HOLY FAMILY WENT UP AGAINST HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Dec. 17, Holy Family and Holy Angels went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. 

Holy Angels started the game in a zone defense. That made Holy Family pass the ball around the 3-point line. Holy Family also started the game in a zone defense. 

It took both teams a while to get into a shooting rhythm as neither team hit shots that they put up early. 

Holy Family got everyone involved in the offense They were not afraid to shoot the deep 3-point shot. Holy Family’s Nick Hendler, Jake Kirsch and Seth Thompson all came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. Holy Family knew where everyone was on the floor as they did a good job of communicating with each other on both ends of the floor. 

Holy Angels started out slow they were not able to find their shots early. Even though they struggled shooting the ball, they kept on looking for their shots. 

Holy Family took a lot of time off the clock as they passed the ball around the 3-point line and got everyone involved in the offense. 

Holy Family ran a motion offense as they did a lot of passing and cutting without the ball. Everyone touched the ball when Holy Family was on offense. 

Holy Angels wasn’t afraid to shoot 3-point shots. They rebounded the ball well. After a slow start by Holy Angels in the first half, they found their shooting rhythm with just under 7:00 left in the first half. That didn’t seem to faze Holy Family at all as they kept the defensive pressure on Holy Angels. 

Hendler kept on coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. The defensive pressure that Holy Angels applied didn’t seem to bother Hendler at all. 

Holy Angels’ Emmett Johnson took mid-range jump shots and layups. He was able to come off screens and took the ball hard to the basket through traffic. 

Holy Family’s Cavin Lund knocked down 3-point shots that kept Holy Family in the game. If Lund didn’t think that he had an open look at a shot, he would pass it to one of his teammates. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 3:19 left in the first half. The score was Holy Family 26, Holy Angels 16. 

Holy Angels looked to push the ball down the floor and score layups in transition. After a slow start, the Holy Angels offense started to make their shots. That didn’t slow down Holy Family from looking for their shots and making them. 

Holy Angels went to a match-up zone late in the first half. They wanted to make it hard for Holy Family to make shots. 

At halftime, the score was tied at 31.

As the second half got underway both teams continued to attack the basket. 

Holy Angels’ Matt Banovetz came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Holy Family called a timeout with 16:11 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 38, Holy Family 34. 

Holy Family passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to take time off the clock.

Holy Angles played mostly a 2-3 zone the whole game. Holy Family also played a 2-3 zone on the defensive end. 

In the second half Holy Family relied heavily on the 3-point shot. The zone defense didn’t give Holy Family any problem. They kept on passing the ball around the 3-point line and shooing it. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 9:41 left in regulation. The score was Holy Family 51, Holy Angels 47. 

Banovetz, Johnson and Boyd all came up with shots for Holy Angels in the second half. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the second half. Neither team went on a significant run in the second half. 

Holy Family called a timeout with 5:58 left in regulation. The score was Holy Family 57, Holy Angels 53.

Holy Family kept attacking the basket and coming up with baskets late in the game. 

Holy Angels kept on coming up with shots late in the game they kept on chipping away at the deficit. 

Holy Family called a timeout with 2:19 left in regulation. The score was Holy Family 66, Holy Angels 64. 

After the timeout, both teams raced down the floor and made layups. 

Holy Family called a timeout with 24.6 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 68, Holy Family 66. 

Holy Angels Bryce Boyd came up with steals and layups late in the game. 

In a hard-fought game, Holy Angels came way away with the 72-67 victory over Holy Family. 

The leading scorers for Holy Family were Thompson with 13 points, Stoffel with 13 points and Hendler with 12 points. 

The leading scorers for Holy Angels were Banovetz with 21 points, Johnson with 18 points and Boyd with 16 points.
