SPRING LAKE PARK JAMBOREE

On Nov. 18 Spring Lake Park hosted a boys basketball jamboree. Each game was played one 18 minute half.
 
OSSEO VS. COLUMBIA HEIGHTS
 
Osseo and Columbia Heights squared off in the first scrimmage. Osseo moved the ball around the floor well late in the contest.
 
Columbia Heights struggled to shoot the ball. Osseo was a lot quicker than Columbia Heights.
 
Osseo came away with the 40-17 victory over Columbia Heights.
 
MOUNDS VIEW VS. IRONDALE
 
Mounds View went up against Irondale. Mounds View pushed the ball down the floor and looked for layups in transition.
 
The score went back and forth early. Neither team went on a run. There were many ties and lead changes.
 
Irondale moved the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to attack the Mounds View defense.
 
They took a lot of time off the clock.
 
Mounds View came away with the 23-21 victory over Irondale.
 
ST. FRANCIS VS. SPRING LAKE PARK
 
St. Francis and Spring Lake Park squared off against each other. St. Francis was able to make layups
off in transition.
 
Spring Lake Park found their shooting touch midway through the half. They started hitting mid-range jump shots and layups.
 
Neither team went on a run throughout the contest.
 
Spring Lake Park came away with the 19-17 victory over St. Francis.
 
TOTINO GRACE WENT UP AGAINST BLAINE
 
Totino Grace and Blaine squared off against each other. The game got off to a quick start as both teams raced up and down the floor trading layups and mid-range jump shots.
 
Totino Grace took a lot of deep three-point shots. They attacked the basket after each shot.
 
Blaine got hot midway through the contest. They were able to hit shots that they put up.
 
Totino Grace countered it as they came up with shots of their own.
 
The score went back and forth as there were many ties and lead changes throughout the contest.
 
Blaine came away with the 26-25 victory over Totino Grace.
 
FRIDLEY VS MAPLE GROVE
 
Fridley took on Maple Grove. Fridley took their time on the offensive end as they swung the ball around the 3-point line.
 
Maple Grove played a zone defense. Fridley wasn’t afraid to shoot deep three-point shots.
 
It took Fridley awhile to get into a shooting rhythm. They couldn’t find their shots.
 
Maple Grove did a good job of attacking the basket. They made layups in transition.
 
Maple Grove came away with the 41-23 victory over Fridley.
 
FOREST LAKE VS COON RAPIDS
 
In the final match up of the event Forest Lake went up against Coon Rapids. Both teams struggled to shoot the ball early.
 
Coon Rapids couldn’t get their offense going throughout the game.
 
Forest Lake was much more efficient in running their offense.

TOTINO-GRACE TOOK ON HILL-MURRAY IN A GIRLS' BASKETBALL GAME

Totino-Grace traveled to Hill-Murray High School for a girls' basketball game. It was the first game for both of these teams.

Totino-Grace started the game out in a zone defense. Hill-Murray started the game out in a man-to-man defense.

Hill-Murray looked to get the ball into the hands of Tessa Cichy. She was able to get the ball down the court quickly. She was quick enough to blow by her defenders.

It took both the teams awhile to get into the swing of their offense. Neither team shot the ball well in the opening five minutes of the game.

Hill-Murray took their time on the offensive end. They worked the ball around the three-point line and were able to get all of their teammates involved in the play.

It took Totino-Grace awhile to get into the offensive flow of the game. Even though they were not able to hit shots early in the first half they did not get down on themselves. They kept on shooting the ball.

Totino-Grace took a timeout with 11:03 left in the first half. The score was Hill-Murray 13 and Totino-Grace 10.

Totino-Grace went on a run after the timeout.

Totino-Grace looked to push the ball down the court as quickly as they could. Hill-Murray did a good job of keeping up with the tempo of the game.

Hill-Murray took a timeout with 8:51 the score was Totino-Grace 16 and Hill-Murray 13.

Both teams did a good job of pushing the ball down the court as they both looked to get baskets in transition.

Hill-Murray looked to shoot three-point shots. They took their time from shooting the outside shot but if they felt that they could make the shots they would shoot them.

Tessa Cichy did a good job of finding the open player. If she was not open she would pass the ball to one of her teammates so they could get a better shot.

Both teams were very physical. Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls. And they went after rebounds on both ends of the floor.

Totino-Grace called a 30 second timeout with 3:56 left to go in the first half. The score was Hill-Murray 23 and Totino-Grace 19.

The score went back and forth throughout the first half. At halftime the score was tied at 27.

Hill-Murray came out in a man-to-man defense. They applied a lot of pressure. Hill-Murray wanted to get Totino-Grace out of their comfort zone early in the half.
Hill-Murray continued to push the ball down the court and looked to score baskets in transition.

Gabby Zehrer for Totino-Grace launched some deep three-point shots that didn't go in. She didn't get down on herself as she kept on shooting the ball.

The second half was also very competitive.

Hill-Murray found their shooting rhythm with about 12:00 left in regulation.

