SMB TOOK ON HUTCHINSON IN 4A CLASS STATE FOOTBALL SEMIFINALS

SMB and Hutchinson went up against each other in a football game. The game was the semifinals of the Class 4A football tournament.

SMB kicked off to start the game. Hutchinson moved the ball down the field as they got the ball into the end zone. Hutchinson was intercepted by SMB’s Jalen Suggs.

Suggs was all over the field. He came up with receptions on both ends of the field.

SMB called a timeout with 5:05 left in the first quarter. The score was tied at 0.

SMB moved the ball down the field and Suggs was all over the field. On the offensive end, he was able to get the ball into his receiver’s hands. SMB punted on 4th down.

Hutchinson took over on their own 9-yard line.

Hutchinson called a timeout with 2:32 left in the first quarter. Hutchinson moved the ball down the field as they looked for first downs.

After one quarter of play, the score was tied at 0.

Hutchinson moved the ball down the field and looked to get into the end zone and Tyler Schiller came up with a 3-yard run for a touchdown. The two-point attempt was good.

With 8:29 left in the second quarter, the score was Hutchinson 8, SMB 0.

SMB moved the ball down the field again and Kaden Johnson came up with huge pass receptions. Johnson came up with a 7-yard touchdown reception. The two-point conversion was good.

With 7:12 left in the second quarter, the score was tied at 8.

Hutchinson moved the ball down the field again as they looked to spread the ball out around the field. Hutchinson moved the ball down the field again but the SMB defense stepped up and slowed the offense down. Hutchinson punted on 4th-and-9.

SMB’s Suggs fumbled the ball and Hutchinson got the ball back on their own 48-yard line. Hutchinson was once again on the move down the field.

Hutchinson called a timeout with 2:37 left in the second quarter. The score was tied at 8.

On 4th-and-5 Hutchinson punted the ball.

SMB took over on its own 6-yard line. SMB moved the ball down the field again as they looked to move the ball down the whole field. SMB was picked off by Joey Croatt.
 

At halftime, the score was tied at 8.

Hutchinson kicked off to start the third quarter. SMB moved the ball down the field again and Suggs got the ball and was all over the field. Suggs was able to get away from the defenders and get first downs. Suggs kept the ball and was able to get down the field.

SMB called a timeout with 6:26 left in the third quarter. The score was tied at 8.

SMB was intercepted and Hutchinson looked to move the ball down the field and looked for a first down. 

After three quarters of play, the score was tied at 8.

Suggs intercepted the ball and ran 48-yards for a first down. The ball was played on the Hutchinson 35-yard line. SMB looked to get into the end zone early in the fourth quarter.

Suggs found Thomas for a 24-yard touchdown reception. The two-point conversion was good.

With 9:33 left in the fourth quarter, the score was SMB 16, Hutchinson 8.

Hutchinson moved the ball down the field again as they looked to get into the end zone late in the fourth quarter. Hutchinson’s Russell Corrigan came up with a 15-yard run for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was good.

With 5:17 left in the fourth quarter, the score was SMB 16, Hutchinson 16.

SMB took over on its own 36-yard line. SMB moved the ball down the field again as they looked to get the ball into the end zone. 

SMB called a timeout with 1:01 left in regulation. The score was tied at 16.

SMB looked to get into the end zone late. Savion Robbinson came up with a 14-yard reception for a touchdown. The two-point conversion was not good.

With 50 seconds left in the fourth quarter, the score was SMB 22, Hutchinson 16. 

Hutchinson took over on their own 29-yard line.

Hutchinson called a timeout with 34 seconds left in regulation. The score was SMB 22, Hutchinson 16.

Hutchinson continued to push the ball down the field.

SMB came away with the 22-16 victory over Hutchinson.

THIEF RIVER FALLS WENT UP AGAINST HUTCHINSON IN THE CLASS 3A GIRLS’ STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT

On March 15, Thief River Falls and Hutchinson squared off in a girls’ basketball state Class 3A game.

