MINNEAPOLIS DELASALLE WENT UP AGAINST THE ACADEMY OF HOLY ANGELS IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Jan. 31, Minneapolis DeLaSalle and Academy of Holy Angels in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game DeLaSalle had a record of 12-2 while Holy Angels had a record of 11-5. 

DeLaSalle started the game in a man-to-man defense They wanted to pressure Holy Angels in taking deep shots.

It took each team a while to get into an offensive shooting rhythm. 

Holy Angels took time off the clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line. Holy Angels Matt Banovetz came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. 

Holy Angels Emmett Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. 

There were multiple ties and lead changes early. 

Holy Angels Nate Kesti came up with shots. He found his shot early in the half. He also knew where his teammates were on the floor and got them the ball in spots where they could shoot it. 

DeLaSalle’s Ami Everett came off the bench and looked to provide an offensive spark. 

Holy Angels looked to get steals on defense and turn them into layups on the offensive end. 

DeLaSalle’s Keijuan White stepped up and knocked down mid-range jump shots and layups. He was able to come off screens and get to the basket. 

Holy Angels Terrence Roberts used his quickness to get past the DeLaSalle defense. On the defensive end, Roberts was able to slow the guy down that he was guarding. 

Holy Angels Banovetz and Johnson both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups 

Cade Haskins was called for a technical foul with 8:12 left in the first half. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 8:12 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 21, DeLaSalle 16. 

Holy Angels passed the ball around the 3-point line and looked to get everyone involved in the offense. Holy Angels did a good job of passing the ball around the 3-point line and taking shots that they thought that they could make.

Holy Angels Johnson came up with steals and was able to make layups on the offensive end. 

DeLaSalle called a timeout with 3:16 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 27, DeLaSalle 19. 

DeLaSalle passed the ball around the 3-point line getting into their offense. 

Holy Angels went to zone defense as DeLaSalle passed the ball around the 3-point line. 

Matt Benovetz scored his 1000 point on a jump shot with 1:27 left in the first half. 

DeLaSalle attacked the basket late in the first half. 

At halftime, the score was Holy Angels 32, DeLaSalle 24. 

As the second half got underway DeLaSalle continued to push the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition. 

DeLaSalle’s Semaj Hart came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates knew where he was on the floor and got him the ball where he could shoot it.

Holy Angels called a timeout with 13:33 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 38, DeLaSalle 34. 

Holy Angels was able to make layups in transition. Banovetz came up with shots in the second half. 

The DeLaSalle offense got clicking with just under 12:00 left in regulation. They were able to make  shots in traffic. 

DeLaSalle passed the ball around the 3-point line and got everyone involved in the offense. They looked to take a lot of time off the clock on the offensive end. 

DeLaSalle was able to make fast-break layups in transition. DeLaSallle’s Haskins stepped up and knocked down deep 3-point shots. 

DeLaSalle went to a motion offense they passed and cut and looked to confuse the Holy Angels defense. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 6:49 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 44, Holy Angels 41.

There were multiple ties and lead changes late in the game. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 6:17 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 44, Holy Angels 41. 

DeLaSalle passed the ball around the 3-point line late to take time off the clock and get into their offense. Holy Angels went to a zone defense that made hole in the defense. 

Banovetz kept Holy Angels in the game by stepping up and making shots down the stretch. Teammate Terrence Roberts also came up with layups in traffic late in the game. 

The game came down to the wire. Both teams played well throughout the game. Neither team gave up an easy shot. 

DeLaSalle called a timeout with 51.3 seconds left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 55, Holy Angels 51.

Banovetz came up with a steal and then came up with the deep 3-point shot. 

Holy Angels called a timeout with 28.5 seconds left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 56, Holy Angels 54. 

Holy Angels Johnson came up with a layup that tied the game. 

DeLaSalle called a timeout with 1.6 seconds left in regulation. The score was tied at 56.

DeLaSalle’s Haskins came up with a deep 3-point shot at the buzzer for the win. 

DeLaSalle came away with the 59-56 victory over Holy Angels. 

The leading scorers for DeLaSalle were Haskins with 20 points, Travis with 12 points, and White with 9 points. 

The leading scorers for Holy Angels were Banovetz with 26 points, Johnson with 14 points and Kesti with 8 points.
