HENNING WENT UP AGAINST NORTH WOODS IN THE CLASS A BOYS’ BASKETBALL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME

March 23 was championship Saturday at the Target Center for the Minnesota State High School League boys’ basketball state tournament. In Class A Henning went up against North Woods.

North Woods looked to attack the basket early. They passed the ball around the 3-point line and pushed the ball down the floor and looked to score baskets in transition.

Henning’s Parker Fraki came up with mid-range jump shots and layups early. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

There was a media timeout with 14:47 left in the first half. The score was Henning 8, North Woods 2.

Henning did a good job of passing the ball around the 3-point line. They took their time on the offensive end. They also were able to get past the North Woods defense early.

North Woods called a timeout with 12:44 left to go in the first half. The score was Henning 10, Northwoods 4.

Henning used their quickness to get past the defense.

Northwoods kept on driving to the basket and looking for their shots.

Henning’s Cade Goggleye was all over the floor. On the offensive end he came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. The Northwoods defense had a hard time slowing him down.

Fraki kept on coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

There was a media timeout with 9:30 left in the first half. The score was Henning 17, Northwoods 9.

Northwoods went into a scoring drought in the first half. They couldn’t make the shot that they were looking for.

North Woods wasn’t afraid to shoot the deep 3-point shot. They would go over rebounds on both ends of the floor.

Henning’s Fraki and Goggleye kept on making shots late in the first half. They were able to make mid-range jump shots and layups. Their teammates did a good job of getting them the ball in spots where they could shoot it.

North Woods had a difficult time shooting the ball late in the first half. They kept on shooting it however even though they couldn’t hit shots consistently.

At halftime the score was Henning 36, North Woods 17.

As the second half got underway both teams came out firing on all cylinders.

Henning continued to put pressure on North Woods throughout the second half.

There was a media timeout with 14:43 left in the second half. The score was Henning 42, North Woods 22.

Henning was to quick for North Woods throughout the game. North Woods didn’t give up, however. They kept on fighting throughout the second half.

Henning took a 30-second timeout with 12:12 left in regulation. The score was Henning 45, North Woods 29.

Henning tried to take time off the clock on the offensive end by swinging the ball around the 3-point line. They got everyone involved in the offense.

There was a media timeout with 9:31 left in regulation. The score was Henning 50, North Woods 32.

Sam Fisher and Parker Fraki both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. Neither team gave up. Even though North Woods struggled shooting the ball they kept attacking the basket late in the game.

North Woods tried to make deep three-point shots late in the game.

Henning used their quickness to get to the basket.

Henning came away with the 67-42 victory over North Woods.

The leading scorers for North Woods were Trevor Morrison with 11 points and Case Kleppe with 10 points.

The leading scorer for Henning was Sam Fisher with 22 points.


MINNEAPOLIS NORTH WENT UP AGAINST PERHAM IN THE CLASS AA STATE BOYS’ BASKETBALL SEMIFINAL GAME

On March 23, Minneapolis North and Perham went up against each other in a boys’ basketball game.

North looked to take their time on the offensive end. They swung the ball around the 3-point line and were able to get everyone involved in the offense.

It took a while for each team to get into an offensive shooting rhythm. Both teams took a lot of time off the clock.

There was a media timeout with 14:06 left in the first half. The score was North 3, Perham 2.

Perham also took a lot of time off the clock early in the first half.

North’s Eli Campbell came up with layups and mid-range jump shots. Teammate Willie Wilson came up with 3-point shots.

North got hot midway through the first half. They were able to slow down the Perham on the offensive end.

There was a media timeout with 7:52 left in the first half. The score was North 21, Perham 4.

North continued to push the ball down the floor. Perham didn’t get bothered by not making shots. They kept on shooting the ball.

North called a timeout with 5:25 left in the first half. The score was North 23, Perham 6.

Both teams went after rebounds on both ends of the floor.

There was a media timeout with 3:11 left in the first half. The score was North 27, Perham 11.