Hill-Murray called a 30 second timeout with 11:38 left in regulation. The score was Hill-Murray38 and Totino-Grace 33.

Hill-Murray continued to make their shots.

Totino-Grace called a 30 second timeout with 10:14 left in regulation. The score was Hill-Murray 44 and Totino-Grace 36.

Hill-Murray continued their run. Totino-Grace didn't give up. They kept on fighting hard and diving on the floor for loose balls.

Hill-Murray got hot and they were able to go on a run midway through the half.

Totino-Grace called a timeout with 6:45 left in regulation with the score Hill-Murray 55 and Totino-Grace 40

Both teams played well throughout the game.

Hill-Murray called a timeout with 3:31 left in the game. The score was Hill-Murray 59 and Totino-Grace 47.

Hill-Murray called a 30 second timeout with 2:31 left in the game.

I thought that both teams played well and hard throughout the game. Totino-Grace never got down on themselves and they played hard throughout the game. They made a run late in the contest by that was not enough.

Totino Grace called a timeout with 1:06 left in regulation. They were able to get within eight at 65-56.

Totino-Grace fouled the last minute of the game. They looked to get the rebound and score easy baskets.

In the end Hill-Murray came away with the 72-60 victory over Totino-Grace. The leading scores for Totino-Grace were Gabby Zehrer with 21 and Therese Hinnenkamp with 11 points, and Marissa Stelzer with 10 points. The leading scorers for Hill-Murray were Tessa Cichy with 26 and Claire Van Dyk with 20.

TOTINO-GRACE TOOK ON HILL-MURRAY IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL CONTEST

Totino-Grace took on Hill-Murray in a boys’ basketball contest. Totino-Grace came into the game with a record of 3-2. Hill-Murray came into the game with a record of 4-4.

Hill-Murray wanted to control the ball in the contest. On the offensive end they took their time with the ball, as they wanted to find their shots.

Both teams found their shots early on. The scoring went back and forth for a period of time in the first half.

Totino-Grace went on a run with about 10:00 left to go in the first half.

Hill-Murray looked inside to their big men for scoring chances.

Both teams looked to push the ball down the court.

Totino-Grace took their time on the offensive end. They passed the ball around the three-point arch for a while, as they wanted to burn a lot of time off the clock.

The game was close throughout the first half.

At halftime the score was Hill-Murray 27 and Totino-Grace 23.

As the second half got underway Hill-Murray came out in a zone defense.

Hill-Murray went on a run to open the second half. They were able to find their shots early and often.

Totino continued to make their shots in the second half. Hill-Murray made that hard for them because of the defensive pressure that they were using.

Hill-Murray played hard throughout the game. They were able to go on a run midway through the second half.

Hill-Murray came away with the 72-52 victory over Totino-Grace.

TOTINO GRACE TOOK ON ROGERS IN THE CLASS AAAA STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

Totino Grace took on Rogers at the Metrodome in the MSHSL Class AAAA state football final game.

Totino Grace kicked off to Rogers. Rogers started running the ball on their first drive. Rogers didn’t get a first down and they had to punt the ball to Totino Grace.


Totino Grace’s Alex Kreuser found Nick Frandsen in the end zone for a touchdown. The extra point attempt was good.


With 9:39 left to go in the first quarter the score was Totino Grace 7 and Rogers 0.


Totino Grace kicked off to Rogers after the touchdown. Rogers Bjorn Bloom came up with a few nice plays in the first quarter. Rogers was not able to convert on fourth down. They had to punt the ball back to Totino Grace.


Totino Grace kept the ball on the ground on the next drive. They threatened to score on the drive. Totino Grace was able to pound the ball down the middle of the field. Ashford Kromah scored a touchdown with 3:36 left to go in the first quarter.


With that touchdown the score was Totino Grace 14 and Rogers 0.


Rogers got the ball back after the touchdown. They looked to pound the ball down the field. Rogers was not able to get the first down and how to give the ball back to Totino Grace.


Rogers looked to score late in the quarter as Bjorn Bloom found the end zone on a 40-yard touchdown pass. The extra point attempt was good.


With 4:30 left to go in the second quarter the score was Totino Grace 14 and Rogers 7.


Totino Grace’s Xavier Fust scored a touchdown with 1:30 left to go in the second quarter. The extra point attempt was good.


At halftime the score was Totino Grace 21 and Rogers 7.


Totino Grace got the ball back to start the third quarter. Tom Laventure scored a 59 yard run for a touchdown for Totino Grace. The extra point attempt was good.


Rogers got the ball back after the touchdown. Alex Meixell rush for 2 yards and a touchdown with 8:28 left to go in the third quarter. The extra point attempt was good.


Totino Grace’s Tom Laventure scored a touchdown with 4:01 left to go in the third quarter. The extra point attempt was no good.


At the end of the third quarter the score was Totino Grace 34 and Rogers 14.


Rogers looked to get the ball into the end zone midway through the fourth quarter. They were not able to score.


Totino Grace came away with the 34-14 victory over Rogers.


