Norwood-Young America H.S. went up against Sauk Centre in a Class 2A state quarterfinals.
Norwood-Young America looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition.
Norwood-Young America’s guard Kaylie Brazil came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
The score went back and forth throughout the half. There were several ties and lead changes throughout. Neither team went on a huge run in the first half.
Norwood-Young America called a timeout with 8:48 left in the first half. The score was Sauk Centre 19, Norwood-Young America 13.
Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and rebounds. They also did a good job of sharing the ball. There was very even scoring by both teams.
At halftime the score was Sauk Centre 29, Norwood-Young America 24.
As the second half got underway Sauk Centre continued to push the ball down the floor as they looked to score baskets in transition.
Sauk Centre came out firing on all cylinders.
Norwood-Young America called a timeout with 10:57 left in regulation. The score was Sauk Centre 50, Norwood-Young America 37.
Sauk Centre’s Kelsey Peschel, Madison Greenwaldt and Jill Klaphake all shot the ball well throughout the game. They came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.
Norwood-Young America continued get their shots to fall in the second half.
Sauk Centre came away with the 67-45 victory over Norwood-Young America.
The leading scorers for Sauk Centre were Peschel with 17points, Klaphake with 11 points and Greenwaldt with 10 points.
The leading scorers for Norwood-Young America were Grimm with 12 points and Karnes with 9 points.
