked to move the ball down the field. Edina’s Marcus Johnson came up with a first down run. 

After one quarter of play, the score was tied at 6. 

Edina used both the run and air attack early in the second quarter. On 4th-and-17 Edina elected to punt the ball. 

Eastview took over on their own 15-yard line. Suggs was all over the field as he came up with a 39-yard run.  

Eastview took a timeout with 9:10 left in the second quarter. The score was tied at 6. 

Eastview moved the ball down the field. They used both the running attack and the air attack to get past the Edina defense. Suggs was all over the field. He was able to get first downs on the ground. Suggs came up with a 12-yard touchdown run. The extra point attempt was good. 

With 7:19 left in the second quarter, the score was Eastview 13, Edina 6. 

Edina took over on their own 31yard line. Edina’s Johnathan Bunce was all over the field. He was able to come up with catches to move the chains down the field. On 4th-and-2 Edina went for it. 

Edina called a timeout with 1:38 left in the second quarter. The score was Eastview 13, Edina 6. 

Edina went for it on 4th-and-2. Edina was able to come up with a first down. On 4th-and-6 Edina went for it. 

Eastview called a timeout with 25 seconds left in the second quarter. The score was Eastview 13, Edina 6. 

Edina’s Lucas Fleming came up with a touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good. With 17 seconds left in the second quarter, the score was tied at 13. 

Eastview took over on their own 33-yard line. 

At halftime, the score was tied at 13. 

Edina kicked off to start the third quarter. Eastview took over on its own 36-yard line. Suggs came up with a short run. The defense had a hard time slowing him down. On 4th-and-4 Eastview punted the game. 

Edina took over on their own 17-yard line. Edina once again looked to move the ball down the field. 

Edina called a timeout with 8:16 left in the third quarter. The score was tied at 13. 

On 4th-and-7 Edina punted the ball. 

Eastview took over on their own 23-yard line. Eastview moved the ball down the field again as they looked for first downs. On 4th-and-8 Eastview punted. 

Edina took over on their own 33-yard line. Edina couldn’t move the ball down the field, and they punted on 4th-and-5. 

Eastview took over on its own 35-yard line. Eastview’s Angelo Paulucci came up with a 48-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was not good. 

With 53 seconds left in the third quarter, the score was Eastview 19, Edina 13. 

Edina took over on their own 40-yard line. 

After three quarters of play, the score was Eastview 19, Edina 13. 

Edina called a timeout with 10:49 left in the fourth quarter. The score was Eastview 19, Edina 13. 

Edina went for it on 4th-and-6. Edina came up with a first down. Edina looked to get into the end zone midway through the fourth quarter. Bunce came up with a 14-yard touchdown run. The extra point was good. With 8:20 left in the fourth quarter, the score was Edina 20, Eastview 19. 

Eastview took over on their own 34-yard line. Eastview looked to move the ball down the field once again. The defensive pressure made it hard for Eastview to move the ball down the field. Eastview went for it and was not able to get a first down. They turned the ball over on downs.

Edina moved the ball down the field. 

Eastview took a timeout with 3:06 left in regulation. The score was Edina 20, Eastview 19. 

Edina went for it on 4th-and-7. They were not able to get come up with a first down and turned the ball over on downs. 

Edina intercepted the ball and got the ball back. Edina moved the ball down the field late in the game. They took a knee to run out the clock with under a minute to go. 

Edina came away with the 20-19 victory over Eastview.

EDINA TOOK ON ST. LOUIS PARK IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 4, Edina and St. Louis Park squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game Edina had a record of 5-4 while St. Louis Park record was 4-5.

St. Louis Park started the game off in a zone defense. St. Louis Park wanted to make Edina take deep 3-point shots.

St. Louis Park got the ball into the hands of Cire Mayfield. Mayfield made mid-range jump shots and layups.

Edina pushed the ball down the floor and came up with layups in transition.

The score went back and forth in the first half. Neither team went on a huge run. There were multiple ties and lead changes.

With the zone defenses that both teams play that made it easier for the other team to take 3-point shots.

