ST. PAUL HIGHLAND PARK WENT UP AGAINST BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 25, St. Paul Highland Park and Bloomington Kennedy went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game, Highland Park had a record of 11-13, while Kennedy had a record of 6-18.  

Highland Park looked to push the ball down the floor and set the tempo early.   

Kennedy looked to push the ball down the floor and get his teammates involved in the offense. He moved quickly down the floor and got his teammates the ball in spots where he could shoot it.  

Highland Park also moved quickly down the floor as they looked to get past the Kennedy defense.  

Kennedy’s Lamarrius Starr was all over the floor. He could get to the basket and make mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. Teammate Sonte Lajeunessee-Wood came up with jump shots and layups throughout the first half.  

Highland Park called a timeout with 9:11 left in the first half. The score was Kennedy 31, Highland Park 16.  

Highland Park continued to push the ball down the floor and attack the basket.  

Starr continued attacking the basket and coming up with shots.  

Both teams got after it in the first half. Neither team gave up an uncontested shot.  

At halftime, the score was Kennedy 54, Highland Park 37. 

As the second half got underway, both teams continued to push the ball down the floor.  

Highland Park’s Yared Yohannes came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.  

Kennedy’s Malik Johnson came up with big mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half.  

Kennedy used their quickness to get past the Highland Park offense. Everyone got into the offense. They talked on both ends of the floor.  

Kenndey called a timeout with 6:31 left on the clock. The score was Kennedy 69, Highland Park 56. 

Highland Park came up with stops and turned them into layups on the offensive end.  

Kennedy came away with the 81-75 victory over Highland Park. The leading scorer for Highland Park was Yared Yohoness with 27 points. 

The leading scorers for Kennedy were Lajeunesse-Wood with 19, Starr with 15 and Johnson with 14 points.  

BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY WENT UP AGAINST RICHFIELD IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 11, Bloomington Kennedy and Richfield went up against each other in a boys' basketball game. Going into the game Kennedy had a record of 5-14 while Richfield’s record was 16-4. The first time these two teams went up against each other Richfield came away with the 91-72 win on Jan. 9.

Richfield looked to push the ball down the floor early. Richfield looked to trap Kennedy as they brought the ball down the floor.

Richfield looked to get everyone involved in the offense as they passed the ball around the 3-point line. They were able to take time off the 35-second shot clock.

Kennedy’s Malik Johnson took the ball strong to the basket as he was able to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Richfield looked to get the ball into the hands of CJ Armstrong. Armstrong was all over the floor. He was able to get his teammates involved in the offense, and if he got a good look at the basket, he would pass it to one of his teammates.

Kennedy’s Sont Lajeunesse-Wood came up with deep 3-point shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Richfield used a zone defense. That made Kennedy swing the ball around the 3-point line.

Kennedy called a timeout with 9:50 left in the first half. The score was Richfield 24, Kennedy 18.

Richfield did a good job of clogging the lanes and creating spacing issues for Kennedy on offense.

Kennedy wasn’t afraid to shoot the deep 3-point shot or the mid-range jump shot. They got everyone involved in the offense.

Richfield’s Omar Whittaker came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He took the ball hard to the basket.

Kennedy’s Abdirahman Tushar came up with jump shots to keep his team in the game.

Kennedy called a timeout with 3:30 left in the first half. The score was Richfield 39, Kennedy 34.

Armstrong continued to come up with shots late in the first half.

Both teams continued to attack the basket late in the first half, looking for their shots.

At halftime, the score was Richfield 55, Kennedy 38.

As the second half got underway, both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets.

Johnson continued to take the ball strong to the basket and looked to score baskets in transition. He had a good sense of knowing where his teammates were on the floor at all times.

Richfield took a lot of time off the shot clock early in the second half.

Kennedy switched between a man-to-man defense to a zone defense multiple times throughout the second half.

Kennedy struggled shooting throughout the game. Even though they struggled to shoot the ball, they didn’t give up on themselves and fought hard throughout the game.

Richfield called a timeout with 5:39 left in regulation. The score was Richfield 102, Kennedy 57.

