EDEN PRAIRIE WENT UP AGAINST EAGAN IN THE CLASS AA GIRLS’ STATE SOCCER FINALS

Eden Prairie and Eagan went up against each other in the class AA state finals in the girls’ tournament.

It took a while for each of these teams to get used to each other. Both teams did a good job of getting after the ball.

Eagan’s Jade King did a good job of getting to the ball. If King thought that she had a clear shot on goal she would shoot it.

The Eden Prairie offense did a good job of getting the ball down the field. 

Eagan’s King found the back of the net as she scored a goal with 14:26 left in the first half.

With 14:26 left in the first half the score was Eagan 1, Eden Prairie 0. 

Both teams were evenly matched. There were many penalties throughout the first half.

Eagan’s goalkeeper Jordyn Clark came up with some huge saves late in the first half. 

At halftime the score was Eagan 1, Eden Prairie 0. 

As the second half got underway both teams continued to go after the ball.

There were many collisions as both teams went after the ball throughout the game. Multiple players had to get helped off the field. No one got hurt seriously however. 

Eagan came away with the 1-0 victory over Eden Prairie to win the class AA state girls soccer championship.

ANOKA TOOK ON WAYZATA IN THE STATE CLASS AA FINALS OF THE SOCCER TOURNAMENT

Anoka and Wayzata went up against each other at St. Cloud State University in the Class AA finals of the Minnesota State High School League’s championship game.

Wayzata looked to move the ball quickly down the field.

Both teams played tough on the defensive end. They both went after the ball. Neither team got an easy open shot on goal early in the first half of the game.

Anoka had chances to score in the last 20 minutes of the first half.

Wayzata found the back of the net on an Arthur Parens goal with 13 minutes left in the first half.

With 13 minutes left in the first half the score was Wayzata 1, Anoka 0.

Wayzata continued to attack the goal late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Wayzata 1, Anoka 0.

As the second half got underway Anoka was on the offensive as they did all they could to try to get the ball into the goal.

Anoka’s Joshua Dobler scored a goal with 36:39 left in regulation. With Dobler’s goal that tied the score at 1.

Both teams continued to attempt to score goals midway through the second half. They each had chances.

Both teams were able to get to the ball as they were able to gain control of the ball.

The game was tied at 1 after regulation.

As the overtime period got underway both teams continued attack the net. Both teams were evenly matched throughout game.

No one scored in the first overtime period. There was a second overtime period.

As the second overtime got underway both teams kept on doing what they were good at, attacking the goal.

Neither team was able to score in either of the overtime periods.

Anoka’s Mchael Torbort won the game in the shootout.

Anoka came away with the 1-0 shootout victory.

With the 1-0 victory Anoka won the class AA boys’ soccer state title.

ORONO TOOK ON MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN IN THE GIRLS STATE CLASS A FINALS OF THE SOCCER TOURNAMENT

Orono and Minneapolis Washburn went up against each other in the Minnesota State High School League’s class A girls state title game.

Washburn did a good job of moving the ball down the field. They looked to keep the ball out of the Orono’s zone.

Washburn had good looks at the goal in the first half.

Both of these teams went after each other. They both knew where to put the ball so the other team couldn’t get it. Washburn talked to each other on the field and knew where everyone was on the field.

The Orono defense was strong. They didn’t let Washburn get open shots on goal.

Orono took advantage of their corner kicks and free kicks as they had chances to score in the first half.

Orono’s Sophie Babo was all over the field. She did a good job of bringing the ball down the field.

Babo did a good job of getting the ball to her teammates.

Washburn’s Morgan Cottew had a shot on goal late in the first half but was not able to get a goal.

At halftime the score was tied at 0.

As the second half for underway Washburn continued to move the ball down the field well as they looked to weave between the Orono’s defenders.

The ball moved back and forth throughout the second half. Both teams did a good job of attacking the net.

Goalkeepers Orono’s Jessica Woessner and Washburn’s Taylor Cottew came up with some nice saves throughout the second half.

With 25:25 left in regulation Babo was injured on a slide tackle which drew a yellow card. Babo was taken off the field on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital by ambulance.

