On Feb. 17 Twin Cities Academy/Great River went up against Hiawatha Academy in a boys’ basketball game.
Hiawatha started in a zone defense. TCAGR passed the ball around the 3-point line looking for their shots.
TCAGR looked to take their time on the offensive end by passing the ball around the 3-point line as well.
TCAGR used a man-to-man defense early. They wanted to make Hiawatha take contested shots.
Hiawatha struggled shooting the ball early. They kept everyone involved in the offense by passing the ball to each other.
TCAGR’s A.K. Avwunuma came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. Teammate
Hiawatha called a timeout with 12:34 left in the first half. The score was TCAGR 12, Hiawatha 1.
Hiawatha’s Jessye Lewis Jr. looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.
TCAGR looked to score layups in transition.
Hiawatha’s Romelle Bell looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
Hiawatha called a timeout with 9:44 left in the first half. The score was TCAGR 20, Hiawatha 1.
TCAGR looked to score layups in transition.
Hiawatha’s Lewis came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He was able to get his teammates involved in the offense. On the defensive end, he was able to slow down his defenders.
The Hiawatha offense came to life with just under 8:00 to go in the first half. Hiawatha did a good job of moving the ball around and getting everyone involved in the offense.
Even though that Hiawatha struggled shooting the ball they kept on attacking the rim and looking for their shots.
Lewis came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the first half. The defense had a difficult time slowing him down.
TCAGR’s Marcellus Johnson came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half. He was able to come off screens and come up with shots.
Hiawatha’s Lamar Wright came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
Hiawatha pushed the ball down the floor and looked for layups in transition. On the defensive end, Hiawatha was a little hesitant because they didn’t want to get called for personal fouls.
Wright got hot late in the first half. He stepped up and knocked down jump shots and layups.
Hiawatha’s Jaheim Houts came up with layups in traffic. He was fouled and was able to knock down free throws.
TCAGR called a timeout with 1:39 left in the first half. The score was TCAGR 33, Hiawatha 17.
After the timeout, TCAGR continued to attack the basket and come up with shots.
At halftime, the score was TCAGR 40, Hiawatha 19.
As the second half got underway TCAGR continued to move the ball down the floor and come up with shots. TCAGR looked to get the ball into the hands of Carrington McNeal and Carmello McNeal. Both McNeals came up with mid-range jump shots and layups throughout the game.
Carrington McNeal got past the defense and was able to come up with shots. The defense had a hard time slowing him down.
TCAGR called a timeout with 15:14 left in regulation. The score was TCAGR 48, Hiawatha 21.
Hiawatha struggled shooting the ball throughout the game. They didn’t give up however as they kept on looking for their shots.
Hiawatha called a timeout with 13:41 left in the regulation. The score was TCAGR 53, Hiawatha 21.
TCAGR did a good job of keeping everyone involved in the offense. They talked well on both ends of the floor and they knew where the defenders were always on the floor.
TCAGR called a timeout with 11:57 left in regulation. The score was TCAGR 57, Hiawatha 28.
Hiawatha went to a zone defense as they wanted to slow down the TCAGR offense. However, TCAGR was able to get past the defense and came up with shots.
Hiawatha’s Romelle Bell came up with steals and layups midway through the second half. His teammates were able to get him the ball where he could shoot it.
Both teams went after loose balls and rebounds in the second half. Neither team gave up an uncontested shot.
Even though Hiawatha struggled shooting the ball throughout the game they didn’t lose their cool as they kept on shooting it.
Hiawatha called a timeout with 7:05 left in regulation. The score was TCAGR 69, Hiawatha 34.
Both teams kept on fighting for the ball and going up after shots on both ends of the floor. Hiawatha came up with steals on the defensive end and turned them into layups on the offensive end late in the game.
James Williams-Brown came up with deep 3-point shots late in the game. The defense couldn’t slow him down.
In a hard-fought game between both teams, TCAGR came up with the 77-46 victory over Hiawatha.
The leading scorers for TCAGR were Carmello McNeal with 17 points, Carrington McNeal with 14 points, and A.K. Avwunuma with 13 points.
The leading scorers for Hiawatha Bell with 16 points and Lewis with 7 points.