Both teams played hard late in the game, but Richfield was too much for Kennedy. Richfield came away with the 106-67 victory over Kennedy.

The leading scorers for Kennedy were Johnson with 18 points, Bush with 12 points, Lajeunesse-Wood with 10 points and Aaron Bachanan with 9 points. And the leading scorers for Richfield were Armstrong with 25 points, Hagler with 21 points and Collins with 20 points.

JEFFERSON WENT UP AGAINST KENNEDY IN THE BATTLE OF BLOOMINGTON

On Dec. 12, Bloomington Jefferson went against Bloomington Kennedy in a boys’ basketball game. Jefferson came into the game with a record of 1-2, while Kennedy came in with a record of 0-2. 

Both teams tried to set the tempo early as the game got underway. Kennedy looked to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition. 

Both teams started the game in a man-to-man defense. Both teams attacked the basket. 

Jefferson called a timeout with 15:30 left in the first half. The score was Kennedy 7, Jefferson 0. 

Jefferson’s Isaac Feller came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He was able to call for the ball and also got his teammates involved in the offense. 

Jefferson took a lot of time off the 35-second shot clock. They passed the ball around the 3-point line, getting everyone involved in the offense. 

Kennedy started the game out in a man-to-man defense. They made it difficult for Jefferson to get an open look at the basket. 

Kennedy’s Malik Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates knew where he was on the floor as they could get the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

Kennedy did a good job of communicating with each other on both sides of the floor. 

Kennedy called a timeout with 11:14 left in the first half. The score was Kennedy 12, Jefferson 6. 

After a slow start from Jefferson, they started to get their offense going. Feller took the ball strong to the basket as he wasn’t afraid of a little incidental contact from the defense. 

Jefferson called a timeout with 9:40 left in the first half. The score was Kennedy 17, Jefferson 12. 

Jefferson took their time on the offensive end. They were quick to take shots. Their offense got going after the timeout. 

Jefferson’s Marcus Horton came to life late in the first half. His mid-range jump shots and layups began to fall, and that provided his team with an offensive spark.

Jefferson went to a full-court press, and they were able to disrupt Kennedy as they looked to get steals. 

Kennedy’s D’andre Moffit came up with deep 3-point shots. His teammates were not afraid to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot the ball. Teammate Keymarey Jackson also stepped up and knocked down deep 3-point shots. 

At halftime, the score was Kennedy 32, Jefferson 25. 

As the second half got underway, Kennedy’s Delannie Bush came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He looked to push the tempo of the game. 

Jefferson’s Feller and Horton kept coming up with baskets that kept Jefferson in the game. They fed off each other's energy. 

Kennedy came out of the half a little flat. They were not making shots that they were putting up. 

Kennedy called a timeout with 14:12 left in regulation. The score was Kennedy 39, Jefferson 36. 

The game remained close in the early part of the second half. Neither team gave up uncontested shots. 

Jefferson took much time off the 35-second shot clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line. They were able to get everyone involved in the offense. 

Neither team went on a big run in the second half. It was a very competitive game. 

Kennedy called a timeout with 10:15 left on the clock in regulation. The score was tied at 41.

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the second half. 

Both teams look for cross-court passes in transition and to come up with layups on the offensive end. 

Jefferson got their offense going midway through the second half. They kept on attacking the basket and coming up with shots. 

Kennedy missed some baskets midway through the second half. They couldn’t get a stop on the defensive end. 

Jefferson called a timeout with 7:19 left in regulation. The score was Jefferson 53, Kennedy 47.

The game remained close late in the second half. 

Kennedy’s Sonte Lajeunesse-Wood came up with mid-range jump shots and layups down the stretch. 

Kennedy called a timeout with 2:24 left in regulation. The score was Jefferson 61, Kennedy 56.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. Jefferson took the lead midway through the second half. 

Kennedy didn’t back down as they fought hard throughout the game. 

Jefferson called a timeout with 50.6 seconds left in regulation. The score was Jefferson 63, Kennedy 59. 

Both teams kept battling down the stretch as neither gave up an uncontested shot. 

