MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST TOOK ON EDEN PRAIRIE IN A BOYS BASKETBALL REGION GAME

On Feb. 27 Minneapolis Southwest traveled to Eden Prairie for a boys region 6AAAA basketball game.

 

Eden Prairie started in a zone defense. They looked to force Southwest to take long shots.  

 

Eden Prairie’s Grantham Gillard was all over the floor on the offensive end. He was not afraid to shoot deep three-point shots. If Gillard thought that his teammates were open he  would pass the ball to them.

 

Eden Prairie pushed the ball down the floor as they were able to score baskets in transition.

 

Southwest looked to trap on defense. Eden Prairie was able to dribble out of the trap and was able to get to the basket and hit shots.

 

Southwest’s Allen Edwards came up with steals on the defensive end. He was able to get to the basket on offense and make layups.

 

Southwest called a timeout with 9:50 left in the first half. The score was Eden Prairie 27, Southwest 18.

 

Edwards came up with some good plays on both ends of the floor. He was able to set his teammates up as they were able to get layups.

 

Eden Prairie switched up between man-to-man and zone defense throughout the first half. They were able to come up with steals and baskets off the turnovers. Blake Cashman was cash in the second half as he stepped up and knocked down layups and jump shots throughout the second half.

 

Southwest called a timeout with 5:08 left in the first half. The score was Eden Prairie 38, Southwest 20.

 

Eden Prairie swung the ball around the three-point line to take time off the clock late in the first half.

 

Southwest struggled to shoot the ball in the first half.

 

At halftime the score was Eden Prairie 47, Southwest 25.

 

As the second half got underway Eden Prairie continued to take the ball to the basket.

 

Eden Prairie called a timeout with 15:04 left in regulation. The score was Eden Prairie 56, Southwest 30.  

 

Southwest called a timeout with 13:42 left in regulation. The score was Eden Prairie 65, Southwest 32.

 

Southwest continued to attack the basket throughout the second half. Southwest’s Cam Ross came up with layups in the second half.  

 

Eden Prairie was too much for Southwest. Eden Prairie came 94-52 victory over Southwest. The leading scorers for Southwest were Ross with 24 and Smith with 14 points.

 

The leading scorers for Eden Prairie were Wallace with 18 points, and Cashman with 17 points, Glillard finished with 13 points.

EDEN PRAIRIE WENT UP AGAINST OWATONNA IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

Eden Prairie and Owatonna squared up in a boys’ basketball game. Eden Prairie got the ball into the hands of Grantham Gillard and Andre Wallace.

 

It took a while for each team to get into an offensive shooting rhythm.

 

There were many ties and lead changes in the early going.

 

Owatonna looked to push the ball down the court and score baskets in transition. If they couldn’t score baskets in transition they would pull it out and swing the ball around the three-point line and look for a good shot.

 

Gillard was able to get to the basket and looked to make layups.  He was successful.

 

Owatonna called a timeout with 12:04 left in the first half. The score was Eden Prairie 10, Owatonna 7.  

 

Owatonna played a zone defense. They wanted to force Eden Prairie to take long shots. Eden Prairie however was able to get the ball inside and get layups.

 

Owatonna’s Zach Shaver came up with some nice baskets that kept his team in the game.  

 

Eden Prairie called a timeout with 5:08 left in the first half. The score was Eden Prairie 22, Owatonna 21.

 

The score continued to go back and forth late in the first half.  

 

Both teams looked to score on fast breaks and three-pointers. Neither team was afraid to shoot the ball.

 

Owatonna’s Sam Fenske came up with some nice baskets. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

 

Gillard came up with a few steals and was able to convert on the defensive end.

 

Owatonna looked to turn Eden Prairie over when they trapped the ball.

 

At halftime the score was Eden Prairie 37, Owatonna 26.

 

As the second half got underway Wallace continued to drive to the basket and look for his shot. He was continued to make his shot.

 

Owatonna called a timeout with 15:18 left in regulation. The score was Eden Prairie 41, Owatonna 28.

 

Wallace continued to take the ball to the basket and he also did a good job of getting his teammates involved in the offense as well.

 

Owatonna kept on shooting the ball and was able to stay in the game.

 

Eden Prairie called a timeout with 8:58 left in regulation. The score was Eden Prairie 56, Owatonna 46.

 

Owatonna kept chipping away at the deficit. They were able to hit shots that they made.

 

Owatonna got within 3 points at 58-55 with just over 6:00 left in regulation.

 

The score went back and forth after that point. There were many ties and lead changes in the final minutes of the game.

 

Wallace continued to make his shots late in the contest.

 

Eden Prairie came away with the 67-62 victory over Owatonna.

 

The leading scorer for Owatonna was Fenske with 17 points.

 

The leading scorers for Eden Prairie were Gillard with 25 points and Wallace with 20 points.

 

EDEN PRAIRIE TOOK ON PRIOR LAKE IN A BASKETBALL GAME

Eden Prairie went up against Prior Lake in a boys basketball game. The game got off to a quick start as each team raced up and down the floor looking to get into an offensive shooting rhythm.

 

Eden Prairie’s Andre Wallace took the ball hard to the basket. He was able to get his shot going early.

 

Wallace scored Eden Prairie’s first six of his team’s eight points.

 

The score went back and forth throughout the first half. Neither team was able to go on a run.

 

Jason Faul for Prior Lake came up with some nice baskets midway through the first half.

 

Wallace continued to shoot the ball well in the first half. He had good court awareness and knew where his teammates were on the floor at all times.

 

The Prior Lake defense went cold late in the first half. They were not able to hit a shot for a period of time.