Thief River Falls started the game in a zone defense. They wanted to spread Hutchinson out and make them take deep 3-point shots.

Thief River Falls did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. 

The defensive pressure that Thief River Falls applied made it difficult for Hutchinson to make shots that they put up.

Hutchinson called a timeout with 7:05 left in the first half. The score was Thief River Falls 15, Hutchinson 4.

Thief River Falls continued to come up with layups and mid-range jump shots late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Thief River Falls 27, Hutchinson 23. 

As the second half got underway Thief River Falls attacked the basket and came up with layups and jump shots. 

Hutchinson also came up with huge shots as they were able to close the deficit. 

There were many ties and lead changes midway through the second half. 

Hutchinson continued to push the ball down the floor and make mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Neither team went on a huge run late in regulation. 

Thief River Falls came away with the 61-59 victory over Hutchinson.

DELANO AND HUTCHINSON WENT UP AGAINST EACH OTHER IN A SEMIFINAL OF THE MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE’S STATE TOURNAMENT

Delano took on Hutchinson in a Class 3A Minnesota State High School League’s state football tournament.

Delano kicked off to Hutchinson to start the game. Hutchinson turned it over and gave Delano the ball. Delano’s Toby Hanson got the ball and he was able to get by the defenders as he ran for a 35-yard touchdown.
 
The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 9:52 left in the first quarter the score was Delano 7, Hutchinson 0.
 
Hutchinson looked to get into the end zone midway through the first quarter.  Hutchinson found the end zone on a two-yard run by Jayden Fleck. The extra point attempt was good.
 
With 4:52 left in the first quarter the score was tied at 7.
 
Delano also kept the ball on the ground. The Hutchinson defense stepped up big and was able to slow down the Delano offense.
 
Hutchinson’s Jake Wendland caught a 13-yard pass from Marcus Hahn for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good with 9:59 left to go.
 
That made the score Hutchinson 14, Delano 7.
 
Hutchinson found the end zone again on an 80-yard run by Hahn. The extra point was good.
 
With 4:12 left in the second quarter the score was Hutchinson 21, Delano 7. That was the score at halftime.
 
Both teams struggled to move the ball in the third quarter. They both used a lot of clock up but they were not able to get a lot of yardage.
 
With 4:23 left in the third quarter Delano scored on a safety.
 
After three quarters of play the score was Hutchinson 21, Delano 9.
 
Hutchinson found the end zone on a 19-yard run by Troy Adams. The extra point was good.
 
With 9:39 left in regulation the score was Hutchinson 28, Delano 9.
 
Hutchinson continued to pound the ball down the field. Hahn found the end zone on a 17-yard run. The extra point was good.
 
With 7:08 left to go in regulation the score was Hutchinson 35, Delano 9.
 
Hutchinson was too much for Delano to handle. Hutchinson played well and was able to get past the Delano defenders.
 
Hutchinson came away with the 35-9 victory over Delano.
 
After the game I talked to Hutchinson’s head coach Andy Rostberg and Adams and Hahn about the game and the season.

RICHFIELD TOOK ON HUTCHINSON IN A CLASS AAA STATE GIRLS SEMIFINAL BASKETBALL GAME

The Richfield Spartans who came into the state semifinal game with a record of 26-4 took on the Tigers of Hutchinson who had a record of 26-3 going into the game. The game took place at the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis.

It was off to the races early in this one as both teams looked to race up and down the court as each team looked to score easy baskets in transition.

Richfield looked to get the ball into the hands of Jessica January. January was a quick 5'7 guard with great court awareness. She knew where her teammates were on the floor and distributed the ball well.

Hutchinson tried to keep an up tempo pace. Hutchinson started out in man-to-man defense. They didn't want to give up any easy baskets.

At the first media timeout with 11:58 left in the first half the score was Richfield 10 and Hutchinson 6.

