Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (BBE) went up against Rushford-Peterson at the Target Center on March 15 in the championship game of the Minnesota State High School League tournament.
BBE looked to set the tempo early in the contest. They were able to get everyone involved in the offense early.
There was a media timeout with 14:05 left in the first half. The score was BBE 7, Rushford 0.
BBE did a good job of getting fast break baskets. Rushford had trouble shooting early in the contest.
There was a media timeout with 10:56 left in the first half. The score was BBE 13, Rushford 4.
BBE’s Billy Borgerding was all over the floor. He was able to knock down mid-range jump shots throughout the first half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball where he could shoot it.
There was a media timeout with 6:48 left in the first half. The score was BBE 16, Rushford 9.
BBE looked to pass the ball around the three-point line as they looked to take time off the clock as they looked to get to the basket and look for their shots.
Rushford’s offense got clicking late in the first half as they were able to get within four points with 4:25 left in the first half.
There was a media timeout with 3:12 left in the first half. The score was BBE 20, Rushford 16.
Rushford continued to hit shots late in the first half. The score went back and forth.
At halftime the score was Rushford 25, BBE 21.
As the second half got underway Rushford’s Alex Vix and Cole Kingley were all over the floor. They were able to step up and knock down mid-range jump shots.
There was a media timeout with 14:44 left in regulation. The score was Rushford 27, BBE 24.
Rushford looked to get the ball into the hands of Vix, Kingsley and O’Hare in the second half. They were able to get shots that they wanted to get inside the paint.
There was a media timeout with 10:16 left in regulation. The score was Rushford 34, BBE 30.
BBE looked to trap Rushford as they wanted to create turnovers.
There were many ties and lead changes in the second half.
There was a timeout with 6:48 left in regulation. The score was tied at 37.
The score went back and forth throughout the second half.
BBE went to a zone defense and that was fine for Rushford as they passed the ball around the three-point line as they looked to take off the clock.
Goodwin continued to come up with big shots late in the contest.
There was a media timeout with 3:18 left in regulation. The score was BBE 46, Rushford 39.
BBE held onto the ball late in the game. Rushford was not able to hit shots down the stretch.
BBE came away with the 52-40 victory over Rushford.
With that victory BBE won the Class A Minnesota State High School League tournament champions.
The leading scorers for Rushford were Vix with 12 points and Kingsley with 11 points.
The leading scorers for BBE were Goodwin with 24, Keuler with 10 points, Borgerding with 10 points.
