MONTICELLO WENT UP AGAINST CLOQUET IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Monticello and Cloquet squared off in a boys’ basketball game at Totino-Grace as part of the Martin Luther King Holiday Classic on Jan. 15. 

Cloquet got everyone involved in the offense. Cloquet’s Pokornowski Jayden came up with layups and mid-range jump shots.

The score was close throughout the first half. Neither team went on a run.

Cloquet switched between man-to-man and zone defenses in the first half. They looked to confuse Monticello on the offensive end.

Monticello’s Rezi Useh came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. Teammate Matt Todd also came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

At halftime the score was Monticello 49, Cloquet 32.

As the second half got underway Cloquet continued to struggle to shoot the ball.

Monticello passed the ball around the three-point line as they took time off the clock and were able to get everyone involved in the offense.

Monticello took advantage of Cloquet’s missed shots as they came up with layups on the defensive end.

Monticello called a timeout with 12:36 left in regulation. The score was Monticello 56, Cloquet 38.

Monticello wasn’t afraid to take deep 3-point shots. Everyone on the floor for both teams rebounded. Monticello pushed the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.

Todd and Useh both came up with baskets throughout the second half. Their teammates did a good job of getting them the ball where they could shoot it.

Cloquet couldn’t get their offense going and Monticello was quicker than Monticello was able to get their shots to drop.

Monticello came away with the 78-49 victory over Cloquet.

The leading scorers Cloquet were Jayden and Turnbull each with 12 points and Leuzzo with 11 points.

The leading scorer for Monticello was Todd with 18 points.

HOLY FAMILY WENT UP AGAINST CLOQUET IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

Holy Family and Cloquet squared off in a boys’ basketball game. Cloquet started the game in a zone defense. Holy Family swung the ball around the 3-point line as they got everyone involved in the offense. 

Cloquet used a zone defense that made Holy Family take deep 3-point shots. 

Holy Family called a timeout with 6:57 left in the first half. The score was Holy Family 35, Cloquet 25. 

Holy Family’s Lincoln Cizek did a good job of attacking the basket and coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

At halftime, the score was, Holy Family 49, Cloquet 34. 

As the second half got under way Holy Family continued get the ball into the hands of Lincoln Cizek. Cizek did a good job of making his mid-range jump shots and layups and his teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Cloquet struggled making shots in the second half. They were not able to hit shots that they put up.

Holy Family’s Nick Hendler came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Holy Family came away with the 88-76 victory over Cloquet. 

The leading scorers for Cloquet were Logan Gallup with 20 points, and Tyler Moose with 15 points. 

The leading scorers for Holy Family were Nathan Handler with 24 points, Lincoln Cizek with 21 points and Griffin Johnson with 18 points.

CLOQUET WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS SOUTHWEST IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 21, 2014 Cloquet and Southwest squared off in a boys’ basketball game.

Southwest’s Brennan Hawkins came up with layups early. He was able to get past the defense and get to the basket. Hawkins was also able to hit 3-point shots.

Southwest’s Dakota Fleming was all over the court. On the offensive end Fleming came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He wasn’t afraid to pass the ball to his teammates and get assists.

Cloquet’s Gavin Takkunen knocked down mid-range jump shots. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Southwest’s Arthur Frazier came up with layups. He was able to beat his man off the dribble and get to the basket.

Cloquet called a timeout with 8:01 left in the first half. The score was Southwest 18, Cloquet 11.

Frazier came up with layups. He called for the ball and was able to get the ball at the top of the key and was able to get to the basket.

Southwest called a timeout with 4:59 left in the first half. The score was Southwest 20, Cloquet 13.

Cloquet attacked the basket as they looked for layups. They had a difficult time getting the ball into the zone defense.

Cloquet came up with layups late in the first half. Cloquet’s Zachary Gerlach and Manson Brenner came up with layups and mid-range jump shots.

At halftime the score was Southwest 31, Cloquet 20.

As the second half got underway Cloquet attack the basket and was able to come up with layups.

Fleming came up with layups in the second half.

Southwest called a timeout with 10:04 left in regulation. The score was Southwest 43, Cloquet 39.

Gerlach came up with jump shots late in the second half. Nathen Weets came up with huge jump shots throughout the game.

Cloquet got the lead with just under seven minutes to go in regulation. Southwest continued to come up with shots down the stretch.

The score went back and forth late in the game. Cloquet got the ball into the hands of Garlach and Weets late in the game. Cloquet came away with the 71-69 victory over Southwest.

The leading scorers for Cloquet were Weets with 26 points, Gerlach with 22 points and Brenner with 11 points.

The leading scorers for Southwest were Frazier with 24 points, Alexander with 14 points, Hawkins with 11 points and Fleming with 8 points.