Edina’s Anders Nelson came up with deep 3-point shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball where he was able to make shots. Edina’s Charles Haff came up with mid-range jump shots and layups as well.

St. Louis Park called a timeout with 9:04 left in the first half. The score was Edina 20, St. Louis Park 12.

St. Louis Park’s Aidan Doherty came up with mid-range jump shots and layups off screens. Doherty called for the ball when he was open.

Mayfield and Doherty called for the ball and both took the ball hard to the basket.

Edina came up with fast-break layups. They were able to beat St. Louis Park down the floor.

St. Louis Park went into a scoring drought with under 7 minutes left in the first half. Edina took advantage of that by attacking the basket as they came up with layups.

Edina took time off the clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line. That made St. Louis Park extend their defensive pressure.

St. Louis Park called a timeout with 3:23 left in the first half. The score was Edina 29, St. Louis Park 18.

St. Louis Park’s Luke Peterson got the ball on top of the key and came up with mid-range jump shots. Peterson did a good job of feeding the ball to his teammates if he didn’t think that he had a good shot.

Mayfield continued to come up with shots late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Edina 29, St. Louis Park 24.

As the second half got underway St. Louis Park kept attacking the basket. St. Louis Park was patient with the ball on the offensive end.

Edina crashed the boards as they came up with rebounds. Edina’s Jack Middleton came up with mid-range jump shots and layups to keep his team in the game. Teammate Jacob Hutson came up with rebounds in the low post.

St. Louis Park’s Joey Whitlock got hot from behind the 3-point line, as he stepped up and made 3-point shots. The defense had a difficult time slowing him down.

St. Louis Park continued to drive to the basket and look for their shots. They were successful at making jump shots and layups.

St. Louis Park called a timeout with 11:44 left in regulation. The score was Edina 40, St. Louis Park 31.

Edina kept on passing the ball around the 3-point line and getting everyone involved in the offence.

Mayfield kept on coming up with 3-point shots in the second half. If Mayfield didn’t think that he could make shot, he would pass it to his teammates.

Edina called a timeout with 4:32 left in regulation. The score was Edina 55, St. Louis Park 46.

St. Louis Park kept on attacking the basket as they didn’t take a lot of time off the clock late in regulation. Doherty came up with layups late in the game that kept St. Louis Park in the game.

St. Louis Park called a timeout with 2:30 left in regulation. The score was Edina 55, St. Louis Park 50.

Edina looked to pass the ball around the 3-point line late to take time off the clock. Neither team was able to score late in the game.

Edina went to a full court man-to-man press with just over a minute left in the game.

Edina called a timeout with 42.7 left in regulation. The score was Edina 55, St. Louis Park 54.

Edina came up with shots late in the game. St. Louis Park continued to put defensive pressure on Edina.

I thought that both teams played well throughout the game. Both teams were evenly matched.

Edina came away with the 58-54 victory over St. Louis Park.

The leading scorers for St. Louis Park were Mayfield with 18 points, Doherty with 14 points and Whitlock with 10 points.

The leading scorers for Edina were Nelson with 18 points, Middleton with 13 points, and Haff with 10 points.

EDINA WENT UP AGAINST MINNETONKA IN A BOYS’ FOOTBALL GAME

On Oct. 6, Edina and Minnetonka squared off in a football game. Both teams were 5-0 going into the game.

Edina kicked off to Minnetonka to start the game. Minnetonka looked to get into the end zone early. Minnetonka scored a touchdown on a run by Adam Livingston for a 2-yard gain. The extra point was good by Grant Altman.

With 6:36 left in the first quarter the score was Minnetonka 7, Edina 0.

On the next drive Edina took over on their own 34-yard line. Edina got a touchdown with 4:00 left on clock with a 58-yard touchdown run by Matt Cavanagh. The extra point was good.

With 4:00 left in the first quarter the score was tied at 7.

Minnetonka kept the ball on the ground and looked to get into the end zone late in the first quarter.

After one quarter of play the score was tied at 7.

