FRIDLEY WENT UP AGAINST MINNEAPOLIS DELASALLE IN A BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On Feb. 13, Fridley and Minneapolis DeLaSalle went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game. Going into the game Fridley had a record of 10-10 while DeLaSalle’s record was 16-3.

 DeLaSalle won the toss. Fridley started the game in a zone defense. DeLaSalle also started the game in a zone defense.

Fridley passed the ball around the 3-point line as they took time off the clock and got into their offense. Fridley used a motion offense as they passed and cut and set a lot of screens and got everyone involved.

Fridley looked to take deep 3-point shots on the offensive end of the floor as well. 

DeLaSalle’s Cade Haskins looked to come off screens and take mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates got him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

The game was very physical from the start as both teams went after the ball and rebounds on both ends of the floor.

Fridley’s Isaac Burns came up with steals and layups on the offensive end. Burns took the ball strong to the basket. He didn’t care if the defense tried to slow him down, he took the ball strong to the basket and came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

There were multiple ties and lead changes in the first half.

Fridley’s Yoal Ruei came up with layups in the paint. His teammates got him the ball as he came off screens in the paint.

Burns and Ruei both came up with shots in the first half. They knew where their teammates were on the floor and their teammates knew where they were, and they got them the ball in spots where they could both get good looks at the basket. Fridley did a good job of communicating on both ends of the floor.

Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls in the first half.

Fridley called a timeout with 10:34 left in the first half. The score was Fridley 16, DeLaSalle 11.

After the timeout, Fridley kept on attacking the basket as they got everyone involved in the offense.

DeLaSalle’s offense came to light after that timeout as well as they attacked the basket and came up with shots. Haskins, Semaj Hart, Amir Whitlock all came up with shots.

Fridley called a timeout with 8:07 left in the first half. The score was DeLaSalle 17, Fridley 16.

DeLaSalle went to a full-court press as they were able to put pressure on the ball and tried to force Fridley to turn the ball over.

DeLaSalle’s Evan Boyd stepped up and knocked down 3-point shots and mid-range jump shots to keep DeLaSalle in the game.

DeLaSalle called a timeout with 5:45 left in the first half. The score was Fridley 23, DeLaSalle 22.

DeLaSalle looked to take time off the clock by swinging the ball around the 3-point line and setting screens on the top of the key.

Fridley’s Crockett came up with layups in transition. Fridley wasn’t afraid to share the ball on the offensive end. If someone didn’t think that they had a good shot, they would pass it off to one of their teammates.

Whitlock came up with fast-break layups late in the first half. He was able to get past the Fridley defense. Whitlock was also able to knock down 3-point shots as well.

There were multiple ties and lead changes late in the first half. Neither team went on a significant run in the first half.

Haskins took the ball strong to the basket and fought for his shot. He wasn’t afraid of contact on the offensive end.

DeLaSalle wasn’t afraid to take 3-point shots and crash the boards late in the first half. Evan Boyd knocked down 3-point shots late in the first half as well.

At halftime, the score was DeLaSalle 37, Fridley 29.

As the second half got underway DeLaSalle continued to get Haskins, Whitlock, and Hart the ball. They all three looked to come up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

DeLaSalle’s Jalen Travis came up with layups in the paint. He did a good job of calling for the ball on the low block. His teammates got him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Hart got hot in the second half. His mid-range jump shot and 3-point shots were dropping for him. The defense had a tough time slowing him down.

Fridley called a timeout with 15:00 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 47, Fridley 32.

Multiple DeLaSalle players came up with steals on the defensive end and were able to turn them into layups on the offensive end.

Whitlock took the ball strong to the basket as he looked to make mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates were able to get him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Fridley struggled shooting the ball in the second half. They were not able to come up with shots that they took throughout the half. Even though Fridley struggled shooting the ball, they kept on shooting the ball.

Burns came up with layups in the second half. He wasn’t afraid to take the ball strong to the basket throughout the second half.

DeLaSalle’s Amir Everett received a technical foul with 11:30 left in regulation.

Burns came up with jump shots and layups throughout the second half. He kept Fridley in the game.

DeLaSalle’s White came up with layups and jumpshots in the second half. His teammates got him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

Haskins kept on knocking down 3-point shots in the second half.

DeLaSalle was able to frustrate Fridley on the offensive end. The Fridley offense sputtered in the second half. Even with the sputtering offense, Fridley kept on attacking the basket and looking for their shots.

DeLaSalle called a timeout with 6:12 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 68, Fridley 55.

Whitlock and Haskins came up with shots throughout the second half.

Fridley stepped up and knocked down shots late in the game however that wasn’t enough.

Fridley called a timeout with 1:57 left in regulation. The score was DeLaSalle 78, Fridley 68.

Haskins came up with layups late in the game to keep the DeLaSalle fans in the game.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. DeLaSalle came away with the 85-75 victory over Fridley.

The leading scorers for Fridley were Ruei with 24 points, Burns with 20 points, Crockett with 13 points, Micah Niewald with 12 points and Davis with 6 points.

The leading scorers for DeLaSalle were Haskins with 24 points, Whitlock 19 points, White with 11 points, Travis with 10 points, Boyd and Hart each with 9 points and Everett with 3 points.