North used their quickness to get to the basket. They were able to get everyone involved in the offense. North was also able to communicate well on both ends of the floor.

North’s Nasir El-Amin came up with mid-range jump shots and layups late in the first half.

At halftime, the score was North 31, Perham 15.

As the second half got underway North continued to look to get to the basket.

North continued to push the ball down the floor late in the game.

North was too quick for Perham. Perham struggled shooting the ball throughout the second half.

Both teams played hard throughout the game. North was able to get their offense going early. Perham didn’t quit, even though they had a difficult time shooting the ball they still played hard throughout the game.

North came away with the 62-46 victory over Perham.

The leading scores for Perham were Josh Jeziorski with 15 points, Finn Diggins with 14 points and Jenson Beachy with 11 points.

The leading scorers for North were Nasir El-Amin with 13 points, Davon Townley with 12 points, Willie Wilson with 11 points and Eli Campbell with 10 points.
 

MINNEHAHA ACADEMY WENT UP AGAINST LAKE CITY IN THE CLASS AA STATE SEMIFINAL BOYS’ BASKETBALL GAME

On March 22, Minnehaha Academy and Lake City squared up against each other in the boys’ basketball Class AA State Semifinal game. The game was played at the Target Center. Both teams had the same overall record of 27-2.

Lake City looked to push the ball down the floor and score baskets in transition. They were patient on the offensive end.

Minnehaha looked to get the ball into the hands of Jalen Suggs and Siegel Howard. Minnehaha got on a roll as they strung together six points on layups off steals.

Lake City called a timeout with 14:18 left in the first half. The score was Minnehaha 9, Lake City 2.

Lake City’s Reid Gastner came up with some big shots midway through the first half.

Minnehaha kept attacking the basket and coming up with mid-range jump shots and layups.

There was a media timeout with 9:51 left in the first half. The score was Minnehaha 20, Lake City 8.

Minnehaha’s Chet Holmgren came up with rebounds on both ends of the floor.

Lake City’s Nathan Heise came up with mid-range jump shots and layups in the first half.


There was a media timeout with 5:26 left in the first half. The score was Minnehaha Academy 35, Lake City 15.

Suggs took the ball hard to the basket as he came up with layups in transition.

There was a media timeout with 3:42 left in the first half. The score was Minnehaha 37, Lake City 17.

Both teams continued to move the ball down the floor and looked for transition baskets.

Gastner came up with huge 3-point baskets late in the first half.

At halftime the score was Minnehaha 43, Lake City 24.

As the second half got underway Lake City continued to look to score baskets. The defensive pressure that Minnehaha applied made it difficult for Lake City to get open looks at the basket.

There was a media timeout with 14:03 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 50, Lake City 30.

Minnehaha continued to move the ball well down the floor.

Lake City called a timeout with 12:54 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 56, Lake City 30.

Lake City continued to struggle to shoot the ball in the second half.

There was a media timeout with 10:03 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 62, Lake City 35.

Minnehaha kept on moving the ball down the floor.

There was a media timeout with 6:45 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 71, Lake City 45.

Chet Holmgren came up with slam dunks and layups late in the game.

Minnehaha was too quick for Lake City. Lake City had a tough time making shots.

There was a media timeout with 3:15 left in regulation. The score was Minnehaha 79, Lake City 48.

Lake City couldn’t make shots throughout the game. Minnehaha came away with the 82-52 victory over Lake City.


The leading scorers for Lake City were Reid Gastner with 21 points and Nathan Heise with 16 points.

The leading scorers for Minnehaha were Suggs with 24, and Chet Holmgren with 23 points.

ADA-BORUP WENT UP AGAINST NORTH WOODS IN THE CLASS A BOYS’ STATE SEMIFINAL GAME

On March 22, Ada-Borup and North Woods squared off in the Class A boys’ basketball state semifinal game.

Both teams raced down the floor trying to make shots. Ada-Borup looked to make baskets in transition.

