PARK CENTER TOOK ON MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN IN THE CLASS 3A STATE SEMIFINALS

Park Center and Minneapolis Washburn went up against each other in the state semifinals at Williams Arena.
 
Both teams came out with a lot of energy as they both looked to set the tempo early.
 
There was a media timeout with 14:56 left in the first half. The score was Washburn 4, Park Center 2.
 
Park Center got everyone involved in the offense. They did a good job of passing the ball around the three-point line and attacked the basket.
 
Park Center came up with some steals and was able to score off the steals.
 
Washburn looked to get the ball into the hands of Chase Coley. Coley called for the ball on the low block and was able to make layups.
 
There was a media timeout with 9:17 left in the first half. The score was Park Center 15, Washburn 14.
 
Park Center’s Cayla McMorris made her mid-range jump shots. Her teammates did a good job of getting her the ball in spots where she could shoot the ball. Mikayla Hayes also came up with some nice mid-range jump shots.
 
Park Center switched between man-to-man and zone defense throughout the first half. They wanted to confuse Washburn on the offensive end.
 
Park Center did a good job of scoring baskets in transition.
 
There was a media timeout with 3:30 left in the first half. The score was Park Center 25, Washburn 21.
 
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls late in the first half.  
 
The score at halftime was Park Center 29, Washburn 28.
 
The second half got off to a quick start as both teams traded baskets.
 
There was a media timeout with 14:37 left in regulation. The score was Park Center 39, Washburn 32.
 
Park Center’s Hayes and McMorris came up with big shots throughout the game.
 
Both teams traded deep three-point baskets.
 
There was a media timeout with 11:00 left in regulation. The score was Park Center 44, Washburn 39.
 
Dubois got between the Washburn defenders as she was able to make layups.
 
Washburn called a timeout with 7:12 left in regulation. The score was Park Center 48, Washburn 43.
 
McMorris couldn’t be stopped on the offensive end. She was able to hit shots throughout the game.

Washburn called a timeout with 3:44 left in regulation. The score was Park Center 51, Washburn 45.
 
Park Center attacked the basket late in the contest. The game came down to the wire. Washburn was able to hit layups late in the game
 
Park Center came away with the 63-59 victory over Washburn.
 
The leading scorer for Washburn was Coley with 25 points.
 
The leading scorers for Park Center were McMorris with 26 points, Simonet with 14 points and Hayes with 13 points.
 
After the game I talked to Park Center’s head coach Chris VanderHyde about the game. I was also able to talk to park Center players McMorris and Hayes about the game.
