IN THE FINAL GAME ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE 2008 PREP BOWL IT IS BLAINE AGAINST WAYZATA

The big boys are set to take the field here in the class AAAAA State Championships. As this game gets underway, the Metro Dome seats are starting to fill. There is a much bigger crowd here than the rest of the day. That would be expected as it is the Class 5A and they draw the biggest crowds.

As this game gets going, Wayzata got the ball to start this game off. They are going to try all of the plays early to get Blaine off kilter. Wayzata is on the board, as Fritz Rock has just caught an 17 yard touchdown pass, with 7:17 left to go in the first quarter. The extra point attempt was good. With that touchdown and extra point successful, the score is now Wayzata 7 and Blaine 0.
Blaine got the ball on the kick off after the Wayzata touchdown and they clearly want a score. They are playing really aggressive to start this game off.


Blaine's got the ball and they are charging down the field. Blaine's Nick Rusin has just came up with a big catch in the red zone. James Peterson got a 3 yard touchdown and the extra point was good. With 2:56 left to go in the first quarter, the score is tied at 7.


Blaine is kicking off after that touchdown. Wayzata now has the ball back and they are looking to do something with it. Wayzata has been able to get the ball in different player's hands. There have been 6 different rushers for Wayzata.

At the end of the first quarter, the score is tied at 7.

Wayzata has the ball to start the second quarter. Wayzata is looking to score. They have been looking strong here but they fumble and Blaine recovers the football.

Blaine is driving the ball and they have fumbled the ball and Wayzata picks it up. Wayzata now has the ball. Wayzata just got another touchdown on a Jamenson Macgregor touchdown. The extra point was blocked.

Blaine got the ball back after that Wayzata touchdown. They are looking to score, on what might be the last play of the quarter. In a game that can go either way, we have reached half time. At half time, the score is Blaine 7 and Wayzata 13.

In the first half of this game, Blaine had 30 offensive plays for 131 yards and Wayzata had 31 plays for 185 yards. The top rusher for Wayzata is Garrett Engelhardt. He had 5 carries for a total of 53 yards.

As the third quarter gets under way, Wayzata has the ball and looks to score again. They have played well here in this game. They have to keep pursuit on Blaine if they want to come away with the victory tonight.

Fritz Rock for Wayzata has really played well here. He has stepped up big time here. He is just so tough and a strong player in this game. He has been able to elude his defenders all night long. He has just been amazing to watch. Wayzata has just had to punt the ball away. With 7:35 left to go, the score is Wayzata 13 and Blaine 7.

Blaine has the ball back. Deven King just found a big hole and just had a 17 yard run to give them some light. After that play, he got hit hard and has to be helped off the field. After he was helped off, they continued playing but had to punt the ball to Wayzata. Cecil Doe has just caught a nice long bomb that has given Wayzata another first down. Wayzata is looking to keep this drive alive. They have been pretty impressive in this game tonight but don't count Blaine out of this game yet. They are still in this game. Fritz rock just got another touchdown here and the extra point was good.

At the end of the end of the third quarter, the score is Blaine 7 and Wayzata 20.

Wayzata is knocking on the door again and they find it, as Chris Kroeten just found the end zone on a three yard run in the fourth quarter. The extra point is good and now that makes the score Blaine 7 and Wayzata 27. There is now 9:42 left to go in the game.

Blaine has the ball back after the Wayzata Trojan touchdown. Blaine has not been able to do anything with the ball on this drive. Wayzata takes over on downs, with 5:13 left to go in the game.

The final of the game was Wayzata 27 and Blaine 7. Wayzata ended up having 21 first downs and Blaine ended up with 12 first downs. Blaine had a total of 243 total offensive yards and Wayzata had a total of 344 total offensive yards.

Both teams have played a good tough hard fought game tonight, but in the end Wayzata has come away with the victory are now the 2008 Minnesota State High School League Class AAAAA state champions.
