KIM ROYSTON NAMED HEAD ATHLETIC DIRECTOR AT MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST

Minneapolis Public Schools has hired Kim Royston who was Shakopee High School’s assistant athletic director to be the new athletic director at Southwest High School.

Royston worked in the Shakopee and Robbinsdale Area school districts. He spent the last school year 2017-18 with the Shakopee schools.

Royston replaces Ryan Lamberty, who was placed on administrative leave in the winter of 2018.

Royston was a high school football player at Cretin-Derham Hall, He played two seasons for the University of Minnesota Gophers after transferring from the University of Wisconsin Badgers in 2008.

TRENT TUCKER HAS BEEN HIRED AS THE HEAD ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OF THE MINNEAPOLIS CITY CONFERENCE

Trent Tucker has been hired as the new head Athletic Director of the Minneapolis city conference. Tucker replaces John Washington, who retired.

Tucker a shooting guard for the University of Minnesota from 1978-’82.  After college, Tucker was drafted No. 6 in the 1982 NBA draft by the New York Knicks. His pro basketball career spanned from 1982-’93, and in that time he played for three different teams: the Knicks (1982-’91), the San Antonio Spurs (1991-’92), and the Chicago Bulls (1992-’93).

 
During his career, Tucker scored 6,236 points (8.2 per game). He brought down a total of 1,520 rebounds (2.0 per game) and he dished out 1,532 assists a game (2.0 per game).
 

After his basketball retirement Tucker turned to the media world as he was a broadcast analyst for the Minnesota Timberwolves. He now works for KFAN radio and has his own sports radio talk show.
 
Tucker also works with KSTC 45 in the Twin Cities covering the boys' and girls' Minnesota State High School League basketball tournaments.

KELVIN TRENT TUCKER HAS BEEN HIRED AS THE HEAD ATHLETIC DIRECTOR OF THE MINNEAPOLIS CITY CONFERENCE

Kelvin Trent Tucker has been hired as the new head Athletic Director of the Minneapolis city conference. Tucker replaces John Washington who retired.

MINNEAPOLIS ATHLETICS DIRECTOR JOHN WASHINGTON TO RETIRE

The following is a statement regarding Minneapolis Athletic Director John Washington from Superintendent of Schools Bernadeia H. Johnson, Ed.D. 
 
"Please join me in congratulating Director of Athletics John Washington as he prepares to retire from Minneapolis Public Schools.
 
An alumnus of North High School, John has served the students and families of MPS for since 1969 in both academic and athletic areas. Much of his career was spent at Patrick Henry High School as physical education and health teacher, basketball and baseball coach, assistant principal and athletics director. He became MPS athletic director in 1996. John serves as a National Interscholastic Athletics Administration Association Delegate Member and Executive Committee Member, a member of the Minnesota State High School League (MNHSL) Foundation Board and MNHSL tournament manager for Region 5 Football and Region 6 Basketball.
 
John’s tenure as athletic director has included the successful consolidation of MPS hockey teams, the restructuring of MPS coaches’ pre- and post-season workshops into a format now used by other school districts across the country and the pursuit of the vision to provide every high school with artificial turf. He was also inducted into the Patrick Henry Hall of Fame.
 
In his retirement, John looks forward to spending time with his wife, Annamae, and their children and grandchildren.