Ada-Borup looked to get the ball into the hands of Verdis Barber. Barber was able to get to the basket and make mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

There was a media timeout with 14:37 left in the first half. The score was Ada-Borup 6, North Woods 2.


North Woods looked to trap Ada-Borup as they brought the ball down the floor. Ada-Borup was able to break the press and make layups in transition.

There were multiple ties and lead changes early. Neither team went on a huge run.

North Woods pushed the ball down the floor and made layups in transition.

Both teams were not afraid to shoot the deep 3-point shots.

There was a media timeout with 10:33 left in the first half. The score was North Woods 15, Ada-Borup 14.

Northwood’s Cade Goggleye came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. On the defensive end Goggleye came up with stops.

North Woods trapped Ada-Borup in the corners that made Ada-Borup turn the ball over.

It was a very physical first half. Both teams dove on the floor after loose balls and rebounds. There were multiple jump balls in the first half.

Ada-Borup came up with steals and was able to convert the steals to layup on the offensive end.

Ada-Borup continued to look for their shots late in the first half. The defensive pressure that North Woods applied made it difficult for them to get an open look at the basket.

SPRING GROVE WENT UP AGAINST HENNING IN THE CLASS A BOYS’ STATE TOURNAMENT BASKETBALL SEMIFINAL GAME

On March 22, Spring Grove and Henning squared off in a boys’ state semifinal class 1A basketball game at the Target Center.

As the game got underway both teams looked to push the ball down the floor. Spring Grove passed the ball around the 3-point line as they looked to find an open shot.

Henning pushed the ball down the floor as they looked to layups in transition.

It took a while for each team to get into a shooting rhythm.

Spring Grove started the game in a zone defense. That made Henning pass the ball around the 3-point line to get an open look.

There was a media timeout with 14:34 left in the first half. The score was Spring Grove 6, Henning 2.

Spring Grove’s Caden Grinde came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. His teammates did a good job of getting him the ball in spots where he could shoot it.

After the timeout Henning’s shots started to drop. Henning’s Parker Fraki stepped up and knocked down 3-point shots. He knew where he was on the floor and his teammates got him the ball and he shot it with confidence.

Henning used a full-court press as they tried to make it as difficult for Spring Grove to bring the ball down the floor.

Henning used their speed to race down the floor. They were able to make deep 3-point shots. Spring Grove had a difficult time slowing Henning down on the offensive end.

Spring Grove hit a scoring slump midway through the first half. They were not able to make shots that they put up. Henning took advantage of this by making layups in transition.

There was a media timeout with 6:59 left in the first half. The score was Henning 23, Spring Grove 14.

Henning’s Sam Fisher and Fraki both came up with mid-range jump shots and layups. They were not afraid to take the ball to the basket. They also were able to come off screens and get to the basket.

Even though Spring Grove struggled shooting the ball they continued to take the ball hard to the basket.

Henning’s Isaac Fisher stepped up and knocked down 3-point shots.

Spring Grove looked to get the ball into the hand of Ethan Matzke who was posted up on the low block. Matzke looked to make lay-ups from the post. He also wasn’t afraid of contact.

At halftime the score was Henning 37, Spring Grove 16.

As the second half Henning started out strong as they came up with steals and layups.

As the second half wore on Henning continued to take the ball strong to the basket and they came up with layups and jump shots.

Henning continued to get to the basket and make shots.

There was a media timeout with 10:13 left in regulation. The score was Henning 54, Spring Grove 26.

Henning used their quickness to get to the basket and hit shots.

Henning came up with long passes as they got the ball down the floor well. Spring Grove struggled to shoot throughout the night.

Henning was just too much for Spring Grove to handle. Both teams played hard throughout the game. Spring Grove couldn’t keep up with the quickness of Henning or they couldn’t make shots.

Henning came away with the 67-34 victory over Spring Grove.

The leading scorers for Spring Grove were Caden Grinde with 11 points and Kai Bjerke with 9 points.

The leading scorers for Henning were Parker Fraki and Sam Fisher each with 15 points and Isaac Fisher with 14 points.