Jefferson came away with a 67-61 victory over Kennedy.  The leading scorers for Jefferson were Horton with 33 and Feller with 14.  The leading scorers for Kennedy were Bush with 16 points and Johnson with 13 points.

BROOKLYN CENTER WENT UP AGAINST HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 30 Brooklyn Center and Holy Angels went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. The game was played at Holy Angels. There was not a roster available either at the game or online through multiple sites for Brooklyn Center.  

Both teams started out in a zone defense. Holy Angels looked to push the ball down the floor in transition. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 16:49 left in the first half. The score was Brooklyn Center 4, Holy Angels 0.  

Brooklyn Center used a lot of time off the clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line.  
It took a while for each team to figure the other team out. Holy Angels used time off the clock. 

Holy Angels' Anderson Stark got his teammates involved in the offense by passing the ball to his teammates.  

Holy Angels' Daniel Davine came up with layups in transition. He knew where his teammates were on the floor and his teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.  

Brooklyn Center called a timeout with 8:37 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 16, Brooklyn Center 10.  

Holy Angels' Adryan Miller made layups in transition that kept them in the game.  

Brooklyn Center called a timeout with 5:52 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 23, Brooklyn Center 11.  

Holy Angels came up with steals late in the first half and turned them into layups on the offensive end. 

Holy Angels came up with shots late in the first half. They were able to slow down the Brooklyn Center offense late in the half. 

At halftime, the score was Holy Angels 38, Brooklyn Center 21.  

As the second half got underway both teams looked to push the ball down the floor and look for baskets in transition.  

Nixon continued to come up with shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 14:57 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 41, Brooklyn Center 25.  

Brooklyn Center looked to trap Holy Angels when they passed the half-court line. Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls.  

Brooklyn Center continued to struggle shooting the ball throughout the second half. Even though they struggled shooting they kept on shooting the ball.  

Holy Angels called a timeout with 4:40 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 60, Brooklyn Center 46.  

Both teams played hard throughout the game, and neither team gave up. Holy Angels was quicker than Brooklyn Center.  

Brooklyn Center called a timeout with 1:58 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 64, Brooklyn Center 52.  

Brooklyn Center came up with baskets late in the game that kept them in the game. 

Brooklyn Center called a timeout with 49.7 seconds left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 66, Brooklyn Center 57.  

Holy Angels kept attacking the basket, looking for shots.  

Brooklyn Center called a timeout with 23 seconds left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 66, Brooklyn Center 59. 

Holy Angels came away with a 69-61 victory over Brooklyn Center in a hard-fought, well-played game.  

BLOOMINGTON KENNEDY WENT UP AGAINST HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 12, Bloomington Kennedy and Holy Angels went against each other in a boys’
basketball game. Kennedy had a record of 0-4 going into the game. Holy Angels had a record of 0-3. This was the first game that I have been able to get to in a while due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Holy Angels is coached by new head coach Troy Bell, who is an alumnus of Holy Angels who graduated in 1999.

New this year is the addition of the 35-second shot clock in high school basketball.

Holy Angels started the game out in a zone defense. Kennedy passed the ball around the 3-point line. Everyone on Kennedy touched the ball on the offensive end.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 16:46 left in the first half. The score was Kennedy 2, Holy Angels 0.

Kennedy started the game in a man-to-man defense. They talked to each other a lot on the defensive end.

Holy Angels looked to push the ball down the floor in transition. Holy Angels Nate Ritz stepped up and knocked down 3-point shots early. Teammate Devine Damian also stepped up and knocked down mid-range jump shots and lay-ups.

Holy Angles went to a 3-quarter court press as they wanted to pressure the Kennedy guards while they were bringing the ball down the court.

Kennedy guard Marlon Sheehan Jr got his teammates the ball in spots where he thought they could make shots. Teammate Mailk Johnson also took the ball strong to the basket and came up with layups.

Kennedy switched up between full-court press and half-court defense. Kennedy looked to take a lot of time off the shot clock as they looked for their shots. They looked for their shot around 15 seconds left on the shot clock.

Kennedy’s LAmarrius Starr picked up his second personal foul with 9:06 left in the first half. He was subbed out of the game at that point.