As play resumed after the injury timeout both teams continued to attack the net.

Orono continued to get good looks at the goal.

The game was scoreless after regulation.

Washburn’s Maya Rajacich dribbled the ball down the field and had a great shot on goal but

Woessner came up with a save.

Neither team was able to score a goal in the first overtime period.

There was another 10 minute overtime period.

Washburn had their chances in the second overtime period.

Both teams gave it everything that they had throughout the entire game.

The game was tied at 0 after both overtime periods. The game went into the penalty kicks.

Penalty kicks was the best out of five. Orono won the game 1-0 on Claire Bash penalty kick.

With the 1-0 victory over Minneapolis Washburn Orono won the girls’ class A state tournament.

ST. CLOUD APOLLO WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS DeLaSALLE IN THE STATE BOYS’ SOCCER CLASS A CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

On Oct. 30 St. Cloud Apollo went up against Minneapolis DeLaSalle in the boys’ state soccer championship game.

DeLaSalle was known for their defense while Apollo is known for their offense. DeLaSalle did a good job of keeping the ball in the middle of the field.

The Apollo offense did a good job of attacking the goal. Apollo midfielder Leighton Lommel was all over the field. He was able to get good looks at the goal.

Both teams did a good job of attacking the net. Both goalkeepers did a good job of defending their goals.

Apollo’s Cooper Gray came up with some big saves throughout the first half. Teammate Abdifatah Abdule was all over the field. He was able to get his teammates the ball in spots where he thought that they could score. If Abdule thought that he had a good shot on goal he would shoot it.

Apollo did a good job of attacking the goal throughout the first half. DeLaSalle goalkeeper Will Hagg did a good job of getting saves throughout the first half.

At halftime the score was St. Cloud Apollo 0, DeLaSalle 0.

As the second half got underway DeLaSalle continued to look to attack the net.

Both teams continued to go after the ball. DeLaSalle’s Eli Baker used his head as he looked to pass the ball with his head to his teammates.

St. Cloud Apollo Leighton Lommel scored with 13:28 left in regulation on a free kick.

With 13:28 left in regulation the score was St. Cloud Apollo 1, DeLaSalle 0.

Lommel was all over the field. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could get good looks on goal.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. DeLaSalle gave everything that they had. St. Cloud Apollo came away with the 1-0 victory over DeLaSalle.

With the 1-0 victory St. Cloud Apollo won the class A state boys championship title.  

HILL-MURRAY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN IN A GIRLS SOCCER GAME

Hill-Murray and Minneapolis Washburn squared off in a girls’ state semifinal soccer game.

Hill-Murray looked to attack the goal early in the first half.

Washburn was able to keep the offensive pressure on the Hill-Murray defenders. Both teams went after the ball. Neither team was able to take open shots at the net.

Both teams played well throughout the first half.

At halftime the score was tied at 0.

As the second half got underway the defensive pressure applied by both teams continued to make it difficult to get open shots on the net.

Washburn’s Elisabeth Stout scored a goal with 14:50 left in the second half.

With Stout’s goal that score was Washburn 1, Hill-Murray 0.

Washburn continued to attack the net despite being up 1-0 late in the second half.

Washburn’s Lydia Ruppert scored a goal with 7:14 left in regulation. With Ruppert’s goal that made the score Washburn 2, Hill-Murray 0.

With 2:03 left in regulation Washburn’s Morgan Cottew goal by going one-on-one with the goal keeper and she kicked the ball from 45 yards out

Hill-Murray was not able to get on the board. Washburn came away with the 3-0 victory.

Washburn has not given up a goal since Aug. 28th and that continued through the semifinals as they came away with the 3-0 victory over Hill-Murray.

PARK CENTER TOOK ON ORONO IN THE MSHSL GIRLS STATE CLASS A SEMIFINALS IN SOCCER

Park Center and Orono squared off in a girls state semifinal soccer game. Park Center looked to move the ball quickly down the field as they wanted to attack the Orono defenders.

Orono did a good job of communicating with each other as they looked for scoring chances in the first half.

Park Center goaltender Emily Nelson came up with some big saves in the first half. The defenders also did a good job of getting the ball away from the Orono offense.