Richfield went to a zone defense after the timeout. Hutchinson made Richfield pass the ball around the three-point line as they were able to take away the middle of the floor.

At the second media timeout with 8:39 left in the first half the score was Richfield 14 and Hutchinson 10.

January was all over the floor. Her teammates were able to get here the ball from everywhere on the floor.

At the third media timeout with 5:11 left in the first half the score was Richfield 20 and Hutchinson 13.

Both teams looked to push the ball in transition. Richfield was able to hit shots in transition. The Tigers didn't back down. They kept on looking for their shots late in the half.

Richfield was able to pick off some of the Hutchinson passes and they were able to turn them into points on the offensive end.

The Hutchinson offense went stagnant late in the half as they were not able to hit shots.

At halftime the score was Richfield 26 and Hutchinson 13. The bench was a non-factor for each team as neither bench scored any points.
Hutchinson started the second half in a zone defense. They were successful in the zone defense throughout the first half.

At 14:36 left in the second half there was a media timeout. The score was Richfield 29 and Hutchinson 15.

Hutchinson came alive after the timeout as they stepped up and hit a few mid-range jump shots. Hutchinson went to a zone defense. They wanted to slow down the Richfield offense.

At the 10:39 left in the second half there was a media timeout. The score was Richfield 29 and Hutchinson 20. Hutchinson looked to chip away at the deficit. They made Richfield earn every shot that they put up.

Hutchinson got the ball into the hands of Alissa Retterath. Retterath was aggressive and shot the ball from mostly inside the paint.

Hutchinson was not able to bounce back. Richfield was able to come away with the 45-28 victory over Hutchinson.

The leading scorer for Hutchinson was Alissa Retterath with 13 points. Hutchinson shot 10-34 from the field that included going 3-11 from behind the three-point line. They were 5-10 from the free-throw line. They brought down a total of 32 rebounds including 25 on the defensive end.

The leading scorer for Richfield was Jassica January with 23 points. Richfield shot 17-47 from the field that included going 0-5 from behind the three-point line. They were 11-19 from the free-throw line. They brought down 29 rebounds including 20 on the defensive end.

CENTENNIAL TOOK ON HUTCHINSON IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

Centennial took on Hutchinson in a boys' basketball game. Centennial came into the game with a record of 4-1. Hutchinson record was 1-4.

Hutchinson looked to set the tempo in the game. They looked to get the ball into the hands of Jacob Shimpa. Shimpa did a good job of running the offense. He knew where his teammates were supposed to be and called out plays.

The score went back and forth. Both teams took their time trying to figure out what the other team was going to do.

Hutchinson called a timeout with 10:23 left in regulation. The score was Centennial 24 and Hutchinson 15.

Jared Nelson for Centennial stepped up and knocked down some three point shots. He was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court.

Hutchinson used a zone defense and they looked to spread Centennial out on the offensive end.

Centennial went on a run late in the first half. Hutchinson didn't panic. They continued to pass the ball around the three point line as they looked for their shots.

At halftime the score was Centennial 38 and Hutchinson 27.

Centennial looked to get the ball into the hands of Mitchell Kuck. Kuck was all over the floor. When he got the ball he would shoot it and more than likely it would go in. They were also able to get the ball into the hands of Jared Nelson who was not afraid to shoot it.

Hutchinson got everyone in the offense. Everyone was able to take the ball to the basket.

Centennial went on a run midway through the second half. Hutchinson had a hard time hitting their shots.

Centennial came away with the 71-53 victory over Hutchinson.

The leading scorers for Hutchinson were Nicholas Hauer with 12 points, Zachary Miner with 10 points and Phillip Kuball with 9 points. Hutchinson shot 18-52 from the field . That included going 8-19 from behind the three-point line. They were 9-12 from the free throw line.

The leading scorers for Centennial were Mitchell Kuck with 26 points and Jared Nelson with 23 points.
Centennial shot 28-56 from the field. That included going 7-16 from behind the three-point line. They were 8-12 from the free throw line.
