On March 4 Park Center took on Champlin Park in a boys basketball Section 5, Class 4A game at Rogers High School.
Champlin Park started out in man-to-man defense. Park Center started in a zone defense.
Park Center came out cold. They were down 15-6 with 13:15 left in the first half.
Champlin Park switched between man-to-man and zone defense throughout the first half. On the offensive end they were able to get everyone involved in the offense as they swung the ball around the three-point line.
Champlin Park’s Jeremy Johnson came up with some huge mid-range jump shots.
Park Center’s Arione Farrar came up with some three-point shots that kept his team in the game. Farrar did a good job of running the offense. He knew where his teammates were supposed to be on the floor and was able to get them the ball.
After a slow start by Park Center they were down by two points with 10 minutes left in the first half.
Champlin Park’s McKinley Wright came up with some nice mid-range jump shots in the first half. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he had good looks at the basket.
Park Center’s Amani Hooker was all over the floor on both ends of the court. On the offensive end Hooker was able to get good looks at the basket and on the defensive end he was able to slow down the guy that he was guarding. His teammate Isaiah McKay also was able to come off picks and make mid-range jump shots.
Champlin Park called a timeout with 5:40 left in the first half. The score was Park Center 20, Champlin Park 19.
The score went back and forth throughout the first half, there were many ties and lead changes within the last five minutes of the game.
Champlin Park’s Jeremy Johnson was able to come up with a deep three-point basket late in the first half. His teammates were able to get him the ball where he could shoot it.
Park Center called a timeout with 2:22 left in the first half. The score was Champlin Park 27, Park Center 24.
Both teams played well throughout the first half. It took a while for Park Center to get its offense going, they started hitting their shots five minutes into the game.
The score at halftime was Champlin Park 34, Park Center 32.
The score continued to go back and forth throughout early in the second half.
Champlin Park’s Brennan Witt came up with mid-range jump shots that kept the game close. His teammate Alec Leabo was able to come up with a huge three-point basket.
Park Center called a timeout with 12:46 left in regulation. The score was Champlin Park 52, Park Center 43.
Park Center passed the ball around the three-point line to look for their shots.
Farrar came up with layups and was fouled, he stepped up and made his free throws.
Matthews came up with some nice jump shots in the second half. He was able to get hot.
Champlin Park called a timeout with 7:01 left in regulation. The score was Champlin Park 54, Park Center 53.
Champlin Park’s JT Gibson made his mid-range jump shots throughout the second half.
The score went back and forth throughout the second half. Neither team went on a run late in regulation.
Champlin Park’s Ian Smith stepped up big throughout the game. He was able to hit shots in traffic and behind the three-point shots.
Champlin Park called a timeout with 2:23 left in regulation. The score was Champlin Park 69, Park Center 65.
Park Center’s Elijah Wright came up with some big jump shots down the stretch.
Park Center went to a full court man-to-man press late in the game. They wanted to make it difficult for Champlin Park to bring it down the floor.
Champlin Park came away with the 79-71 victory over Park Center.
The leading scorers for Park Center were McKay with 21 points and Matthews with 18 points.
The leading scorers for Champlin Park were Smith with 25 points and Johnson with 19 points.