With 11:35 left in the first half Orono’s Carly Hewitt scored a goal with the assist going to Sophie Babo.

With that goal that made the score Orono 1, Park Center 0.

There was a large scrum out in front of the Park Center goal. As a result with 6:58 left in the first half Orono scored again on a direct free kick by Babo. 

With that goal that made the score Orono 2, Park Center 0.

Both teams continued to move the ball down the field. 

At halftime the score remained Orono 2, Park Center 0. 

As the second half got underway both teams continued to move the ball down the field. 

Orono did a good job of attacking the Park Center defenders. Orono was a little quicker than Park Center. Park Center did get after the ball and was able to attack the net but Orono’s goalkeeper Jessica Woessner did a good job of blocking the ball.

With 22:42 left in regulation Orono’s Babo scored another goal. With Babo’s goal that made the score Orono 3, Park Center 0.

Orono continued to move the ball well down the field. They did a good job of keeping the ball away from Park Center. 

Orono’s Alexandra Rusciano scored a goal. With 17:43 left in regulation the score was Orono 4, Park Center 0. 

Orono’s Babo was all over the field and played well throughout the game.

Orono came away with the 4-0 semifinal victory over Park Center.

After the game Babo said that Park Center played a physical game. We prepared well. I thought that my teammates played to the best of their ability and am so proud of the fans and how the game turned out”.

CHASKA WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS DELASALLE IN A BOYS’ SOCCER GAME

Chaska and Minneapolis DeLaSalle went up against each other in the class A state soccer semifinals.

DeLaSalle did a good job of getting the ball down the field. They moved without the ball and were able to get everyone involved in the offense.

Both teams were all over the field. DeLaSalle did a good job of getting quality shots on goal in the first half.

It was a defensive battle throughout the first half. At halftime the score was tied at 0.

As the second half got underway both teams continued to look for scoring chances.

Both teams looked evenly matched on the field.

DeLaSalle’s Christopher Riera scored a goal with 28:16 left in the second half. With that goal that made the score DeLaSalle 1, Chaska 0. Riera seemed to just tap the ball in from just a few feet from the goal.

With 21:33 left in the second half Chaska’s Joshua Prater scored a goal with an assist by Ramiro Gomez. With Prater’s goal that tied the score at 1.

Both teams continued to look to get the ball down the field and score goals.

The game was tied at 1 after regulation. There was a 10 minute sudden death overtime period.

DeLaSalle’s Michael Wageman scored with 33 seconds left in the first overtime on a header to win the game.

With Wagneman’s goal made the score DeLaSalle 2, Chaska 1. That was the final of the game.

Wageman said after the game that, “We wanted it more, we have been working hard all year. First time at state. Coach Adams motivating us on the bench. The fans came out to support us at state, we battled hard. The bench pushed us hard.”

Riera said, “Knew game was going to be tough, Goal boosted our energy.”

MANKATO WEST TOOK ON ST. CLOUD APOLLO IN THE STATE BOYS’ SOCCER SEMIFINALS

On Oct. 29 St. Cloud State University was the site for the boys’ and girls’ state soccer tournament. In the first game Mankato West went up against St. Cloud Apollo.

Mankato West did a good job of getting the ball down the field. They talked to each other and knew where they were on the field.

Apollo did a good job of attacking the net. The Mankato West team did a good job of communicating to each other to let them know where they were on the field.

Mankato West’s goalie Tyler Defor came up with some nice saves.

At halftime the score was tied at 0.

St. Cloud Apollo’s Leighton Lommel came up with a goal with 32:06 left in the second half.

With that goal that made the score was St. Cloud Apollo 1, Mankato West 0.

St. Cloud Apollo’s goalie Cooper Gray came up with a nice diving save with just over 23 minutes on a penalty kick.

St. Cloud Apollo came away with the 1-0 victory over Mankato West.

After the game Lommel said that the St. Cloud, “Fans were awesome, playing at state is incredible, the field was great and was wondering where they were playing when they tore down the Metrodome”. Lommel also said, “We have to stay solid on the defensive to come away with a victory in the championship game.”

