THE HOPKINS ROYALS ARE HOSTING THE MINNETONKA SKIPPERS

The band is playing and the stands are getting packed here at the Lindbergh Center on the campus of Hopkins Senior High School.

We are ready to begin this contest. The crowd is going crazy here. The Hopkins student section is all standing they are located under the basket. Minnetonka has started out this game playing aggressive man to man defense. Hopkins is pressing here. They are really getting after it. John Hedstrom thinks that there is a lot of illegal hand checking that is not being called here early.

Hopkins is really getting the ball around the perimeter they will swing the ball around the three point arc and then look to dump the ball into Mike Broghammer or Royce White.

Minnetonka is going to have to make shots here to stay in this game tonight. They are going to have to convert in transition and make shots.

Trent Lockett for Hopkins is playing well here so far. He has come down and made a couple of nice shots here tonight. Royce White has made a couple of passes here as he has been able to find Mike Broghhammer for a couple of nice assists. Royce White knows that he is going to have a lot of assists in order for this Hopkins team to be successful. He knows his role and he is happy with that, as long as they keep winning.

John Hedstrom has become irritated with the officials here in this game. He has thought that he didn’t get some of the calls to go his way. He has had numerous conversations with this officiating crew this evening.

Hopkins Marvin Singleton has just come down and hit a nice jump shot here. He is really playing aggressively tonight. Hopkins is really putting pursuer on their man here. They don’t want Minnetonka to get the ball at all. They know if they can take control of this game they will come away with the game.

With 6:57 left to go in the score is Hopkins 40 and Minnetonka 26.

So far in this game both of these teams are playing really aggressively here tonight. Everyone is going after the balls.

Mike Broghammer has just come down and has just gotten a monster slam dunk here. That has gotten this crowd into the game. Hopkins has been able to go on runs here tonight and Minnetonka has not been able to stop them so far tonight.

Raymond Cowels has made a nice impact in this game tonight as he has really played tough aggressive defense and has been productive on the offensive end here tonight. He has just drained a three point shot to end the first half. Coach Ken Novak of Hopkins has just called the officials over and he is livid. Nothing happened as a result of meeting.

The score at half time is Hopkins 60 and Minnetonka 30.

We will see what this second half brings. As this second half gets underway there has been talk about the merci rule that took effect this season. That rule is if a team is ahead by more than 35 points with 9:00 left to go in the second half the clock runs. If the score is closer then the mercy rule is called off.

Both of these teams are still playing hard here. Royce White has just come down and had a monster power slam dunk. That has this crowd on its feet. With 12:09 left to go in regulation the score is Hopkins 80 and Minnetonka 48.

Hopkins has been able to get the ball up the court and run with the ball tonight. They have been able to run their stuff tonight. They have looked good doing it.

Royce White has played well tonight. He has been aggressive here tonight. Moses Sundufu has come down and hit a nice couple of shots here. He really gets after it. Siyani Chambers has really played well tonight.

Hopkins has just been on a roll here throughout a portion of the second half and they have been scoring at will. It has been an all around team effort tonight. This whole Hopkins team has just impressed me so far this season.
In a hard fought game Hopkins ends up defeating Minnetonka by the final of 106-62.

This was a fun atmosphere here tonight. The band has stayed throughout the game. I was also joined by the Czar from Twin Cities Boys Hoops be sure to check out his story on the Minnetonka at Hopkins game here.
