2014 MAJOR LEAGUE ALL STAR BASEBALL WEEKEND-FAN FEST AND CONCERT
With the All Star game comes a weekend of fun activities for fans to do. On Saturday, July 12, I went and checked out Fanfest and a concert.
I didn’t know what to think about the Fan Fest when I started thinking of the events around the All Star game.
The Minneapolis Convention Center was turned into a huge baseball museum of sorts. There were pictures explaining the history of the league.
Each part of the history of the game was broken down into different parts of the Convention Center.
They started with the Negro League and you could read history about that area of baseball.
They had a different section on the World Baseball Classic. They had old highlight videos of real game footage on that area of time.
One of the most areas that got a lot of attention by the fans was the Baseball Hall Of Fame. They had artifacts from different players who are part of the Baseball Hall Of Fame.
If you are a gamer they had different baseball video games with contests that fans could play.
Local media stations along with national media outlets were on hand broadcasting from the Fan Fest.
Throughout the event former current and future players showed up throughout the day to sign autographs. There were also sessions where fans could have a question and answer sessions with different players. There were also many chances to take photos and autographs with players, both past, current and future.
There was also a large section for silent and live auctions going on. Articles that were available for the auction were old game-used uniforms, lineup cards, gloves, bats, balls, etc.
In the middle of the Convention Center a huge makeshift field was set up. There was always action going on, on the field. Weather it was a t-ball game or a clinic the big field was a big hit for fans.
If you were looking to buy any All Star official shirts and apparel there was lots of chances to do that as all the teams were represented.
Overall I really enjoyed my time at the Fan Fest. You do truly need to spend a lot of time to get
through everything and bring your billfold and be prepared to shell out a lot of money for that All Star apparel.
Saturday night there was also free huge concert at TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota. There were multiple ways fans could win free tickets to the show. The show featuring the Imagine Dragons with Atmosphere as the leadoff group.
I thought that the concert was very good and entertaining.

COLD BEER OR WINE FOR ANY ONE AT THE UOFM FOOTBALL GAMES. ANY ONE ANY ONE
According to JENNA
ROSS of the Star Tribune, “The University of
Minnesota has a plan for selling beer and wine -- but no hard liquor
-- to football fans at Gopher home games.
The U's Board of Regents will discuss and vote this week on a
resolution to allow "beer or beer and wine sales" in the
premium-seating section of TCF Bank Stadium and in a single "beer
garden" during Gopher games. The vote is expected to wrap up
years of debate about whether and where alcohol ought to be sold.
"It will be a restricted and controlled environment where
they will be very careful about requiring identification, so students
will not have access," said regents Chairwoman Linda Cohen.
The university's new plan, developed by a task force and announced
Monday, is consistent with those rules but adds details.
It says that alcohol sales will start an hour before kickoff and
stop at the end of halftime. No alcohol will be allowed at the
Veterans Memorial or on the Tribal Nations Plaza near the west-end
gates of the stadium. There will be no hard liquor sales.
"We did draw the line at not selling the hard liquor,"
Cohen said, citing "a feel about it at a sporting event."
Rules governing alcohol sales at Minnesota Vikings games played at
TCF while a new stadium is built are a separate issue that will be
resolved later.
Alcohol has always been forbidden at the TCF stadium because
lawmakers objected to the university's plan to allow drinking only in
the arena's premium seats. With a cry of "beer for one, beer for
all," the Legislature banned alcohol sales unless folks in the
cheap seats were allowed to drink, too.
The resolution the regents will consider Wednesday rescinds one
passed in 2009 that prohibited selling or serving alcohol in TCF Bank
Stadium, Mariucci Arena and Williams Arena during college games. It
"authorizes the reapplication for liquor licenses" at those
two other venues and makes it possible for those venues to sell beer
and wine to those fans in some areas.
Cohen said she believes such sales would be "only in the club
rooms."
In a news release, the university said it considers the next two
years a pilot project and will assess and adjust as it goes along.
It's "a balanced approach offering very limited sales in the
general seating area," Amy Phenix, chief of staff for university
President Eric Kaler, said in a statement. "First and foremost,
we are committed to the safety of students and fans and to being good
neighbors."
I personally think that this would be a
good idea because; I think that it would bring in more money for the
program. It would also be a good revenue source for the University of
Minnesota.

THE UNIVERSITY OF MINNESOTA OPENS ITS DOORS TO TCF BANK STADIUM
The University Of Minnesota opened its doors as they held an open house. They gave free tours of TCF Bank Stadium.
This was the first time that I had been inside the TCF Bank Stadium. I have driven around the Stadium and I when I first got to the stadium I was amazed at all the buzz around it. When I got into the parking lot, parking at the stadium for this event was $3.75. I was surprised at first that they were charging for parking but then again I wasn’t because I figured that they wanted to simulate a game situation.
I arrived at the field and from the outside and the stadium was beautiful. There were all the names of all of the counties in Minnesota carved in brick lining the outside of the stadium.
I had to wait about 20 minutes before I was able to get into the stadium because I was early. The college radio station was there handing out free stuff. After about a 10-minute wait the doors were opened to the Stadium.
After I got past security I walked up a flight of stairs where there were tables of all of the colleges that the University of Minnesota provides. They were handing out information about their courses they offer. After all that they provided free tours of the locker rooms. The University of Minnesota locker room is the largest of any pro or college sports. The locker room is in a shape of a football. The only other stadium that has a locker room shaped like a football is the Green Bay Packers of the NFL.
After the locker room tour it was time to hit the field. The field was awesome. People were only allowed to stay in the end zone. When I was on the field it brought memories of screaming fans in a tournament appearance. When I go down and cover the Minnesota state football and you have thousands of screaming fans and I am trying to interview the players. There is a lot of happiness and emotion that the fans bring.
After I got done with the field there was a tunnel that leads off the field and brought us out to the stadium entrance. There was an usher that was handing out free woman’s hockey tickets for the afternoon’s hockey game. The Gopher women’s hockey team was able to beat Syracuse 4-1. It was a fun and entertaining game. It was the first time that I had been in Ridder Arena. On the backside of Ridder Arena is the university tennis center. I walked around in there for a bit. That was the first time that I had been in either two of those arenas.
After I was done with tours I have to say I was pretty impressed with the new TCF Bank Stadium. That is a pretty cool complex.