CENTENNIAL TOOK ON EAGAN IN A GIRLS STATE SOCCER SEMIFINAL GAME

Centennial and Eagan squared off in a girls’ soccer game. Centennial moved the ball down the field quickly in the first half.

Both teams did a good job of getting to the ball down the field.

The defenses stepped up as there was very little scoring chances in the first half.

Both teams were evenly matched throughout the first half. Neither team was quicker than the other.

With 2:55 left in the first half Eagan’s Sydney Flannery scored a goal on a free kick from 40 yards away. With that goal that made the score Eagan 1, Centennial 0. That was the score at halftime.

As the second half got underway Eagan continued to move the ball down the field.

Centennial was able to get some shots on goal but Jordan Clark came up with some nice saves.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. In the end Eagan came away with the 1-0 victory over Centennial.

EDEN PRAIRIE WENT UP AGAINST LAKEVILLE NORTH IN A GIRLS SOCCER GAME

Eden Prairie and Lakeville North squared off against each other in the Minnesota State High School League semifinals of the girls’ soccer state tournament.

Both teams attacked the net as they looked to move the ball down the field as they wanted to score goals.

Eden Prairie’s April Bockin scored a goal with 20:09 left in the first half.

With Bockin’s goal that made the score Eden Prairie 1, Lakeville North 0.

Lakeville North tried to get the ball down the field but the Eden Prairie’s defense made it difficult for them to do that.

At halftime the score was Eden Prairie 1, Lakeville North 0.

As the second half got underway, Eden Prairie’s Naomi Rogge scored a goal with 29 minutes left in regulation.

With that goal that made the score Eden Prairie 2, Lakeville North 0.

Eden Prairie continued to move the ball well down the field. Lakeville North was not able to get their offense going.

Eden Prairie came away with the 2-0 victory over Lakeville North.

WAYZATA WENT UP AGAINST EAST RIDGE IN A BOYS’ STATE SOCCER GAME

Wayzata and East Ridge went up against each other in the semifinals of the Minnesota State High School Leagues tournament.

Wayzata did a good job of moving the ball down the field. 

Wayzata’s Lewis O’Connor scored a goal with 26:38 left in the first half.

With that goal that made the score Wayzata 1, East Ridge 0. 

Wayzata continued to move the ball well down the field. They were quick on their feet and were able to dribble the ball past the East Ridge defenders.

After one half of play the score was Wayzata 1, East Ridge 0.

As the second half got underway Wayzata continued to look to get the ball down the field.

Wayzata’s Clayton Smith found the goal with 32:53 left in the second half.

East Ridge continued to look for scoring chances but they were not able to find the back of the net.

Wayzata came away with the 2-0 victory over East Ridge.

ANOKA WENT UP AGAINST MAPLE GROVE IN A BOYS’ SOCCER GAME

St. Cloud State University was the site of the 2014 Minnesota State High School League state soccer tournament.

Anoka and Maple Grove squared off in the semifinals of the 2014 Class AA state boys’ soccer tournament.

Both teams did a good job of getting the ball down the field. Maple Grove was a very physical team.

They did a good job of going after the ball.

With 16:45 left in the first half Anoka’s Conner Hudalla scored a goal on a direct free kick.

With that goal that made the score Anoka 1, Maple Grove 0.

Anoka kept on going after the ball and looking to score another goal.

Both teams did a good job of keeping the ball moving up and down the field. Nobody gave up on the ball.

At halftime the score was Anoka 1, Maple Grove 0.

As the second half got underway Maple Grove continued to move the ball down the field. They did a good job communicating with each other and letting them know where they were supposed to be on the field.

Maple Grove had chances to score midway through the second half.

Maple Grove’s Ben Zaver scored a goal with 13:05 left in regulation. With Zaver’s goal that tied the score at 1.

The score was tied at 1 after the end of regulation.

As the overtime period got underway Anoka’s Lencho Ahmed came up with a huge shot on goal but missed to the right.

There was no scoring in the first overtime period.

With 7:35 left in the second overtime Anoka’s Felipe Genchi scored the game-winning goal.

Anoka came away with the 2-1 overtime victory over Maple Grove.