Minnetonka’s quarterback Aaron Syverson came up with big runs. The Edina defense stepped up and stopped the Minnetonka offense. Minnetonka punted on 4th-and-long.

Edina took over on their own 1-yard line. Edina moved the ball field. Minnetonka’s Nehemiah Montague came up with an interception. Minnetonka took over on their own 22-yard line. Minnetonka punted on 4th down.

Edina looked to the air to get the receivers the ball. Edina got a touchdown on a 4-yard by Nick Bloom. The extra-point attempt was blocked.

With 51 seconds left in the second quarter the score was Edina 13, Minnetonka 7.

Minnetonka looked to get the ball down the field as quickly as they could. Minnetonka’s Daniel Viger came up with huge receptions late in the second quarter. Minnetonka’s Viger came up with an 18-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.

With 18.5 left in the second quarter the score was Minnetonka 14, Edina 13.

Edina took over on their own 32-yard line. Edina got the ball into the hands of Matt Cavanagh. On 4th-and-inches Anders Nelson came up with a 55-yard reception. The two-point conversion was good as Nick Suedbeck came up with it.

With 10:04 left in the third quarter the score was Edina 21, Minnetonka 14.

On the next drive Minnetonka’s Viger came up with 44-yard touchdown reception. The extra point attempt was good.

With 9:41 left in the third quarter the score was tied at 21.

Edina got the ball back near midfield. The Minnetonka defense stepped up on 4th down as Edina elected to punt.

Minnetonka took over on their own 14-yard line. Minnetonka used both the running and passing attacks in the third quarter. Minnetonka punted on 4th down.

Edina got a touchdown on a Ryan Meyer 25-yard run.

With 4:00 left in the third quarter the score was Edina 27, Minnetonka 21.

Minnetonka got the ball back on their own 49-yard line. Viger came up with another big reception that got the ball on the 23-yard line. Minnetonka’s Aaron Syverson had huge passes to his receivers.

After three quarters of play the score was Edina 27, Minnetonka 21.

Minnetonka’s Adam Livingston came up with a 2-yard touchdown run. The extra-point attempt was good.

With 10:35 left in the fourth quarter the score was Minnetonka 28, Edina 27.

Edina took over on their own 27-yard line. Edina kept moving the ball down the field, Anders Nelson came up with receptions in traffic. Nelson could keep his feet moving as he looked to come up with yards after the tackle.

Edina took a timeout with 6:02 left in the fourth quarter. The score was Minnetonka 28, Edina 27.

Edina’s Matt Cavanagh looked to chew up turf as he was dragged by defenders.

Minnetonka took a timeout with 3:21 left in the fourth quarter. The score was Minnetonka 28, Edina 27.

Edina was intercepted by Raheem Brown. Minnetonka took over on the 5-yard line.

Edina called a timeout with 2:27 left in the fourth quarter. The score was Minnetonka 28, Edina 27.

Minnetonka punted on 4th down. Edina took over on the 46-yard line.

Edina looked to get into the end zone with less than a minute to go in the game.

Minnetonka came away with the 28-27 victory over Edina.

EDINA WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 25, Edina and Minneapolis South squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Both teams pushed the ball down the floor and score layups in transition early. 

South got everyone involved in the offense. They passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to take time off the clock.

South made layups in transition. Edina went to a full court man-to-man press and looked to trap the ball the first chance that they could. They wanted to make it difficult for South to make shots.

Edina’s Derek Graf came up with layups and slam dunks in the paint. He called for the ball while his teammates fed him the ball in the paint. Teammate Matt Hofrenning came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He took the ball to the basket and made layups as well.

Edina called a timeout with 10:19 left in the first half. The score was South 14, Edina 8.

South trapped the ball and that created Edina to turn the ball over. South could score off the turn overs. 

Edina wasn’t afraid to take deep 3-point shots. Even though they didn’t go in everyone rebounded and had the chance to get the ball.

Edina looked to get the ball into the hands of guard Walt McGrory. McGory dove hard to the basket and made layups and mid-range jump shots.

