On Feb. 4, Fridley and the Academy of Holy Angels went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game Fridley had a record of 9-8 while Holy Angels was 12-6.
Fridley won the tip. Holy Angels started in a zone defense. Fridley looked to pressure the ball full court. Fridley started the game in a zone defense. Holy Angels passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to get everyone involved in the offense early.
Holy Angels looked to get the ball inside to Bryce Boyd. Boyd looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups. They were also able to get steals on the defensive end and turn them into layups on the offensive end. Holy Angels Matt Banovetz came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
Fridley called a timeout with 14:29 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 14, Fridley 3.
Out of the timeout, Fridley looked to pick up the energy on both ends of the floor. Fridley’s Christian Crockett came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He was able to get past the Holy Angels defense.
Holy Angels Emmett Johnson was all over the floor. On the offensive end, he looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. On the defensive end, he was able to slow the guy down that he was guarding.
Both teams went after rebounds on both ends of the floor. Neither team gave up an uncontested shot on either end of the floor.
Fridley’s Isaac Burns came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. Fridley did a good job of getting everyone involved in the offense. They talked well to each other and knew where everyone was. They just struggled shooting the ball.
Fridley called a timeout with 9:55 left in the first half. The score was Holy Angels 27, Fridley 11.
Holy Angels did a good job of coming off screens and getting to the basket.
Holy Angels Emmett Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He kept his team in the game. Teammate Connor O’Rourke came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
Holy Angels came up with layups in transition. They were able to slow down Fridley on the offensive end.
Holy Angels was able to get to the basket and come up with shots throughout the first half. Boyd and Johnson both attacked the basket and found a way to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. Nate Kasti came up with 3-point baskets in the first half for Holy Angels as well.
Banovetz kept on coming up with layups and mid-range jump shots late in the game.
Fridley struggled to shoot the ball throughout the first half. Even though that they struggled shooting the ball they kept on shooting it throughout the first half.
At halftime the score was Holy Angels 49, Fridley 23.
As the second half got underway Fridley continued to move the ball down the floor and looked to score layups in transition.
Holy Angels came out again in their zone defense. Fridley struggled throughout the game in the zone defense. They were not able to come up with shots against the zone.
Both teams played on as it was early in the second half.
Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the second half. Holy Angels did a good job of getting everyone involved offensively.
Fridley’s Micha Niewald came up with 3-point shots and mid-range jump shots and layups late in the second half.
Holy Angels called a timeout with 13:00 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 61, Fridley

Fridley’s Terell Davis looked to get his jump shot and mid-range jump shot to drop in the second half.
Davis wasn’t afraid to pass it off to one of his teammates if he didn’t think that he had a good look at the basket.
Holy Angels called a timeout with 10:01 left in regulation. The score was Holy Angels 66, Fridley 43.
Holy Angels Joe Oberst came up with shots in the second half. Teammates Banovetz and Johnson continued to come up with shots as well.
Crockett came up with 3-point shots in the second half. He wasn’t afraid to shoot the ball if he thought that he had an open look at the basket.
Both teams continued to dive on the floor after loose balls and rebounds.
Fridley struggled shooting the ball throughout the game. Even though Fridley couldn’t make shots that they put up they didn’t back down from Holy Angels. Both teams fought hard throughout the game.
Holy Angels came away with the 83-66 victory over Fridley.
The leading scorers for Fridley were Ruei with 18 points, Burnes with 11 points, and Stevenson with 10 points.
The leading scorers for Holy Angels were Banovetz with 26 points, and Johnson with 2 points.
