MINNEAPOLIS NORTH TOOK ON ST. PAUL JOHNSON FOR THE TWIN CITIES BOYS BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP


Minneapolis North won the Minneapolis City Conference title and St. Paul Johnson won the St. Paul City Conference.
 
Johnson started out in a full court man-to-man defense. They looked to get the ball down the floor quickly and score baskets in transition.
 
Johnson came out of the gates cold. They had a hard time hitting shots that they put up.
 
North’s Tyler Johnson came up with layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could make shots.
 
Johnson called a timeout with 14:55 left in the first half. The score was North 9, Johnson 1.
 
Johnson’s Louis Williams took the ball hard to the basket. Even though he had a difficult time hitting mid-range jump shots Williams wasn’t afraid to take it to the basket.
 
After a slow start Johnson got hot as the whole team was able to hit consecutive shots midway through the first half.
 
North slowed down their scoring productivity midway through the first half. They missed some shots and Johnson came up with the rebounds and were able to push the ball down the floor and get layups in transition.
 
North called a timeout with 5:01 left in the first half. The score was Johnson 29, North 23.
 
Johnson continued to push the pace of the game and they came on fire after the North timeout.
 
North went cold on the offensive end to end the first half.   
 
The score at halftime was Johnson 36, North 31.
 
Johnson came out on fire in the second half. They were able to score baskets in transition.
 
Johnson was able to set the tone of the second half early. They pushed the ball down the ball the court well and were able to score baskets in transition.
 
North called a timeout with 10:23 left in regulation. The score was Johnson 61, North 49.
 
Both teams continued to play hard throughout the game. North came up with some big baskets midway through the second half.
 
North continued to push the ball down the floor and get baskets in transition. Both Tyler Johnson and Isaac Johnson came up with big baskets for North in the second half.
 
Johnson’s Jalen Mobley came up with some big layups in the second half to keep his team in the game. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball so he could shoot it.
 
Johnson looked to take time off the clock late in regulation. They looked to get the ball into the hands of Mobley and Mitchell McDonald. Both Mobley and McDonald came up with some big baskets late in the game.
 
North’s Jamil Jackson fouled out of the game with just over 5:00 left in regulation.
 
North called a timeout with 4:59 left in regulation. The score was Johnson 79, North 68.
 
North kept on making shots down the stretch.
 
After a slow start Johnson turned on the offensive jets as they were able to come up with baskets in the second half.
 
Johnson came away with the 91-81 victory over North.
 
The leading scorers for North were Tyler Johnson with 26 points and Isacc Johnson with 16 points.
 
The leading scorers for Johnson were Mobley with 23 points and McDonald with 19 points.
 
With that win Johnson is the 2014 Twin Cities Boys Basketball Champion.