Edina made a lot of cuts and passes on the offensive end. Everyone on the Edina offense touched the ball. Edina also communicated well on both ends of the floor.

Neither team went on a huge run in the first half. Neither team gave up an uncontested shot.

South called a timeout with 3:25 left in the first half. The score was South 24, Edina 22.

Both teams attacked their basket late in the first half. Edina came up with 3-point shots late in the first half.

At halftime, the score was Edina 34, South 26.

As the second half got underway both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and attacked the basket.

Edina continued to get the ball into the hands of Anders Nelson and Derek Graf both took the ball to the basket and made their shots.

South struggled shooting the ball to open the second half. Even though they struggled they didn’t get frustrated.

South called a timeout with 15:43 left in regulation. The score was Edina 43, South 29.

South did a good job of passing and cutting looking for the open man. The defensive pressure that Edina applied made it difficult for South to come up with an open look at the basket.

McGrory came off screens and made layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could make it. On the defensive end, he slowed down the guy he was guarding.

South called a timeout with 10:34. The score was Edina 55, South 37.

Edina came up with steals and turned them into steals on the offensive end.

South played hard throughout the game. Even though South struggled shooting the ball they kept on shooting.

Edina came away with the 94-71 victory over South.

The leading scorers for Edina were Nelson with 29 points and Hofrenning with 25 points.

The leading scorers for South were Kevin Holler with 13 points, Curtis Jones and Demetrius Gladney each with 12 points.

WAYZATA WENT UP AGAINST EDINA IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Wayzata and Edina squared off in a boys’ basketball game on Jan. 31. Edina pushed the ball down the floor as they looked to score layups in transition. 

It took a while for each team to get their shots down. Neither team could hit a shot to start the game. They passed the ball around the 3-point line looking for their shots. 

Wayzata attempted to take deep 3-point shots, but they had trouble making them early.

Wayzata called a timeout with 9:56 left in the first half. The score was Wayzata 5, Edina 3.       

Both teams attacked the basket as they looked to take mid-range jump shots and layups. 

The defensive pressure that both teams applied made it difficult for the other team to take uncontested shots. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the first half. Neither team went on a huge run. 

Wayzata went to a trapping defense as they wanted to turn Edina over. They could turn them over. 

Edina’s Walt McGory came up with deep 3-point shots and layups late in the first half. 

At halftime, the score was Wayzata 28, Edina 25. 

As the second half got underway Edina continued to push the ball down the floor and made layups. 

The score remained close late in the game. Neither team gave the other team an open look at the basket. 

Wayzata called a timeout with 9:44 left in regulation. The score was Edina 36, Wayzata 35.

Wayzata went to a zone defense. That made Edina pass the ball around the 3-point line and take time off the clock.
Wayzata kept attacking the basket and came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. Wayzata’s Jacob Beeninga and Gavin Baumgartner both knocked down shots to keep them in the game.

Edina called a timeout with 6:59 left in regulation. The score was Wayzata 45, Edina 39. 

McGory stepped up and knocked down deep 3-point shots. His teammates did a good of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

Edina called a timeout with 3:20 left in regulation. The score was Edina 51, Wayzata 50. 

Both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to score layups in transition. 

Wayzata called a timeout with 1:41 left in regulation. The score was Edina 53, Wayzata 50. 

Wayzata went to a full court press as they wanted to make it difficult for Edina to get an open look at the basket. 

In a game that was close throughout, Edina came away with the 56-54 victory over Wayzata. 

The leading scorers for Wayzata were Beninga and Baumgartner both with 17 points. 

The leading scorer for Edina was McGory with 17 points.

EDINA WENT UP AGAINST ORONO IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Edina and Orono squared off against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Orono got the ball into the hands of Ryan Biehn. Biehn made mid-range jump shots and layups.

There were several ties and lead changes early. Then with 8:00 left in the first half Orono strung shots together and they dropped.

Edina called a timeout with 6:55 left in the first half. The score was Orono 27, Edina 19.

The score continued to go back and forth throughout late in the first half.