Both teams looked for jump shots in transition.

Holy Angels Blake Nixon came up with deep 3-point shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where they knew he could shoot it.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. There were multiple jump balls in the first half.

Kennedy called a timeout with 4:46 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 19, Kennedy 12.

Devine called for the ball in the low post and was able to come up with lay-ups late in the first half.

Kennedy’s Sonte Lajeunesse-Wood came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. He did well calling for the ball and knowing where he was on the floor.

At halftime, the score was Holy Angels 28, Kennedy 18.

As the second half got underway both teams continued to attack the basket. Stark came up with steals and converted them into layups on the offensive end.

Kennedy struggled shooting the ball early in the second half. Even though they struggled, they kept on shooting.

Johnson and Lajeunesse-Wood kept Kennedy in the game. They were very vocal on both ends of the floor.

Ritz stepped up in the second half and kept on coming up with shots.

Starr wasn’t afraid of contact. He could draw the foul as he drove to the basket and came up with free throws.

Holy Angels looked to trap the ball in the full court as they looked to turn Kennedy over.

Kennedy called a timeout with 10:56 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 38, Kennedy 33.

Kennedy’s offense got hot mid-way through the second half. Johnson got hot and stepped up with some key shots.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 8:53 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 38, Kennedy 36.

Kennedy passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to time off the shot clock.

The score went back and forth with under 7 minutes left in regulation. Neither team went on a substantial run.

Johnson got hot from behind the 3-point line late in the game. He wasn’t afraid to step up and knock down shots.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 5:22 left in regulation. The score was Kennedy 50, Holy Angels 42.

Kennedy came up with steals late in the game and they were able to convert on the offensive end.

Kennedy called a timeout with 3:34 left in regulation. The score was Kennedy 56, Holy Angels 44.

Both teams played well. Kennedy pulled away with just under six minutes left in regulation.

The Kennedy offense went quiet with three minutes left in regulation.

Holy Angels played hard throughout the game they were able to cut the deficit to 3 with just under 40 seconds left in regulation.

Holy Angles Andrew Muller came up with a layup with 17 seconds left in the game when Holy Angels called a timeout. The score was Kennedy 57, Holy Angels 55.

Kennedy came away with the 59-55 victory over Holy Angels.

2014 GRASSROOTS NATION ALL STAR GAME

On June 22, Concordia University in St. Paul, Minn. was the spot for the 2014 Grassroots Nation All Star basketball game. There were four different teams. The games were 16 minutes.

HUSTLER NATIONS VS EASTSIDAZ

 

Both teams pushed the ball down the floor looking to score baskets in transition.  Eastsidaz' Quinton Jackson hit deep three-point shots. His teammates got the ball to him behind the three-point line.

Both teams looked to make ally-oop slam dunks.

 

Each team looked to go one-on-one as both teams played man-to-man defense.

 

Hustler Nations' Cam Rundles and Jamar Diggs both came up with some nice mid-range jump shots.  Diggs was also not afraid to pass to teammate Stephon Williams who knocked down big shots throughout the game.

Eastidaz won the game by the final score of 50-44. 

AND1 VS SAM’S CLUB

Both teams got into a shooting rhythm early. Sam’s Club's Troy Bell shot the ball well from mid-range as he was able to get baskets on pull up mid-range jump shots. If Bell didn’t think that he could make a shot he passed it.

Bell and Sam’s Club was able to slow down And 1’s offensive productivity by guarding them.

Sam’s Club came up with fast-break layups. They did a good job of getting by the And1 defenders.

Sam’s Club came up with the 43-26 victory over And1.

CARTER NATION VS NEW JACK CITY

Carter Nation went up against New Jack City. New Jack City’s Renard Suggs stepped up and knocked down deep three-point shots early and often. Not to be outdone, Carter Nation was not afraid to take long distance shots.

 

New Jack City was able to push the ball down the floor, but they missed some key shots early.

 

Carter Nation came away with the 35-32 victory over New Jack City.

 

GOON SQUAD VS SAM'S CLUB

 

Goon Squad and Sam's Club went up against each other. Goon Squad came out on fire as they stepped up and knocked down three-point baskets.

