TAMARA MOORE NAMED HEAD MEN’S BASKETBALL AND SOFTBALL COACH AT MESABI RANGE COMMUNITY AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE
Tamara Moore has been named the head men’s basketball and women’s softball coach at Mesabi Range Community and Technical College. MRCTC is in Virginia, Minn.
Moore played basketball at Minneapolis North High School and graduated in 1998. After playing at North, she went on to play four years at the University of Wisconsin. While at Wisconsin she averaged 13.4 points per game.
After playing at Wisconsin Moore bounced around the WNBA, playing for seven different teams including the Minnesota Lynx.
After playing in the WNBA, Moore played for five seasons overseas.

MESABI RANGE WENT UP AGAINST RAINY RIVER IN A MEN’S BASKETBALL GAME
On March 1 Mesabi Range and Rainy River squared off in a men’s basketball game.
Both teams started in zone defense. Rainy River looked to take time off the shot clock as they passed the ball around the 3-point line.
Rainy River came up with layups and mid-range jump shots, they were able to get pas thet Mesabi Range defense.
Mesabi Range did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They passed the ball around and looked to take good shots.
The score went back and forth midway through the first half. There were several ties and lead changes.
Mesabi Range’s Kiewane Crodwer was able to get past the defense and came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. The defense had a hard time slowing him down. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball where he could shoot it.
Neither team went on a huge run in the first half. Both teams were evenly matched in the first half.
The Rainy River defense had a hard time slowing Crowder down. He came up with huge shots late in the first half that kept Rainy River in the game.
At halftime the score was Rainy River 34, Mesabi Range 33.
Rainy River started the second half in zone defense. They played zone mostly throughout the first half as well.
Rainy River stepped up their defensive intensity. They talked more on screens and were able to come up with steals.
Rainy River was able set the tempo in the second half. The guards Ahmad Poche and Samuel Stirgus both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
Mesabi Range looked to shoot 3-point baskets in the second half. If they thought that they could make the long shot they weren’t afraid to shoot it. Both teams went after the rebound.
Rainy Rivers Jammere Carlisle came up with 3 straight personal fouls. He kept his cool as he tried to plead his case to the official but to no luck. He stayed in the game.
Mesabi Range came up with some huge baskets on the offensive end late in the contest. They were able to come up with stops on the defensive end.
Mesabi Range came away with the 89-79 victory over Rainy River.
The leading scorers for Rainy River were Carlisle with 19 points, Strigus with 16 points and Poche with 11 points.
The leading scorers for Mesabi Range were Crowder with 25 points and Ken Manigat with 19 points.

MESABI RANGE TOOK ON CENTRAL LAKES IN A MENS BASKETBALL GAME
Mesabi Range and Central Lakes went up against each other in a mens basketball game. Central Lakes looked to get the ball down the floor and get layups early in the first half.
Central Lakes did a good job of getting the ball down the floor and scoring baskets in transition.
Mesabi Range did a good job of swinging the ball around the three-point line and taking time off the clock. Mesabi Range’s Bacarius Dinkins came up with mid-range jump shots in the first half. Central Lakes had a hard time slowing him down on offense.
Neither team went on a run in the first half. It took a while for each team to get into an offensive shooting rhythm. There were many ties and lead changes throughout the first half.
At halftime the score was Mesabi Range 39, Central Lakes 38.
As the second half got underway Dinkins continued hit his shots.
Central Lakes’ John Jedneak and Dannon Briggs came up with layups in the second half.
Central Lakes called a timeout with 11:16 left in regulation. The score was Central Lakes 54, Mesabi Range 48.
Mesabi Range’s Robert Littleton was able to hit shots in transition in the second half.
Mesabi Range called a timeout with 1:05 left in regulation. The score was Central Lakes 70, Mesabi Range 67.
In a close game Mesabi Range came away with the 73-70 victory over Central Lakes.
The leading scores for Mesabi Range were Dinkins with 27 points and Littleton with 15 points.
The leading scorer for Central Lakes was Jedneak with 14 points.
MESABI RANGE TOOK ON ANOKA RAMSEY IN A MENS BASKETBALL GAME
Mesabi Range and Anoka Ramsey went up against each other in a mens basketball game. The game got off to a quick start as each team raced up and down the floor looking for shots.
Mesabi Range looked to get the ball into the hands of Jamal Branco. Branco was able to come up with some deep three-point baskets.
The score went back and forth throughout the first half.
Anoka’s Trent Pollard found his mid-range touch as he stepped up and knocked down jump shots. If
Pollard wasn’t open he would get the ball to Lemuel Doe who stepped up and knocked down jump shots.
Anoka called a timeout with 7:25 left in the first half. The score was Mesabi Range 25, Anoka 24.
Neither team went on a run in the first half.
Anoka Ramsey was able to make layups late in the first half.
At halftime the score was tied at 38.
As the second half got underway the score continued to go back and forth. Neither team went on a run.
Both teams played well on the defensive end. Neither team gave up an open shot.
There were several ties and lead changes throughout the second half.
The game came down to the wire.
Anoka Ramsey came away with the 73-70 victory over Mesabi Range.
As a team Mesabi Range shot 26-64 from the field that included going 8-22 from behind the three-point line. They were 10-17 from the free throw line. They brought down a total of 39 rebounds 24 of them on the defensive end. They were lead in scoring by Branco with 21 points.
Anoka shot 32-67 from the field that included going 6-23 from behind the three-point line. They brought down a total of 30 rebounds 21 of them on the defensive end. Anoka was lead in scoring by Pollard with 27 points and Doe with 20 points.
MESABI RANGE TOOK ON SCTC IN A MENS BASKETBALL GAME
Mesabi Range went up against St. Cloud Technical College in a mens basketball game. Mesabi’s Cade Stackpool knocked down two deep three-pointers for his team’s first six points.
Mesabi started out in a zone defense. They looked to make SCTC shoot long shots. SCTC switched between man-to-man and zone defenses
There were many ties and lead changes throughout the first half.
Mesabi’s Robert Littleton and Bacarius Dinkins were able to hit mid-range jump shots in the first half. There teammates did a good job of getting them ball where they were able to hit shots.
SCTC was not afraid to shoot the deep three-point shot.
Mesabi’s Kenneth Delley came up with a one-handed slam dunk late in the first half that gave his team energy.
At halftime the score was Mesabi 34, SCTC 33.
Both teams pushed the ball down the floor as they traded baskets in the early goings.
Littleton came up with some deep three-point shots in the second half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball near the top of the key.
Mesabi came up with mid-range jump shots in the second half to keep them in the contest.
Mesabi called a timeout with 9:41 left in regulation. The score was Mesabi 52, SCTC 49.
Littleton came up with deep three-point baskets. If he didn’t think that he had an open shot Littleton was able to get the ball into the hands of his teammates.
There were many ties and lead changes late in contest.
Littleton drained a three-point shot with 1.5 seconds left in regulation. Mesabi came up with the 68-67 victory.
As a team St. Cloud Tech shot 25-69 from the field that included going 8-25 from behind the three-point line. They were 9-20 from the free throw line. As a team St. Cloud Tech brought down a total of 49 rebounds 35 of them on the defensive end. They were lead in scoring by Noonan with 19 points and Riley West with 15 points.
Mesabi shot 26-65 from the field that included going 8-26 from behind the three-point line. They were 8-26 from the three-point line. As a team Mesabi brought down a total of 39 rebounds 33 of them on the defensive end. The leading scorers for Mesabi were Littleton with 18 points, Dinkins with 14 points, and Branco with 11 points.