The Orono offense got going late in the first half.

At halftime, the score was Orono 42, Edina 36.

As the second half got underway Edina continued to get the ball into the hands of Walt McGrory, McGrory came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. If he wasn’t open, he was able to get the ball into his teammates’ hands.

Edina’s Anders Nelson got hot in the second half. He stepped up and knocked down mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Edina’s shots kept dropping with 11:00 minutes left in regulation. McGrory dropped some big shots in the second half. Him and Nelson kept Edina in the game.

There were several ties and lead changes throughout the second half.

Nelson and McGrory both knocked down mid-range jump shots and layups late in the game.

Orono called a timeout with 1:55 left in regulation. The score was Edina 74, Orono 68.

Edina moved the ball well late in the game. They came away with the 80-71 victory over Orono.

The leading scorers for Edina were Nelson and McGory each with 22 points.

The leading scorer for Orono was Bjorland with 18 points.

EDINA WENT UP AGAINST MINNETONKA IN A GIRLS’ SECTION SEMIFINAL BASKETBALL GAME

On March 5, Edina and Minnetonka squared off in a girls’ basketball game. It was the section semifinal in Section 2 Class 4A. The game was played at Hopkins High School. 

The game started out quick as each team was able to make layups. Minnetonka did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.

Edina called a timeout with 9:54 left in the first half. The score was Minnetonka 12, Edina 8.

Edina played a zone defense in the first half. They wanted to force Minnetonka to take deep 3-point shots. 

Minnetonka swung the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to get the ball inside. They used a motion offense. They were able to make hard screens and did a good job of talking to each other.

Minnetonka’s Cortney Fredrickson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot it.

Edina called a timeout with 4:17 left in the first half. The score was Minnetonka 25, Edina 11.

Minnetonka was able to slow Edina down on the fast break. Minnetonka was patient on the offensive end.

At halftime the score was Minnetonka 30, Edina 22.

Edina started out quick in the second half. They were able to score baskets quickly in transition.

Both teams fought hard as they dove on the floor after loose balls and battled over rebounds.

Edina got their offense going in the second half. They were able to get everyone involved in the offense and were able to come up with shots.

Minnetonka called a timeout with 9:54 left in regulation. The score was Minnetonka 45, Edina 37.

Edina kept attacking the basket as Annika Jank was able to make layups in transition. On the defensive end Jank was able to slow down the person she was guarding.

Edina called a timeout with 6:53 left in regulation. The score was Minnetonka 50, Edina 41.

Edina was able to turn Minnetonka over and come up with baskets off the turnovers. 

Edina called a timeout with 4:56 left in regulation. The score was Minnetonka 53, Edina 46. 

Minnetonka looked to take time off the clock as they were able to rotate the ball along the 3-point line getting everyone involved in the offense. 

Minnetonka came away with the 68-56 victory over Edina. 

The leading scorers for Edina were Jank with 16 points and Olivia Caughlin with 13 points. 

The leading scorers for Minnetonka were Allen with 17 points, Fredickson with 15 points and Lizzie Odegard with 12 points.

ROBBINSDALE ARMSTRONG WENT UP AGAINST EDINA IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On January 16 Robbinsdale Armstrong and Edina squared off in a boys basketball game.

Armstrong looked to get the ball into the hands of Race Thompson. Thompson took the ball hard to the basket as he looked to make layups and mid-range jump shots.

Edina looked to score baskets in transition. Edina used a man-to-man defense. They didn’t want Armstrong to get easy looks at the basket.

Armstrong struggle to shoot the ball in the first half. Armstrong’s Jubie Alade made layups as he was able to come off of picks.  Teammate Race Thompson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Edina’s Will Moreton was able to get his shot going early. He was able to make jump shots and layups. The defense had a hard time slowing him down.

Edina called a timeout with 6:06 left in the first half. The score was Edina 27, Armstrong 14.

Moreton stepped up and knocked down deep 3-point shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

At halftime the score was Edina 49, Armstrong 25.

