MINNEAPOLIS NORTH WENT UP AGAINST CENTRAL MINNESOTA CHRISTIAN IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 4, Minneapolis North took on Central Minnesota Christian in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game North had an overall record of 17-1 while Central Minnesota Christian’s record was 17-2. 

North received a technical foul in warm ups. CMC looked to push the ball down the floor and looked to score inside. 

North got the ball into the hands of Odell Wilson IV. Wilson came up with layups. North took a lot of time off the clock by passing the ball around to each other. 

CMC passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to run a motion offense. CMC’s Matthew Van Eps came up with layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could make shots. 

North’s Isaac Johnson took the ball strong to the basket and came up with layups. He could get past the CMC defense. 

CMC called a timeout with 11:22 left in the first half. The score was North 13, CMC 9. 

CMC looked to get the ball inside to Carter Henry. Henry came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

North’s Wilson received a technical foul for saying something. 

The defensive pressure that both teams played made it difficult for each team to take uncontested shots. 

North called a timeout with 7:47 left in the first half. The score was North 20, CMC 15. 

North’s Da’Koi Hines and Da’Kei Hines came off the bench and provided an offensive presence. They called for the ball when they were open and were not afraid to shoot the ball. 

CMC took most of their shots from inside the 3-point arch. If they though that they could make a 3-point shot, they shot it. 

North took a lot of time off the clock on the offensive end by passing the ball around to each other. CMC switched between man-to-man and a zone defense. 

CMC called a timeout with 3:35 left in the first half. The score was North 23, CMC 17. 

Isaac Johnson took deep 3-point shots. His teammates did a good job of rebounding on the offensive end. 

North called a timeout with 1:55 left in the first half. The score was North 25, CMC 20. 

Both teams took 3-point shots late in the first half. Neither team went on a huge run in the first half. 

At halftime, the score was North 30, CMC 28. 

As the second half got underway Van Eps continued to come up with deep 3-point shots and they also kept looking to get the ball into the hands of Austin Marcus. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes early in the second half. 

North’s Marquis Holloman took the ball hard to the basket and made mid-range jump shots and layups. He also could kick the ball out to his teammates if they had open looks at the basket. 

CMC called a timeout with 10:18 left in regulation. The score was North 38, CMC 36.

Both teams were evenly matched on the defensive end. 

Wilson and Isaac Johnson found each other in the paint and Wilson came up with layups. The defense had a hard time slowing them down. 

CMC called a timeout with 8:33 left in regulation. The score was North 44, CMC 38. 

Tayler Johnson came up with rebounds and layups on the offensive end. He could make shots in traffic. 

North swung the ball around the 3-point line as they took time off the clock. 

North called a timeout with 4:26 left in regulation. The score was North 51, CMC 47. 

North held the ball and took a lot of clock. CMC stayed in their zone defense. 

North called a timeout with 1:47 left in regulation. The score was North 51, CMC 47. 

North continued to attacked the basket and looked for their shots. 

CMC called a timeout with 26.5 seconds left in regulation. The score was North 53, CMC 48. 

North called their last timeout with 24.7 left in regulation. The score was North 55, CMC 48. 

Both teams played hard throughout the game. Both teams were evenly matched Van Epps for CMC played an overall good game. He kept his team in the game. Isaac Johnson played well for North.

North came away with the 55-48 victory over CMC. 

The leading scorers for North were Wilson and Johnson each with 17 points. 

The leading scorers for CMC were Van Eps with 23 points and Austin Marcus with 11 points.

CENTRAL MINNESOTA CHRISTIAN WENT UP AGAINST GOODHUE IN THE CLASS 1A STATE SEMIFINALS IN BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Central Minnesota Christian and Goodhue squared off in a boys’ basketball state semifinal basketball game.

The score went back and forth to start the game. Neither team gave up easy baskets. 

Goodhue’s Ben Opsahl was able to make mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Central Minnesota Christian pushed the ball down the floor and was able to make layups in transition.

There was a media timeout with 6:42 left in the first half. The score was Goodhue 18, Central Minnesota Christian 9.

The Goodhue defense made it difficult for Central Minnesota Christian to come up with open looks at the basket.

Goodhue’s Jacob McNamara and Jacob Pasch both were able to step up and knock down huge baskets late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Goodhue 26, Central Minnesota Christian 20.

As the second half got underway Goodhue continued to push the ball down the floor and make layups in transition. 

There was a media timeout with 14:58 left in regulation. The score was Goodhue 26, Central Minnesota Christian 24.

Neither team went on a run in the second half. The game was tight throughout. 

There was a media timeout with 10:40 left in regulation. The score was Goodhue 30, Central Minnesota Christian 26. 