NORTHLAND TOOK ON MESABI RANGE IN THE MCAC CONSOLATION FINAL
Anoka Ramsey Community College hosted the 2012 Minnesota Community Athletic Conference State Tournament. In the consolation final Northland took on Mesabi Range Community College.
Mesabi Range started out in a zone defense. Both teams looked to get into their shooting rhythm early.
It took a while for each team to get used to what the other one was playing. Mesabi found the range early. Northland called a timeout with 16:58 left in the first half. The score was Mesabi Range 5 and Northland 0.
Both teams employed multiple defensive coverage changing between man-to-man and multiple zone settings on the defensive end.
Mesibi Range looked to get the ball inside to their bigs. While his teammates fed Torrie White in low block he was able to convert them into lay-ups from the low block. Torrie just brought his lunch and camped out in the low box area.
After Northland came to life midway through the first half, they went on a run. Mesabi Range didn't panic. Both teams stepped up their defensive pressure and neither team gave up easy baskets.
Mesabi Range stayed in the zone defense for a majority of the first half. They were affective in forcing Northland to shoot long range jump shots. Northland clawed their way back into the game. They were within one point with just under 4:00 left in the first half but Mesabi Range continued to attack the basket and were able to hit shots.
At halftime the score was Northland 26 and Mesabi Range 20.
Northland started the second half in a zone defense, it easy to understand since they were effective in the zone in the first half. Mesabi Range stayed in there zone defensive front as well. The score went back and forth throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run early in the half. They each did a good job of staying within themselves. Both teams traded baskets for a period of time.
Northland did a good job of looking for their shots in the second half. They swung the ball around the three-point line as they took time off the clock. Darris Washington did a good job of running the offense. Washington looked to get the ball into his center who took it hard to the basket.
Riverland called a timeout with 8:17 left in regulation. The score was Northland 48 and Mesabi Range 39. Mesabi Range looked to push the ball down the court. They also looked to score lay-ups in transition. Northland was able to keep up with Mesabi Range in transition.
Mesabi Range did a good job of penetrating the zone. They were able to get the ball into their big man. Riverland did a good job of adjusting in the zone defense when Mesabi Range swung the ball around the three-point line.
Northland was not afraid to shoot the ball from anywhere on the court. As the court opened up for them their players for able to get good looks at the basket.
Mesabi Range called a timeout with 3:23 left in regulation. The score was Northland 55 and Mesabi Range 51.
Coming out of the timeout Northland continued to burn the clock. Mesabi got out of the zone and went to a man-to-man defense in attempts to get some quick steals and easy baskets off of any turnovers.
The game came down to the wire. Both of these teams played hard throughout the game. Neither team gave up easy shots.
Northland came away with the 61-54 victory over Mesabi Range.
The leading scorers for Mesabi Range were Markees Walker with 12 points, and William Reyes, Jordan Deutsch and Nick Riley all with 8 points. They shot 20-56 from the field that included going 8-25 from behind the three-point line. They were 6-6 from the free throw line.
The leading scorers for Northland were Derrick Yeager with 16 points, Justin Knudson with 13 points and Dominic Long with 10 points. Northland shot 24-58 from the field that included going 6-18 from behind the three-point line. They shot 7-16 from the free throw line.
