MINNEAPOLIS EDISON WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 15, Minneapolis Edison and Minneapolis North squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Edison started the game in a zone defense. North started in a man-to-man.

Edison looked to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.

North got everyone involved in the offense. They passed the ball around the 3-point line and everyone called for the ball.

Edison’s Jermaine Cornell looked to shoot mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

North called a timeout with 14:29 left in the first half. The score was North 5, Edison 4.

Both teams looked to set the tempo and push the ball down the floor and take quick shots.

There were multiple ties and lead changes early.

North’s Eli Campbell and Omar Brown came up with steals and were able to turn the turnovers into layups on the offensive end. Campbell was also able to knock down 3-point shots.

The defensive pressure that North applied made it difficult for Edison to get an open look at the basket.

Edison started off hot but midway through the first half they struggled shooting the ball.

North’s Willie Wilson got his teammates involved in the offense. He knew where his teammates were on the floor. If Wilson thought, he had an open look at the basket he wasn’t afraid to shoot it.

North was able to come up with steals on the defensive end and turn them into layups on the offensive end.

Edison called a timeout with 8:12 left in the first half. The score was North 24, Edison 13.

Campbell continued to take and make mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half.

Edison’s Roosevelt Lett was their offensive power. Lett came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball where he could get good looks at the basket.

Edison made long full court passes but they were unsuccessful and that resulted in turnovers.

North called a timeout with 3:39 left in the first half. The score was North 41, Edison 28.

North continued to push the ball down the floor and make layups in transition.

Edison also got baskets late in the first half.

At halftime the score was North 51, Edison 36.

As the second half got underway North continued to push the ball down the floor and looked for layups in transition.

Lett continued to make mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

North was quicker than Edison was. Edison wasn’t afraid to shoot the ball even though they struggled to shoot the ball.

North’s Davon Townley Jr. and Campbell both came up with big shots late in the game.

Edison couldn’t keep up with North’s quickness. North stepped up and made shots down the stretch.

North called a timeout with 5:58 left in regulation. The score was North 89, Edison 52.

North continued to push the ball down the floor.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. North was able to come away with the 93-54 victory over Edison.

HIGH SCHOOL FOR RECORDING ARTS WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS PATRICK HENRY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

High School For Recording Arts HSRA and Patrick Henry squared off in a boys’ basketball game.

HSRA got out to a quick start as Henry called a timeout with 15:41 left in the first half. The score was HSRA 15, Henry 3.

HSRA ran the floor well as they got everyone involved in the offense and got into an offensive shooting rhythm.

HSRA called a timeout with 12:28 left in the first half. The score was HSRA 22, Henry 10.

Henry attacked the basket but couldn’t get their shots to drop.

HSRA’s Louis McCaleb was all over the floor. On the offensive end he was able to make mid-range jump shots and layups.

Henry got hot midway through the first half. They were able to get steals on the defensive end and turn them layups on the offensive end.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls.

After a slow start by Henry, they stepped up and knocked down shot’s late in the first half.

Henry did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.

HSRA went to a zone defense and Henry passed the ball around the 3-point line to look for their shots.

At halftime the score was HSRA 44 Henry 40.

As the second half got underway both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and get shots up.

HSRA used their quickness to make fast break layups off steals.

HSRA called a timeout with 12:54 left in regulation. The score was HSRA 56, Henry 52.

Both teams took long 3-point shots and they went in.

The game got sloppy for a period of times were both teams were careless with the ball. That resulted in lots of turnovers.

HSRA got the ball into the hands of Nashaun Shackleton and Jacob Rembert who both came up with shots.

HSRA called a timeout with 9:55 left in regulation. The score was HSRA 62, Henry 59.

The game remained close late in the game. Neither team went on a run late.

Roosevelt stepped up and knocked down quick 3-point shots late in the game.

HSRA called a timeout with 2:20 left in regulation. The score was Henry 82, HSRA 76.

Henry’s Mark Cambell came up with deep 3-point shots late in the game.

Henry fought back after a slow start offensively and Henry came away with the 88-82 victory over HSRA.

The leading scorers for HSRA were Jacob Rembert with 23 points, Nashaun Shackleton with 11 points.

The leading scorers for Henry were Mark Cambell 12 points and Ronald Borquez with 11 points.

ST. PAUL WASHINGTON WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS SOUTH IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 21, St. Paul Washington and Minneapolis South squared off in a boys’ basketball game. The game was played at Roosevelt High School as part of the Martin Luther King Jr Classic.

South got off to a quick start as they got everyone involved in the offense early.

Washington called a timeout with 14:05 left in the first half. The score was South 9, Washington 1.

Washington swung the ball around the ball around the 3-point line looking for their shots. After a slow start by Washington, they found their shooting rhythm.

South called a timeout with 10:50 left in the first half. The score was Washington 11, South 10.

There were multiple ties and lead changes at that timeout. 

South’s Lukas Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Washington’s Zaveon Smith was all over the court. On the offensive end he stepped up and knocked down shots. On the defensive end he was able to slow the guy down he was guarding.

Washington called a time out with 11:48 left to go in regulation. The score was South 55, Washington 40.