 

Eden Prairie continued to shoot the ball well late in the first half.

 

The score went back and forth late in the first half.

 

At halftime the score was tied at 24.

 

As the second half got underway the score continued to go back and forth.

 

Connor Bair for Prior Lake came up and made some nice plays in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

 

Wallace took the ball hard to the basket and was able to step up and hit his free throws.

 

Bair and Wallace guarded each other tightly throughout the game. Neither gave the other an open look at the basket.

 

Grantham Gillard for Eden Prairie came up with some nice shots late in the contest. Gillard was fouled with 0.9 seconds left with the score tied at 62.

 

Gillard hit a free throw to win the game.

 

Both teams played hard but Eden Prairie came away with the 63-62 victory over Prior Lake.  

 

Wallace ended up with 24 points and Gillard ended up with 20 points.

 

For Prior Lake Jon Sobaski with 20 points and Bair with 18 points.

MINNEAPOLIS DELASALLE TOOK ON EDEN PRAIRIE IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

On New Year’s Eve  Minneapolis DeLaSalle went up against Eden Prairie in a boys basketball game.

 

The game got off to a quick start as each team raced up and down the floor looking for their shots.

 

Eden Prairie started in a zone defense. They wanted to force DeLaSalle to take long shots.

 

DeLaSalle looked to push the tempo early. On the defensive rebound DeLaSalle did a good job of getting the ball out of the net and getting the ball down the floor.

 

Eden Prairie called a timeout with 13:13 left in the first half, the score was DeLaSalle 12, Eden Prairie 4.

 

Eden Prairie guard Andre Wallace was all over the floor. On the offensive end Wallace was not afraid to take the ball hard to the basket. He was able to make his layups. Teammate Grantham Gillard also was able to make his layups as well.

 

Eden Prairie's Anthony Anderson came off the bench and gave his team an offensive lift as he brought his speed to the floor.

 

DeLaSalle used motion offense as they passed the ball around the three-point line and as they set a lot of picks. They had a lot of movement in their offense.

 

Eden Prairie did a good job of attacking the basket. They were able to get the ball into Wallace’s hands as he did a good job of driving to the basket to take layups.

 

DeLaSalle’s Jarvis Johnson and Sacar Anim both stepped up and were able to knock down big shots for their team.

 

James Lawson for DeLaSalle took the ball hard to the basket and was able to make lay-ups. He didn’t mind driving by the defenders and was not afraid of contact.

 

At halftime the score was DeLaSalle 35, Eden Prairie 26.

 

As the second half got underway DeLaSalle came out with a lot of energy.

 

Eden Prairie kept the defensive pressure on DeLaSalle forcing them to make contested shots.  They didn’t frustrate the DeLaSalle players as they made it hard for them to make shots.

 

Wallace continued to make his shots in the second half. The DeLaSalle defense was not able to slow him down.

 

DeLaSalle called a timeout with 12:38 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 40, Eden Prairie 36.

 

Grantham Gillard knocked down some deep three-point shots to keep Eden Prairie in the game. He gave his team the lead with just over 11:00 left in the game.

 

DeLaSalle called another timeout with 11:06 left in regulation, the score was Eden Prairie 44, DeLaSalle 40.

 

The score went back and forth throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run.

 

Eden Prairie was able to get steals on the defensive end and come up with lay-ups on the offensive end. Wallace continued to come up with some key shots late in the contest.

 

Gillard kept attacking the basket as well and was able to step up and make his free throws.

 

Eden Prairie was too much for DeLaSalle to handle in the second half. They really stepped up and were able to hit their shots in the second half. DeLaSalle didn’t back down however.

 

In a good hard fought game Eden Prairie came away with the 78-65 victory over DeLaSalle.

 

As a team Eden Prairie shot 31-49 from the field that included going 4-9 from behind the three-point line. They were 12-20 from the free throw line. Eden Prairie brought down a total of 38 rebounds, 29 of them on the defensive end. They were led in scoring by Wallace with 26 points and Gillard with 23 points.

 

As a team DeLaSalle shot 25-56 from the field that included going 10-24 from behind the three-point line. They were 5-12 from the free throw line. DeLaSalle brought down a total of 20 rebounds 13 of them on the defensive end. They were led in scoring by Anim with 18 points and Johnson with 17 points.

EDEN PRAIRIE TOOK ON WOODBURY IN THE QUARTERFINALS OF THE 2013 MINNESOTA STATE HIGH SCHOOL LEAGUE BOYS' BASKETBALL STATE TOURNAMENT

Eden Prairie went up against Woodbury in the state quarterfinals of the 2013 Minnesota State High School League state tournament.

The score went back and forth throughout the first half. Both teams traded baskets for a good portion of the half.

Woodbury looked to get the ball into the hands of Renard Suggs. Suggs was all over the floor for the Royals.

Eden Prairie was plagued by foul trouble early on in the contest. Andre Wallace had good court awareness as he was able to get everyone involved in the offense and he stepped up and knocked down shots to keep his team in the game.

Eden Prairie went on a little run late in the first half. Woodbury didn't break down as they were able to hold their composure.

The game was close throughout the first half.

At halftime the score was Eden Prairie 33 and Woodbury 28.

Andre Wallace and Alex Ihrke for Eden Prairie did a good job of keeping their team in the game throughout the contest .

Woodbury didn't give up any easy shots. They were not able to slow down the Eden Prairie offense in the second half.

Woodbury made a run late in the game.

Both teams played hard throughout the contest.

Eden Prarie was able to hang on and come away with the 70-59 victory over Woodbury.