As the second half got underway Edina continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

Armstrong struggled to shoot throughout the game. Edina was quicker than Armstrong. Edina’s Moreton was all over the floor. The defense couldn’t slow him down.

Edina wasn’t afraid to shoot deep 3-point shots in the second half.

Alade was all over the floor. He came up with huge mid-range jump shots and layups.

Armstrong called a timeout with 6:24 left in regulation. The score was Armstrong 51, Edina 72.

Armstrong was able to come up with shots late in the game.

Armstrong was overmatched throughout the game.

Edina came away with the 91-62 victory over Armstrong.

The leading scorer for Edina was Moreton with 41 points.

The leading scorer for Armstrong was Alade with 25 points and Thompson 13 points.

CHAMPLIN PARK WENT UP AGAINST EDINA IN A BASKETBALL GAME

Champlin Park and Edina squared off against each other in a basketball game in the Minnetonka Fall League.

The score went back and forth early. Both teams went after loose balls on both ends of the floor.

Champlin Park did a good job of swinging the ball around the 3-point line and getting everyone involved in the offense.

Champlin Park was all over the boards on the offensive end. They were able to get rebounds and make layups off the rebounds.

Champlin Park did a good job of setting the tempo of the games. They took time off the clock as they got everyone involved in the offense.

At halftime the score was Edina 31, Champlin Park 25.

As the second half got underway Edina continued to push the ball down the floor and make baskets in transition.

Champlin Park was able to get steals and come up with layups off traps.

The Edina defense was able to slow down Champlin Park on offense.

Edina played zone defense throughout the second half. They were able to force Champlin Park to take deep 3-point baskets.

Champlin Park struggled to score in the second half.

Edina came away with the 56-37 victory over Champlin Park.  
 

MOUNDS VIEW WENT UP AGAINST EDINA IN A ROUND OF 32 FOOTBALL GAME

Mounds View and Edina went up against each other in a Round of 32 football game. Mounds View kicked off to start the game. 

Edina took over on their own 23-yard line. Edina used both the running and passing attack on their first drive. Edina’s Doma Morris came up with a short run for a first down. The Edina offense stalled out and they had to punt on 4th-and-3 they faked the punt and ran a running play but the defense stepped up.

Mounds View took over on their 41-yard line. They were not able to come up with a first down and they punted. 

Edina took over on their own 14-yard line. Edina’s Brock Boltmann looked to get the ball into his hands and was able to get past the defenders. Boltmann came up with a 27-yard touchdown pass to Julien Ramboz who came up with reception. The extra-point attempt was good.

Mounds View took over on their own 37-yard line. Mounds View was picked off by Pema Lhewa. Edina couldn’t move the ball and they punted on 4th-and-5.

The Edina defense stepped up big as they slowed down the Mounds View offense. Mounds View punted on 4-and-13.

Edina took over on their own 32-yard line. Boltmann was able to get the ball to his teammates as he knew where they were on the field. On 4th-and-12 Edina punted the ball. 

Mounds View looked to try to confuse the Edina defense. The Edina defense came up with some big plays that slowed down the Mounds View offense. Mounds View’s Luke Swenson came up with a 2 yard reception that resulted in a touchdown. The extra-point attempt was no good.

With 53.3 seconds left in the second quarter the score was Edina 7, Mounds View 6.

Edina fumbled the ball and Mounds View recovered the ball. Mounds View looked to keep the ball on the ground. Edina’s Pericles Angelos came up with an interception. 

At halftime the score was Edina 7, Mounds View 6. 

Edina kicked off to start the third quarter. Mounds View couldn’t move the ball down the field and they had to punt the ball on 4th-and -9.

Edina’s Parker Rickert came up with a 32-yard reception. Evan Holm came up with a huge reception that brought the ball to the 8-yard line. 

After three quarters of play the score Edina 7, Mounds View 6.

On fourth and goal and they were not able to come up with a first down.

Mounds View took over on the 4-yard line. Mounds View didn’t move the ball down the field and on 4th-and-5 they punted. 

Edina took over on the 15-yard line. Rickert came up with a 25-yard reception. 