 

The score went back and forth as neither team went on a run. Neither team was afraid to take deep three-point shots as the other team's defense would allow them to take deep shots.

 

Bell came up with some deep three-point baskets to keep his team in the game.

 

Williams kept his team in the game as he stepped up and continued to hit three-point baskets.

 

Neither team went on a run as the game remained close throughout.

 

Sam Club's David Hicks found the basket on wide-open layups.

 

The game was tied at 44 after regulation. There was a one minute over time period.

 

Bell came up with a layups in the overtime period and Goon Squad's Deanthony Taylor hit a deep three-point shot.

 

Goon Squad came way with the 49-47 victory over Sam's Club. 

 

GOON SQUAD VS HUSTLER NATION

 

Williams came out hot as he knocked down deep three-point shots. There were many long cross court passes as each team came up with fast break baskets.

 

There were many slam dunks as both teams had fast breaks.

 

The score went back and forth throughout the game. Neither team went on a run.

 

Goon Squad came up with some big baskets late in the game.

 

Both of these teams were having fun as they rested on the defensive end.

 

The score went back and forth late in the game and Hustler Nation came away with the 39-37 victory over Goon Squad.

 

AND 1 VS NEW JACK CITY 

 

The score went back and forth early in the contest. Neither team went on a run. New Jack City's Ben Glover came up with a one handed slam dunk that got his team energy.

 

Both teams showed off their dunking skills as both teams mostly shot open court layups and slam dunks.

 

In a game that had a lot of fast breaks and slam dunks and was close throughout New Jack City came away with the 36-31 victory over And 1.

 

EASTSIDAZ VS CARTER NATION

 

Eastsidaz went up against Carter Nation. Both teams came out launching deep three-point baskets. Both teams also looked to push the floor and make layups.

 

Eastsidaz came up with some big shots midway through the contest. Carter Nation kept shooting the ball even though they had trouble hitting shots.

 

Carter Nation had a difficult time scoring baskets as they were not able to hit shots they put up.

 

Eastsidaz cruised to an easy 43-21 victory over Carter Nation.  

 
Over all I thought it was a very fun event. The players enjoyed themselves and the fans did also.
 

ERROL CARLSTROM PLAYAZ TOOK ON PAT MADISON MAGIC IN THE HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE

In the second game on July 30, Errol Carlstrom Playaz went up against the Pat Madison in the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League.

 

Both teams came out swigging as they each pushed the ball down the floor looking for shots and not taking a lot of time off the shot clock.

 

Both teams exchanged baskets in the opening minutes of the contest. It took a while for each team get used to each other.

 

Tony Tate of Pat Madison took the ball hard to the basket. He was able to get through traffic and make contested difficult shots. He was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor.

 

There were many ties and lead changes throughout the first quarter. Neither team gave up easy basket.

 

Troy Bell got into the game late in the first quarter for Pat Madison Magic. He was all over the floor on both ends of the court.

 

After a quarter of play the score was Errol Carlstrom Playaz 25, Pat Madison 20.

 

The score went back and forth throughout the second quarter. Neither team gave up easy shots.

 

Bell got a technical foul for arguing a call.

 

Pat Madison continued to attack the basket and looked for their shots.

 

Tyler Cain for Errol Carlstrom Playaz was all over the floor. He was able to get his shot to fall. Cain was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor.

 

Pat Madison strung some baskets together late in the second quarter.

 

At halftime the score was Errol Carlstrom Playaz 49, Pat Madison 43.

 

The third quarter got off to a quick start as both teams rushed back and forth shooting shots.

 

Pat Madison got into a shooting slump in the third quarter. They were not able to make shots that they put up.

 

The Pat Madison players became frustrated because they could not hit shots that they put up. They didn’t give up however as they kept on shooting the ball.

 

Pat Madison looked to get fast break baskets as they settled for lay-ups. If they had an open jump shot they wouldn’t be afraid to shoot it. They were able to get within 4 points with 4:00 left in the third quarter.

 

The game was intense. Pat Madison clawed back and was competitive throughout the second half of the contest.

 

At the end of three quarters of play the score was Errol Carlstrom Playaz 79, Pat Madison 72.

