MARANATHA CHRISTIAN ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS NORTH IN A BOYS BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 1, Maranatha and Minneapolis North went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Maranatha came in with a record of 10-7 while North’s record was 10-5.

Maranatha started the game in a zone defense. They wanted to make North pass the ball around the 3-point line and take time off the clock.

North looked to push the ball down the floor and score layups in transition. North swung the ball around the 3-point line and got everyone involved in the offense.

Maranatha looked to score layups in transition. David Ross brought the ball down the floor and was able to get his teammates involved in the offense.

Neither team got their offense going early. The zone defenses made it difficult for both teams to make shots. 

North called a timeout with 14:10 left in the first half. The score was tied at 2.

North’s Jacob Butler came up with deep 3-point shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

The defensive pressure that North applied made it difficult for Maranatha to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Maranatha struggled shooting the ball for a period in the first half. Even though they struggled shooting the ball they kept on taking shots.

Butler came up with mid-range jump shots and 3-point shots. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

North’s Quientrail Jamison-Travis came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. He was also able to come off screens and get to the basket.

Maranatha’s Hakim Daniels came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. Even though North was quicker than Maranatha on both ends of the floor. Maranatha came up with steals and layups.

Both teams took the ball strong to the basket. Maranatha didn’t give up on the offensive end. They kept on shooting the ball and looking for their shots.

Maranatha called a timeout with 6:56 left in the first half. The score was North 15, Maranatha 10.

North looked to make fast-break layups in transition. They were quicker than Maranatha.

Wilson came up with steals and slam dunks late in the first half. Teammate Butler kept on coming up with deep 3-point shots late in the first half.

Daniels kept on making 3-point shots to keep Maranatha in the game.

The first half went back and forth. Neither team went on a significant run.

At halftime, the score was Maranatha 28, North 22.

Maranatha’s Hakim Daniels continued to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it. If Daniels didn’t think that he had a good shot, he wasn’t afraid to pass it to one of his teammates.

Maranatha got their shots to drop early in the second half. They were able to frustrate North on both ends of the floor.

Maranatha called a timeout with 13:21 left in regulation. The score was Maranatha 34, North 29.

Both teams continued to push the ball down the floor and looked for their shots.

Maranatha continued to move the ball down the floor and came up with layups. 

North continued to take the ball hard to the basket. They didn’t back down.

North called a timeout with 10:40 left in regulation. The score was Maranatha 36, North 33.

The score went back and forth midway through the second half. Neither team went on a significant run.

 There were multiple ties and lead changes throughout the second half.  The score continued to go back and forth late in the game.

Wilson came up with big shots late in the second half. The game came down to the wire.

North’s De’Meiko Anderson came up jump shots and layups late in the game.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. North used their quickness late in the game to get to the basket and came up with shots.

North came away with the 62-50 victory over Maranatha.

The leading scorer for Maranatha was Daniels with 28 points.

The leading scorers for North were Townley with 16 points, Wilson with 14 points, and De'Meiko Anderson with 12 points.