Holm came up with a 44 yard touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.

With 3:37 left in the fourth quarter the score was Edina 14, Mounds View 6.

Mounds View took over on their own 45-yard line. Mounds View turned the ball over on downs. 

Edina looked to take time off the clock late in the fourth quarter. 

Mounds View took over for one last chance with 1:38 left in the game. Holm intercepted the ball and scored on a 58-yard run. The extra point attempt was good.

That made the score 21-6; that was the final of the game.

EDINA AND MAPLE GROVE WENT UP AGAINST EACH OTHER IN A BASKETBALL GAME

Edina and Maple Grove went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Edina pushed the ball down the floor and came up with baskets in transition. 

Maple Grove used a zone defense as they looked to spread the Edina offense out. They wanted to make Edina shoot deep 3-point baskets. 

Both teams traded baskets in the first half. There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the first half. 

Maple Grove attacked the basket and were able to get layups inside. 

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. It was a very physical game. 

At halftime the score was Maple Grove 27, Edina 17. 

As the second half got underway Edina moved well without the ball. They were able to make shots they weren’t hitting in the first half. 

Neither team went on a run in the second half. The game came down to the wire. 

Maple Grove came away with the 48-46 victory over Edina.

EDINA WENT UP AGAINST OSSEO IN A BASKETBALL GAME

Edina and Osseo squared off in a basketball game. Osseo looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

 

Osseo scored layups in transition and off fast breaks. They were a little quicker than Edina. Edina looked to use the cross court passes to get the ball down the floor. They were picked off by Osseo or went out of bounds.

 

Osseo’s Allan Anderson ran his team’s offense. He got everyone involved in the offense and if he thought that he had a good shot he would take it.

 

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run.

 

Osseo used both zone and man-to-man defense.

 

Edina came up with some fast break layups as they looked to get the ball out of the net on the defensive end and move the ball down the floor.

 

At halftime the score was Osseo 36, Edina 33.

 

The score continued to go back and forth in the second half. Both teams played very good defense.

 

Neither teams got an uncontested shot.

 

The game came down to the wire. It was hotly contested.

 

Osseo came up with the 68-62 victory over Edina.

EDEN PRAIRIE WENT UP AGAINST EDINA IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Oct. 26 Minnetonka High School was the spot for a boys’ basketball fall league. Eden Prairie went up against Edina.

Edina’s Max Lynch was all over the floor. He called for the ball on the offensive end. Lynch did a good job of hitting mid-range jump shots.

It took a while for Eden Prairie to get into an offensive rhythm. They couldn’t get their shots to fall.

Both teams continued to look to get shots that they could hit.

At halftime the score was Edina 22, Eden Prairie 17.

As the second half got underway Edina continued to look to get the ball down the floor.  They did a good job of passing the ball around the three-point line and taking their time on the offensive end.

The Edina offense went stagnant for a period of time as they had trouble making shots that they put up.

Eden Prairie got hot midway through the second half. They were able to string together baskets on the offensive end and were slowed down Edina on the offensive end.

Eden Prairie kept attacking the basket as they were able to come up with some big shots in the second half.

Eden Prairie came away with the 45-44 victory over Edina.

EDINA WENT UP AGAINST DELASALLE IN A FOOTBALL GAME

Edina kicked off to start the game. DeLaSalle’s Isaac Hodge caught the kickoff. DeLaSalle started on their own 29 yard line. DeLaSalle looked to keep the ball on the ground on their first drive.

Quarterback Billy Hart was able to get his receivers as they were able to come up with first downs. On fourth-and-five DeLaSalle punted the ball but Edina fumbled and DeLaSalle recovered it.

DeLaSalle was able to march down the field and pick up first downs. James King Jr. was able to keep his feet moving and come up with big plays. King Jr. caught an 11-yard touchdown pass. The extra-point by Sam Peters was good.

With 7:49 left in the first quarter the score was DeLaSalle 7, Edina 0.