 

Bell and Teddy Archer for Errol Carlstrom both got ejected for arguing calls at the beginning of the fourth quarter.

 

After everything calmed down we were back to playing basketball.

 

Pat Madison was not able to get the lead in the fourth quarter.

 

Errol Carlstrom came away with the 111-97 victory over Pat Madison.

SUTHERLAND RAIDERS TOOK ON PAT MADISON MAGIC IN THE HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE

In the second game on July 29, Pat Madison and Sutherland Raiders went up against each other.

 

The game got off to a quick start as each team pushed the ball down the floor. The defensive pressure that each team applied was very good as neither team gave up easy baskets.

 

There were many ties and lead changes throughout the first quarter.

 

Troy Bell for Pat Madison was all over the floor for his team. Bell knew where his teammates were on the floor and was able to get them the ball in sports where they could shoot it.

 

Pat Madison had trouble shooting the ball in the first quarter. Austin Hollins for Pat Madison was all over the floor. He was able to get to the basket and hit shots that he put up.

 

Both teams were aggressive on both ends of the floor.

 

After one quarter of play the score was Sutherland Raiders 31, Pat Madison 28.

 

Pat Madison did a good job of getting the ball out of the basket and getting the ball down to the other end of the floor if they were on defense. On the offensive end they were able to get the ball back to the net for second chance points.

 

The score went back and forth throughout the contest. Neither team went on a run or gave up easy baskets.

 

Both teams looked to trade baskets for a portion of time in the second quarter.

 

Trevor Mbakwe for Sutherland Raiders came up with some big slam dunks that kept the crowd into the game.

 

Pat Madison called a timeout with 4:54 left in the second quarter. At that point the score was Sutherland Raiders 45, Pat Madison 36.

 

DeAndre Townsend for Sutherland Raiders stepped up and nailed some deep three-point shots to keep his team in the game.

 

Pat Madison worked for their shots. Sutherland Raiders didn’t give them any easy looks at the basket.

 

When Townsend was not in the game he cheered on his team and shouted encouragement from the bench.

 

At halftime the score was Sutherland Raiders 61, Pat Madison 43.

 

As the third quarter got underway both teams continued to pound the ball down the floor and looking for quick shots.

 

Pat Madison continued to struggle from the floor throughout the third quarter.

 

Townsend continued to shoot good shots and he was not afraid to get his teammates the ball in spots where they could hit shots.

 

After three quarters of play the score was Sutherland Raiders 83, Pat Madison 60.

 

The game kept its intensity in the fourth quarter. Even though Pat Madison had trouble shooting the ball they kept on shooting the ball looking for their shots to drop.

 

Pat Madison fought hard throughout the game but they were not able to come away with the 110-88 victory.

 

Sutherland Raiders came away with the 110-88 victory over Pat Madison.

 

The leading scorers for Pat Madison were Troy Bell with 7 points, Jefferson Mason and Michael Campbell each with 12 points and Anthony Tolliver with 17 points.

 

The leading scorers for Sutherland Raiders were AJ Wilson with 15 points, DeAndre Townsend with 16, Wil Graham with 17, Trevor Mbakwe 19 points and Paris Kyles with 25 points.  

 

HPA TOOK ON PAT MADISON IN THE HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE

On July 22, HPA took on Pat Madison in a basketball game in the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League. Both teams looked excited to play as this game as it was the first game in the Pro City Summer League Playoffs.

 

The game got off to a quick start as each team raced up and down the court trading baskets.

 

Both teams were able to score layups at will in the first quarter.

 

Tyus Jones and Reid Travis had good communication skills on the floor. They knew where their teammates were and they were able to get each other the ball in spots where the other one could hit his shot.

 

There were many ties and lead changes throughout the first quarter.

 

Jarvis Johnson played well for HPA he knew where to shoot the ball from and he let the game come to him. Johnson did a good job of making his layups in traffic. He was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the floor.

 

Jones was all over the floor. He was able to get his teammates involved in the offense. Jones was also able to set the tempo of the game to his style.

