Minnehaha Academy and Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted went up against each other in the quarterfinals of the Class 2A of the girls state basketball tournament.
It took a while for each team to get used to what the other team was doing. Minnehaha pushed the ball down the floor and was able to score baskets in transition.
Minnehaha called a timeout with 12:01 left in the first half. The score was HL-W-W 9, Minnehaha 2.
Minnehaha came up with some mid-range jump shots late in the first half.
The defense each team played made it hard for each team to get open looks at the basket.
At halftime the score was HL-W-W 24, Minnehaha 20.
As the second half got underway both teams looked to take their time on the offensive end.
Minnehaha was able to come up with fast break baskets early.
Both teams were able to come up with layups throughout the second half.
HL-W-W called a timeout with 11:20 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 33, HL-W-W 31.
HL-W-W Abby Miller came up with some huge mid-range jump shots in the second half.
Minnehaha couldn’t get their offense rolling in the second half. Howard Lake came away with the 62-43 victory over Minnehaha.
The leading scorers for Minnehaha were Kaminski with 14 points and Gilreath with 13 points.
The leading scorer for HL-W-W was Miller with 23 points.