The kick went into the end zone for a touchback. Edina got the ball on their 20 yard line. Edina was able to get the ball into the hands of Charlie Black. Edina went long and Black came up with a one-handed catch.

Edina called a timeout with 3:30 left in the first quarter. The score was DeLaSalle 7, Edina 0.

Edina’s Kyle Fowlkes was able to get some good yards as he got by the DeLaSalle defense. Patrick LeCorre attempted a 41-yard field goal which was good. With 1:28 left in the first quarter the score was DeLaSalle 7, Edina 3.

Hodge came up with a nice return and the DeLaSalle offense started on their own 34 yard line. Hart came up with a seven-yard run. King Jr. came up with a 20-yard run. Atkins Jr came up with a huge reception for a touchdown. The extra-point attempt was good.

With 33.3 seconds left in the first quarter the score was DeLaSalle 14, Edina 3.

Teammate Marquise Bridges came up with another big catch to set up a three-yard touchdown run by Hart.

With 7:43 left in the second quarter the score was DeLaSalle 20, Edina 3.

Edina got the ball near midfield. Fowlkes came up with a touchdown reception.

With 6:47 left in the second quarter the score was DeLaSalle 20, Edina 9.

DeLaSalle continued to try to move the ball down the field. DeLaSalle punted on fourth-and-four.

There was no reception. Edina put a string of short pass plays together as they looked to move the ball down the field.

DeLaSalle called a timeout with 3:47 left in the second quarter. The score was DeLaSalle 20, Edina 9.

DeLaSalle took over after a fake punt. They used different passing and running plays as they looked to try to confuse the defense. DeLaSalle did a good job of switching up what they were going to do. King came up with a nice reception which gave his team a first down. Hodge came up with a 15-yard touchdown reception. The extra-point attempt was no good.

With 1:57 left in the second quarter the score was DeLaSalle 26, Edina 9. That was the score at halftime.

DeLaSalle kicked off to start the third quarter. Edina started off on their own 34 yard line. Edina punted the ball.

DeLaSalle was intercepted by Black. Edina got the ball on DeLaSalle’s 24 yard line.

Edina called a timeout with 7:36 left in the third the score was DeLaSalle 26, Edina 9.

Edina got into the red zone and they looked to score midway through the third quarter. On fourth-and-two Edina went for it but the defense came up big and stopped the offense from coming up with a touchdown.

DeLaSalle took over on the three yard line. DeLaSalle continued to look for ways to move the ball down the field. Marquise Bridges came up with a nice reception as he was able to pick up another first down.

DeLaSalle turned the ball over on downs.

With 1:22 left in the third quarter the score was DeLaSalle 26, Edina 16. That was the score after three quarters of play.

Edina kept on looking to get the ball down the field as they went into their offensive bag of tricks.

The DeLaSalle defense didn’t bite however as they were able to come up with defensive pressure.

Rickert scored a touchdown on a 10-yard run. The extra-point attempt was blocked.

With 10:38 left in the fourth quarter the score was DeLaSalle 26, Edina 22.

DeLaSalle got the ball deep in their zone and they kept the ball on the ground as Bridges was able to get past the defenders. Edina’s Rickert Intercepted a pass and ran it into the end zone for a touchdown.

The extra-point attempt was good.

With 9:29 left in the fourth quarter the score was Edina 29, DeLaSalle 26.

DeLaSalle tried to get their offense going after it sputtered throughout the third quarter. Once again King came up with some key receptions throughout the fourth quarter that kept the offense on the field. King and Hodge both stepped up late in the game. They knew when the ball was going to be thrown to them and called for it. Bridges came up for a touchdown. The extra-point attempt was good.

With 7:04 left in the fourth quarter the score was DeLaSalle 33, Edina 29.

Edina kept on attacking the DeLaSalle defense. They were not able to penetrate the gaps in the defense late in the contest. Edina punted the ball on fourth-and-11. There was no return.

DeLaSalle moved the ball down the field as they looked to the end zone again. DeLaSalle turned the ball over on downs.

In a fast entertaining game DeLaSalle came away with the 33-29 victory over Edina.