After the game I was able to talk to Totino Grace players Alex Kreuser, Tom Laventure, Alex Kromah and head coach Jeff Ferguson about the championship game.


With that victory Totino Grace is the 2010 MSHSL Class AAAA state champion’s. They also won the state title last year.

MINNETONKA TOOK ON TOTINO GRACE IN THE OPENING GAME OF THE 2010 MSHSL FOOTBALL SEASON

Totino Grace took on Minnetonka in the first game of the 2010 Minnesota high school football season.


Totino Grace was as able to get onto the board early in the second quarter.


The Totino Grace offense was all over the field. They were able to dominate Minnetonka in the early going of the game.


The first half went back and forth. The Totino Grace defense stepped up through the first half. They did a good job of containing the Minnetonka defense.


At halftime the score was Totino Grace 7 and Minnetonka 0.


Totino Grace played well through the first half. They lost one of the better receivers in the state in Johnny Crockett. Crockett graduated last year.


As the third quarter got underway both teams came out with a little bit of fire. Both teams wanted to start the season.


Totino Grace got the ball to begin the third quarter. They wanted to try to muster as much offense early in the beginning of the quarter as they could.


For Totino Grace quarterback Alex Kreuser was able to find his receivers who were able to come up with some nice plays through out the game.


Totino Grace was able to drive down the field and chew up a lot of clock the first drive of the quarter.


Tom Laventure had a three yard run for a touchdown with 5:57 left in the third quarter. The extra point attempt was good. With that touchdown and point afterwards, the score was Totino Grace 14 and Minnetonka 0.


Minnetonka did a good job of mixing up plays throughout the game. They used both the running game and throwing game. They wanted to try to get Totino Grace off guard.


Totino Grace mostly ran running plays throughout most of the first three quarters. Minnetonka didn’t give up.


Totino Grace wanted to get the ball into the hands of Ashford Kromah. Kroma was able to dance around the Minnetonka defenders.


At the end of the third quarter the score was Totino Grace 14 and Minnetonka 0.


Totino Grace’s Nick Frandsen got a touchdown reception with 11:00 left to go in the fourth quarter. With that touchdown and the extra point the score was Totino Grace 21 and Minnetonka 0.


Minnetonka got the ball back after the touchdown. They wanted to try to get their offence going. They were not able to do that. You have to give the Minnetonka players credit for not giving up.


Totino Grace was once again able to make a drive midway through the fourth quarter. Grace fumbled the ball and Minnetonka recovered the ball.


Minnetonka wanted to find the end zone at least once in the game. They were not able to do that. With 1:25 remaining in the contest Minnetonka came up short on their final drive and turned the ball over to Totino Grace.


Totino Grace was able to come away with the 21-0 victory over Minnetonka.

ST MICHEAL ALBERTVILLE TOOK ON TOTINO GRACE



In the second game it was St Michael Albertville took on Totino Grace. Both of these teams got off to a strong start. Both of these teams really moved the ball up the court. Both of these teams were able to shoot the ball well in the early goings of the game.

St Micheal Albertville used a zone defense in the first half. Both of these teams were to play good physical play in the first half. Brittani Wiese was able to find her shot in the first half. She went after loose balls and wasn’t afraid to go after it.

In a game that went up and down the court at the half the score was St Micheal Albertville 30 and Totino Grace 25.

As the second half got underway both of these teams were battling. St Micheal Albertville was playing a strong aggressive zone defense.

Both teams hustled after the ball. St Michael Albertville was able to push the ball up the court and they looked to get the ball inside to their post player. For St Michael Albertville Courtney Barthel was able to come up and make some nice plays. She was able to make some pretty passes to her teammates.

St Micheal Albertville was able to swing the ball around the three point arch. They wanted to burn as much time off the clock as they could.

Totino Grace was able to make a comeback in the second half. They didn’t give up. They fought back. The score was tied at 51 with 4:20 left to go in regulation.

Both teams fought down the stretch. They didn’t want to give up. This game came down to the wire. The game got close and both teams battled till the very end. In the end St Micheal Albertville was able to come away with the 63-60 victory.
The leading scorers for Totino Grace were Lizzi Nauman with 15 points and Keli Kraska with 14 points.

THE BATTLE OF FRIDLEY

It was a battle for bragging rights of Fridley as Totino Grace took on Fridley at Fridley High School. These two schools are located a mile of each other.

Totino Grace started playing tough man to man defense to begin the game. Fridley started the game playing zone defense. Fridley was able to pick off passes from the Tonino Grace players and they were able convert in transition. Tonino Grace went on a run mid way through the first half.

Both teams played a very tight first half. They were trading baskets mid way through the first half. Fridley looked to push the ball up the court quickly. Isaiah Thomas has played well for Fridley.

At the half the score was Fridley 26 and Totino Grace 21. Both teams played very well and both of these teams are in this game.

Both teams went back and forth at the beginning of the second half. Fridley made a push in the second half. They were able to hold off Totino Grace in the second half.

Both teams went after each other but Fridley was able to come away with the 71-61 victory.