South continued to push the ball down the floor and got layups in transition. South used their quickness to get past the Washington defenders.

Washington passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked for open 3-point shots. 

South called a timeout with 4:10 left in regulation. The score was South 72, Washington 56.

South was too much for Washington. South got everyone involved in the offense. South was quicker than Washington.

South came away with the 78-56 victory over Washington. 

The leading scorers for South were Joey Erickson with 21 points and Lukas Johnson with 12 points.

The leading scorers for Washington were Zaveon Smith with 28 points and Drew White with 15 points.

DULUTH EAST WENT UP AGAINST ROBBINSDALE COOPER IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Duluth East and Robbinsdale Cooper squared off in a boys’ basketball game. East raced down the floor as they were able to get everyone involved in the offense. 

East started the game in a zone defense. That made Cooper swing the ball around the 3-point line. That took time off the clock. 

It took Cooper a while to get into and offensive shooting rhythm. They were not able to make shots that they put up. 

East’s Will Van Scoy took the ball strong to the basket. He was able to make mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot. 

The defensive pressure that East put on Cooper made it difficult for Cooper to get open looks at the basket.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls on both ends of the floor. 

East’s Noah Paulson came up with rebounds on both ends of the floor. 

Cooper struggled to shoot the ball throughout the first half.

Cooper spent a lot of time swinging the ball around the 3-point line. They looked to get the ball inside to Damarri Bankhead who looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups. 

East called a timeout with 3:35 left in the first half. The score was East 32, Cooper 15.

East wasn’t afraid to take long 3-point shots. 

East continued to run their offense. 

At halftime the score was East 37, Cooper 19.

As the second half got underway Cooper continued to get to take the ball strong to the basket.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. 

Cooper’s Cam Vaughn came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Cooper struggled to shoot the ball throughout the game. Even though they were not able to make shots they were still taking them.

East called a timeout with 12:17 left in regulation. The score was East 45, Cooper 24.

Cooper couldn’t get their shots to fall. Even though they had a difficult time shooting the ball they still took shots.

East stayed in a zone defense throughout the second half. That made it difficult for Cooper to shoot the ball. 

East called a timeout with 5:02 left in regulation. The score was East 56, Cooper 41.

East was quicker than Cooper was. Cooper had trouble shooting the ball throughout the game. 

Cooper’s offense came to life late in the game. But that wasn’t enough. 

East called a timeout with 1:14 left in regulation. The score was East 61, Cooper 46. 

Cooper attacked the basket late but East came away with the 65-46 victory over Cooper. 

The leading scorers for East were Mattie Thompson and Noah Winesett each with 16 points. 

The leading scores for Cooper were Cam Vaughn with 9 points and Quincy Snoddy with 6 points.

HOPE ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS ROOSEVELT IN A GIRLS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Minneapolis Roosevelt was the place for the Martin Luther King Basketball Classic. In the first game it was Hope Academy against Minneapolis Roosevelt.

Hope started the game out in a zone defense. It took awhile for each team to get into a shooting rhythm. Hope swung the ball around the 3-point line to take time off the clock.

The score went back and forth early. Neither team went on a run at the start.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 14:04 left in the first half. The score was Hope Academy 4, Roosevelt 3.

Hope’s Abigail Carlisle came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. Her teammates were able to get her the ball in spots where she could make it.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 11:01 left in the first half. The score was Hope Academy 12, Roosevelt 5.

Even though Roosevelt struggled shooting the ball they kept on attacking the basket.

Hope Academy called a timeout with 6:29 left in the first half. The score was Hope Academy 19, Roosevelt 13.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. There were many jump balls in the first half.

Hope Academy called a timeout with 4:44 left in the first half. The score was Hope Academy 19, Roosevelt 15.

Roosevelt’s Maya Reichert-Giron came up with steals and turned them into layups on the offensive end. Roosevelt’s Jaida Walker also stepped up and knocked down deep three-point shots.

At halftime the score was Roosevelt 26 Hope Academy 20.

Hope Academy’s Ella Pritchard came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. The defense had a tough time slowing her down.

As the second half got underway both teams attacked the basket.

Hope Academy called a timeout with 16:16 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 28, Hope Academy 22.

The score went back and forth throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 12:01 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 32, Hope Academy 31.

Hope Academy went to a full court press. They looked to turn Roosevelt over and come up with layups off the turnovers.

As the second half wound down both teams played hard throughout the game. Neither team gave up.

Hope Academy called a timeout with 7:20 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 42, Hope Academy 39.

Roosevelt continued their full court press. They also looked to trap Hope Academy when they brought the ball across the mid court line.

Roosevelt called a timeout with 4:57 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 44, Hope Academy 41.

Both teams fought hard throughout the game. Neither team gave up or gave up easy baskets.

Hope Academy called a timeout with 2:54 left in regulation. The score was Roosevelt 48, Hope Academy 41.

Roosevelt kept on pushing the floor. Hope Academy ran out of gas late in the game.

Roosevelt came away with the 56-51 victory over Hope Academy.

The leading scorer for Hope Academy were Pritchard with 14 points and Carlisle with 11 points.

The leading scorers for Roosevelt were Jamelia Wright with 16 points and Precious Smith with 15 points.