 

Malik Smith for Pat Madison was all over the floor his team. He dove on the floor for loose balls and went after rebounds on both ends of the floor.

 

After a quarter of play the score was HPA 34, Pat Madison 27.

 

Pat Madison looked to push the ball down the floor as they looked to get fast break baskets. HPA did all they could to try to slow down Pat Madison on offense but they had trouble doing that.

 

Terry Campbell for Pat Madison took the ball hard to the basket as he was able to hit shots throughout the first half.

 

Antonio Tate for HPA did a good job of beating his defender off the dribble and taking the ball hard to the basket for layups.

 

Bjorn Broman for HPA came up with some nice baskets as he was able to weave his way past his defenders and get to the basket and make contested layups.

 

The score at halftime was HPA 52, Pat Madison 49.

 

As the third quarter got underway both teams continued to attack the basket.

 

Pat Madison swung the ball around the three-point line as they wanted to take time off of the shot clock. They were able to do that.

 

The score continued to go back and forth throughout the third quarter. There were many ties and lead changes in the third quarter.

 

After three quarters of play the score was HPA 79, Pat Madison 76.

 

Both teams continued to battle in the third quarter. Neither team gave up any easy shots.

 

The score went back and forth throughout the fourth quarter. Everyone went hard after loose balls and rebounds on both teams.

 

There were many fast break chances in the fourth quarter. Both teams were able to score on the fast breaks as the game came down to the wire.

 

The play got sloppy late in the contest. Both teams were getting tired but they didn’t panic.

Both teams got a little chippy late in the game as the intensity rose.

 

In a very intense game and a good game that came down to the wire Pat Madison came away with the thrilling 108-104 victory over HPA.

 

The leading scorers for Pat Madison were Michael Campbell with 27 points, Troy Bell and Jefferson Mason each with 20 points and Malik Smith with 14 points.

 

The leading scorers for HPA were Reid Travis with 40 points, Tyus Jones with 24 points and Jarvis Johnson with 9 points.

PAT MADISON TOOK ON INFORMATION INVESTORS IN THE HOWARD PULLEY PRO CITY SUMMER LEAGUE

On July 20, at the High Performance Academy in Eagan, Minn. Pat Madison and Information Investors went up against each other in the Howard Pulley Pro City Summer League game.

 

Information Investors started off the game with a 14-0 lead to start the game because the Pat Madison players were late. They started the game midway through the second quarter.

 

Troy Bell for Pat Madison brought the ball down the floor for his team. He was able to get his team involved in the offense.

 

Both teams went really into the game. They both looked sloppy and lack luster as well as going through the motions.

 

Darren Glover for Pat Madison took the ball hard to the basket.

 

At halftime the score was Information Investors 34, Pat Madison 28.

 

As the third quarter got underway Bell got his shot going. Bell stepped up and was able to knock down some high shots for his team. If Bell thought that his teammate had a better shot he would pass it to them and Bell then would get the assist.

 

Pat Madison took their time of the offensive end. They were able to use the shot clock to their advantage. As they were able to get shots that they were able to make.

 

Jefferson Mason for Pat Madison found his long ball shot in the third quarter as he was able to drop some three-point shots midway through the quarter. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball where he was able to hit shots.

 

Pat Madison hung on to the lead in the third quarter. Information Investors however attacked the basket and kept shooting the ball and hitting.

 

The score went back and forth throughout the later part of the third quarter. Neither team went on a run.

 

After three quarters of play the score was Information Investors 57, Pat Madison 55.

 

Bell continued to step up and knock down some big shots in the fourth quarter.

 

Information Investors got hot in the fourth quarter as they were able to knock down some quick baskets.

 

Both teams played hard and went after loose balls and rebounds.

 

Information Investors came away with the 85-81 victory over Pat Madison

 

Pat Madison would have won the game if they went subject to the 14 point deficit going into the game for players not showing up.

 

The leading scorers for Pat Madison were Jefferson Mason and Michael Campbell each with 25 points, and Troy Bell with 14 points.

 

The leading scorers for Information Investors were Xavier Crawford with 24 points, Alex Richter with 18 points and Darren Glover and Anthony Tucker each with 13 points.