The game was very evenly played. Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and went after rebounds.                                                                                                                        

The game came down to the wire and Goodhue came away with the 41-38 victory over Central Minnesota Christian.

CENTRAL MINNESOTA CHRISTIAN WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BOYS' BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 9, Central Minnesota Christian (CMC) went up against Minneapolis North in a boys' basketball game.

CMC started the game in a zone defense. They forced North to take deep 3-point baskets.

North called a timeout with 13:59 left in the first half. The score was CMC 7, North 2.

After the timeout North went on an 8-0 run.

CMC called a timeout with 12:44 left in the first half. The score was North 10, CMC 7.

North’s Jamil Jackson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. North’s Tyler Johnson also came up with big baskets.

CMC called a timeout with 9:09 left in the first half. The score was North 19, CMC 14.

CMC wasn’t afraid to take deep 3-point shots. They passed the ball around to each other and communicated with each other.

North stepped up their defensive pressure and was able to slow down CMC on the offensive end.

CMC struggled to shoot the ball late in the first half.

At halftime the score was North 49, CMC 29.

As the second half got underway North continued to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.

North continued to make baskets in transition.

North was quicker than CMC throughout the game. North made baskets in transition.

North looked to take time off the clock late in the game.

North came away with the 79-49 victory over CMC.

The leading scorer for CMC was Ethan Brouwer with 14 points.

The leading scorers for North were Tyler Johnson with 20 and Jamil Jackson with 15 points.

RUSHFORD-PETERSON WENT UP AGAINST CENTRAL MINNESOTA CHRISTIAN IN THE STATE CLASS A SEMIFINALS

On March 13 Rushford-Peterson and Central Minnesota Christian (CMC) played  in the Class A state boys' basketball state semifinals.  The game was played at the Target Center in downtown Minneapolis.

Rushford started out in a zone defense. They looked to control the tempo of the game early.

CMC started in a zone defense. Rushford picked up there defense at the half court line.

There was a media timeout with 15 minutes left in the first half. The score was Rushford 4, CMC 2.

Both teams took a lot of time off the clock as they swung the ball around the 3-point line.

Rushford did a good job of attacking the zone. They came up with steals on defense. Rushford was able to come up with layups off the steals.

Rushford’s Matt Culhane came up with rebounds and layups in the paint. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

CMC had a difficult time shooting the ball in the first half. They were not able to get their shots to drop.

There was a media timeout with 10:50 left in the first half. The score was Rushford 8, CMC 2.

Both teams struggled to shoot the ball midway through the first half. Rushford did a good job of attacking the basket. They were able to get into the lane and past the CMC defenders.

Rushford’s Noah Carlson attacked the basket and came up with layups. He was able to make free throws.

The Rushford’s zone defense caused CMC problems throughout the first half. CMC was not able to get good looks at the basket.

There was a media timeout with 6:47 left in the first half. The score was Rushford 17, CMC 4.

Rushford did a good job of getting the ball down the floor. They did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense.

Rushford continued to get the ball into the hands of Culhane. He came up with layups from the paint.

Culhane also came up with huge rebounds for his team.

There was a media timeout with 3:43 left in the first half. The score was Rushford 22, CMC 9.

CMC’s Austin Bulthuis and Matthew Van Eps scored off of mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. There teammates got the ball to them where they felt comfortable shooting the ball.

Rushford’s Charlie Krambeer came up with deep 3-point shots.

Rushford called a timeout with 48.5 seconds left in the first half. The score was Rushford 28, CMC 13.

Rushford looked to take a lot of time off the clock after the timeout. CMC went to a man-to-man defense.

At halftime the score was Rushford 28, CMC 15.

As the second half got underway Rushford continued to move the ball well down the floor.

There was a media timeout with 14:55 left in regulation. The score was Rushford 35, CMC 19.

Rushford started out the second half in a zone defense. They really made it difficult for CMC to come up with baskets.

Rushford took a lot of time off the clock as they swung the ball around the 3-point line.

There was a media timeout with 10:53 left in regulation. The score was Rushford 42, CMC 25.

Rushford continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the second half.

CMC struggled to shoot throughout the second half.

I thought that CMC didn’t back down from the Rushford’s defense. They attacked the defense. CMC had a difficult time scoring throughout the game.

Rushford came away with the 62-39 Victory over CMC.

The leading scorer for CMC was Bulthuis with 19 points.

The leading scorers for Rushford were Carlson with 16 points, Paulson with 13 points and Krambeer with 11 points.

After the game I was able to talk to Rushford’s head coach Thomas Vix and Noah Carlson and Culhane about the game.
