On Feb. 27 Minneapolis Southwest traveled to Eden Prairie for a boys region 6AAAA basketball game.
Eden Prairie started in a zone defense. They looked to force Southwest to take long shots.
Eden Prairie’s Grantham Gillard was all over the floor on the offensive end. He was not afraid to shoot deep three-point shots. If Gillard thought that his teammates were open he would pass the ball to them.
Eden Prairie pushed the ball down the floor as they were able to score baskets in transition.
Southwest looked to trap on defense. Eden Prairie was able to dribble out of the trap and was able to get to the basket and hit shots.
Southwest’s Allen Edwards came up with steals on the defensive end. He was able to get to the basket on offense and make layups.
Southwest called a timeout with 9:50 left in the first half. The score was Eden Prairie 27, Southwest 18.
Edwards came up with some good plays on both ends of the floor. He was able to set his teammates up as they were able to get layups.
Eden Prairie switched up between man-to-man and zone defense throughout the first half. They were able to come up with steals and baskets off the turnovers. Blake Cashman was cash in the second half as he stepped up and knocked down layups and jump shots throughout the second half.
Southwest called a timeout with 5:08 left in the first half. The score was Eden Prairie 38, Southwest 20.
Eden Prairie swung the ball around the three-point line to take time off the clock late in the first half.
Southwest struggled to shoot the ball in the first half.
At halftime the score was Eden Prairie 47, Southwest 25.
As the second half got underway Eden Prairie continued to take the ball to the basket.
Eden Prairie called a timeout with 15:04 left in regulation. The score was Eden Prairie 56, Southwest 30.
Southwest called a timeout with 13:42 left in regulation. The score was Eden Prairie 65, Southwest 32.
Southwest continued to attack the basket throughout the second half. Southwest’s Cam Ross came up with layups in the second half.
Eden Prairie was too much for Southwest. Eden Prairie came 94-52 victory over Southwest. The leading scorers for Southwest were Ross with 24 and Smith with 14 points.
The leading scorers for Eden Prairie were Wallace with 18 points, and Cashman with 17 points, Glillard finished with 13 points.
